New ‘Wakanda Forever’ Merchandise Offers Closer Look at Namor’s Traditional Outfit

The wait has finally come to a conclusion, as we got our first look at Namor the Submariner in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Tenoch Huerta, one of the first casting announcements for the film, will take on the role of one of Marvel’s oldest characters. While there will be comparisons to James Cameron‘s Avatar due to blue skin and Aquaman, there’s something unique about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s approach to the characters. Nothing highlights more than a new piece of merchandise offering a new look at Namor’s traditional clothing.

This time, Namor is heavily inspired by Mayan and Aztec culture, which not only adds an excellent representation but makes him stand out visually. A new piece of merchandise highlights that very design work that adds to his look and even further hints that the Atlanteans have a Jaguar god of their own, paralleling Wakanda’s Bast.

The design approach for this character is great, especially in how they utilized his comic design. Doubt many expected to see his green speedo as part of his design, but they somehow made it work and also utilize the approach to create a fitting design approach. We’ll see if he might even have a few more other designs in the future. Namor is likely to have a bigger role in the future and we’ll see how it ties together with the now well-established Multiverse Saga.

SDCC: ‘She-Hulk’ Director Reflects on Lessons Learned With the Disney+ Series CG

There was a lot of discussion surrounding the CG work on She-Hulk when the first trailer dropped. During San Diego Comic-Con, we got another much more promising look that highlights the series’ overall humor and just how prominent we’ll see the CG version of Jennifer Walter’s alter-ego. After the panel, the director and the show’s creator Kat Coiro shared that there were definitely some growing pains with the series, especially with the prominence of a fully CG character.

This was unprecedented, you know, because [Marvel has] never made a TV show where the lead character is completely CG when she’s the title character. “…When we first started, we really didn’t have a plan or know how we were gonna do it. We just knew we were gonna do it and I just figured ‘Look, it’s Marvel, they know what they’re doing, they’re gonna figure it out. I’ll just let them do it. I’ll just write my little scripts.

    Kat Coiro

It definitely was an undertaking and she did highlight that she’d likely tackle the series differently if she had another go around. She-Hulk is famous for always being hulked out and it’s likely that everyone wanted to take on the challenge head-on to stay true to the character. Of course, the effects work is still being worked on and is likely something that’ll still be in some form of development up until its release. There’s still some time until August 17th and we’ll see just how far the project comes together.

  • ‘Nope’ Opens With $44M Domestically on Lower End of Expectations

‘Nope’ Opens With $44M Domestically on Lower End of Expectations

In a surprising twist, another new production hits theaters and slightly underperforms. While Lightyear is the only real “non-performer” at the box office, it’s surprising to see Jordan Peele‘s latest miss its $60M projections. Similar to other productions throughout the year, the only real overperformers are holdouts from 2020 in Top Gun: Maverick and Minions: Rise of Gru. In a way, these holdovers have had a lot of momentum built into them that helped lead to their current standing but until something else overperforms, we might not truly know.

Still, Nope opened the weekend box office with $44M with a B CinemaScore could hint at a bigger drop next weekend. Of course, it being an R-rated horror flick, this is a big opening weekend by any other standard; similar to how Marvel comparisons are a tough nut to crack due to their unique aspects. It’s not a disappointing release but it is lower than 2019’s Us ($71M) which might sting a little. There’s a chance this film could leg out.

It’s the third-best opening for an R-rated project since Joker that pulled in $96M and is now behind Halloween Kills‘ $49M. Expectations were higher ahead of Peele’s recent successes and Universal isn’t going to be hurting if one film doesn’t make the benchmark. Similar to how doomsayers for Thor: Love and Thunder miss the fact that it performing decently won’t hurt the production company pulling in a film that almost scratched a billion with its Doctor Strange sequel.

SDCC: ‘Wakanda Forever’ Funko Pops Offer Closer Look at Ironheart’s MK1 Armor and More

Finally, after a long wait, we got our first look at an emotional trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It finally revealed our first look at Tenoch Huerta‘s Namor, the Atlanteans, Riri Williams, a tease of how the film will handle Chadwick Boseman‘s death, and a lot more. Not too long after, it seems that Marvel is not wasting any time unveiling its line of Funko Pops for the upcoming film that’ll close off Phase 4 o the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The bigger surprise is that the Funko for Riri Williams includes her MK1 armor that would eventually become Ironheart.

Of course, we got a lot more looks at various Funko Pops for characters that’ll have a prominent role in the upcoming sequel. Among them is a good look at Namor, Attuma, and Namora, who’ll introduce the MCU’s take on Atlantis. There’s still no official word on how exactly they might feed into the story, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

Last but definitely not least, we have our Wakandan members of the cast. It’s interesting to note that there#s no official look at the new Black Panther. Even the trailer wasn’t too keen on revealing just who would take on the mantle, which may be something they’ll continue keeping a secret throughout the series’ marketing activities.

The Funko Pops look great and it’s going to be exciting to see what role every member has, especially given the dramatic turn this story will take. M’baku having a Funko continues to indicate he’ll have a big role in the story, which isn’t surprising given his popularity and the way he built a connection with T’Challa in the story. So, we’ll see in November how they will handle thee legacy.

  • SDCC: Marvel Studios President on Ryan Gosling’s Interest to Play Ghost Rider

SDCC: Marvel Studios President on Ryan Gosling’s Interest to Play Ghost Rider

San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close with a bombastic ending by Marvel Studios. They took Hall H by storm by not only announcing Phase 5 but surprising many with the Avengers films that will end the current era of Multiverse films. It was a sweeping reveal and afterward, everyone used their change to ask Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige whatever question they could.

Among them, Josh Horowitz got a chance to ask him for MTV News if he’s heard about Ryan Gosling‘s interest in playing Ghost Rider. After there were rumors he might be joining another project, such as Nova, the actor swiftly denounced any such casting but shared with Horowitz he would love to tackle the Ghost of Vengeance. Feige was only excited knowing that Gosling was interested and is open to find a spot for him in the MCU.

Gosling is unbelievable. Ryan is amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.

    Kevin Feige

OF course, he doesn’t reveal if talks have ever taken place but it does seem like something Feige would be excited to have happened. They already started adding quite a few legacy actors to their projects. So, finding the right role for Gosling would be something they wouldn’t want to miss out on.

SDCC: Marvel Studios Teases 8 More Unannounced Projects in Phase 6

San Diego Comic-Con has been chaotic, to say the least, as we not only got a look at Phase 5 but also the tease for Phase 6, which will all be under the banner of the Multiverse Saga. While they unveiled Fantastic Four alongside not one but two Avengers films releasing in 2025, they also teased 8 other projects that haven’t gotten announced yet either. It’s unclear if those may be projects they will keep a secret until Disney+ Day and D23.

SDCC: Marvel Studios Offers First Look at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

San Diego Comic-Con is giving us the long-awaited look at what the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While they haven’t given away all their cards with D23 and Disney+ Day on the horizon, we still got a glimpse at some of their upcoming projects. As it turns out, fans lucky enough to attend Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation also got a tease of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The third entry continues not only where we left off with the team in Avengers: Endgame as well as Thor: Love and Thunder. James Gunn takes back his director seat to tell the final story of the current team, which consists of Star-Lord, Nebula, Drax, Mantis, Groot, and Rocket. While the footage is not being released online just yet, thanks to Twitter, we were able to get a good idea of what the footage contained.

The trailer shown to the audience was set to The Flaming Lips‘ “Do You Realize?” and set up what is being described as a doomed love story. The footage not only showed the first look at Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, but it also gave fans a look at the High Evolutionary and baby Rocket. The trailer also confirmed that Chukwudi Iwuji will portray the High Evolutionary in the film. The actor also later took to the aisles of Hall H in full costume to join the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast on stage.

Fans described the footage as very emotional, showing a reunion between Peter and Gamora, who is now leading the Ravagers. But it also hinted at Rocket’s origins, who Gunn described as having one of the saddest stories of the bunch.
