New ‘The Boys’ Concept Art Offers Closer Look at Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy

It looks like The Boys team wanted to showcase Jensen Ackles‘ new character, Soldier Boy, in style. The Wrap released an even better look at his design that was revealed a week ago in the form of concept art. It seems nothing was lost in translation into live-action, as his live-action design seems very close to the original. The only real difference one might notice is that the knife’s placement on his hip is a bit different. We still don’t know quite what role he’ll have in the new season, as our group of misfits continues their fight against Vought Enterprises and their army of superheroes.

Hopefully, we’ll get an update on the next season in the near future. They’ve been keeping the plot tightly under wraps with only small glimpses making their way online. Eric Kripke, the creator behind CW’s Supernatural, brought Ackles on board. The suit was designed by Laura Jean Shannon and showcases some strong Captain America inspirations, as she also shared her enthusiasm over the design:

Soldier Boy is the original badass. Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude. Luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.

At first glance, it also seems they are going for a very distinct version of the character and embracing the original version rather than the legacy characters. There is still a chance he has some knock-off versions imitating his brand, but he is considered Vought’s first superhero in The Boys universe. Here’s hoping we find out more soon.

  • RUMOR: ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ to Feature ‘The Clone Wars’ Barriss Offee

RUMOR: ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ to Feature ‘The Clone Wars’ Barriss Offee

It looks like we are finally getting our first tidbits on the upcoming live-action The Mandalorian spin-off focused on Ahsoka Tano. The Star Wars: The Clone Wars character gained quite a bit of popularity and finally adapted into live-action during Din Djarin’s travels to uncover Grogu’s heritage. In the series, she got played by Rosario Dawson, and it wasn’t long until a spin-off series got announced. We haven’t heard much from it since, but it seems Illuminerdi may have gotten their hands on some curious castings. They state that Lucasfilm is currently casting Barris Offee.
The character had a substantial role in The Clone Wars and was voiced by Meredith Salenger. However, she made her live-action debut in Attack of the Clones. At the time, Nalini Krishan took on the role. There is no word if they are recasting or looking for Krishan to reprise the role.
In the series, she was a Padawan along with Ahsoka. Together they developed a strong bond. It all changed when she became disenfranchised with the Jedi Order and bombed their temple. Not just that, she even framed her former ally for it. As Offee fell to the dark side, she may appear as an Inquisitor. It is still heavily rumored the series will focus on Ahoska’s search for Thrawn, but she might be a recurring villain that keeps her company on her quest. Whatever direction they decide to go, it’s going to be exciting to finally find out what happened to Ezra Bridger since Star Wars: Rebels.

  • Chris McKay Reveals First Details of his Scrapped ‘LEGO Batman’ Sequel

Chris McKay Reveals First Details of his Scrapped ‘LEGO Batman’ Sequel

It almost seems like it was yesterday when The LEGO Batman Movie premiered on the silver screen. Sadly, it’s already been around four years since the animated film was released and gave us a very unique but heartfelt take on the iconic Batman mythos. There haven’t been any announced plans for a sequel since and it seems that director Chris McKay didn’t want to keep it a secret anymore. It seems that there once was a sequel in development that tragically got scrapped even with the talented duo of Community‘s Dan Harmon and Loki‘s Michael Waldron. The latter even took to Twitter to share the script’s first page unveiling the title as Lego Superfriends.

The script, according to McKay, would explore Batman’s relationship with the Justice League that was only briefly glimpsed in the first film. He described it as a Boogie Nights-esque comedy and goes on to offer some details on what he, Harmon, and Waldron were working on:

Dan (Harmon) and (Michael) Waldron had done a first draft of the script that was really great. It was truly epic… both from an action standpoint and from a story standpoint. The structure was Godfather Part 2… a story about Batman’s relationship to the Justice League (and Superman) now as well as the formative moments of the Justice League (and Batman’s relationship with Superman) then.

The reason we never got a sequel was due to Universal purchasing the rights to the LEGO franchise. As the original LEGO Movie got published through Warner Bros., they had access to their extensive library. Many might recall the various cameos from the LEGO Batman finale. As such, any future LEGO properties can include franchises like The Fast and Furious or Jurassic World, but we can’t expect a Batman sequel. Hopefully, Warner Bros. ends up buying the rights back to continue the franchise.
