Barry Keoghan Hasn’t Heard of Any Future ‘Eternals’ Plans

As we near the first anniversary of Eternals’ theatrical release, there remains no word on what the future of the franchise is. And based on the words of Barry Keoghan (who starred as Druig in the film), the stars of the original film don’t know either. While discussing his upcoming role in The Banshees of Inisherin with Uproxx, the actor spoke about how he hasn’t heard anything about his future with Marvel Studios and who he’s relied on to keep up to date with this sort of news.

Kumail (Nanjiani) is always the one I’m texting. I’m like, “Yo, have you heard anything on Eternals 2?” Kumail knows everything. You know what I mean? He loves comic books. The comic world…I’m always texting him like about San Diego Comic-Con. I’m like, “Hey, are we going to San Diego for Eternals?” but I’d love to see where it goes. I really would.

    Barry Keoghan

Eternals was one of the few notable Marvel franchises that did not have any news come out of San Diego Comic-Con or the immediate following weeks. Based on the ever-dwindling amount of open slots within the Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could end up being a while before the team returns to screens. And with that, Barry Keoghan has expressed curiosity in terms of where the story will go next.

There’s a lot that we could dive into and there’s a lot of character stories that we can go with and that as well. So I will be curious to see where Kevin (Feige), Victoria Alonso, and they all take it.

    Barry Keoghan

When speaking about the specific process of making the first Eternals film, Keoghan gave high praise to director Chloe Zhao and how she helmed the film. As well, he brings up his desire to work with Zhao again for a future project.

It was shot and made, you really get, with the characters, it sort of felt like an independent movie at some points as well. But she’s amazing. Chloé, she’s another great one I would work with. At the drop of a hat again.

    Barry Keoghan

Ultimately though, it still remains unclear when the Eternals will return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One potential sign of hope comes from a few months ago when post-credit scene actor Patton Oswalt seemingly confirmed on the Today Show that a sequel being helmed by Chloe Zhao was in active development. It remains to be seen if this was something the actor spoke too soon about, but there in theory is certainly room in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe for the ancient deities to have an active presence in some form.

  • ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ to Begin Filming in a Month

‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ to Begin Filming in a Month

After being one of the biggest surprises in upcoming shows announced by Marvel Studios, Agatha: Coven of Chaos has been subject to numerous questions as to what the show may pertain to. Though with a recent update, it may not be too long until there will be some idea of what to expect from the WandaVision spin-off. While at the Chicago Film Festival, Kathryn Hahn (who is set to star in the titular role) spoke about her excitement about what this opportunity has provided. As well, Hahn provided a somewhat surprising update on the speed at which the show is moving along.

It’s nothing I could have ever dreamed of, was to be asked to play a centuries-old witch that no one had ever heard of. And then all of a sudden, cut to a spin-off show, which is just like, ‘What?’ So, it’s very, very exciting. We’re in the middle of getting the Coven ready, and it’s going to be very delicious. I’m very excited for people to see that. We start shooting in about a month.

    Kathryn Hahn

Production starting next month is certainly an exciting development for Marvel Studios as it begins producing the next swath of shows that will make up Phase Five. Some rumors, though, have already begun to surface for major players in the series. Firstly, a casting grid has been discovered that seems to potentially involve the inclusion of both Wiccan and Hulkling in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. And then comes the currently developing rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing the infamous Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While his debut would seemingly be in Ironheart, rumors suggest he will play a larger role in Marvel Studios’ future in projects such as the Agatha series. Either way, the concept of magic in the Marvel Universe is certainly set to be further explored for Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

The series is currently set to be released on Disney+ in the winter of 2023 and/or 2024.

  • Oscar Isaac Confirms Active Discussions for ‘Moon Knight’ Follow-Up with Marvel Studios

Oscar Isaac Confirms Active Discussions for ‘Moon Knight’ Follow-Up with Marvel Studios

After Moon Knight proved to be a critical and commercial success for Disney+ and Marvel Studios, star actor Oscar Isaac has confirmed that he is actively discussing a follow-up to Moon Knight with Marvel Studios executives. Though the major point of note comes in the uncertainty of whether this would come in the form of a second season or in a film. While talking with Comicbook.com, this is what the actor had to say about his future with Moon Knight.

There have been some specific conversations. They were pleasant. The spilling of the details is that there’s no details. We don’t know [if there will be a second season], but we’re talking about it.

    Oscar Isaac

It should definitely come as a point of excitement that Isaac remains interested in continuing the story of the multi-personalities of Moon Knight. While further elaborating on the topic, Isaac talked about his openness to whatever type of story best keeps him passionate for the character (whether that be a second season, transferring him to a film franchise, or placing him as part of a team).

Truthfully, it’s about the story. Is there a story worth telling? Is it interesting? Will I feel embarrassed about it when it comes out? So it’s just about, is there something worth pouring everything you have into. And with Moon Knight, that was very much about that. It’s creating a structure so that every morning when the alarm went off, I couldn’t wait to get to the set because I wanted to try something different. Whether that’s in a group thing or maybe a great idea comes around for a season two or if it’s a standalone film or whatever it could be. I think it’s just approaching it in that kind of way. It’s the story first.

    Oscar Isaac

Ultimately, it will be quite interesting to see what direction Marvel Studios will take with the character in the current landscape of the Multiverse Saga. The end of the first season of Moon Knight certainly left the door open for a solo follow-up focusing on the Jake Lockley persona and openly facing his Marc Spector and Steven Grant identities. Whether that will be in the form of a narratively extended second season or a more streamlined feature film or a special presentation remains to be seen at this point.

As well, Isaac‘s suggestion of a team-up is interesting with the current line-up of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Avengers franchise is gearing up for its next two outings in the coming years, one of the more appealing teams for Moon Knight would potentially be the Midnight Sons (or whatever they’d be referred to as by Marvel Studios). With Werewolf by Night releasing this month and Blade (finally) arriving in the future, Moon Knight could have ample amounts of compelling stories in the supernatural side of the universe.

The entirety of the first season of Moon Knight is available to watch on Disney+

  • Charlie Cox Discusses Differences Between Netflix and Disney+ Versions of Daredevil

Charlie Cox Discusses Differences Between Netflix and Disney+ Versions of Daredevil

The return of Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock and Daredevil has been one of the most hotly discussed topics in the superhero landscape. Once believed to be a relative impossibility following the Netflix cancellation, this portrayal of Daredevil has been given a second wind of energy that will continue into in his own 2024 Disney+ series. While his return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been met with general praise from audiences, some level of debate has amassed on the differences in portrayal of Matthew Murdock on Disney+ as opposed to Netflix. The somber tones of the original Netflix series are not present in the recent Disney+ series, though that’s absolutely logical with the latter being distinctly comedic in nature. It has, however, led to some questions about how this will translate to Daredevil: Born Again.

While speaking with Variety about his return to the role, Charlie Cox took some time to speak about the different side of his character shown in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

We’ve never really had an opportunity to explore the levity that there is in the comics. Obviously Daredevil at his core works better as a show that’s geared toward a more mature audience, but even life that is very serious has comedic moments in it. I felt like this was a really good opportunity to put Daredevil in a world where tonally there is a lot more fun to be had, it’s a lot more lighthearted, tongue in cheek. It was a really great experiment, both for me and for the character, to see how we fit into that world. It was just a question of freeing up a little bit and allowing myself as an actor to go toe-to-toe with Tatiana and make sure that Daredevil didn’t become the butt of the joke because he’s overly serious, to make sure he had his charisma, charm and wits. Whether that will play into what we do next year with “Daredevil: Born Again,” I don’t know, but it was certainly a fun experiment.

    Charlie Cox

Charlie Cox makes a strong point about the importance of moments of levity despite his character being commonly associated with darker themes. Matthew Murdock’s role in She-Hulk doesn’t necessarily negate the character’s other experiences in the Netflix Defenders-verse. While the tone of Daredevil in She-Hulk was different from the Netflix series, it was also greatly in-line with the seminal Mark Waid run on the character in the comics.

Whether or not this tone will remain for Daredevil: Born Again does remain a question. But if the quality of his material remains the same, it shouldn’t really matter what tone Daredevil will have for this upcoming series.

  • Charlie Cox Discusses What to Expect in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Charlie Cox Discusses What to Expect in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law having wrapped up its first season on Disney+, fans have begun further anticipating the next venture involving a superheroic lawyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Charlie Cox has received generally rave reviews for his performance in the final two episodes of She-Hulk, greatly raising the level of interest for Daredevil: Born Again, which arrives on Disney+ in 2024 with 18 episodes (an unprecedented move for Marvel Studios projects on the streaming platform). While talking with Variety about his return as Daredevil, Charlie Cox discussed the concept of an 18-episode series and how it will impact the production and story of the new series.

It’s mad. I have no idea; your guess is as good as mine. Just in terms of shooting, physically it’s going to be a real slog and that will be a challenge in and of itself, which I’m excited about. It’s such a bold move. The character being a lawyer lends quite well to that. There’s a lot of story you can tell, just outside of the superhero element.

    Charlie Cox

With Daredevil: Born Again being primed to be such a deep dive into the titular character and his world, questions will be asked of how much from the original Netflix series will be folded into this adaptation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When asked about who from the original series Cox would like to reunite with, the actor played it relatively coy. However, he did go fairly in-depth into the concept of being curious about where the character’s “canon” will be when the show streams.

It was an absolute delight to work with everyone on all of those shows at Netflix. They were the beating heart of all of those shows. I would be honored and thrilled to work with any of them again. I would hate to single anyone out and I would hate to speculate because I just don’t know what the plan is going forward. That’s way above my pay grade. There are so many great stories to tell. There are stories to tell again. That wouldn’t be inconsistent with what they do in the comic book universe. Often a new writer and artist will take over a book and they will start from beginning. So maybe we’ll be doing that, but I genuinely don’t know. I’m just thrilled that I’ve been invited to the party.

    Charlie Cox

Charlie Cox makes some interesting points here about the possibility of Daredevil: Born Again being a true fresh slate for the character away from what he did before. The specific status of “canon” within the Netflix universe of Marvel characters, however, does still remain nebulous. That said, the inclusion of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin alongside rumors about other returning Netflix characters can lead to the belief that at least some of the core story beats will remain intact.

The growing romance between Daredevil and She-Hulk caught the attention of fans, and She-Hulk, after showcasing strong amounts of chemistry in the latter two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Fans have begun to ask questions about whether Jennifer Walters will make some sort of appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox addressed the idea.

I don’t like to speculate; I’ve learned over the years that when you get excited in an interview and you talk about things that could happen, the problem is that they then litter the internet. People talk about it, and then if it is a good idea, you end up ruining it for the fans. The only thing I’ll say is that I had such a blast working with Tatiana. She’s such an extraordinary actor, and the characters’ chemistry was really strong. There’s more fun to be had there, so whether we can go on that journey a little longer and our lives can collide again, I don’t know but I’d certainly be in support of that, if it can happen.

They join Walker Scobell, in the titular role, alongside Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries as Grover and Annabeth, respectively.

Suzanne Cryer, likely best known for her leading role in Silicon Valley, will guest star as Echidna, the Mother of Monsters. • ‘Fargo’ Season Five Fills Out Ensemble Cast

‘Fargo’ Season Five Fills Out Ensemble Cast

The fifth season of Fargo is ready to go and the principal members of the ensemble cast seem to be on board. FX has added David Rhysdal, Sam Spurell, Jessica Pohly, and Nick Gomez to the cast of the ongoing series. Rhysdal is set to play Wayne Lyon, Spurrell will portray Ole Munch, Pohly will play Agent Meyer, and Gomez is playing Agent Gomez. Beyond the official character names, not much has been revealed about the nature of these new castings.

The newest season in the Fargo universe will be set in 2019 in the upper Midwest of the United States, the standard and familiar setting from previous installments. The main premise is built around the question of “when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?”

Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, and Jennifer Jason Leigh are set to lead Season 5 as Roy, Dot, and Lorraine, respectively. Other notable supporting cast members for the season include Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, and Richa Moorjani.

Fargo has been a massive success in the television landscape since its debut in 2014. Following the release of the classic Coen Brothers’ film of the same name in 1996, Noah Hawley and his production team have overseen all of the previous four seasons and are currently working on the fifth. This project will look to be a bit of a bounceback for the franchise after the slightly less positive reception to the Chris Rock-led fourth season from 2020 (which still isn’t considered to be a “flop” in many senses).

  • ‘Fatal Attraction’ Series Adds to Ensemble Cast

‘Fatal Attraction’ Series Adds to Ensemble Cast

The upcoming series reviving the Fatal Attraction brand continues to round out its growing cast. The upcoming Paramount+ series has cast David Meunier and Dee Wallace in ensemble roles. Meunier is set to play Richard Macksey, a psychology professor with personal ties to characters in the series. Meanwhile, Wallace will portray Emma Rauch, a retired professional with a charming personality to those around her, sans main character Alex (played by Lizzie Caplan).

The rest of the main cast includes the likes of Joshua Jackson, Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, Wanda De Jesus, Walter Perez, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, and Brian Goodman. Alexandra Cunningham is serving as showrunner after having written the series from a story co-written with Kevin J. Hynes.

Fatal Attraction is said to be a psychosexual thriller akin to the classic 1987 film and explore the themes of marriage and infidelity from a modern lens with different societal sensibilities. The series is a remake and reimagining of the film and not a continuation of the original Michael Douglas and Glenn Close-led project. For the series, the roles of Dan Gallagher and Alex Forrest will be played by Joshua Jackson and Lizzie Caplan respectively.

Filming for the series began during the summer of 2022. With that in mind, audiences should look to expect Fatal Attraction on Paramount+ to premiere at some point in 2023.

  • Sydney Sweeney to Star in ‘Barbarella’ Remake

Sydney Sweeney to Star in ‘Barbarella’ Remake

Sydney Sweeney continues her rise into prominence within Hollywood and is next set to lead a revitalized science fiction franchise. Deadline has announced that the actress will be starring in a new Barbarella film for Sony Pictures. The film will be based on the vintage French comic series by Jean-Claude Forest. It has previously been adapted to film in 1968 in a project starring Jane Fonda. The movie is still in the early development stages with no writer or director attached to the project at this time.

Barbarella follows the tales of the titular character, an astronaut from the 41st century, from the evil ways of scientist Durand Durand. While not met with massive success financially at the box office, the film has garnered a relatively strong cult following in the over 50 years since its release. The character and literary series has served as a notable figure in the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s.

For Sweeney, this film will continue her strong working relationship with Sony Pictures. The young actress has a supporting role in the upcoming Madame Web film, which is set to branch off to a new corner of the greater Spider-Man universe. It’s currently unknown what role she is playing in the superhero film. She has quickly been rising in Hollywood thanks to her Emmy-nominated performances in the first season of The White Lotus and the second season of Euphoria for HBO.

  • Paddy Considine Reveals What Killed King Viserys

Paddy Considine Reveals What Killed King Viserys

With the conclusion of the eighth episode of House of the Dragon came the conclusion of a season-long journey toward death for one of the series’ main characters. After a long and gradual decline in health over the first season, King Viserys I Targaryen died in his sleep in the final moments of Sunday’s latest episode. In an interview, actor Paddy Considine gave some insight into the cause of the suffering and death for the now-deceased King of Westeros.

He’s actually suffering from a form of leprosy. His body is deteriorating, his bones are deteriorating. He is not actually old. He’s still a young man in there. He’s just, unfortunately, got this thing that’s taken over his body. It becomes a metaphor for being king, and the stress and strain that it puts on you, and what it does to you physically, what it does to you mentally.

    Paddy Considine

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to viewers based on the telltale signs of Viserys’ body gradually falling apart as the season progressed. It was certainly noticeable in this past episode in which the king had to wear a golden mask to hide the fact he had lost an eye due to the disease. Considine’s physical performance in struggling with leprosy and his overall portrayal of the character should place the actor high in award consideration in 2023.

Ultimately, the death of Viserys is the gateway for the civil war brewing amongst the Targaryen family. The conflict between Rhaenyra Targaryan and Alicent Hightower has been the main storyline of House of the Dragon to this point and while this episode left the two characters at potentially the closest they’ve been since the premiere, the feelings of resentment have been passed down to their children which makes the upcoming boiling point all the more inevitable. With two episodes remaining, it certainly will be interesting where the status quo stands heading into the future of the series with the Dance of the Dragons.
