James Gunn Offers New Look at ‘Peacemaker’s Judomaster

While the holidays are a quiet period for Hollywood, we still get some teases here or there to tie us over into the new year. Luckily, DC fans won’t have to wait long until they get their first new property in 2022, as we’ll get a spinoff for The Suicide Squad focused on John Cena‘s Peacemaker. As we’re only 17 days away from its release, director James Gunn took to Twitter to offer a closer look at one of its newest additions, Judo Master.

Nhut Le will take on the role in the HBO Max series, which is taking a lot of inspiration from the original Charlton Comics, which included quite a few iconic characters that would eventually become mainstays in the DC universe. Le‘s upcoming take is quite a departure from the original, especially in the costume department. Instead of his white-red costume, he has one that is fully in green that seems closer to what we saw Nathan Filion‘s TDK was wearing. It’ll be interesting to see how he brings the character to life and how he’ll interact with Peacemaker and Vigilante.

  • RUMOR: ‘Monsters at Work’s Studio Working on Lucasfilm Project, Potentially ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’

RUMOR: ‘Monsters at Work’s Studio Working on Lucasfilm Project, Potentially ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’

Not too long ago, we’ve noticed that a new Star Wars project may have accidentally leaked through a Lucasfilm’s employee gift. Alongside the logos of already announced projects, there’s the inclusion of something titled Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. We’ve never heard of this project before and it opened the floodgates of what it might be about. Well, it seems some clever Redditors have potentially found an answer.

User CommanderVisor has noticed that ICON Creative Studios is employing people for an unannounced animated project. The studio is well-known for its animated projects targeted at a younger audience, which includes The Rocketeer, Elena of Avaltor, and more. They’ve also worked on Disney+’s recent Monsters Inc. sequel, Monsters at Work.

Of course, there’s no concrete confirmation, and even The Bespin Bulletin is mainly speculating it might be this project. Yet, it seems possible that the project they are working on is the unannounced Tales of the Jedi. We’ll have to take it with a grain of salt until there’s a clearer confirmation, but it seems like Lucasfilm is trying to also cater to a younger audience with this new offering.

  • RUMOR: ‘God of War Ragnarok’ Leak Hints at a Late September Release

RUMOR: ‘God of War Ragnarok’ Leak Hints at a Late September Release

We’ve all been wondering what the future holds for God of War Ragnarok, as we continue to await its release. The story of Kratos and his son Atreus continues, as Fimbulwinter has arrived to change their lives potentially forever. We were quite excited when we got a glimpse of the sequel’s gameplay and a confirmation it would end the franchise’s Norse storyline. Sadly, the game’s release did get pushed back into 2022 after originally eyeing a release this year, but it seems a new leak may have given us a hint at when to expect it.

In a post by PlayStation Game Size on Twitter, it seems that the PlayStation Database has accidentally leaked the release date slot for the game for September 30th of 2022. As they point out, there’s a chance it is just a placeholder, but it falls on a Friday which is in line with previous releases. If a placeholder is already set, it could be a hint that the next trailer would offer us a clear indicator of when it might release.

September seems like a fitting time to release the game, as it’ll be a big seller for Sony’s PlayStation. Of course, releasing closer to the holidays will make it on the top list for many. Plus, there’s something fun about playing a game that takes place during an endless Winter as of September. Of course, we still need to take this news with a grain of salt, and it’ll be interesting to see if we get an official release confirmation early in the new year.

    X-Force

Current X-Force writer Ben Percy will stay on for Destiny of X’s X-Force book, launching in April. The official teaser shows X-Force members Wolverine, Kid Omega, Beast, Force and Sage hooked into Cerebrex, which seems to be an upgraded version of the current Cerebro worn by Professor X. Artist Robert Gill, who has been working with Percy on X-Force for the last 4 issues will remain on the book.

    Knights of X

Also launching in April, Knights of X will be, is some ways, a continuation of the current Excalibur book that launched during Dawn of X and “ended” with this month’s #26. Excalibur writer Tini Howard will be joined by artist Bob Quinn on Knights of X which, as it turns out, should be read “Knights of Ten” (the teaser reads, “Ten Realms, Ten Knights”). It’s expected to be set primarily in Otherworld and pick up where the events of Excalibur #26, which saw Betsy Braddock remain in Otherworld to fight Merlyn, left off.

    X-Men

Gerry Duggan will remain on board the main X-title. The solicitation for X-Men #9, which can be seen below, hints at some big troubles ahead for the squad.

    Legion of X

New X-Men Team For 2022, Spinning Out Of Onslaught/Way Of X (Spoilers)

Details have yet to be released on Legion of X, but it seems likely that it will star Nightcrawler and Legion and be a bit of a continuation of Way of X, written by Si Spurrier and drawn by Bob Quinn. A new team, shown above, was teased at the end of X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation, which served as the end of the Way of X story. The team, featuring Juggernaut, Doctor Nemesis, Pixie, Forgetmenot and a newly resurrected Blindfold, who was originally kept out of the Resurrection Protocols due to Moira’s demands that no precog mutants be allowed to be brought back to life. With Destiny having been resurrected in Inferno and Blindfold on the way and Juggernaut, who was banned from Krakoa by Xavier, on the team, it seems like there truly are some big changes coming post-Inferno.

    Wolverine

Again, no new details here but Ben Percy, whose run on the book has produced the best work on Wolverine in decades, will continue on. Wolverine will continue in April with issue 20 that will, apparently, feature Deadpool who has been notably absent from the X-line for the most part.

    New Mutants

This looks like a potential continuation as well with Vita Ayala and Rod Reis working on issue #25 which is headed to stores in August. The description of the book, which can be read in full below, calls it a “perfect jumping-on point”for new readers.

THE LABORS OF MAGIK START HERE! The big two-five is here – and it’s the perfect jumping-on point for fans new and old! Illyana Rasputin is the Sorcerer Supreme and the rightful queen of Limbo…but she’s been awfully busy on Krakoa. Someone’s got their eye on the throne – and Magik isn’t the only queen in mutantdom. Vita Ayala and Rod Reis rekindle an old flame for a whole new generation of Magik lovers

    X-Men Red

A Storm-centric book launching in April, X-Men Red will see Al Ewing and Stefano Caselli team up to tell the story of the Regent of Arakko defend the Red Planet.

    Additional Titles

And while they were not teased as Destiny of X books, fans of the X-books can also look forward to a Gambit solo series, which sees the return of legendary X-Men writer and Gambit creator Chris Claremont, who will be working with artist Sid Kotian, and Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird, written by Steve Orlando and Nyla Rose, which will tell the tale of the newly resurrected John Proudstar.

More information on all these titles will be available when the full April solicitations are revealed in January.

  • ‘Squid Game’ Creator Already in Talks With Netflix for a Season 3

‘Squid Game’ Creator Already in Talks With Netflix for a Season 3

It looks like the creator of Netflix’s international smash hit Squid Game is in it for the long game, as Hwang Gon-hyuk has revealed he is currently in negotiations on a potential third season. There were already hints that they have started development on a second season to continue the story of Lee Jung-jae‘s Seong Gi-hun, who has made quite the declaration at the end of the first season after the revelations behind the titular Squid Game. Korean Times was kind enough to translate Gon-hyuk‘s statement on their current discussions:

I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3. We will come to a conclusion any time soon.

    Hwang Gon-hyuk

It’s uncertain how they’ll continue the storyline, but there are quite a few open questions left behind with Lee Byung-hun‘s Front Man revelation. They seemingly left a few talking points open on purpose to further explore the history of these games. We met one of its founders, but that won’t stop the games from continuing even as he moved on. We’ll see what the future has in store for Gi-hun, who is about to face an entire corporation down on his own.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Could Become Sony’s Most Profitable Release

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Could Become Sony’s Most Profitable Release

Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s success at the box office is quite an exciting prospect. It built upon the nostalgia of the original two franchises that came before it, while also offering an emotional gut-punch of a story that is bound to have people clamoring for more. Well, it seems Sony is in the same seat as Deadline is reporting that its $1 billion global release has already gained around $242M net profit. That’s quite the success within just a few weeks, especially as the film continues to grow moving forward.

It just passed that benchmark and tied with Avengers: Infinity War as the second-fastest to do so. Yet, there are some concerns that the Omicron surge could hamper its future development and take away the legs it would’ve had originally if it was released in a non-pandemic time. Unlike most releases, it’s still a steady release and there’s a good chance Sony will make $610M in profit from this single release. As the film is already on its way to pass Far From Home, which managed to nab $1.13B, the current predictions see it making around $1.75B worldwide.

At this rate, it’s sure to beat out the previous entries, which is always a good sign for an ongoing franchise like Spider-Man and has also been quite competitive in the market, which most newer releases not holding a candle to it in its second weekend. Marvel Studios and Disney did renegotiate their terms for this third entry, which means they’ll get a slice of the pie as well. This also solidifies that their continued partnership might be in the best interest of everyone involved, which hopefully ensures a bright future as work is already underway for the fourth entry.

  • Jessica Henwick Says “Never Say Never” on Potential Continuation of Her ‘Iron Fist’ Storyline

Jessica Henwick Says “Never Say Never” on Potential Continuation of Her ‘Iron Fist’ Storyline

Marvel Studios is going through an interesting phase, as they reintroduced characters from the Marvel TV era into their universe. Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk and Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil made their return in style, which opened the floodgates of others making a potential return. It made many wonders if they’ll also answer some questions left behind from the series, such as Colleen Wing’s new time as the Iron Fist. Luckily, during her press tour for The Matrix Resurrections, actress Jessica Henwick gave her opinion on a potential return.

Look, the way we left Iron Fist, spoiler alert, Colleen has the power and she’s in a really good place. I would love to revisit her. That character meant a lot to me and really changed my life. And I would love to revisit her one day, but it would really have to be the right place, and the right time, and the right script, but never say never

    Jessica Henwick

What is interesting to point out is that she was offered a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but declined due to her hope to revisit Wing’s storyline. It’s unclear if this is even something that Marvel Studios is willing to revisit given the overall reception of that part of The Defenders, but we’ll see if her choice may have sparked an interest to continue further down that path after all.

  • New ‘The Batman’ Trailer Features More Footage of Riddler and Catwoman

New ‘The Batman’ Trailer Features More Footage of Riddler and Catwoman

It looks like a new poster has finally dropped that offers a closer look at the upcoming March release of The Batman. Matt Reeves‘s new epic will reintroduce the world to a new take on the iconic Caped Crusader. We’ve had some amazing posters in the past, but the latest offers a look at the mystery surrounding Riddler’s true goal and even features more of Zoe Kravitz’s take on Selina Kyle.

This is a more action-packed offering than those before, which focused primarily on the detective aspect. The dynamic tease between Bruce and Selina is also quite intriguing, as it may offer a fresher take that can evolve throughout most films. It’s still crazy to think we’re getting a new interpretation of the character that leans more into the gothic side that has been heavily used throughout comics and even the animated projects. We cannot wait to see it once it releases in March and kicks off a new year for superhero offerings.

  • ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Delayed by At Least Half a Year Due to COVID

‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Delayed by At Least Half a Year Due to COVID

Sadly, it looks like the ongoing pandemic has caught another victim, as producer Naoki Yoshida has announced on Twitter that Final Fantasy XVI is facing delays by at least a half year due to COVID-19. The entire production is facing quite a challenge, which had allowed them to tweak quite a few important elements of the core game. Still, this means that we won’t get any updates on the game until Spring of 2021.

    https://twitter.com/finalfantasyxvi/status/1475335618905669635

We only got the initial trailer some time ago with our first real details back in October of 2020. So, we haven’t had any details for almost a year, which is why this update may be a bit of a dark surprise for some given how long we’ve already waited. It also means that other productions might be affected in similar ways, as we’re still waiting for news on the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake as well.

To be fair, that game hasn’t been given a trailer or official announcement which means it isn’t technically getting a “delay” but the lack of any updates has been a bit disheartening. Still, the health of the teams behind these games is important and here’s hoping they aren’t further affected by the ongoing pandemic.

  • Warner CEO Confirms HBO Max Date for ‘The Batman’

Warner CEO Confirms HBO Max Date for ‘The Batman’

When the calendar turns over to 2022, fans will notice a change in the way WarnerMedia distributes their films. In 2021, films such as The Matrix Resurrections and The Suicide Squad were released on HBO Max the same day they hit theaters through an experiment called “Project Popcorn.” This strategy, while appreciated by fans who weren’t ready to return to theaters during an ongoing pandemic, certainly put a dent in the box office returns for those films. In October, WarnerMedia brass indicated that while there will still be movies that debut on HBO Max (as many as 11), they will be returning to debuting many films in theaters.

One of WarnerMedia’ first big tentpoles to debut exclusively in theaters in 2022 will be Matt ReevesThe Batman. Reeves began developing the film in early 2017 after Ben Affleck, who was set to star and direct, hit some creative roadblocks. Reeves’ new take on the Caped Crusader will star Robert Pattinson as a young Bruce Wayne taking on the Riddler as he terrorizes Gotham City. Reeves is a long-time fan of the character and has plans for a trilogy and multiple spinoffs have already gone into development; to that end, The Batman represents a MAJOR investment for WarnerMedia and a successful theatrical run for the film is important.

That does not diminish the importance of HBO Max to the studio’s future success, however, and so while “Project Popcorn” is no more, Warner announced that films that debut theatrically, like The Batman, will have a 45-day run in theaters and will hit HBO Max on Day 46. While speaking with Peter Kafka on the Recode podcast, WarnerMedia CEO, Jason Kilar, confirmed this to be the case for The Batman, indicating it will debut on the streaming service on April 19, 2022. Kilar went on to confirm that the studio intends to follow suit with the releases of Black Adam and The Flash. With Disney, Warner’s chief competition, experimenting with longer windows for some of their bigger budget films, it looks like a new battle of the Streaming Wars in underway.
