Charles Melton Slyly Addresses MCU ‘X-Men’ Beast Rumors

As casting rumors for Marvel Studios X-Men dominate the news cycle, one star reportedly set to appear as one of the original five members of Charles Xavier’s team of mutant heroes has addressed the possibility.

In an interview with The Playlist promoting Nicolas Winding Refn‘s upcoming sci-fi opera Her Private Hell, May December star Charles Melton openly addressed the rampant rumors tracking him to play Dr. Hank McCoy, aka Beast, in the MCU’s X-Men reboot.

Rather than executing a hard  denial, Melton responded with slick redirect. When asked point-blank about the blue-furred geneticist role, Melton smiled and dropped a telling, coy counter-question: “Wow. Who’s directing?”

Melton’s response drew attention because the director steering the X-Men ship is Jake Schreier—the filmmaker who recently worked alongside Melton on the second season of Netflix’s Emmy-winning phenomenon Beef.

Schreier isn’t entering the mutant landscape alone; he has  reassembled the elite core of his award-winning creative circle, bringing Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and writer-producer Joanna Calo on board to beef up the screenplay. Melton  didn’t hesitate to reveal his immense enthusiasm for the prospect or the reunion: “Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely… It does interest me for sure. Oh, yeah. That would be cool. What a dream. What a dream.

Melton’s Her Private Hell co-star Sophie Thatcher was also questioned by The Playlist regarding mutant rumors but stated she hadn’t heard anything yet, though she remains entirely open to large-scale studio work if the script carries genuine empathy.
