Insider Changes Course on Adam Driver’s ‘X-Men’ Role, Dishes on Bill Skarsgård and Cooper Hoffman

The digital ink had barely dried on the industry’s scramble linking Adam Driver to the magnetic helmet before one the internet’s most reliable scoopers pumped the brakes. In a correction that has completely flipped the board ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, prominent industry insider ApocHorseman has formally walked back the Magneto tracking, revealing that Driver is actually in talks to play Mister Sinister.

ApocHorseman issued a candid statement to the fandom regarding the initial mix-up:

So sorry guys. Big mistake from my end but hearing Adam Driver is Sinister.

The Driver reframing was accompanied by an equally explosive drop of new pipeline rumblings, mapping out a pair of the studio’s potential targets for Charles Xavier and Cyclops.

The shift from Magneto to Mister Sinister significantly alters the conceptual blueprint for the live-action reboot. While Magneto is a fierce, front-facing ideological revolutionary, Sinister is a cold, centuries-old Victorian geneticist obsessed with manipulating mutant bloodlines—specifically targeting the DNA of the Summers and Grey families.

For Driver, stepping into the pale, diamond-browed silhouette of Sinister provides an opportunity to dig heavily into a character who is essentially irredeemable. The role allows him to bypass the heavy baggage of previous live-action adaptations while leaning heavily into the creepy, calculating, and intensely dramatic eccentricity he has championed across his acclaimed film catalog.

With the villain tracking safely corrected, ApocHorseman also addressed rumors about the studio’s plans for Professor X, confirming that Bill Skarsgård (IT, Nosferatu) is firmly among a small handful of actors actively in the mix for Charles Xavier.

The leak heavily reinforces that Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier are aggressively “aiming young” for the foundational leadership slots. The 35-year-old Skarsgård into the casting pool aligns flawlessly with the early Silver Age comic baseline—positioning Charles as a young, intensely driven, and slightly wealthy academic launching his school for gifted youngsters in real-time. Skarsgård’s unparalleled capacity to portray deeply layered, unsettling intellect would offer a completely fresh, modern dynamic to the telepathic icon.

Rounding out the trilogy of bombshell updates, the pipeline reveals that Marvel is officially hunting for their tactical field commander, confirming that Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) is prominently in the mix to play Scott Summers, aka Cyclops.

Importantly, the update emphasized that the 23-year-old Hoffman–the son of the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman–is “not the only choice though.” However, it provides a glimpse into the age range and type of talent the studio is considering.

With the casting grid heating up to white-hot levels, these shortlists are highly fluid. Expect Kevin Feige to potentially hold the final locks close to his chest until the lights officially dim in Hall H on July 25.
