The long-awaited live-action leap for Brooklyn’s favorite web-slinger is no longer a matter of if, but when. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel Studios has plans to introduce Miles Morales into the MCU, though his arrival is strictly contingent on Sony Pictures wrapping up its animated trilogy.
While Feige has previously explained why Morales hasn’t appeared in the MCU yet, his new comments mark the first time he’s revealed that Marvel and Sony have a plan in place to bring the character into the MCU. Addressing the character’s long-term cinematic trajectory, Feige made it clear that adding Miles into live-action feels like the natural destiny of the franchise:
“The good news is, Sony has the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series, which are very popular and excellent, and Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out next year,” said Feige. “But yes, we definitely have plans for a live-action Miles, and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends.“
Feige’s comments serve as an endorsement of Sony’s request to give the animated franchise runway to finish its narrative. With Sony Pictures officially slating Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for a summer 2027 theatrical release, Feige’s update effectively rules out Miles Morales making his debut this year, though it does leave the door open for the character to pop up in Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to Feige, he and Sony’s Amy Pascal have had conversations about the future of the shared franchise. “We’ve been thinking and discussing more Spider-Man adventures, regardless of agreements or contracts. My production partner, Amy Pascal, is already working on it, and we’ve had in-depth discussions about what the next two, three, four, and five Spider-Man movies might be about.”
It sounds as though Morales, who has grown into one of Marvel’s most popular, modern heroes, could be a big part of Marvel Studios’ plans through 2042.
