Kevin Feige Confirms ‘X-Men’ Release Timeline

In late 2024, five years after announcing Marvel Studios intention to create a new, MCU-set X-Men film, Kevin Feige shared a vague timeline for the project.  “…the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men,” teased Feige. “Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.“

With Avengers: Secret Wars ready to begin principal photography in August and no other films officially having been given release dates, fans have begun to believe that the cast of X-Men film, directed by Jake Schreier, will be a be revealed, at least in part, during Marvel Studios July 25th Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con. While that may or may not come to fruition, it sounds as though bringing the mutants to the MCU remains a top priority.

While speaking to fans at the Shanghai Expo, Feige confirmed plans for X-Men to help launch the studio’s post-Multiverse Saga slate.

I can’t wait for all of you to see Avengers: Doomsday, we have a movie after that called Avengers: Secret Wars, and after that the mutants are coming and the X-Men are coming and that’s been a dream of mine. I started with the X-Men many, many years ago and to bring a new version into the MCU is going to be very exciting.

-Kevin Feige

Feige didn’t stop with the timeline. Continuing to discuss the film, he seemingly confirmed insider reports that the MCU Children of the Atom would be female focused.

There are so many great female characters and some of my favorite female characters are in a group called the X-Men,” Feige said.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that Kitty Pryde, who had a minimal role in Fox’s X-Men franchise, would be one of the new film’s co-leads and Feige has often expressed his fanboy love for Dazzler. Other female characters such as Rogue and Storm, who were poorly adapted by Fox, and Jubilee–a primary character in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97--also come to mind as candidates to be part of the MCU’s first iteration of the X-Men.
