During its Hall H Panel at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios gave fans their first look at its post-Secret Wars theatrical slate. Traditionally, Kevin Feige would wow the crowd with timeline images complete with dates and title treatments; however, after struggling to hold to its own plans over the last several years, the studio took a different approach.
Under Bob Iger’s second tenure as the head of Disney, the big Marvel machine was instructed to scale back its production efforts, prioritizing quality over quantity. Surprisingly, in 2025, the studio had set placeholders for four feature films in 2028. Then, in March, the studio reshuffled its slate, reducing its projected theatrical output in 2028 to three films. During its July 25th SDCC panel, the studio pinned down two of those releases and, with Feige having promised that the X-Men were going to lead the way for the studio after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, it seems like all three 2028 dates may be spoken for.
Three 2028 Release Dates
Though Disney has and will continue to reshuffle its release dates, as it stands, Marvel Studios is slated to release films on the following dates.
- May 5, 2028
- July 28 2028
- December 15, 2028
During the Hall H presentation, Feige revealed that the newly announced Ghost Rider film, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy, will hit screens in 2028. Though it wasn’t given a dare, it will be released on either May 5 or July 28.
Director Ryan Coogler was also on hand to reveal that the third installment in his Black Panther franchise, which will see The Long Walk star David Jonsson join the MCU as an aged-up T’Challa II, will be released on December 15.
That leaves Marvel Studios X-Men for the third date. With the studio working hard to keep the identity of Sadie Sink‘s character a secret, it’s possible news on the X-Men film could come at D23, after Spider-Man: Brand New Day has had time to breathe.
