  • ‘Prey’ 3-Day Debut Dominates Hulu’s Viewership Numbers

‘Prey’ 3-Day Debut Dominates Hulu’s Viewership Numbers

While many have wondered why the latest Predator film with the title Prey ended up as a Hulu exclusive, it definitely has become quite a popular film online. well, it seems that the story of the fierce warrior Naru has hit a cord with viewers. 20th Century Studios’ latest film has premiered on Hulu, Disney+, and Star+ in specific markets as the most watched film debut on the services.

Not only that, but it also has seemingly beaten the TV series’ debuts viewership numbers based on hours watched in the first three days of its release. It’s a testament to the genre film created by Dan Trachtenberg and his team. There’s sadly no specific number to get a feeling for just how huge the release has been, but it’s great to see such a unique project get the acclaim it deserves.

There’s also a testament to the draw that a Native-American cast has with audiences, which hopefully also opens up the windows to many more diverse projects getting more acclaim. It does also open up the question again of how massive the project would’ve been if it hit theaters, but there’s always a risk with genre films, especially R-rated ones. though, there’s something interesting about it also being a massive streaming success, which may also further push for an R-rated inclusion in Disney+ to grow its viewership.

  • Jamie Foxx Reflects On Almost Spoiling ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Jamie Foxx Reflects On Almost Spoiling ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

The release of Spider-Man: No Way Home was shrouded in studio secrecy. Multiple major characters were returning from previous films, including all three live-action Spider-Men, and the information was being kept under heavy wraps. However, despite the studio’s best efforts, rumors about a multiversal team-up taking place in the film were making the rounds almost from day one. This was in huge part because, very early in the production process, Jamie Foxx announced his own return to the franchise as the villain Electro, with an Instagram post that included an image of more than one Spider-Man.

The post was quickly deleted, but the damage was irreparable. Foxx’s social media became ground zero for a storm of theories and Internet whispers that were ultimately mostly correct. Speaking with CinemaBlend about the incident nearly two years later, the actor admits he made a mistake in almost blowing Sony’s cover:

It was crazy. It was like a- it was like a rock concert, when we did that film. And I thought Sony did a fantastic job of mystique. You know what I’m saying? Holding things, keeping things – you know, I kind of almost blew it… But I think they did a great job in doing that, bringing some mystique. And I think that that’s what was needed to get people back in the theater.

    Jamie Foxx

Foxx also commented on what it was like to see Tom HollandAndrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire suited up together for the first time. The excitement of the moment almost made the Django Unchained star “blow it” again, until someone else on set put a stop to what could have been the most infamous spoiler in film history:

As soon as I got on the set and there was all three Spider-Mans, I was like this (picks up cell phone). ’Oh, we up in here, baby, ‘bout to go live…’ And somebody just dove on me like I was a fire. I was like, ‘What the hell?’ ‘Shh! No one’s supposed to know.’ ‘Okay, my bad. Okay, we ain’t supposed to know that all three of them are here!’

    Jamie Foxx

Holland is well-known for his history of spoiling, but it looks like he wasn’t the one Sony should have been worried about. Now that the secret is out, however, fans can experience all the thrilling action again in Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version, an extended cut of the film that hits theaters on September 1st.

  • Around The League: NFC East

    Around The League: NFC East

As we barrel towards week one and teams try to make it out of training camp and preseason in one piece, our eyes turn to what the regular season can bring each team. Each week, we’ll look around the league to ask one question about each team, division by division. We begin in the NFC East, where there is a lot of transition and questions for every team. However, the heavy emphasis is on the pass catchers.

    1. Is CeeDee Lamb ready to be the best WR on a playoff team? The Dallas Cowboys traded veteran WR Amari Cooper and opted to go younger at the position while elevating Michael Gallup to the undisputed number two WR. The reason they felt comfortable doing that is that CeeDee Lamb took the production leap in year two with 79 catches for 1102 yards and 6 TDs. Now entering year 3, he will be asked to lead this Cowboys passing attack that will be in the next year of Mike McCarthy’s offense. An All-Pro season for Lamb would not be shocking, as Dak Prescott will also now be two years removed from his devastating knee injury. If Prescott and Lamb are on, the Cowboys are the favorites in this division.

    2. How dynamic of a duo will AJ Brown and Devonta Smith be? The Philadelphia Eagles opted for the more proven commodity this off-season when they dealt one of their first-round picks to the Titans for stud WR AJ Brown. Instead of adding another WR from a deep WR class, they felt having the big body Brown to pair with former Heisman winner Devonta Smith was the better route, and I can’t say I blame them. AJ dealt with injuries last year but did post back-to-back 1000-yard seasons his first two years. He will help QB Jalen Hurts badly, and will open things up for Devonta in Nick Sirriani’s offense. Brown is, arguably, the best WR in the division.

    3. How much does Terry McClaurin help new QB Carson Wentz? One of the more underrated WRs in football, McClaurin is coming off his second straight 75+ REC, 1000+ yard season. He chipped in 5 TDs playing with literally nobody at QB, so now he gets former first-round pick QB Carson Wentz. Wentz is coming off a season where he threw for 3563 yards, 27 TDs, and 7 INTs: to put that in perspective, that would have been the highest TD total for any Washington Commander QB since 2017. Wentz struggled down the stretch, but he didn’t have a WR like McClaurin, and how good they connect early will open things up for rookie WR Jahan Dotson and this passing attack.

    4. What Giants WR steps up for QB Daniel Jones? The worst WR group in this division belongs to the New York Giants, as I think Kenny Golladay would be squarely 7th overall if you ranked the top two of each team. Kadarius Toney had little impact last year, and Commanders’ rookie WR Jahan Dotson is better than Toney was coming out. Sterling Shepherd is a solid C WR, and is reportedly on the chopping block. Make no mistake, a lot of Giant fans expecting Daniel Jones to take a Josh Allen-leap need to point out where the Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley of this offense are. The Giants need Toney to flash more than what he’s shown (I still believe he was overdrafted), and they need Golladay to return to his Pro Bowl form or they’ll be drafting in the top 5 next year. At this point, it won’t matter who the WRs that remain on this team are because they’ll be taking a QB and starting from scratch.

New ‘Echo’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Vincent D’Onofrio’s Return as Kingpin

Just the other day we got our first look at set photos from Ironheart, which revealed our first look at the Marvel villain The Hood. Now, Atlanta Filming has also shared some set photos from Echo offering our first look at the returning Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.

It looks like he is continuing to rock his white suit that is a combination of gis traditional comic outfit and what he wore in Daredevil Season 3. The actor is set to return in the role for the sequel series Daredevil: Born Again heading to Disney+ with a whopping 18 episodes.

The set photos offer the confirmation that not only did he survive the shot from Echo back in Hawkeye. The bigger surprise is that he didn’t take any damage from the ordeal but that could be something we see earlier in the season as he recovers

  • The Morning After Huddle: August 9, 2022

The Morning After Huddle: August 9, 2022

The Morning After Huddle is back for your Tuesday fix of all things NFL. Legatron is putting on for the brand (word to Pat McAfee) with a contract extension.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • First, Kicker Justin Tucker will sign a massive contract extension with the Ravens this week. The Ravens are tossing $24 million Tucker’s way with $17.5 million guaranteed. The deal keeps Tucker in Baltimore through 2027. As I’m sure you’re aware, Mr. Justin Tucker owns the longest FG ever at a whopping 66 yards. Not to mention, he’s never missed a kick in the final minute of regulation. Unreal.
    • Second on our list today, the NFL appears to be cracking down on illegal hits this season. The NFL has asked referees to pay particular attention to ”illegal contact” with the hopes that this will, obviously, increase the number of calls in 2022. Another area of focus for 2022 will revolve around roughing the passer. The NFL competition committee has clarified that contact to the helmet and below-the-knee area must be forcible. (Translation: Refs have gotten real flag happy over the last season for even the slightest amount of contact – I’m looking at you, Tom Brady!)

  • Paramount Sets Release Dates for ‘Sonic 3,’ ‘Smurfs’ Musical

Paramount Sets Release Dates for ‘Sonic 3,’ ‘Smurfs’ Musical

There’s a third Sonic the Hedgehog film on the way.

Paramount announced a release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 late on Monday. The threequel will hit theaters on Dec. 20th, 2024. The studio also set a new release date for its newest Smurfs film, an animated musical, with the project slated to hit theaters on Feb. 14th, 2025.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was officially announced as being in development back in February, before the second film even hit theaters. The movie is based on the classic Sega video game franchise of the same name. Despite controversy surrounding the first film, which led to the redesign of Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog managed to go on to earn $319.7 million worldwide back in 2020. Its sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, hit theaters this past April and managed to surpass the box office haul of its predecessor with an impressive $401.8 million at the worldwide box office.

As for Smurfs, Sony found some success with 2011’s The Smurfs, its sequel The Smurfs 2 (2013) and Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. Now, Paramount is hoping to do the same with the launch of an animated Smurfs musical in 2025. Like with Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the Smurfs film was first announced in February of this year. The project is part of a new deal between Paramount and Nickelodeon. The new deal includes multiple animated films to be released through Paramount, as well as a second season of the animated series The Smurfs on Nickelodeon.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Directors Tease Lockjaw in Possible Season 2

‘Ms. Marvel’ Directors Tease Lockjaw in Possible Season 2

Ms. Marvel captured the attention of fans and critics during its six-week run on Disney+. The series, starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is now one of the highest-rated projects in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we know that Ms. Marvel will appear next in the upcoming The Marvels, the show’s success begs the question of whether Kamala will end up with a second season or solo feature.

There are plenty of reasons why Season 2 of Ms. Marvel could be in the cards for Phase 5 or 6 in the MCU. Unsurprisingly, series directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have been questioned numerous times about the possibility. In an interview with IGN, Fallah remarked that “there’s much more we can do with Kamala Khan,” including further exploring and growing her powers. El Ardi added an additional, and potentially exciting, comment:

“[Ms. Marvel] has that big dog. If there’s another season or a movie, the big dog is going to have to be a big character in it.”

    Adil El Arbi

El Arbi is referring to Lockjaw, a massive dog and loyal companion to the Inhuman royal family with the power of inter-dimensional teleportation. The idea of Lockjaw appearing in future Ms. Marvel solo projects is interesting on multiple levels. First, of course, it adds to the question of whether Inhumans exist in the current MCU and Kamala’s connection to them. This traditional aspect of the comic book character was seemingly changed when the series finale indicated that Kamala was a mutant. Second, Lockjaw has already made a live-action appearance in the greater Marvel Universe in Marvel TV’s infamous Inhumans. Like Blackbolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Lockjaw could appear as a multiversal variant of his Inhumans version.

In any event, Ms. Marvel’s directors and showrunners seem keen on ideas for a second season of the series. In Ms. Marvel comics, Lockjaw was a frequent ally and companion to Kamala, sent by the Inhuman royal family to watch over her.

  • Zazie Beetz to Return in ‘Joker’ Sequel

Zazie Beetz to Return in ‘Joker’ Sequel

When the Joker sequel was announced, all eyes were on the fact that not only was it going to be a musical but also Lady Gaga is very likely taking on the role of Harley Quinn. We still don#t know any details about the project, but we did get a confirmation that she is definitely joining the project in an unknown role. In a surprising twist, it seems that a familiar face is going to return to the project from the first entry, as Zazie Beetz will take on the role of Sophie Dumond once again.

While there have been hints that Joker: Folie à Deux will mostly take place in Arkham Asylum, the ending did keep a lot of questions open on how much of the story was actually Arthur Fleck’s experience or in the character’s mind. Carried mostly by Joaquin Phoenix‘s performance, the project played with the viewer’s perception of what is and isn’t real. As such was the story arc of Beetz‘ Dumond. While it seemed that she was slowly falling in love with Fleck, it turns out it was all in his mind.

There’s no word on how her character might tie into the story, perhaps they’ll play around with the idea that she’s an inmate or someone that is still haunting Fleck’s subconscious. It would be strange if she returns for a brief appearance or generally if they want to further explore his actions as he fully became the Joker. Perhaps we get to see Gotham from her perspective as everything has gone insane after Fleck accidentally led a faction into trying to overtake the city. Whatever may be, we’ll have to wait and see.

  • ‘One Piece Film RED’ Nabs the Second-Biggest Box Office Opening in Japan

‘One Piece Film RED’ Nabs the Second-Biggest Box Office Opening in Japan

One Piece has been slowly growing its international presence ahead of the live-action series hitting Netflix at some point in the future. While production has been busy, it’s not the only major project finding development. The original manga by Eiichiro Oda is about to enter its final saga and kicked it off with quite the bang. Not only is One Piece Odyssey on the horizon to release later this year, but we also had the world premiere of the fifteenth film entry simply titled RED.

The story focuses on the Strawhat pirate’s arrival at a concert by the superstar Uta. As it turns out, she’s not only a childhood friend of Luffy but also the daughter of Shanks; probably one of the biggest revelations to catch people off-guard when the first trailer dropped. The film has now opened in Japan across 495 screens on August 6th and has already made quite the splash.

According to Crunchyroll, One Piece Film RED has made 2.25 billion yen, which equates to $16.63M. What makes this stand out is that it’s now the biggest opening for a One Piece film yet and even the second-biggest two-day opening weekend in Japanese history. The only one still standing at the top was Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train which pulled in 3.3 billion yen. It did take the top spot from Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which stood at 1.6 billion yen.

It’s also now the third film to make one billion yen on opening day and only the second to make another billion on its second day. So, it’s safe to say that the project has definitely had quite a bit of hype behind it and with the current events in the manga unfolding, there’s a likelihood it could also perform quite well internationally. Mugen Train was a big international success during the pandemic, and it’ll be interesting to see

  • New ‘Ironheart’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Her New Armor

New ‘Ironheart’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Her New Armor

It looks like we’re getting some set photos from the upcoming Ironheart series. While not much is known about the Disney+ project, and how it’ll tie into her appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever but it looks like we’re definitely getting an armor. The surprising reveal is the fact that it’s not as lean as we know it from the comics and even seems to be a different take on an earlier design, especially with how bulky it is.

Perhaps it’s an evolution of the one that was teased in the Black Panther trailer and even merchandise. The set photos shared by @ironhnews not only show Dominique Thorne in a part practical and part CG suit but also the armor in its full detail.

The fact that they didn’t skip to her final design from the comics makes this stand out quite a bit. It’s a very bulky design and likely one of her earlier models. Here’s hoping we get to see it evolve throughout the series run, especially as she starts to embrace her own design that’ll make it stand out. With The Hood now finally confirmed as part of the series, it does open up many more questions on how the story will tie together and if perhaps her armor may be one of the catalysts leading into Armor Wars.
