SDCC: First Look at Disney+’s ‘American Born Chinese’

Here’s a surprise but it seems that during a San Diego Comic-Con mixer, a first look at Disney+’s series American Born Chinese has been unveiled. While it’s not actual footage, there’s a banner that includes a first look at the series that’ll adapt Gene Luen Yang‘s iconic graphic novel. Ben Wang will take on the titular role of Jin, and is joined by quite the cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Wu, Chin Han, Stephanie Hsu, Poppy Liu, and more.

While it’s a shame we don’t get any trailer or footage of the project, it’s still quite exciting to finally see how far the project has come, which sees Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton back in the director’s chair for a Disney project. Here’s hoping that this tease also means we’ll get the first look in the near future as well.

SDCC: Henry Cavill Did Not Show Up During DC’s Hall H Panel After All

Well, the San Diego Comic-Con panel for DC Comics has come to an end. Surprisingly, this year was quite the mellow offering with only the focus being on Shazam: Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. It seems that Warner Bros. wanted to keep a focus on the projects that are set to release this year. We didn’t even get a tease for Aquaman or even The Flash, which have been heavily promoted during DC FanDome.

Earlier rumors hinted at Henry Cavill showing up during the Hall H panel to announce his return as Superman was heavily rumored but it turns out that wasn’t the case after all. the panel ended with a nice gift from Dwayne Johnson for the attendees, as they got a golden ticket for an early screening of Black Adam. Yet, Henry Cavill was nowhere in sight and the panel ended on a sweet but somber note.

SDCC: Viola Davis Returning as Amanda Waller For ‘Black Adam’

Black Adam made a thunderous appearance in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the rest of the cast coming along to tease the man in black’s big debut later this year. To end the panel, the cast shared a brief new look at the film, with the footage revealing a familiar face to DC fans.

San Diego Comic Con footage for Black Adam confirmed the return of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. It is currently unknown how big her role is within the film, but we do know that she will indeed be returning. It was previously reported the Jennifer Holland would also be returning in the film as Emilia Harcourt. That, of course, remains to be seen.

This just begs the question as to when Black Adam is set within the DC Extended Universe timeline as the end of Peacemaker would make for an odd situation in the film between Harcourt and Waller.

For now, fans can enjoy the new trailer for Black Adam and check it out when it hits theaters this October.

SDCC: ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ Trailer Includes a ‘The Suicide Squad’ Easter Egg

The Shazam: Fury of The Gods trailer has finally arrived and fans are already anticipating the return of the Wizards champions. The trailer included some great references to the wider DC Extended Universe with glimpses of characters like the Flash, Batman, and Aquaman but if you look a little closer you’ll notice some references to another recent DC film.

If you look close enough you’ll be able to spot multiple references to Starro, the villain of The Suicide Squad. The world briefly got a glimpse of the conquerer on television, seen stomping down the streets of Corto Maltese as Task Force X took it on.

SDCC: ‘Black Adam’ Director on What Inspired Their Take on the Anti-Hero

Black Adam is the one DC film that promises to change everything. Dwayne Johnson has been hyping up the project for quite some time now, and many wondered how they’d tackle an anti-hero in contrast to the usual superhero fare. Luckily, it seems that they took some inspiration from other mediums, as director Jaume Collet-Serra compared the character to be like Dirty Harry.

This seemed like a Dirty Harry-type of character. When the system is broken and when the system is corrupt, you need someone to break the system down. I gravitated towards that.

During the Warner Bros. and DC presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, those lucky enough to get into Hall H were treated to plenty of exciting teases. Leading man Zachary Levi and director David F. Sandberg were on hand to unveil exclusive footage for the crowd, while also teasing what they could expect when the sequel hits theaters. While fans had the ability to ask questions, there was one question, in particular, that is sure to interest most fans.

One fan asked if we could expect Superman in all his red-caped glory to show-up, to which Sandberg responded, “That’s a spoiler. There’s a lot going on in the movie.”

While that’s neither a confirmation nor denial, it does leave hope for fans eager to see Henry Cavill return as Superman. Especially after reports suggested the actor would be on hand at the Warner Bros. panel. It remains to be seen whether or not the actor returns as the Man of Steel. However, Warner Bros. and DC have made it a habit of using a stand-in for recent Superman appearances – like in the first Shazam! film and more recently the HBO Max series Peacemaker.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on Dec. 21st, 2022.

There has been a lot of speculation on whole exactly who Rachel Zegler might be playing in the upcoming Shazam: Fury of the Gods. While Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu characters were confirmed as villains, the early casting news was surprisingly shy on who exactly she might be. Well, San Diego Comic-Con is here and no secret stays a secret forever. Not only did we get a first good look at her in armor during the first trailer reveal, but they also confirmed she’s a Daughter of Atlas, Antaeus. For those mythology buffs, the name is actually that of the son Poseidon and Gaea.

Just a few months back fans were bummed to hear the shifting of power within the hierarchy of the DC universe would be taking a little longer then anticipated as the studio shifted release dates so that VFX could be completed on time. It seems thing are indeed ready to go sooner than we thought.

As the cast of Black Adam took to the stage the director of the film himself, Jaume Collet-Serra confirmed that he has completed editing on the film and it’s now picture locked. Collet confirmed that he screened the film to the cast just the night before the panel as well.

That’s a big deal for me. That means no more notes.”

While the sequel to the 2018 film has yet to hit theaters, some are already wondering about the third.

Zachary Levi was asked at the Hall H panel for Fury of The Gods about a potential third film, and if he would like to reprise the role.

  • SDCC: Zack Snyder Heading to ‘Teen Titans Go!’

SDCC: Zack Snyder Heading to ‘Teen Titans Go!’

In what might just be the most unexpected news to come from San Diego Comic-Con, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Zack Snyder is returning to DC. Just not in the way some fans might’ve hoped. The outlet has revealed that Snyder is set to guest star on Teen Titans Go!

The director is set to appear in the 365th episode of the animated series, which will be titled “365!” To celebrate their 365th episode, the Teen Titans want to do something special. This results in them heading to Warner Bros. to find a director, only to stumble upon Snyder. The episode will air on Cartoon Network this fall.

Snyder, of course, has a long history with DC and Warner Bros. – with not all of it being great. The director helped to kick off the DC Extended Universe, before having to exit Justice League due to a family tragedy. Justice League would later hit theaters, but not without controversy. Fans would later successfully get Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to finish the Snyder-cut of Justice League, which aired exclusively on HBO Max last year before being released on home media.

While it’s not the Snyder return fans were probably looking for, fans should be pleased to see Snyder’s still involved with DC… kind of.
