    Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

    Premiere: June 26, 2026

Comic book writer Tom King was called “one of the architects” of the new DCU by James Gunn and his 2022 book, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is being adapted as a feature film in Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The film won’t be a one-to-one adaptation, according to Gunn, who says the DCU’s Supergirl will be much more “hardcore” based on her traumatic past. “In our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents. Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first fourteen years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more fucked up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.”

In January 2024, it was reported that Milly Alcock, Meg Donnelly and Emilia Jones were among those screen testing for the role of Kara Zor-El. After Jones dropped out of contention for the role, Alcock became the DCU’s Supergirl on January 29, 2024.

In April 2024, trade reports indicated that Craig Gillespie was DC Studios’ top target to direct the film and that production was slated to kick off in late 2024. In May 2024, the film was given a release date of June 26, 2026.

In September 2024, Old Guard star Matthias Schoenaerts was cast as the film’s main antagonist, Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Described by Peter Safran as a “terrestrial-based investigation story” that’s “much more True Detective” than space operaLanterns will be a Max streaming series that focuses on DC’s two most iconic Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. As for what the Lanterns are investigating, according to Safran it’s an “ancient horror” found on Earth that “plays a really big role leading us into the main story” of Gods and Monsters.

In September 2024, casting for the series got underway when Emmy-award-winning actor Kyle Chandler landed the role of Hal Jordan. Shortly after that, Aaron Pierre landed the role of series co-lead John Stewart.

    Premiere: July 11, 2025

Though it won’t be the first DCU project to be released, Peter Safran has referred to Superman: Legacy as the “start of the DCU.” Referred to as a “four-quadrant film” by James Gunn, the goal is to make the film “for everyone” and that’s a tough job. To do so, Gunn is looking to take the Man of Steel back to his roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way.” “He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned,” said Gunn of Kal-El, who will be established as a major player in the new DCU in Superman: Legacy.

The search for the DCU’s Superman and Lois kicked off in earnest in May when Gunn and crew began screen-testing actors. Following the tests, David Corenswet landed the part of Kal-El and Rachel Brosnahan rose to the top of an impressive list of talent to become the DCU’s Lois Lane. Several months later, Nicholas Hoult–who also read for the role of Superman–was cast as Lex Luthor.

Superman: Legacy will feature a handful of other metahuman heroes who are already active in the world when the movie takes place. Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific will be joined by Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan). María Gabriela De Faría is set to play another comic book hero, The Engineer, but with a twist: the character will be one of the film’s villains.

On February 29th, 2024, James Gunn revealed that production had begun on the film which had been retitled Superman.

GEEKED WEEK: New Anime Series Based on Junji Ito’s Horror Stories in Development

It looks like after the bad reception of the Junji Ito Collection, Netflix is trying its hand at bringing the famed horror mangaka’s visions to life in a new anime series. While the preview only gives us a slight look at some concept art drawn by Ito himself, they haven’t offered much on how they’ll bring the series to life outside of multiple series planned to get added over time which are eyeing a 2023 release.

So far, they have confirmed that the three parts will be released: Tomie, Soichi, and the Hanging Blimp shorts. The series will be titled Junji Ito MANIAC and it’s kind of great to have an additional statement made by the creator himself. It should be noted that Cartoon Network is also actively developing an adaptation of his iconic horror manga, Uzumaki.

GEEKED WEEK: First Look at Upcoming Anime Projects Heading to Netflix

We’ve got a first look at some new anime series heading to Netflix. They’ve been busy working with some talented animation artist in the industry to bring some iconic new series to life, such as Exception. A new sci-fi series where people explore the galaxy to find a new home to terraform.

That#s not all, as there’s also a new project from Wit Studio titled Moonrise, which will very likely bring us some beautiful animations as they did with Bubble and Attack on Titan.

Last but not least, it looks like Netflix is actively working on a The Seven Deadly Sins spinoff that’ll explore the story of Tristan, Meliodas’ son in a new two-part film series.

The series will continue exactly where the last one left off, but will now be titled Masters of the Universe: Revolution and no longer Revelation. • Zack Snyder Shares First Look at Anthony Hopkins’ ‘Rebel Moon’ Character

Zack Snyder Shares First Look at Anthony Hopkins’ ‘Rebel Moon’ Character

Geeked Week continues to offer some fun details and looks at what the future of Netflix has in store for viewers. Earlier today, we learned that Anthony Hopkins is going to play Jimmy, who is a sentient JC1435 battle robot in Zack Snyder‘s upcoming sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon. It’s a great casting addition but we didn’t get a good look at what the actor may look like. Luckily, Snyder didn’t waste any time showcasing his design on Twitter shortly after.

At first, we assumed that he may only be voicing a robot but the design does look more humanoid than expected. So, there might be a chance that he got to play the character on set. Of course, there are no confirmations on how Jimmy was brought to life in the upcoming film, but it’s great that he didn’t waste any time offering a first look at the character.

We’ll see if we potentially et other casting reveals alongside a first look at the character. The cast already sounds quite promising and Snyder has his own way of bringing many actors together to create some visually stunning pictures. So, it’s surprising that it took him this long to do a sci-fi film considering the visual palette it offers for him to bring to life.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Star Worked With VFX Supervisors to Bring New Powers to Life

‘Ms. Marvel’ Star Worked With VFX Supervisors to Bring New Powers to Life

There was some controversy surrounding the decision to change Ms. Marvel’s iconic abilities. While people have warmed up to the idea, especially as it still keeps the door open for further exploring, Iman Vellani offered some insight into how they brought her new powers to life for the Disney+ series. In an interview with Variety, she talks about how they tackled the new MCU ability and the challenges of doing so, especially as she had to coordinate with the series’ VFX supervisors.

A lot of it was having conversations with our VFX supervisors, [asking] “How heavy is it? How hard is it for me to manifest it? How big is it? How much space do I have to leave in a frame?” Because if my hands here [motions to the outer corner of the Zoom frame] then you’re not going to be able to VFX anything in there.” We had to be super specific about it. It’s an amalgamation of a lot of people’s thoughts and opinions, and now Kamala has these really cool powers.

    Iman Vellani

She also highlighted how she approach the way her character moved. As she’s a ser fan of the various superheroes, sh based a lot of her abilities on how others moved, such as Captain Marvel and Black Widow. Yet, she highlights that she’ll eventually also grow into her own kind of hero.

She’s a 16-year-old kid, probably doesn’t know martial arts or any sort of fighting, so she’s probably copying everything she sees the rest of the Avengers do. So, we wanted to incorporate like a lot of Black Widow callbacks and Captain Marvel poses because this was really the only show where we could be as cheesy as possible and it’d be okay. This is Kamala’s life. She lives in fantasy land and she finally gets this fantasy — of course, she’s going to take full advantage of it. Over the course of time, she becomes her own version of a superhero — still clumsy, because she’s not perfect — but more unique poses.

    Iman Vellani

It definitely sounds like they put a lot of work into bringing the character to life while keeping her core traits in mind. She’s a fan of superheroes and will have the habit of trying to copy them rather than do her own thing. Her family might be a big reason she starts to learn her own place and also further develops these abilities that may redefine her life as a teenager and hero.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani Teases ‘The Marvel’s, Praises Director and Co-Stars

‘Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani Teases ‘The Marvel’s, Praises Director and Co-Stars

While Iman Vellani is busy promoting the new Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, she’s also set to join the big screen in the upcoming film The Marvels. She’ll join Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in a leading role, as they unite their forces against a common foe. We still know very little about the project, but it turns out that Vellani only found out moments before Disney Investor’s Day as revealed during an interview with Variety.

It was a night shoot when they were announcing everything at Disney Investor Day. Right before they announced “The Marvels” cast, I get a text from Disney PR, I get a text from Brie Larson and I get a text from our producers all at the same time saying I’m in the movie and then they announced it on the screen. I was like, “Thank you.” I had a hunch I was going to be in it, but more of a cameo role, not an actual main character, so it was cool.

    Iman Vellani

It definitely must’ve been quite the surprise when she thinks she’ll have a small role only to become a main member of the cast. Nia DaCosta is taking over directing duties for The Marvels and Vellani got the chance to praise the director for how she supported the actress during the shoot and even pushed her to improvise.

Nia DaCosta is my favorite human ever. I think she’s so talented and so caring and considerate. She’s very much an actor’s director. Like after she gets a take she wants, she’s like “This is yours. Do whatever you want. Anything we haven’t tried, just do it.” She would always give positive reinforcement, even if she didn’t have any notes. She’s be like “That little thing you did with your hand, I really liked that.” And I’m like, “Oh, wow. She noticed!” She really cares and checks up on you.

    Iman Vellani

That’s not all, as she also extends that praise to Larson and Parris, who both were seemingly quite supportive during her time on set. Of course, there’s the excitement of joining them in a film like this.

Brie and Teyonah are the same. Standing next to them, sharing a screen with them is so empowering. I didn’t want to be the one to continually just gush over them, so I had to hold back a little bit, because they took it very seriously, and I’m just like, “Oh my God, I’m in a movie.”

    Iman Vellani

It definitely sounds like it was quite the experience and we’ll see if the ending of Ms. Marvel potentially leads into the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out what the future has in store but it does sound like Vellani had a great time bringing the character to life in the Disney+ show and then carrying it over into her first film project.

  • Hayley Atwell Teases Her Future With the MCU Beyond ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Hayley Atwell Teases Her Future With the MCU Beyond ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Hayley Atwell has been a mainstay with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the first Captain America film. While she hasn’t had a major role in the films, she got her own TV show with two seasons and was a recurring character throughout the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Many were surprised when she returned as Captain Carter in the What If…? series only to also reappear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

During a panel at 2022’s Awesome Con, as shared by the Cosmic Circus, Hayley Atwell was asked about her future and highlighted her experience playing her and hopes to grow beyond just being “a minor player” within the MCU. Yet, in regards to her future, she could only share the following:

Well…I haven’t got news for you. But I share your enthusiasm. And I would love to if Marvel did find a home for her; that’s a home that feels worthy of her in terms of her evolution as a character and development as a character:

    Hayley Atwell

There have been rumors that Marvel Studios is considering a live-action Captain Carter project, but it has not been officially unveiled. Plus, it would be quite surprising for viewers that saw her death at the hand of Wanda Maximoff in the Doctor Strange sequel. The multiverse is vast but it could become a challenge if they start introducing characters that don’t exist within the main MCU timeline. Yet, it could also open up many new opportunities to tell stories they otherwise couldn’t.
