After first hearing about the project, many were surprised that Apple TV+ got the rights to develop a Monsterverse series that’ll act as a spinoff of the franchise set up with Godzilla set up back in 2014. While it went silent after the initial announcement, Legendary Pictures has revealed that the WandaVision director will direct the first two episodes.
Looks like his time with Marvel Studios has made him a must-get for studios in Hollywood. Not only is he working on this new Apple TV+ series, but he’s also on board to direct the next Star Trek film featuring the return of Chris Pine’s era as Captain Kirk through the Kelvin Timeline. As he hasn’t started production yet, he may be busy with these two episodes before he starts work on the feature film.
The director brought a charming tribute to classic TV sitcoms with WandaVision and is now heading to space, as well as a Titan-infested world coping with the devastation in their wake. So, he’s definitely upping his game in the industry and exploring new avenues.
It’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the table with the series, especial as it’s unclear if it’ll also feature any of the Titans from the Monsterverse series. There were hints that it’ll act as a direct spinoff from 2014’s Godzilla, as a family explores their mysterious connection to the secret organization Monarch. So, here’s hoping we get some monster action throughout.
Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law officially debuted its first trailer yesterday and managed to amass an impressive amount of views within its first 24-hours.
The studio took to Twitter late Thursday night to announce the first trailer pulled in 78 million views within its first 24-hours. The tweet showed She-Hulk holding a cell phone featuring yesterday’s tweet featuring the trailer and release date for the series. The accompanying tweet says, “You REALLY like her when she’s angry! Thanks to our incredible fans for a smashing 78 million #SheHulk trailer views in 24 hours!”
Since the trailer’s debut yesterday, a fair amount of the conversation regarding She-Hulk has been about the “wonky” CGI when Jennifer Walters transforms into She-Hulk. Of course, with the show not premiering until August, the studio still has plenty of time to get the effects finished in time. It’s (unfortunately) normal for most effects to still be worked on up until the last possible moment. It’s something we see with blockbuster films constantly, and with a series like She-Hulk featuring a CGI character, it’s understanding as to why it wasn’t perfect in the initial trailer.
Now that Daredevil’s new Disney+ series has been officially confirmed, it does add a lot of weight to what could happen with the rest of the Netflix Marvel cast moving forward. So, this news also adds to an Instagram post by Mike Colter and Krysten Ritter where the former included the captions “L.C. + J.J. = Big Tease” alongside hashtags of their characters and Marvel. Of course, with many theorizing abouttheir potential return alongside Charlie Cox, the photo definitely adds a spark of fire to those who believed they’ll also make their return at some point.
It definitely is a tease to get people hyped, and there’s always a chance that they just happened to run into each other. Of course, they may be working on some kind of project together. Luke Cage actor Mike Colter has been busy working on the Parmaount+ series Evil. Krysten Ritter is set to appear in the HBO Max project Love and Death, which is a miniseries where she’ll appear alongside fellow Marvel actress Elizabeth Olsen.
What seemed like a fun tweet between former co-stars has now become the feeding bed for many theories, especially witht he “big tease” inclusion in the Instagram post. It does open up the question where they might show up, but a private investigator would be perfect addition for a series like Secret Invasion, as Nick Fury needs someone off the radar to look into something for him. Luke Cage could still be running Harlem’s Paradise afte rhe chased out Mariah Dillard. So, who knows who might pop up there in a brief visit to Harlem.
We just got the news that Daredevil is finally getting a Disney+ series, which is the first new entry since the Netflix series’ third season premiered in 2018. The only thing revealed was that Matt Corman and Chris Ord were working on the revival series, but luckily The Hollywood Reporter has added that it’ll act as “a new and continued series” from the original hinting at it being a continuation of the Netflix series.
We know that Charlie Cox is returning to the franchise, as he returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home as the character for a brief appearance. While we got a good tease of what to expect, there have also been some hints that he may have a recurring role in other projects moving forward before he gets his solo series.
It seems like the hint is that this series will act as a continuation of the original three seasons, but likely with a twist. We don’t know how Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin ended up leading the Tracksuit Mafia and we don’t know if this series will explore what happened to them during the Blip. There are a lot of questions we’re still left with and with their return, also opens up the possibility of what it means for the rest of the Defenders. We’ll see if the rest might pop up somewhere else in the near future.
After being rumored for quite some time, the confirmation has finally arrived that a new Daredevil series is in development and heading to Disney+. Variety has just broken the news as Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write as well as executive produce the series. The rumors have been making the rounds for some time, especially after Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made their grand return in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye. The series is picking up steam.
There’s no word on which direction the story is heading and how it may pick up the story from the original Netflix series. Its third season saw Matt take down Bullseye, who pretended to be Daredevil. The return of Kingpin in Hawkeye did hint that he was rebuilding his Empire and with rumors making the rounds that the Man Without Fear might appear in She-Hulk, he’ll be out of town for a bit. So, there are many ways they could tackle this series.
Corman and Ord have made a name for themselves with their work on the USA network series Covert Affairs, which ran for five seasons. They have also acted as showrunners on series like The Enemy Within, The Brave, and CW’s Containment. There’s been a bit of hope for the series to revive and while it’s a shame that they didn’t bring on Season 3’s talented Erik Oleson, there’s always the chance he might make a return with a future season entry.
The first trailer for She-Hulk has finally arrived, and while some are focused on the rough CG, there is still a lot to take away from the trailer. We’ve already explored some of the Easter eggs such as an Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reference or its old logo being reused. Now, there’s also one thing the trailer seemingly gives away if you look closely and that may be Jennifer Walter’s origin story before turning into She-Hulk.
In the comics, Walters actually gets shot by Nicholas Trask, who also killed her mother. It was also someone that was after her as she had proclaimed she had evidence to put him behind bars while defending another gangster in court. After being seriously wounded, she was visiting her cousin Bruce Banner at the time who swiftly came to give her a blood transfusion, as there was no other option. This event led to her entering the metaphysical Green Door and was revived; now with the ability to transform similar to her cousin.
It’s unclear if the Green Door and Below-Place might become integral to her origin, as it is a part of the multiverse ruled by an evil entity that wants to destroy the Multiverse. Yet, the trailer does offer at least a glimpse at how they’ll twist her actual origin. It doesn’t seem like she’ll be shot but they are going a Doctor Strange route, as we can see a car drive off the road early in the trailer.
The timing and environment are also quite interesting, as it seems like wherever she ends up off-road isn’t too far from where she met up with her cousin Bruce in his Professor Hulk form. She seemingly is bringing him some kind of document and it does seem like they’ll reconnect before she faces the harsh transformation. Perhaps the part that remains is that she is involved with a legal case before getting the blood transfusion, and it could be connected to Emil Blonsky.
We briefly see him in the trailer in his human form before we get a brief tease of his transformation into Abomination. Perhaps that is in the opening of the series, where she is part of the new Superhero Law division and ends up having to defend her own cousin due to him suing him. While we remember that he did it to himself in The Incredible Hulk, perhaps Hulk was supposed to help him get this transformation under control but bailed to use it on himself.
No matter what, some lawsuit brings her to visit her cousin and she ends up in a car crash that may be the kick-off for her having to learn and control her abilities. Now, we do see a brief sequence of her transforming and looking into the damaged car, which could hint at her already having the Gamma radiation in her bloodstream. So, perhaps it’s not the traditional blood transfusion but an accident in their earlier meeting that led to it. So, we can’t rule out that maybe she drank something she wasn’t supposed to and ends up hulking out as a result. While we can only theorize, for now, the trailer does offer enough teases to potentially put together the puzzle on her revamped origin.
Those that haven’t experienced the animated Star Wars series might be a bit confused by the title. For those that haven’t had the pleasure, the Inquisitors from the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series have been around for a while now. They even appeared in the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game. This group of Jedi Hunters has a special lightsaber that is capable of whirling at high speeds to help them fly.
As it was a bit over-the-top, it made us wonder if the same will apply to the live-action arrival of the characters and it turns out Rupert Friend confirmed it. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he got a chance to sit down and share his excitement for fans to see the live-action debut of the Grand Inquisitor, where he confirmed that “he can fly with it” as well.
He can turn it into a whirling blade. He can fly with it. It’s pretty kick-ass.
Rupert Friend
In the interview, he also teases that he once was a Jedi, but doesn’t go into any details. So, we might get to explore what the Grand Inquisitor was before he fell to the Dark Side of the Force and became the driving force that he was to capture former members of the Jedi Council, who are on the run since the Empire took over, but Friend only said “all will be revealed in a couple of weeks.” in response to if we see his backstory.
The Masters of the Universe have found new life on streaming these days as the popular 80s franchise made its grand return. Netflix has become quite the hub for everything and anything MOTU with multiple animated series and most recently a live-action film in the works. Amazon looks to be making its way to Etheria as we got some news on the live-action She-Ra series.
Back in September, it was announced that Amazon had begun development on a live-action series following She-Re, the Princess of Power. The timing was perfect as the Netflix animated series, She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, became quite the hit. Variety has reported that Nicole Kassell, who is known for her work on HBO’s Watchmen, TheLeftovers, Westworld, and The Americans. Kassell will direct the pilot episode if ordered by the studio. Dreamworks Animation will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside Kassell. The project has yet to recruit a writer.
It is unknown just what the series will follow as previous versions of the character like the animated series on Netflix removed all ties to Eternia and Princess Adora’s family ties to Prince Adam and the royal family. All we know is that this will be a stand-alone story and will have no connection to the show. It is unknown just how rights may clash with Netflix as they are currently developing their own live-action He-Man film, meaning we could see Adora cut off from Eternia once more.
Originally Princess Adora, He-Man’s twin sister, was kidnapped as an infant by Hordak and brought to Etheria, and became an agent of the Horde. He-Man was the one who saved her and gave her the sword of protection, freeing her of her mind control and now being able to turn into She-Ra. The pilot has yet to be green-lit so it is still possible the project does not move forward at Amazon.
We’re only a little over a week away from the release of Disney+’s next Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’ll feature the return of Ewan McGregor to the role that he played in the original prequel trilogy. He’s also be joined by Hayden Christensen, who will once again take on the role of Darth Vader, as the once Jedi Master navigates an Empire-ruled galaxy. It looks like the events of the first film have led to him losing his faith and, as a result, also can no longer use the force. McGregor revealed this surprising fact during the official press conference for the Disney+ series.
At the end of the third episode, you know, the Jedi Order is all but destroyed. Those who aren’t killed have gone into hiding and can’t communicate with each other. For ten years, Obi-Wan has been in hiding, can’t communicate with any of his old comrades. He’s living a pretty solitary life, he can’t use the force. So, in a way, he’s lost his faith. It’s like someone that has stepped away from their religion.
Ewan McGregor
The fact he can’t his ability is quite an interesting direction, as it highlights that while he is still keeping a close eye on Luke Skywalker, he’s limited in how he can help him. We know that the Alec Guinness turn as the character was still briefly able to wield the powers, which means we’ll explore how he revives his faith throughout the story and faces off against his old protégé once again. With the Inquisitors on his tail, it won’t be easy for the old Jedi Master to keep his promise. Perhaps the Force is just waiting for the right moment to return when he faces his biggest threat.
It is officially being reported by Variety that the hit HBO dark comedy Barry has been renewed for a fourth season. The Emmy-winning series is currently in the midst of airing its third season, airing on HBO and HBO Max. The series stars Bill Hader in the titular role as he also serves as the show’s co-creator with Alec Berg. The main ensemble of the cast is filled out by Henry Winkler, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Stephen Root, Sarah Burns, and D’Arcy Carden. Making a statement on the renewal, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Amy Gravitt spoke of the network’s praise for Barry.
Bill, Alec and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of ‘Barry,’ it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense. I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.
Amy Gravitt
The third season of Barry tells the story of Hader’s character in one of his darkest places following the end of Season 2. With that, the titular Barry is looking to finally move on from his life as a hitman and into one following his passions. But the process of moving on is a difficult one with this old life starting to bleed into the one he’s created for himself. The seeds are definitely planted for Barry’s life to reach another boiling point, with this one potentially having catastrophic ramifications.
The fourth season’s production is set to begin in Los Angeles next month in June and Bill Hader is set to return to the director’s chair for all eight episodes. The quick turnaround between these seasons is refreshing for fans who had to deal with an extended wait on Season 3 due to the pandemic.
