‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie Delayed Until 2023

Last September, Nintendo made headlines as it announced the voice cast for its animated film based on the highly popular Mario franchise. The internet went crazy as it was revealed that Chris Pratt had been cast as the titular plumber, along with Jack Black as Bowser, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The film has been in the works for quite some time, and it was finally set to release this year during the holiday season, but it looks like things may have changed.

Originally set for a release date of Dec. 21st, 2022, Super Mario Bros. has been delayed four months and is now set to hit theaters on April 7th, 2023. Unfortunately, for Japanese fans, the delay is a tad bit longer with a April 28th Japanese release. No reason was specified for the film’s delay, but its likely just due to not being able to have it done in time and after the last Mario movie, they probably want to make sure they have it just right.

Shigeru Miyamoto announced the delay himself through the Nintendo of America Twitter account, detailing that he spoke with the films producer Chris Meledandri and the two decided that the film would be delayed and that it would be ,”well worth the wait.” The film’s release date will now be occupied by Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which was originally set to release on Sept. 9th, 2022.

Along with Pratt, Black, and Rogen, the film will feature the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

  • RUMOR: Charlie Cox May Start Filming ‘Echo’ in May

RUMOR: Charlie Cox May Start Filming ‘Echo’ in May

Earlier this month, the costume designer for Echo accidentally revealed that Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox would reprise their roles in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, the fact that Kingpin and Daredevil will make their return in a larger role is an exciting prospect after they were slowly reintroduced into the mainline MCU. Production has only recently started and it did beg the question of when we might expect the actors to join the production. Luckily, a new rumor may have given us a hint.

As shared by Knight Edge Media, Daniel Richtman teased that Charlie Cox is scheduled to start production later in May. He couldn’t offer any details but it does look like he’ll definitely have a larger role in this series than he did in No Way Home, which was mostly just a cameo appearance. We don’t know if he already has a history with Echo and how they might set up some elements from the original Daredevil series, if at all. As productions can always change, there’s always a chance that something in their schedule may shift.

There are rumblings we might see him in another Disney+ series and that he also has his own on the way at some point in the future. It’ll be interesting to see if Echo may act as a set-up for the spinoff Disney+ series. It does seem like we will get a lot more from Charlie Cox, who was the flagship actor of the Netflix spinoffs and catapulted the character of Daredevil to new highs. Here’s hoping that he may become just as important to the MCU’s future.

  • ‘Venom 3’ Officially in Development at Sony

‘Venom 3’ Officially in Development at Sony

While the Venom films are far from a critical success, the films have proven to be a success for Sony. The first film was a surprising box office hit, and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, delivered what many fans wanted to see with the arrival of Carnage. It went on to gross $502 million globally in midst of a pandemic, so a third entry into the franchise seemed like a no-brainer and things already seem to be in motion on it.

Sony’s CinemaCon panel brought quite a bit of news regarding its work with the library of Marvel characters at its disposal and towards the tail end of the showcase, the studio confirmed that Venom 3 is indeed in the works.

We received no other details on the project, but we can assume that Tom Hardy will return as the lethal protector. No writer or director has been announced for the project, but Let There Be Carnage saw Andy Serkis take the reigns of the franchise from Ruben Fleischer, and it’s possible that Serkis could indeed return to direct.

The last time we saw Hardy as the character was at the tail-end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where we found his intoxicated and stranded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe trying to process the happenings of that world and its inhabitants like Iron Man and Hulk. Eddie Brock found himself pulled back to his own universe suddenly but left behind a droplet of the symbiote, which we assume will find its way to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the future.

No release date has been announced for the film

  • First Details on ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ as Third Entry Gets New Title

First Details on ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ as Third Entry Gets New Title

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is what many consider to be one of the best comic book films of all time, and it even took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019. The film’s sequel will see Miles’s journey continue in the two-part follow-up, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

The sequel was presented at Sony’s CinemaCon panel, with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller taking the stage to announce the third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. They also teased the scope and scale of the upcoming films.

We told him it would the same size as the last one but we couldn’t. It’s the largest crew of an animated movie ever. This movie has 1,000 people working on it. Don’t tell Tom (Rothman). The number of characters. This movie has 240 characters. Please don’t tell Tom. It takes place in six universes. That’s we couldn’t do the sizzle reel.

Lord and Miller also treated the audience to the first 15 minutes of the movie. The scene in question featured the return of Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen alongside Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 as they face off against the Vulture of Earth-65. The footage also features Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew.

  • Bad Bunny To Lead Sony’s Latest Marvel Film ‘El Muerto’

Bad Bunny To Lead Sony’s Latest Marvel Film ‘El Muerto’

Sony is going all-in on its universe of Marvel characters, continuing to develop films with Spider-Man’s rogue’s gallery. The studio just recently released Morbius starring Jared Leto, with Kraven The Hunter starring Aaron Taylor Johnson has recently entered production, and a Madame Web film that will star Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney is currently in the works. Now, it appears the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters is about to get a little bigger as a rather obscure character from Spider-Mans library is set to get his time in the spotlight.

During CinemaCon, Sony announced that popular musical artist Bad Bunny will star as the Marvel character, El Muerto, in a solo film. Bunny made a surprise appearance at the panel following the showcase for his upcoming feature film debut in Bullet Train

    Image

Bunny‘s character reportedly was quite popular in test screenings for Bullet Train and the musician himself was eager to find himself a superhero role. In fact, he dove through the world of Spider-Man comics and requested to play the character. The studio was reportedly thrilled with the pitch and is moving quickly on development, although no writer or director has been announced for the project.

Juan Carlos, aka El Muerto, was a luchador with superpowers that went toe to toe with Spider-Man, to the point where he almost unmasked the web-slinger. The two eventually teamed up to fight El Dorado, an oppressor who threatened Muerto.

The film’s release date was announced at the event. El Muerto is set to hit theaters on Jan. 12th, 2024.

  • Reina Hardesty No Longer Attached to ‘The Boys’ Spin-as Series’ Gets Reworked

Reina Hardesty No Longer Attached to ‘The Boys’ Spin-as Series’ Gets Reworked

The Boys spin-off has been in development for quite some time now and looks to be going through a bit of a rework behind the scenes. A while back, it was reported that the show added Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas as co-showrunners following Craig Rosenberg’s exit due to creative differences. The project most recently lost Aimee Carrero and Shane Paul McGhie due to scheduling conflicts. Not just that, but it was revealed that their characters are being reworked with Chance Perdomo being recast in McGhie‘s. role

It seems yet another actor attached to the project has met a similar fate as Reina Hardesty has now exited the spin-off after being attached to the project for over a year now. She departed the project following similar circumstances, with the new showrunners changing her character’s original role. There’s been no word on who will replace the actress, but if this situation follows a similar pattern to the previous recast we could know soon.

This college spin-off was originally going to follow a group of superpowered youth that are all competing at a Vought-run university for the best contracts. Each one trying to prove themselves to become the next Highlander while also navigating the usual hormonal experience that is college. While this project could still be ways away, the upcoming third season of The Boys is set to hit Amazon Prime with a three-episode premiere on June 8th, so everyone can get their fill of outlandish violence.

  • Illuminati Namedropped in New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Promo

Illuminati Namedropped in New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Promo

One more promo has dropped for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which mostly included familiar footage. Yet, the biggest surprise came in the form of the official name drop that the council Strange faces off against is indeed the Illuminati. Marvel Studios has always taken some liberties with how they showcase the secret society of heroes that try to make decisions on the future of their world. In the comics, they were formed after the Kree-Skrull War but will probably get a new origin in the film.

We don’t know exactly how this team formed as part of the multiverse and what it might mean for the future of the MCU. The trailers seemingly tease that the team of multiversal heroes will face off against the Scarlet Witch. Who knows if the team will even remain afterward, or if we might expect a new one to form within the Sacred Timeline. Perhaps the multiverse will continue to grow, and we get a future project to see the aftermath of these events.

There have been many teases of what Doctor Strange’s adventure through a multiverse of madness might entail, but it feels like they are still hiding quite a bit. Who knows how much screentime the Illuminati actually gets, as it could be nothing more than a brief pitstop for Strange in his travels through the multiverse. No matter what, it’s great to finally have the confirmation that they are indeed who we expected them to be and we can’t wait to see the first incarnation of them in live-action next week.

  • Saudi Arabia Denies Ban of ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel But Still Wants LGBTQ Sequence Cut

Saudi Arabia Denies Ban of ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel But Still Wants LGBTQ Sequence Cut

With the inclusion of America Chavez, there was some expectation that her LGBTQ background could lead to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may end up getting banned in various countries. The first announcement came from Saudi Arabia and was then followed by Egypt making an announcement. Now, a new article from The Guardian shared a statement from Saudi Arabia on the situation in which they deny any reports that the film has been banned in the country.

Disney seemingly denies any comment on the matter, but it seems that the cut scene they are inquiring about involves America Chavez mentioning her mothers. Nawaf Alsabhan, Saudi Arabia’s general supervisor of cinema classification, shared a statement on the matter. It was highlighted that what they are trying to cut is “barely 12 seconds” which is part of the film’s release.

It’s just her talking about her moms, because she has two moms. And being in the Middle East, it’s very tough to pass something like this. We sent it to the distributor, and the distributor sent it to Disney, and Disney has told us they are not willing. It will never be banned. There’s no reason to ban the film. It’s a simple edit … So far they have refused. But we haven’t closed the door. We’re still trying.

    Nawaf Alsabhan

It seems the current statement is more that the film has been “withdrawn” rather than banned. There was a similar situation with this kind of inquiry regarding the Eternals, which heavily involved a gay couple as part of the film’s main cast. While there are strong cultural differences, describing the inclusion of LGBTQ representation as “a simple edit” is a curious showcase of how different the topic is handled across the world. For now, it seems unlikely that Disney or Marvel Studios will budge on the matter.

  • First Look at Terry Crews as a Nova Corp Member in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Cosmic Rewind Ride

First Look at Terry Crews as a Nova Corp Member in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Cosmic Rewind Ride

It looks like the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind ride has added a familiar face to its cast, as Disney Parks’ official Twitter account just shared a first look at Terry Crews, who is joining the Nova Corps. It seems like he is playing Centurion Tal Marik, the commander of the Starchater and an advisor of Nova Primes, who was played by Glenn Close in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. His inclusion could potentially set up a cameo in either the upcoming Vol. 3 entry or even the Nova film that is in development. So, who knows if this small cameo might grow into something larger for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor as part of the MCU.

It’s great to see some talented actors involved in this short film that are part of Disney World’s various rides. Marvel Studios has been quite the brand to attract talent and it’ll be interesting to see how much he’s in the ride for those able to attend. It would also be a fun addition if they include some of the cast in future projects, especially as the storylines told through these rides aren’t considered canon.

We even got some concept art for the Celestial Eson, which is getting quite the redesign for this ride that is more in line with what we saw in Eternals. Who knows what other elements might find their way into the films moving forward if they are adding this much work into a ride. Perhaps Cosmic Rewind gets a special release on Disney+ for those that don’t get a chance to visit the ride.

  • Western Conference Playoffs Notebook-The Young Ones Dueling

Western Conference Playoffs Notebook-The Young Ones Dueling

The most exciting series of the NBA Playoffs so far is the Memphis Grizzlies versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. Full of striking athleticism and tension on the court, we have a classic brewing.

The Grizzlies and Wolves are headed back to Memphis for Game 5 after a 119-118 Wolves win to tie the series. Karl Towns scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a huge effort to even things up. It’s a series full of incredible swings in momentum. In Game 3, the Wolves built separate 20 point leads only to lose them and the game. The Grizzlies used a 21-0 run spanning both third and fourth quarters to take control. The Wolves and their fans were shell shocked. They easily could’ve collapsed, if not for Towns and Anthony Edwards.

It was the Wolves physicality in earning 40 free throw attempts that helped them tip the scales in Game 4. Both of these squads are young and sometimes can get out of control, which leads to mistakes. Those mistakes are turnovers and fouls, and the Grizzlies could not stop fouling. We can question the playoff officiating as Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins did here vorciferously.

Granted, there are inconsistencies in the officiating but the Grizzlies have to be more under control. An important player like Jaren Jackson Jr is constantly in foul trouble(6 fouls in 23 minutes in Game 4) and it’s putting the Grizzlies in poor position to defend Karl Towns. With that foul trouble, Towns is seeing smaller defenders and getting easier opportunities to drive to the rim like here. Even in a crowd, Towns is too big and too strong to be deterred.

Memphis really needs Ja Morant to play better. Whether it’s his sore knee or just poor play, we haven’t seen the dynamism he usually brings. Minnesota is attacking him relentlessly on defense. Patrick Beverley has been going by Ja all series for buckets or sucking in the defense for a better look. Bottom line, Morant has to be better on both ends of the floor.

As the series reaches a critical juncture, Minnesota has fought their way to having a shot to win. Memphis Guard Desmond Bane has scored 60 points in the last two, and he’s going to need some more assistance as they go. That will have to come from Ja scoring the ball. Can he provide that? It’ll be interesting to see. If Minnesota can continue to be the more physical team we can see an upset. Game 5 looms very large as we head back to Memphis.
