  • Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

The wait for Rocksteady’s next game will take a bit longer, as Bloomberg has revealed that Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League has been pushed back until 2023. There is still no set release date, as it was initially announced to release in 2022 alongside the other DC-based game, Gotham Knights. It’s unsure if they decided to push it back due to both games having close ties to Batman, or if it’s a production decision.

The game was originally announced back in 2020 during their DC FanDome event. It’ll focus on a smaller team that comprises the titular Suicide Squad, as you can play either Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot, or the ever-present Harley Quinn. Unlike Gotham Knights, this game seemingly focuses more on gunplay and mechanics similar to Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive.

It’s a shame the wait is going to be longer once again, as we still know very little about the game. 2021’s DC FanDome offered our first real look at gameplay, but it was only in short snippets. Rocksteady continues to focus primarily on the story, but it supposedly will act as a Games-as-a-Service model once it releases. Here’s hoping we still get some updates throughout the year as we continue to wait for its release.

  • Oscar Isaac Confirms ‘Moon Knight’ as a Limited Series

Oscar Isaac Confirms ‘Moon Knight’ as a Limited Series

As Marvel Studios isn’t following the usual TV format, you never know which of their new series may end up getting a sequel season or not. So far, the only confirmed series to get a second season are Loki and What If…? but everything else is pure speculation. It looks like their latest Disney+ series, Moon Knight, might just be a one-and-done, as during Variety’s Actor on Actor

I’d never heard of “Moon Knight” before, and I collected comics when I was younger. I’d heard of “Morbius,” but I’d never heard of “Moon Knight.” I don’t know how the process was for you because it’s a feature film, we’re a limited series. There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend.

    Oscar Isaac

It makes sense that they might approach Moon Knight as a limited series, especially with how the initial trailer teases it like an analysis of Marc Spector’s psyche. So, a potential Season 2 might fall too much into a typical action storyline that the actor might not be interested in tackling. Of course, we don’t know if his fractured mind would truly come back together by the end of the story.

Marvel Studios also has the freedom to potentially renew it at a later point, as they don’t have to make a direct second season shortly after but explore the character once they figure out a new take on the character. It’s also uncertain how active Oscar Isaac wants to be in an interconnected franchise, but it seems likely he’ll re-appear after the mini-series premieres on Disney+ on March 30th.

  • ‘Tales From The Walking Dead’ Anthology Adds Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, and More

‘Tales From The Walking Dead’ Anthology Adds Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, and More

Nothing truly ends. The Walking Dead franchise proved that fact with its eleven-season run. In addition, the flagship series spawns two spin-off series. Announced a while back, Tales From The Walking Dead will join Fear The Walking Dead and Walking Dead: World Beyond as the third spin-off series to spawn from the main series. Set to premiere sometime this summer on AMC, and we finally got a cast announcement for the anthology series.

Deadline has reported that Terry Crews, Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Parker Posey, and Jillian Bell have all joined the upcoming series. This casting is said to be only the first wave of talent set to expand the world of the Walking Dead. Writer Scott M. Gimple shared his excitement about the new cast.

Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker, and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the Walking Dead Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt, and horrifying new realms and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors. More announcements, more wonderful folks to come

    Scott Gimple

The initial announcement of the series said that the series would feature new and established characters from within this universe. Currently, no actors previously seen on any of the three other shows have been announced for the anthology series. This would open up the possibility of many long-dead characters from the series returning for stories set before their debut in any of the other shows.

  • Don’t Expect Halle Berry in ‘John Wick 4’ But Maybe a Spinoff

Don’t Expect Halle Berry in ‘John Wick 4’ But Maybe a Spinoff

The cast of Keanu Reeves‘ next big movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, is set to be quite the ensemble. Unfortunately, it seems that Hollywood icon Halle Berry will not be among the returning stars, as while promoting Moonfall, she confirms that she won’t make an appearance in the highly-anticipated action sequel. Berry previously portrayed Sofia Al-Azwar in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, an old ally of the title character, who assists him after his fall from grace with the High Table. The veteran dog-loving killer, who is also the manager of Casablanca’s Continental Hotel, was a highlight in a film packed with standout moments.

While fans are sure to be disappointed with her absence from the next franchise installment, they shouldn’t count on never seeing Berry in the role again. When asked about her involvement with the future of the Wick series, the former Catwoman star had some intriguing things to say:

Sofia’s not in the next John Wick movie. There could possibly be a Sofia…her own movie. So she might not be in John Wick, but she might be doing her own thingy-thingy.

    Halle Berry

Berry went on to compare the potential spin-off to “ointment on a little sore“, referencing a canceled James Bond spin-off that was to feature Jinx, her one-time Bond Girl, in the lead role. If a Sofia-centric film were to happen, it would not be the first offshoot of the Wick movies we see. A female-led action film set in the same universe, tentatively titled Ballerina, has been in production since 2017, with Ana de Armas playing the main character. Mel Gibson is also signed on to play the lead in a canon television series called The Continental, which will dive deeper into the roots of the titular hotel.

  • ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer First Look at J.K. Simmons as a Younger Commissioner Gordon

‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer First Look at J.K. Simmons as a Younger Commissioner Gordon

Last year it was announced that J.K. Simmons would be reprising his role of Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Batgirl solo film, starring Leslie Grace. The actor first appeared as Gordon in 2017’s Justice League, and of course in the 2020 re-release of director Zack Snyder’s original cut. In both films, he had a rather small role, but that seems to be changing in his next entry. Some new photos from the set in Glasglow have given us our first look at Simmons return as the famous commissioner.

He may look a bit different than when we first saw him in Justice League, as he ditched the grey look for his comic-accurate red hair. Gordon looks to be with his wife and possibly a young Barbara Gordon, indicating that this is most likely a flashback scene, which might explain the red hair. The actress who might be playing her mother has not been officially announced so far.

A while back on the HappySadConfused podcast, Simmons expressed that he was ” “flabbergasted” at the request from Warner Brothers to reprise his role as Gordon, believing his days as Commissioner were shortlived.

“I’m excited to be the once and future Jim Gordon, I had a long discussion with the guys about how we want to portray him. It’s a really interesting take on introducing Batgirl and fleshing Jim Gordon out.”

    J.K. Simmons

Batgirl currently has no release date but is currently set to release this year exclusively on HBO Max.

  • Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms Return for ‘Loki’ Season 2

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms Return for ‘Loki’ Season 2

Production on the second season of Marvel Studios’ Loki series is reported to begin this summer at Pinewood Studios, and it appears one of the first seasons’ biggest stars will be there when it happens. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the British actress who played TVA judge and series antagonist Ravonna Renslayer, has confirmed that she will indeed be returning for the show’s next batch of episodes. During an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Mbatha-Raw was asked about her involvement with the future of the Disney+ exclusive. Her response, accompanied by a huge smile, was short and straightforward:

    I know there is a season two… I know that I’m in it…and that’s about all I can say!

    Gugu Mbatha-Raw

The last time we saw her character, Renslayer was departing the collapsing TVA to search for her own free will. It’s unknown what became of her after this, but the pages of Marvel comic books may give fans an idea of where her character arc is headed. Ravonna famously becomes the love of Jonathan Majors‘ Kang the Conqueror, with their relationship being a major plot point in his villainous storyline. It remains to be seen if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take Mbatha-Raw‘s portrayal down this path, but her devout belief in He Who Remains seemed to be a good hint at it’s possibility.

Loki was the first Marvel-Disney+ series to get an officially announced second season renewal. There is no set release date for the next installments of the show, but with production supposedly starting soon, fans shouldn’t have to wait much longer for more information.

  • REVIEW: ‘How I Met Your Father’ Episode 4 – “Dirrty Thirty”

REVIEW: ‘How I Met Your Father’ Episode 4 – “Dirrty Thirty”

Last week, we saw How I Met Your Father start to feel like a true successor to How I Met Your Mother. Between perfect relationship building, good comedic moments, and a whole lot of charm, it seemed as though the show was starting to hit a stride. Can that continue through the entirety of season one? Or did episode four dig a ditch?

Episode 4 started off with Sophie finally beginning to take a partner seriously, so much so that the majority of the episode is spent trying to impress the man. This isn’t a novel concept, as you may recall, this type of thing is right out of the Mosby playbook. In How I Met Your Mother, a young Ted spends an entire episode planning multiple parties over a weekend to try and impress a newly found crush, Robin. Luckily, this similarity stops there. Once again, How I Met Your Father does an excellent job of mirroring parts of How I Met Your Mother without feeling like a cheap copycat, rehashing old ideas. Instead, the show decides to do things a little differently. Sophie was already having a party, her birthday party, in fact. Instead of randomly trying to make her suitor find her more spontaneous, Sophie is aiming to seem more mature to match the personality of her date. She spends time disguising her apartment, looking to match both the “trashy rager,” as she recalls, and the more mature tone she wants in order to impress the man.

The above seems like a great way to follow the tone of the original, but other parts of the episode fall flat. There are moments sure to take viewers out of the episode, as it loses its engaging tone with the addition of a random scene, forcing it to feel more like a generic sitcom than the charming show its predecessor was. There were parts of episodes one and two that had a similar feeling, but it seemed like most of the early sitcom tropes were starting to feel fixed. Yet, despite its flaws, the latest episode still feels stronger than the earlier episodes. It’s just a shame the show seems unclear of the tone it wants to take on, especially as the series seemed to finally be hitting its stride.

Luckily, while the weird generic sitcom vibe was definitely there, the laugh track issues still seem to be gone. As initially expected, it appears the premiere episode may have been trying a little too hard to land its humor. Thankfully, though, the latter two episodes definitely used the laugh track more appropriately.

Luckily, the relationship-building and supporting cast still feel great. The episode follows Valentina and Charlie as they continue to try and work out their relationship, as well as Jesse and Ellen as they try and form their sibling bond. Unfortunately, Sid seems to have been put on the sideline for this episode; while it makes sense, given his storyline, it’s an unfortunate turn of events.

Valentina and Charlie remain an almost inverse of Marshall and Lily, a couple trying to make it, but instead of being the perfect couple in a more traditional sense, their way of life is a little more “modern,” if you will. Their chemistry is starting to show through the one-tone character that is Charlie. He seems to be starting to settle into his new lifestyle a little more, previously being a rich and rather condescending character that was hard to like. Valentina and Charlie seem to be starting to round each other out, which seems like it could do wonders for their characters.

While Episode 4 feels like a step back from Episode 3, it appears to be a small step back. The show retains its charm while continually making the characters and their relationships very easy to love. Hopefully, the next 6 episodes will manage to capture the charm and continue to improve, potentially leading to a phenomenal ending that will want us begging for more like How I Met Your Mother did in its first season. Considering there are three possible suitors set up for immediate relationships with Sophie, and any of them can come up at any moment, it seems likely the end of season 1 is aiming to get there. It’s obviously too early to tell for sure, but who knows, one might happen before we say goodbye to Sophie and her gang for the season.

  • REVIEW: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Chapter 6 – From the Desert Comes a Stranger

REVIEW: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Chapter 6 – From the Desert Comes a Stranger

So, the third season of The Mandalorian is going strong. It’s just strange they decided to rename it The Book of Boba Fett and ignore the titular character after a few episodes to fully embrace a follow-up story for Din Djarin. After last week’s episode, Temuera Morrison once again takes a backseat while the series further expands upon the greater mythos that was initially set up with Grogu’s journey to becoming a Jedi. It’s a shame that such a great episode is bogged down by the fact that it feels like you’re watching the wrong show.

I will talk about spoilers in the review, so only continue at your own risk if you haven’t seen the episode yet.

I love what Lucasfilms is doing with the Disney+ series, but I fear what this series’ pacing might mean for other spin-offs from the initial series that kicked off Disney+’s success. Pedro Pascal‘s Din remains one of the most compelling characters, but he also gets the most emotional arc throughout the entire franchise currently. Boba Fett at least shows up this time around, but barely even has a speaking line that makes you wonder if he’s even the protagonist of this story.

Still, what we have is a great episode that is riddled with great cameos that are certain to make many long-time fans gush. The episode starts with Timothy Olyphant‘s return as Cobb Vanth – a personal favorite that I hope gets more focus in the future – and a small insight into what the Pykes trade is going on. You’d think for a large smuggling ring they’d do more than exchange money in the middle of nowhere like that, but it does lead to a powerful moment showing who he’ll side on once the main conflict happens.

Yet, most of the episode is focused on Grogu, who makes his adorable return with some insight into his teachings by Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker. They certainly learned from the previous appearance and the effect looks quite a bit better, even if still off at times. the performance is also quite subdued but works well for the Jedi way that he is trying to teach to his new padawan. It’s great to see the teachings, especially how Grogu echoes moves we’ve seen from Yoda in the prequels. That even gets paid off at the end of the episode.

Din not being able to let go of his little fellow, and traveling all the way to see him was great – even if I don’t quite get how he knew to find them. R2D2 returns for a brief appearance, which seemed like a given with Luke there. However, I never expected Rosario Dawson‘s Ahsoka to make an appearance. It made sense in how she built upon the words she mentioned in her last appearance, and her interactions with Luke were heartwarming for Star Wars: Clone Wars fans.

I do believe that the biggest moment comes at a later date for Clone Wars fans when bounty hunter Cad Cane arrived. Probably the best use of Tatooine’s landscape to build up his arrival and everything just worked incredibly well. Didn’t think the character would translate so damn well to live-action. The Western showdown matched his design so well, and he probably got the most intimidating introduction out of any character in this show yet. It’ll be a difficult one to top moving forward.

We only have one more episode to go, and I am having a hard time imagining all these pieces falling together as they should. Boba is a no-show in his series for the last two episodes. We spent most of the first five revisiting the past and any main threat vanished before they even had a chance to become relevant. The Pykes offer some intrigue but not enough to make the upcoming events feel relevant. Outside of Morrison‘s performance and giving Boba Fett an actual character, it feels like this series is just The Mandalorian 2.5 rather than its own fully fleshed-out show. Even when the show catches back up with Fett’s empire, the big moment towards the end is overshadowed by everything else.

I loved the episode, don’t get time wrong, but I wanted to spend time with Fett, as he raises the Rancor, takes down the underbelly, and sees the build-up to the final confrontation. They tease a big war, but we still don’t know why the Pykes are obsessed with the obvious Dune parallel. The problem lies that its main character was fleshed out in the past while nothing in the present is fully explored outside of fun cameos and Djarin’s story taking over. Perhaps they should’ve split it up into two series and just keep The Book of Boba Fett as a brief 5-episode mini-series.

  • ‘The Book of Boba Fett’: The Mysterious Gunslinger Explained

‘The Book of Boba Fett’: The Mysterious Gunslinger Explained

Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, “From the Desert Comes a Stranger”, was another strong entry into the overall mythology being created through the live-action Disney Plus streaming series. Serving as another episode of The Mandalorian-set interlude ahead next week’s finale, the episode saw the return of several characters introduced in Season 2 of The Mandalorian and left a lot of threads untied as it concluded. And while we could talk about the returns of Grogu, Luke and Ahsoka all day, it was the return of Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth that led to the chilling introduction of a mysterious gunslinger that has social media buzzing.

Shortly after Din Djarin wrapped up his discussion with Vanth, the stranger coming from the desert that the title warned fans of appeared on the sandy streets of Mos Pelgo, now called Freetown. After issuing a stern warning to Vanth to stay out of the Pyke’s business, the stranger enters into a shootout with Vanth and his dumb deputy, killing said dumb deputy and wounding Vanth before heading back out into the desert without so much as revealing his name. The stranger made a big impression in a short time but, as it turns out, he’s not much of a stranger at all. While Chapter 6 marked his debut in a live-action project, the stranger has been a part of the Star Wars universe for more than a decade! For those unfamiliar with him and his exploits, read on.

First introduced in Season 1 of the canonical animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Cad Bane is, much like Boba Fett himself, a dangerous and notorious bounty hunter. Created by The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett creator Dave Filoni, Bane’s inclusion in the live-action series has been rumored for some time and continues a trend wherein Filoni continues to extend the stories of many fan-favorite characters introduced in The Clone Wars by bringing them to live-action. In addition to that, it also makes a whole lot of sense given Bane’s long history with Fett.

Bane’s ties to Fett began when Fett’s father, Jango, mentored Bane as a bounty hunter. Following the death of Jango, Bane eventually took on Boba and mentored him, completing the circle as it were. Their exploits are detailed over several seasons of The Clone Wars, but Fett’s not the only bounty hunter on Tatooine that has a history with Bane. The events of another canonical animated series, The Bad Batch, saw Bane square off with Fennec Shand with potentially force-sensitive clone Omega at the center of their dispute.

How Bane came to be working for the Pykes is a story for another day, but his entrance into The Book of Boba Fett is full of promise. As seen in Chapter 6, the Duros bounty hunter is nobody to be trifled with, but he’s now put himself directly in the sights of Boba and Shand, creating some serious intrigue heading into next week’s final episode.

  • ‘Halo’ Has a New Showrunner In Case of a Season 2 Renewal by Paramount+

‘Halo’ Has a New Showrunner In Case of a Season 2 Renewal by Paramount+

Halo‘s release hasn’t been an easy one. After being in development hell for eight years, it is finally releasing on Paramount+ this March. It originally was produced as a Showtime series, but the streaming service from ViacomCBS became its new home. Currently, there has not been a renewal for the second season, but it seems that they may have a new showrunner who is ready to take over, the third one so far.

Executive producer Justin Falvey shared that David Wiener, known for his work on Fear the Walking Dead and Brave New World, would take over from Steven Kane, who was responsible for the production of the first season. Yet, he wasn’t the only one as Kane was responsible for the production in Budapest, while Killen worked on it in the United States. As of now, both have left the project, but Kane is open to still staying on as a consultant.

Kane shared during the Television that he worked on the Budapest production for two years, and being away from his family for so long as the reason he stepped down from the project. The series has had a troubled production for so long, as it also went through two directors with Rupert Wyatt forced to drop the project due to scheduling conflicts. So, only Otto Bathurst remained on to finish it. We’ll probably have to wait until the viewership numbers are in for Paramount before they decide to continue with the project.
