REPORT: First Story Details Hint at Namor’s Motivation in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever just recently entered production. They also seemed to have added Loki‘s cinematographer, Autumn Durald. That wasn’t all, as DisInsider just shared some information from Production Weekly that offers even more details on the film’s plot. It seems that the reported logline confirms Namor’s live-action debut, which was hinted at by Illumiinerdi some time ago. Not just that, it even offers some details into the film’s story and what role Namor might have once it premieres next year.

Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear. Wakanda feared that their technology would be abused. Atlantis feared that surface dwellers would come and desecrate the mythical city just as they did so many years ago. And yet their fears escalate even further when these two once-hidden nations clash with each other. Wakanda and Atlantis have a shockingly intertwined history. Wakanda is the only county in the world with access to vibranium. However, rumors of its power spread throughout the world, and Namor’s human father was sent searching for this rare material in Antarctica…

It seems he’ll have an antagonistic role, but what stands out is the hint at Vibranium’s history getting expanded. There is a reference to Namor’s father exploring Antarctica for the material, which may also be why these two nations go to war. It may have a vital role in Atlantean society as it is in Wakanda. Namor’s backstory might also tie closely to these events. It’s also interesting to note that they are revealing his people are from Atlantis, which leads to a direct comparison to DC’s Aquaman franchise. It could be a placeholder for now, but it is still odd it’s in there. One can assume Marvel and Disney want to brand this new city, and avoiding a direct comparison is the best approach.

The report also includes the cast, which gives Letitia Wright the top billing. It adds more credence to the possibility of her continuing the title of Black Panther from T’Challa. Lupita Nyong’oWinston DukeMartin FreemanDaniel KaluuyaFlorence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett are also currently listed. So far, none of these actors have been confirmed to return. It’ll be interesting to see if we get more information on the casting and story as the film already started production. For now, it’s our first glimpse into what may be heading our way, and hopefully, we’ll get more details soon.

  • Leaked ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Funko Listing Teases Three Suits and August Release

Leaked ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Funko Listing Teases Three Suits and August Release

It’s been a busy day for toy leaks, as we got our first look at the What If Funko Pops and the first Spider-Man: No Way Home LEGO sets found their way online. It looks like we might have gotten more information, as Reddit user BubblesBorn shared a Funko listing. What stands out is that the listing hints at an August release, which could potentially hint at a trailer release in the current month. They would commonly make Funkos available after the designs got revealed. It also includes three different suits, which include the upgraded, integrated, and gold suit. So, the recently leaked suit that combined Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s design with the Iron Spider suit from Avengers: Infinity Wars could be the upgraded version.

Some news I found on the No Way Home Funko pops!

There is also the listing of Doctor Strange, MJ, and Ned. It’s interesting how much focus Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Strange is getting in the toy leaks, which hints at him getting the focus in the upcoming trailer. Of course, the main focus will be his suits. It does seem strange to include three unique suit designs so early on. There is a chance that the “Gold Suit” isn’t actually part of the film but Funko’s usually complete golden version of a character.

The previously mentioned suit on the LEGO packaging might be the upgraded one, but the “integrated” design is a rather curious naming. The name is used by the military for Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology, or JSLIST, which serves to protect soldiers from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards.  So, he might face a villain specialized in that kind of weaponry. whatever he might face, the August release might hint at the No Way Home trailer is just around the corner and it’s going to be an exciting next few weeks.

  • FX’s ‘Alien’ Series Won’t See the Return of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley

FX’s ‘Alien’ Series Won’t See the Return of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley

It looks like we finally get an update on that mysterious Alien project in development for FX and Hulu. Last year in December, it was revealed that Legion‘s Noah Hawley is tackling the project that would return to the nightmarish galaxy created by Ridley Scott in 1979. Not much was known about the project or how it would approach its story, especially as the franchise was tightly connected to the family lineage of Sigourney Weaver‘s Ellen Ripley. Even the Alien: Isolation game continued the story from the perspective of a Ripley family member continuing the tradition. Well, it seems that we won’t expect Weaver‘s return as Hawley confirmed it will not be a Ripley story.

She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it. It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of “What happens if you can’t contain it?” are more immediate.

The last quote is quite interesting, as most stories try to keep the Xenomorph threat contained. Exploring their spread throughout the galaxy or even a planet would create a very new experience for long-time fans of the franchise. He also went on to say what the main focus of this story will be.

On some level, it’s also a story about inequality. In mine, you’re also going to see the people who are sending [the people who have to do the dirty work]. So you will see what happens when the inequality we’re struggling with now isn’t resolved. If we as a society can’t figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what’s going to happen to us?

It’s a curious direction as the world-building in the Alien franchise mostly surrounded the creature rather than the humans. Yes, we know about the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and got glimpses of Earth, but it never was the focus. Utilizing the long-story format will break those restrictions and offer a truly unique experience in the claustrophobic franchise. Still, it wouldn’t be the same with some dangerous corridors.

  • Leak Offers First Look at Marvel Studios’ ‘What If’ Funko Pops

Leak Offers First Look at Marvel Studios’ ‘What If’ Funko Pops

Marvel Studios is set to release one of their first animated projects in the form of What if?, a series that will explore variants who broke out of the Sacred Timeline. We’re still eagerly awaiting a release date for the project as it was slated to release sometime this summer, which we should soon get when Loki ends. Recently, we’ve been learning a lot about the episodes and just who and what will be featured in each and this new promo leak from Funko gives us a brand new look at the characters before their debut in the series, so make some room on that shelf for your inevitable purchases.

The upcoming wave of pop figures features five figures, not listing any potential retailer exclusives. The first figures look to be Captain Carter, joined by the Hydra Stomper, piloted by Steve Rogers. We also get a look at T’Challa as Star-lord alongside what could be our best looks yet at Gamora, Daughter of Thanos, and Doctor Strange Supreme, the evil sorcerer.

The most interesting addition here is Gamora’s new title, as she seems to have inherited the same weight of the name Thanos once held as a scourge on the galaxy. This one seems to have lived up to her father’s legacy and never joined the guardians of the galaxy. The figures currently have no set release date but look to be hitting stores now, an indication that the series could be coming soon. Fans will have to wait for official word from Marvel as to when they can expect the series though.

  • RUMOR: Renee Montoya Set to Debut in ‘Batwoman’ Season 3

RUMOR: Renee Montoya Set to Debut in ‘Batwoman’ Season 3

Batwoman has had an interesting two season run. Last year it was announced that the star of the show, Ruby Rose, would be departing the series after only one season, with no real answer given. Many attributed this exit to the injuries Rose had on set or possibly just not merging well with working on a TV series after having a career that was almost exclusively in film. The series quickly found its new lead in Javicia Leslie, who went on to play a brand new character named Ryan Wilder. Following the show’s second season premiere, it was quickly renewed for a third season with Leslie returning for another go of it.

The third season is set to begin production sometime this month and, according to a new rumor from the Illuminerdi, it seems set to introduce another popular friend of the Batfamily: Renee Montoya.

The studio s looking to cast an LGBTQ+ Latinx or Afro-Latinx actress in their Mid-30’s. The character is described as a former GCPD officer who left the force due to how the department was treating the city’s marginalized citizens. Montoya had found herself in charge of the “Freaks Division” within the Mayor’s office. Renee is described to be on a personal and enigmatic mission to clean up the streets of Gotham by any means necessary. In the comics, Montoya is most known for becoming the second Question, a previous mantle held by Vic Sage.

It definitely sounds like the series is setting Montoya down the road of becoming a vigilante and expanding its roster of Batfamily members after Luke Fox picked up the mantle of Batwing in the second season’s finale. Batwoman season 3 is set to premiere on October 13th, 2021 only on the CW.

  • First Look At ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Costume Revealed By Lego Promo Art

First Look At ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Costume Revealed By Lego Promo Art

The next film in the Spider-Man franchise is undoubtedly the most anticipated MCU film since Endgame with so much mystery shrouding the film and rumors flying high about just what exactly the movie is about. For a while now it’s been speculated that the film would feature a multiversal outbreak that would cause villains of franchise-past and their Spider-Men to all come together in one big film that could change the MCU forever. With no clue as to when the marketing may start for the film, it seems Lego’s gotten a bit of a jumpstart, giving us a bit of a clearer look at the film.

In a recent post to their online store by Lego, they’ve revealed multiple sets in for the upcoming release of No Way Home, with a few being inspired by films past. The most interesting detail is the box art, offering our first look at a brand suit for Peter in the upcoming film. On the box, we see what looks to be the red and black suit from Spider-Man Far From Home now combined with the Iron Spider Suit seen in Avengers: Endgame. Some upgrades must be in order if Spider-Man is to face off against the likes of Doc Ock and Electro.

The first set is one “Inspired by Spider-Man: Homecoming” and features Spider-Man facing off against the Vulture in an Anti-Ock-inspired suit from the Spider-Man PS4 Game, along with a giant yellow drone.  The second set looks to actually be from Spider-Man: No Way Home, featuring Spidey and MJ in the Sanctum Sanctorum workshop alongside Wong and Dr. Strange as they face off against a monster bug. While the promo art is very real, it’s always worth noting that Lego sets are very unreliable so we shouldn’t necessarily expect action scenes in the film to play out the way they do in these toy sets.

  • New ‘Sandman’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Death

New ‘Sandman’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Death

All the way back in July of 2019, Netflix announced that it had begun development on an adaption of the critically acclaimed graphic novel series, Sandman. The series was written by popular fantasy author Neil Gaiman, known for projects such as American Gods and Good Omens. The series received an eleven-episode greenlight with Allan Heinberg set to write the project and David S. Goyer and Gaiman serving as executive producers on the series. The project will star actor Tom Sturridge as the titular character of Sandman, also known as Dream, alongside a sprawling cast including a few of his siblings, The Endless. One member in particular, who’s quite the fan-favorite, Death. Death is one of Dream’s sisters who represents the aspect of Death.

Death is set to be played by actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste, previously seen in Cruella, Killing Eve, The Good Place, and Barry. Recent photos from the set of Sandman have revealed our first look at the character. The actress is seen sporting the character’s classic black outfit and the iconic ankh necklace she has always worn.

We got our first look at the series during Netflixs’ Geeked Week in which we saw the vast and beautiful sets built for the series and just have much care was put into every detail while bringing the series to life. Sandman currently has no set release date but will be releasing exclusively on Netflix. The series is set to adapt the first two graphic novels in the series, covering Preludes and Nocturnes as well as The Dolls House.

  • ‘FAST & FURIOUS’ Spin-Off In Development for Charlize Theron’s Cipher

‘FAST & FURIOUS’ Spin-Off In Development for Charlize Theron’s Cipher

It would seem Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham aren’t the only Fast & Furious stars worthy of a spin-off. In a new article from Variety, franchise lead Vin Diesel confirms that he currently has writers working on a script for a new movie starring Charlize Theron as her F&F character Cipher. If it comes to fruition, the film would be an interesting move for the franchise. Theron undoubtedly has star power, and her character is one of the franchise’s more intriguing players, but she has been portrayed almost exclusively as a villain thus far. Introduced as the main antagonist of The Fate of the Furious, the character is a cyber terrorist who used Dominic Toretto’s own child against him. She makes another appearance in the recently released F9: The Fast Saga, once again in a menacing role.

It should be noted that Jason Statham’s character, Deckard Shaw, was also introduced as a villain in the franchise before transitioning to an anti-hero role for the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. It wouldn’t be a huge stretch for Theron’s character to make the same development in her own movie, especially if she’s given a bit of tragic backstory. However, it could also be a neat idea to center a film around an entirely evil character. After all, Disney’s Cruella just blew away box office expectations pulling a similar stunt. Either way, the news of this project probably means that we’ll keep seeing more from this universe even after the final Fast films release. Personally, I don’t mind that one bit. Who doesn’t love exploding cars every now and then?

  • Charlize Theron Confirms ‘THE OLD GUARD’ Sequel in Development

Charlize Theron Confirms ‘THE OLD GUARD’ Sequel in Development

It looks like Netflix’s surprise hit film, The Old Guard, won’t be a one-and-done. Actress Charlize Theron, who starred as an immortal warrior in the first film, has confirmed that a second film is happening at the popular streaming service. She explained to Variety that the script for the sequel was already completed, with filming set to begin in the first quarter of next year. While Theron did not reveal the names of those involved in the production, she did confirm that actors Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli will return as the couple Joe and Nicky. Not much is known about the sequel’s plot, but the graphic novel the first film was based on does have a sequel, so it’s possible they just adapt the story that’s already been laid out for them.

The Old Guard dropped on Netflix in 2020, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka. As previously mentioned, the film was adapted from the pages of a graphic novel also written by Rucka. The story focused on a U.S. Marine, played by breakout Kiki Layne, who discovers she’s become one of a group of centuries-old warriors on Earth. While Theron never mentioned Layne specifically, it seems likely she’d return for the second installment. While this is the first official news we’ve heard of a sequel, Greg Rucka did express his hopes for one shortly after the first film’s release. It’s possible the script has been in development since around that time, considering it’s already been finished.

  • REPORT: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Adds ‘Loki’s Cinematographer Autumn Durald

REPORT: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Adds ‘Loki’s Cinematographer Autumn Durald

Just yesterday, Variety confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has entered production in Atlanta. marvel Studios president confirmed it in an interview with the publisher, where he also promised that they will make Chadwick Boseman proud, as they continue his legacy after his tragic passing. Plot details are still kept tightly under wraps. So far, we only heard from Illuminerdi that the film will introduce the world to the prince of Atlantis, Namor played by Tenoch Huerta. It looks like Discussing Film may have gotten their hands on an interesting detail, as they reveal that cinematographer Autumn Durald has joined the project.

She’ll replace Ryan Coogler‘s collaborator Rachel Morrison, who worked on the first film. Durald has recently worked on the Loki Disney+ series and was the cinematographer on all six episodes. She has also worked with Gia Coppola on her debut film, Palo Alto and Mainstream. Morrison sadly had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts, as she is working on her directorial debut Flint Strong. Perhaps it’ll give her an opportunity to join a future Marvel Studios project in a new role.

We still don’t know which actors are reprising their roles, but as Variety points out Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett seem likely to return. As it has started production, we might get a clearer picture on the film’s plot in the near future.
