‘The Bad Batch’ Producer Discusses Potential of Omega and Boba Fett Meeting

As Season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch finally premieres, fans of the franchise eagerly look toward how the events of the show will play into the larger tapestry of Star Wars. One major pathway would likely come in the form of Omega, a rare unique clone that deviated from the specific genetics of Jango Fett. The only other in the same universe is the popular character of Boba Fett. Naturally, this has led to some desire from the audience to see the two characters interact at some point in the animated series.

However, fans shouldn’t expect to see an interaction between the two happen any time soon. In an interview with the Direct, Bad Batch producer and season two premiere writer Jennifer Corbett spoke about this possibility and why they won’t be capitalizing on it in their show.

I think a lot of people want that because they are brother and sister but it’s important for her, at this point in her life, and where her journey is – she’s at a very different place than where Boba is right now. So we just really wanted to focus on her growth and her interactions with her found family versus the trajectory that Boba’s currently on. But, you know, never say never.

    Jennifer Corbett

This is a logical reason to hold off on any interaction between Omega and Boba Fett. It’s important for both Omega and Star Wars: The Bad Batch to find their own identity without being ensconced into specific lore of the franchise, something that Star Wars has sometimes struggled with in the past. Allowing Omega to grow solely through her relationships with Clone Force 99 will only make her that much of a strong character in the universe. And at that point, the creative forces for the show should only then consider a meeting of the de facto siblings (which is likely too tantalizing to turn down at some point in the timeline).

The first two episodes of the second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch are now currently available to watch on Disney+.

REVIEW: Star Wars Television Moment Funko-Boba Fett and Fennec on the Throne

Star Wars fans can probably remember just how excited they were when the post-credit scene to the season finale of the second season of The Mandalorian showed Boba Fett, with the help of Fennec Shand, marching into Jabba’s palace, killing Bib Fortuna and taking the throne. This, of course, was followed by the official announcement that the legendary bounty hunter would get his own series, The Book of Boba Fett. While that series, which has now completed its run, may not have lived up to everyone’s expectations, there’s no debate that the post-credit scene is a moment that lives on in fan’s minds as it held the promise of something wonderful. Thanks to Funko, fans can hold onto that moment forever with a wonderful Star Wars Television Moments Funko Pop!

The deluxe set nearly perfectly captures the mood of the moment in which the iconic bounty hunter staked his claim as the crime lord of Tatooine. Impeccably detailed, the set has everything from the throne’s engraved lettering to the staff that Fortuna dropped upon his death. It also comes complete with a background featuring Fett’s mythosaur sigil, allowing collectors to show off the set against the most well-known symbol of the bounty hunter.

Collectors can order the Pop! Moment, which comes in a perfect window display box, at Entertainment Earth for $29.99.

Footage of the Cancelled Boba Fett Game Has Surfaced Online

Once upon a time, before the age of Disney, Lucasfilm was working on a game titled Star Wars: 1313. The game was centered on mythical bounty hunter Boba Fett as he made his way through the underbelly of a crime-ridden part of Coruscant referred to as Level 1313.

At the time, All eyes were on this game as it promised an immersive look into a world of Star Wars that we haven’t seen through the helmet of Boba Fett no less. Alas, the game wasn’t meant to be as it was canceled as soon as Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. Star Wars: 1313 became known as one of those pre-Disney treasures that were lost in the ether forever, never to be seen again.

Today, some footage of the canceled game has made its way online, giving us a look at what could have been. Check it out below!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XehW4OMiEr4

The game never quite made its way into a finished state hence the wildly underdeveloped systems and graphics. It isn’t quite groundbreaking by modern standards but it gives us a nice look at this Sleeping Dogs/GTA-esque game set in the underworld. Even from this brief clip, we get a version of Boba Fett that is already sorely lacking from this new era of Star Wars.

The leak almost feels serendipitous in the face of the criticism leveled at The Book of Boba Fett, a show that was supposed to give us the crime bounty hunter show we all wanted. Instead, the show ended up as a truncated, uneven story that saw Boba Fett getting punked weekly.

It’s unlikely we ever see this game get revived despite Lucasfilm’s recently announced plans to expand their AAA gaming line. We can only hope that we get something as ambitious as this buried project.

  • ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Premiere Provides Room for Who Boba Fett is Meant to Become

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Premiere Provides Room for Who Boba Fett is Meant to Become

The amount of praise the Boba Fett character has received ever since his theatrical film debut in The Empire Strikes Back is matched only by the number of doubters who often ask what he has ever actually done (besides looking cool) to deserve such recognition. It’s certainly fair to admit that there just wasn’t much to the character in the original trilogy, but that was something that, fueled by the fan response to the character, would later be addressed in several prequel projects.

It ended up being through the prequels, where we met a young Boba still with his father Jango by his side, that the character was given enough background to allow audiences to fully grasp his role in the grand scheme of the Star Wars universe. Being the popular character that he was – and still is – he then went on to either being mentioned or even appearing in many other Star Wars properties, from comics to video games, from animated shows to novels, thus expanding his own story. But even if relevant details were added to it throughout, elements that made him play a more active role in the franchise as well as make him a more complex and therefore more interesting character, the bookend that Return of the Jedi represented to his life story would always be looming in the background.

Having him seemingly die in the final chapter of the original trilogy playing a standard (albeit very good) bounty hunter-type isn’t exactly allowing for much character growth throughout the years after having initially introduced him, as a child, in a very similar role. This meant that the character could never really escape his destiny of how he found himself when swallowed whole by a Sarlacc. That is up until The Mandalorian came along.

For the first time (?) Boba Fett’s future wasn’t set in stone. But even then we still saw a man trying to get back to his old ways, collecting his armor, his ship, and rebuilding his persona after being forgotten and left for dead on the sands of Tattoine. But now, having him return to the same planet where he was forgotten to take Jabba’s throne seems like the perfect occasion to finally start to deconstruct the character into what it perhaps was always meant to evolve into.

Being the one in charge will probably not live up to Boba Fett’s expectations. As with many things in life, when the chase is sometimes more gratifying than actually achieving one’s goal, it feels like it’s only a matter of time until Fett becomes disillusioned by the expectations of what a Tattoine crime lord is supposed to do and eventually become. His sense of honor and duty, both of which got a few glimpses of in The Mandalorian, will likely kick in as he moves to distance himself from everybody’s expectations of how he should behave in his newfound role. He already stated that, unlike his predecessor, he doesn’t torture and he does not plan to rule with fear; perhaps it’s also in his future to drop either the ‘crime’ or the ‘lord’ from the title he now holds. Either way, Fett is now free from all narrative shackles and can now break the mold of how everyone expected him to present himself.

Following Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land we now wait for the next six episodes as The Book of Boba Fett hopefully answers its most pressing question: Who is Boba Fett meant to become?

A Look at ‘Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett’ Disney+ Special

Disney+ Day seems to be starting early for some European countries. A few properties have already gone live, and even though there are still several events scheduled for the remainder of the day relating to Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel projects, the Boba Fett special titled Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett is already available.

It’s a 21-minute mini-documentary, cataloging the evolution of the character through the years, from its four lines and six minutes and 32 seconds of screen time in The Empire Strikes Back, to the pop culture icon it evolved into. We get footage of his introduction at the County Fair, in Marin County in 1978, the hows and the whys of its creation, and several small intimate stories of how both fans and people who worked in Star Wars had their lives impacted by the Mandalorian bounty Hunter.

It features interviews with George LucasDave FiloniJoe JohnstonBen Burtt (sound designer), some Ralph McQuarrie sketches, and much more, including statements by Duwayne Dunham, who was part of the editing team and became the first man to wear the iconic armor.

    Disney+ kicks off stateside tomorrow.

  • ‘The Mandalorian’: Boba Fett Spin-Off Finally Confirmed

‘The Mandalorian’: Boba Fett Spin-Off Finally Confirmed

Just a month ago, it got revealed that a spin-off focusing on bounty hunter Boba Fett was in development. All we knew is that it had already seemed to enter production, so they had some major plans for the project. A while back, there were plans for an entire film focused on Boba Fett with Josh Trank attached. Yet, after the reception and troubled production of Fantastic Four, it got swiftly canceled, and we didn’t know if they would revisit the bounty hunter’s story ever again. Well, that was until his return in The Mandalorian. It was what fans were waiting for, as the show finally explored the character’s overall place in the galaxy with his background as a clone. We even got some badass action sequences to showcase his abilities. Now, the only question remained, when could we expect the spin-off, and how would it fit in the overall Star Wars timeline.

There are major spoilers for the latest episode of The Mandalorian in the rest of this article. Only continue at your own risk, or watch the latest episode before continuing.

So, now that was quite the season finale. The biggest surprise came at the end of the episode, as it had a post-credit sequence teasing the spin-off. It is now confirmed to be titled The Book of Boba Fett, which will premiere in December 2021. Now, the interesting thing is that The Mandalorian‘s third season was a plan to release that same month. We also didn’t get a unique title card for Boba’s spin-off, which almost hints at the upcoming third season focused on Boba rather than Din. That doesn’t make sense, especially how much this episode highlighted that Fett isn’t technically a Mandalorian. His father was a foundling, but it seems that Bo-Katan disagrees with him having any connection.

The Mandalorian‘s third season also entered production under the working title Buccaneer. The production title doesn’t seem to line-up with the tease from the post-credit sequence. So, it might be its show after all. Din’s story isn’t over, especially with him wielding the Darksaber after defeating Moff Gideon. So, I believe that Boba Fett will release early December and lead into the third season of Din’s story. Whatever they have planned, we’ll have plenty of Star Wars to look forward to.

  • ‘THE MANDALORIAN’ Season Finale Theory: Boba Fett Signing Off

‘THE MANDALORIAN’ Season Finale Theory: Boba Fett Signing Off

The ability The Mandalorian has of making almost every single storyline detail matter down the line might help to predict what pay-offs we might be getting this Friday on the Season 2 Finale. But then again, the ability The Mandalorian has of making almost every single storyline detail matter down the line also makes it difficult to zero in on which ones will actually be the focus of this final episode. It goes both ways. We’ve already discussed how Mando’s armor, his beskar spear, the Dark Troopers, and Gideon’s Darksaber might come into play as the season ends. But for now, let’s center on the characters.

In terms of returning characters, “Chapter 15: The Believer” gave us what is sure to be the main crew that’ll be by Mando’s side, helping him to retrieve Grogu. But there is another character that, ever since its introduction earlier this season, was bound to show up again as her own journey shares the same objective as Din’s. That character is, of course, Bo-Katan Kryze. Both she and Mando are looking for Moff Gideon, as he has something both of them want back and so being, her return shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

On the other hand, we’ve already had characters that were initially introduced only to properly return the following season. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand both showed up for the first time in “Chapter 5: The Gunslinger”, and it wasn’t until “Chapter 14: The Tragedy” that they were a bit more fleshed out, with their arc perhaps more deeply explored on this week’s season finale. This could then mean that Bo-Katan’s return in search of the Darksaber might be something we’ll only witness next season. If this is the case, and as her story is so intrinsically connected to Moff Gideon’s, that could mean that this season might end much in the way The Empire Strikes Back did. With the hero having lost the final confrontation with his enemy and having to regroup before going after a missing friend.

This sort of bittersweet ending isn’t unfamiliar to The Mandalorian. Even though season 1 ended on a high note with Moff Gideon defeated and Din and Grogu leaving Nevarro unscathed, IG-11 was destroyed and Kuiil was killed while protecting Grogu. That showed us that in this world victories come at a price and that no matter the way season 2 wraps up, there might be more loss to endure. Din and Grogu aren’t obviously going anywhere as the show would lose its heart if any of the two were to leave it. Fennec Shand could be a possibility but her previous “death” and the lack of connection to the character would make it a terribly impactful death. That leaves Boba Fett.

Chapter 14 reintroduced us to the old Boba Fett but it also presented us with a somewhat new Boba. On the one hand, he delivered on the expected toughness of the character but he also came through as an honorable warrior, not just a ruthless bounty hunter. It seemed like after the events of Return of the Jedi, having lost his armor, he went through some sort of rebirth and is now wanting to leave his old ways behind and live a more withdrawn life. “I’m a simple man making his way through the galaxy. Like my father before me”.

And now, being in Din Djarin’s debt until Grogu is returned safely feels like an opportunity to make good on not only a promise made but also on erasing a few of his own ghosts that might still haunt him, making him much more at peace with his past. As we saw on Attack of the Clones, Boba lost his father Jango while he was still a child. Jango was, as Din found out in Chapter 14, a foundling just like Din himself. That will make Boba see the relationship between Din and Grogu as he did the one with his own father. By reuniting Din and Grogu, Boba will allow for Grogu to have something he missed out on, a life with a father figure, and that might just be his ultimate selfless act, especially if he has to give up his own life for it to happen.

Jon Favreau has said that he’d like to further explore the character, but having Boba die shouldn’t stop that from happening. The Boba Fett show that is said to be in production could very well be a prequel that either shows us how Fett survived the Sarlacc pit or some of the events that took place before his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. That is perhaps the more enticing option as we would get a full suited Boba Fett in his prime, where the adventures could live up to the character’s legacy. But as far as The Mandalorian is concerned, and considering how the chess pieces are now placed, Boba Fett could go out as the hero no one expected him to be. In the end, it might not happen. But it would be one hell of a sign-off.
