D23: Skydance Media’s WW2 Marvel Game May Be Single Player After All

The first-ever Disney and Marvel Games Showcase has gone by in what seems like a flash with a few interesting reveals. Among them was the confirmation that Skydance Media is definitely working on a Captain America and Black Panther-focused game. Some became a bit curious about the mention of four heroes, as a soldier and member of the Dora Milaje are joining Captain America and that era’s Black Panther given its WW2 focus.

It made some think it might be a multiplayer game but the D23 expo continued with the developers offering some insight into he game and it turns out, it’s actual a “character-driven action adventure game” which opens up to this being a single-player game after all as shared by Andrew Reiner from the event. So we may actually switch between these four characters throughout the storyline to explore World War 2 from these different perspectives.

As it seems, the game that was teased earlier today to feature Captain America and Black panther during World War 2 was real. The trailer has just been revealed not only outright confirming it but also seemingly hinting at a four-player mode. It may be an online multiplayer game but the teaser doesn’t give away a lot as of now and we’ll have to wait for more information. The game is the one that Skydance is currently working on with Uncharted’s May Hennig headlining the project.

  • ‘Uncharted’ Creator’s Marvel Game Is Rumored to Be A WW2 Captain America Game

‘Uncharted’ Creator’s Marvel Game Is Rumored to Be A WW2 Captain America Game

Last year, a report surfaced saying that Uncharted creator Amy Hennig was working on a AAA Marvel under her new company, Skydance Games. While no other information was divulged in the report, the game was described as a “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.”

A Twitter account is claiming that the game Hennig is working on is a Captain America-Black Panther adventure set in WW2. Regarding their track record, said Twitter account is also claiming they leaked Matt Shakman directing Fantastic Four ahead of The Direct so take as much salt as you will.

Should this story be true, this won’t be the only Black Panther game in development as EA is reportedly working on an open-world Black Panther game set in Wakanda. Nonetheless, a WW2 game starring Captain America game seems like the kind of story-driven game a visionary like Hennig would work on. While it’s not being developed by Naughty Dog, a Captain America-Black Panther with the gameplay and graphical fidelity of the Uncharted games would be incredible.

  • ‘She-Hulk’ Star Was Consulted on ‘Captain America: New World Order’s Director

‘She-Hulk’ Star Was Consulted on ‘Captain America: New World Order’s Director

There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the many new project heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many were also anxiously waiting for an update on the long-rumored Captain America sequel. Back in July, we learned that Julius Onah would tackle the job as director for the film which would get the subtitle New World Order during San Diego Comic-Con. As it turns out one of She-Hulks‘ stars may have had a hand in helping get him the job.

As it turns out, it seems that Marvel Studio was consulting on the director’s abilities with Tim Roth, who co-starred in Luce by Julius Onah. In an interview, it turns out that he’s only found out about his former director’s new job in the Marvel family and was quite excited for this new opportunity for him.

Okay, let me tell you this. Julius is incredible. He’s an extraordinary human being and the story that we told… Again, it was my second time working with Naomi Watts, too. I love her. She’s one of the funniest humans you’ll ever meet, but Julius is extraordinary and I didn’t know that he was doing that. They came to me to ask me about him. And I wrote letters and stuff. I’m so glad if… You know what? They’re in safe hands. I’m so pleased, I didn’t know. You just told me, I didn’t know

    Tim Roth

It’s great to see that Marvel Studios also consults with the many actors they’ve worked with and their history with various directors. Onah is an exciting addition as he’ll bring something new to the franchise that is generally going through chance with its new lead in Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson. It’ll be interesting to see how they explore the character’s new position in the world and continue where Falcon and the Winter Soldier left us off.

  • ‘She-Hulk’ Episode 3 Includes A Potential Captain America Connection

‘She-Hulk’ Episode 3 Includes A Potential Captain America Connection

Through three episodes She-Hulk has already made a habit of sneaking in comic book characters and Easter eggs in addition to tying itself into all corners of the MCU. The A plot of Episode 3, “The People vs. Emil Blonsky”, focused on one of the MCU’s oldest villains in Tim Roth’s the Abomination and, in doing so, may have brought a Captain America connection to light.

Episode 3 picks up right where Episode 2 left off with Jen confronting Blonsky about his breakout from prison, which was captured on camera and has become national news. Since Jen was working on Blonsky’s potential parole, the footage is kind of an issue. Jen’s status as a female superhero lawyer and the bad news footage of Blonsky fighting Wong quickly become talking points for all the talking heads of the world (the writers created a WONDERFUL satire of the real world in this episode), including one by the name of Jefferson Coop, played by Mahdi Cocci. As part of his show, The Conversation, Coop interviews the prosecutor who put Blonsky behind bars all those years ago after his rampage in Harlem. And, as it turns out, that prosecutor has some big-time connections!

The prosecutor, played by Jason Turner, goes by the name of Gideon Wilson. In the comics, Gideon Wilson is the name of both Sam Wilson’s brother who has some pretty significant connections to gamma-related characters. While Sam’s sister, Sarah, was introduced in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, no mention was made of another sibling. Like in the comics, the Wilsons were born in Harlem, however, it has also been established that they moved to Louisiana where they were raised. While it’s not made clear in the episode if Gideon is indeed Sam’s brother, it’s possible he moved back to Harlem to pursue his law career where he was born. So for now it’s best to take it as a cool Easter egg and keep an eye on whether or not Gideon pops back up in the future. Either way, Jessica Gao and company certainly have displayed a knack for dropping in some wonderful comic book connections!

  • New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’s Stealth Suit

New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’s Stealth Suit

It looks like a few skins have found their way online again for Marvel’s Avengers. The game has been taking a few more steps forward, as they just revealed Winter Soldier is making his way into the game alongside the long-awaited Cloning Labs in an update later this year. With the latest update, it seems that leaker @mmmmmmmmiller has gotten his hands on the first look at some upcoming skins including one from Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Fans have long hoped to see the iconic suit make its way into the game, as it was one of his most popular designs at the time of the film’s release. Like with most Marvel Cinematic Universe suits, it does seem like they went into a lot of detail to bring it to life in the game, and will surely be a popular choice for many that main Captain America.

It’ll be interesting how many more MCU suits they have already cooking. Just recently they revealed one based on Jane Foster’s costume from Thor: Love and Thunder. With Winter Soldier’s upcoming arrival they’ll also have quite a few new designs they can add with his extensive history throughout the MCU. So, it seems they won’t be running out of any options for new skins anytime soon.

  • BREAKING: ‘Captain America 4’ Finds Its Director in Julius Onah

BREAKING: ‘Captain America 4’ Finds Its Director in Julius Onah

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Julius Onah will direct the film for Marvel Studios. Onah, a Nigerian-American filmmaker, is perhaps best known for his work on The Cloverfield Paradox, as well as the critically acclaimed Luce. Captain America 4 will serve as Onah’s biggest film project to date.

Captain America 4, which was announced shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended, is being penned Malcolm Spellman, the head writer of The Falcon and the Winder Soldier, and Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the show. As of now, no start date has been announced for the upcoming film.

The film will see Anthony Mackie return as the shield-wielding hero after taking over the Captain America mantle in the Disney+ series. While previous reports suggested Chris Evans might be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for an undisclosed project, it remains to be seen whether or not the project is Captain America 4. In recent weeks, Evans has suggested a return as Steve Rogers is unlikely, as he is content with how his character’s story ended, so it seems unlikely he’ll return for Captain America 4 as of now.

A release date for Captain America 4, which still lacks an official title, has not yet been announced.

  • ‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ Almost Featured a Wakandan Shield Upgrade for the New Captain America

‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ Almost Featured a Wakandan Shield Upgrade for the New Captain America

It looks like the development team behind Falcon and the Winter Soldier have gone through quite a few ideas on how to support Sam Wilson’s new role as Captain America. Unlike his predecessor, he doesn’t have the same Super Soldier serum to give him an edge in battle, which hints at him being more dependent on his wits and weaponry. To counteract that, it seems they have considered giving his shield a new Wakandan upgrade that would’ve created a dome energy shield, as shared by development concept illustrator Wesley Burt.

He goes on to highlight how he approached the idea, as their team was tasked with thinking up new ways that Sam could use the shield in creative ways, which ended up leading to the results you can see above.

Ryan [Meinerding] asked some of the [Visual Development] department to take a little bit of time and think up some new ways that Sam could use the shield, more specific to him and his own physicality with it… when I was thinking about the tech rim piece, I was looking for a way to minimally add an element to the shield so as not to distract too much from the shield itself but still make it feel like it could have a believable tech addition and hint at the Wakandan upgrades before you see them used

    Wesley Burt

While the concept hasn’t made its way into the Disney+ series, it doesn’t mean they may revisit the idea at a later point. We still don’t know what Sam may owe Wakanda given they help create his design and him carrying it is fitting with the shield being made from Wakandan Vibranium. Perhaps they may further explore its ties to the country and how it connects to Sam Wilson’s new role given his own background, especially the way his country views him.

  • Chris Evans Discusses the Challenges of a Potential Return as Captain America

Chris Evans Discusses the Challenges of a Potential Return as Captain America

While on the press tour for Pixar’s upcoming film Lightyear, star Chris Evans has discussed a wide variety of topics about the film and his career. Naturally, his time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America would be a talking point. This is especially the case with rumors that have long been circulated that Evans has already signed on to return as Steve Rogers for at least one more future project, even after his send-off in Avengers: Endgame. However, in an interview with Phase Zero, Chris Evans has seemingly shot down those rumors as he discussed the potential personal risks of returning to the role.

I don’t want to disappoint anybody, but I just don’t know…it’s tough, it was such a good run and I’m so happy with it and you know, it’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It would just be scary to rattle something that is so dear to me. And that role means so much to me, so to revisit it would be a tall order.

    Chris Evans

The concerns from Evans are certainly valid as Steve Rogers had one of the most successful runs as a character across the board as Captain America throughout his near decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To make a return would run the risk of at least slightly spoiling his immaculate seven film run. Though if there is any film studio that could best handle the gravitas of Captain America, it would be Marvel Studios. They’ve successfully shown this the skill to handle irreverent returning characters from other cinematic franchises within the past year between Patrick Stewart returning as a variant of his ever-popular portrayal as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their respective versions of Spider-Man to mass creative, critical, and commercial success in Spider-Man: No Way Home. If Marvel Studios has been able to find this success with legacy franchises, one could certainly think it’ll land with returning legends from the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself.

Ultimately, time will tell on if Chris Evans will indeed return as Captain America and the full story on when it may have been agreed upon.
