  • ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin Shares His Feelings on the CW Series Ending

‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin Shares His Feelings on the CW Series Ending

CW’s The Flash is coming to an end with its upcoming ninth season. Not only that, but it’ll also be a shorter run, which was also the case with some other CW shows. With its ninth season, it’ll also be the Arrowverse series to have had the longest season count as it has now passed Arrow, which ended with eight seasons.

Of course, it’s not every day that a franchise ends after such a long tenure and it won’t be an easy change for many of the cast. Grant Gustin, who played the series take on Barry Allen, got a chance to share his thoughts on wrapping up work on the role and what it’s like leaving the role behind after all this time.

I’m really excited to get to do this one more time, finish on our terms. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it, as much as I can…. I couldn’t be more honored to be associated with this character, probably for the rest of my life and career. It is seriously a true honor.

    Grant Gustin

There’s been an outcry of support for the actor to take on the role of the cinematic version of The Flash, especially with the drama surrounding Ezra Miller. Though, one could say Gustin deserves a break after such a long tenure in the role. Who knows what future role he is eyeing and if there’s a project he’s already set his eyes on potentially joining at some point in the near future?

  • Nexstar Nearing Deal to Take Over Majority of CW Network Alongside Its $100M+ Losses

Nexstar Nearing Deal to Take Over Majority of CW Network Alongside Its $100M+ Losses

It’s not been too long ago since the first news arrived that Warner Bros. Discovery was continuing its dismantling of the original structure, such as selling the CW Network. Now, it seems that Nextar Media Group who owns a slew of local television stations, is eyeing to take over the majority of the program. Accoridng to the Wall Street Journal, they aren’t even going to pay cash for it but rather will cover a significant part of its losses, which supposedly are above $100M currently.

WSJ does point out that the deal isn’t final and could fall apart but we would know within the next few weeks. Surprisingly, Warner Bros. Discovery will still remain a shareholder with a 12.5% stake, the same amount that Paramount is going to keep. CBS and WB are still planning on creating content for CW, but Nexstar is eyeing to expand with other producers while the minority owners keep the content-licensing revenue from pre-existing deals such as their very lucrative Netflix dealings.

It should be noted that Nexstar is already the largest owner, but this would give them almost full control over future ventures. The big focus will be to expand its target audience, as the CW broadcaster generally built its dynamic around teen-focused dramas such as Riverdale, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, and many more. CW was never truly seen as profitable, but the Netflix deal became one of its biggest sellers that it managed to carry a network even with direct income losses from ad revenue. the broadcaster was famous for renewing series that seemingly had no audience, while their dramas entered the top 10 in the U.S. on Netflix. So, we’ll have to see if the deal comes together in the coming weeks.

  • Colton Haynes Reveals Why He Left ‘Arrow’ Ahead of Season 8

Colton Haynes Reveals Why He Left ‘Arrow’ Ahead of Season 8

With the release of his new memoir, Colton Haynes is finally opening up as to what led him to exit Arrow ahead of Season 8.

His memoir, Miss Memory Lane, was released on May 31st. The 256-page book from Atria Books takes fans down memory lane as Haynes recalls his struggles with addiction, abuse, and his time on Teen Wolf and the CW’s Arrow. The actor, who is set to appear in the Paramount+ Teen Wolf revival movie, left MTV’s Teen Wolf series in 2012 after appearing for two seasons. The decision to leave was financially-based as the network refused to pay the actor what his fellow stars were being paid. Ironically enough, this is an issue Arden Cho experienced too when she received a lowball offer to return for the Paramount+ Teen Wolf movie.

Unfortunately, Haynes had an even more frustrating experience when he was a part of the cast of the CW’s Arrow. The actor starred in the series for seven seasons before transitioning to a recurring role ahead of Season 8. For Haynes, the decision to exit Arrow after Season 7 was due to personal reasons. He wasn’t in the best state mentally, nor did he have a great relationship with his co-stars, or at least one in particular.

In his memoir he writes, “I had walked away from my full-time job on Arrow at the beginning of the year, supposedly because my contract had ended, but it was really because I was too depressed and I couldn’t stand working with one of my cast mates.”

Arrow ended after Season 8 and since then, Haynes hasn’t really appeared in much outside of an episode of Hulu’s Dollface, as well as a music video for Lil Nas X. He can next be seen in Teen Wolf: The Movie, where he’ll reprise his role as Jackson Whittemore. Production recently wrapped and the movie is set to debut sometime this year.

  • First Look at CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ in New Promo

First Look at CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ in New Promo

It seemingly took CW little time to get the adaptation of Gotham Knights on the road. Not only did it start production quite swiftly but it even got a production order. Coinciding with the upcoming release of the game with the same name, expectations were high. Yet, we were quite surprised when Oscar Morgan was cast as Turner Hayes, the series equivalent to Dick Grayson. While we got a promo shot, it seems that an actual teaser trailer for the pilot episode has found its way online through SpoilerTV.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-gUHOpRUqc

It’s quite strange that they’d release a 3-minute trailer that seemingly was meant to go online on Twitter given its format. The story seemingly will just instantly reveal that Bruce Wayne is Batman, as not-Dick Grayson tries to find out who was the one that killed his father. After getting arrested alongside other suspects, he is seemingly going to join forces with them to uncover who exactly did it. We get some small hints at these characters’ history, such as Carrie Kelly being called “little Robin” and Duela’s origin as the daughter of the Joker.

The trailer seems like the most CW one of the DC series have ever looked. If it weren’t for the mention of Batman and a brief glimpse at the Batcave later on, it wouldn’t really feel like this is part of a DC-inspired world. We’ll see if perhaps they are holding back for the final episode to reveal these characters’ more heroic (or even villainous) natures to build up the seasonal arc.

  • Seth Green to Replace Jim Gaffigan as Thunderbolt in ‘Stargirl’ Season 3

Seth Green to Replace Jim Gaffigan as Thunderbolt in ‘Stargirl’ Season 3

Here’s a sad surprise, it looks like Seth Green is taking over as the voice of Thunderbolt in the third season of CW’s Stargirl series from Jim Gaffigan. TVLine has broken the news that the wish-granting genie will have a new voice actor, but no reason is given on why exactly he was recast. He only voiced the character in a few scenes of the second season and it may be that he has a larger role going into the third.

Jakeem (Alkoya Brunson) is the wielder of the mysterious pink pen that Thunderbolt exists in. He helped the team of unlikely heroes and a reestablished Justice Society of America to take down the threat that was Eclipso. Green is no stranger to voice acting, as he has been a long-time member of the Family Guy voice cast, and worked on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H and Guardians of the Galaxy series.

It’s sad to see Gaffigan leave the production, as he’s always a great addition to any project but with the role potentially growing, it could be that he had other projects lined up and just couldn’t return. Still, Green is a great get for the series, and given the supernatural origin of the genie, they could play around with the fact that he has a new voice every season as a fun running gag.

  • CW’s ‘Riverdale’ Ending With Season 7

CW’s ‘Riverdale’ Ending With Season 7

It looks like CW is truly cleaning the house. During the reveal of their 2022/2023 release schedule, they’ve also made the announcement that Riverdale will be ending with Season 7. It’s not too surprising, as some of the actors have pointed out that an end is quite likely plus the series has lost quite a bit of momentum even as it embraced more out there storytelling ideas and concepts, moving further away from its initial Twin Peaks inspiration.

The series was renewed alongside The Flash, All American, Kung Fu, and Walker. It was quite the hit with some strong ratings and eventually kicked off a new wave of momentum once it was released on Netflix, especially internationally where it was considered a “Netflix Original” for specific markets. Its “out-there” storytelling approach seemingly had many gripped, especially when some of its most viral moments spread online.

It had quite the cast with KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, and many more. The cast has gone through some curious storylines, which included a murder case, escaping the clutches of a cult, time travel, and some characters even getting their hands on superpowers. It definitely was a wild ride fo those watching but one cannot deny that it was quite a memorable one.

  • CW’s Live-Action ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Series Still in Development

CW’s Live-Action ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Series Still in Development

CW has recently been busy cleaning house, as they’ve canceled the most TV series they’ve ever had since 2012. As such, it made many wonders if any of their other rumored productions are still being worked on, especially if Warner Bros. is interested in selling the broadcast network. Well, it turns out that the live-action Powerpuff Girls series is still being worked on.

According to TVLine, the series is still in some form of “redevelopment” after the first pilot was passed on and even lost one of its main stars, Chloe Bennet in the process. CW’s CEO Mark Pedowitz has publicly stated that they believe in the cast and writers behind the project, but the pilot just didn’t quite come together as initially hoped.

We’ll likely not hear from the project for some time, as they’ve just missed the cut-off for the 2022/23 scheduling for the CW. But, Powerpuff Girls may enter production on a new pilot by the end of the year. So, once we get a casting for Blossom, who Bennet was originally going to play, we’ll likely know more on the future of the series’ second attempt.

  • CW Cancels ‘Legacies’ After Four Seasons

CW Cancels ‘Legacies’ After Four Seasons

In what has been a day filled with mass amounts of cancellations from the CW, Legacies has officially become the latest casualty. After four seasons beginning in 2018, the Julie Plec-created series has officially been pulled by the network. The show continued the overarching narrative of the Vampire Diaries franchise while introducing audiences to a new generation of supernatural beings at Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted. With the cancellation of this series, it quietly marks the end of the Vampire Diaries saga as of now, with both the original series and additional spin-off The Originals having come to an end in recent years.

Even with the end of the series, creator Julie Plec remains fully ensconced in the world of young vampires. She continues to be working on the Vampire Academy series, created by Marguerite MacIntyre and herself, for the Peacock streaming service. As well, she has recently reunited with Vampire Diaries co-creator Kevin Williamson earlier this year to begin development on an additional series for Peacock based around the Death Day film franchise.

The CW has very much upended its original programming lineup with the cancellations of 4400, Charmed, Dynasty, In the Dark, and Roswell, New Mexico earlier today. As well, the network has officially eliminated a large portion of their shows built around the DC Universe with Naomi being canceled today in conjunction with Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow recently. It certainly begs the question of what the CW has planned moving forward in terms of original programming.

  • CW Cancels ‘Charmed’ After 4 Seasons

CW Cancels ‘Charmed’ After 4 Seasons

For years, CW has been the network where shows seemingly managed to hold on for quite some time, especially if you think of shows like Arrow, The Flash, and Supernatural. Yet, they’ve been on a cancelation spree as of late. Just a few weeks ago, they’ve canceled Batwoman after it ran for three seasons even as the show managed to get more momentum in its second weekend. Still, as rumors are making the rounds that Warner Bros. Discovery is interested in selling the network, they are seemingly cleaning house.

Next in line for the chopping block is Charmed, which has now been canceled after running for four seasons on the network. Its viewership wasn’t strong as it was ranked 17th among all 19 currently airing dramas on the CW. So, it’s no surprise that it may have been up for cancelation as it lost viewers over the years. The reboot saw Madeline Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery take on the roles of witches Macy, Mel, and Maggie. Together with their British mentor, Rupert Evans as the Whitelighter Harry, they faced many dangers.

the third season added one more member to the Charmed family, as Lucy Barrett joined Michaela. The series was an adaptation of the original Charmed that ran from 1998 until 2006 and included Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, and Kaley Cuoco. It’s a shame the series was canceled and it seems that it’s not the only series on the chopping block as some newer additions are also facing a similar face.

  • ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Canceled After 7 Seasons by The CW

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Canceled After 7 Seasons by The CW

Hot off the heels of Batwoman‘s cancelation, it seems that the CW is busy cleaning up as Legends of Tomorrow is now also facing a similar fate. The series ran for seven seasons on the network and many feared the cancelation due to it still being on the fence even after The Flash got its early renewal. Yet, there are expectations that the last of the original CW series potentially also come to an end with the upcoming ninth season, it seems they are entering a new era for their DC projects.

It doesn’t mean they aren’t going to further explore DC projects, as they are currently working on the Gotham Knights series, which isn’t a Batwoman spinoff even if it has a similar setup. The only other series still waiting for a renewal is the latest addition to CW’s schedule, Naomi. As there are rumors of Warner Bros. potentially interested in selling the entire network to focus more on HBO Max, it’s unclear just how long these series might stick around with the current trends moving forward.

For now, it’s unclear what the future of the Arrowverse looks like, but it’s still impressive it ran for as long as it did. They included various crossover events that adapted some iconic comic storylines. While it confused those that we’re only watching a select few episodes, it definitely was something special for many and perhaps we’ll get one big final moment with a farewell if the franchise is coming to an end while the rest of the multiverse explores new stories independent fro the original.
