Charlie Cox Ready for More Fun with She-Hulk in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Charlie Cox‘s work as Matt Murdock and Daredevil in the Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law put an all-new, all-different spin on the character. For fans of the Netflix show, the carefree and funny Daredevil was a far cry from the morosity of the character in that series that they didn’t readily accept; for Cox, it was an enjoyable turn and one, it seems, he might like to revisit again.

Following his brief appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Murdock is expected to next show up in Echo before getting back in the business of being the main focus of a series in Daredevil: Born Again, currently set to stream in 2024. Born Again, which was announced as one, 18-episode series starts production in February 2023 and is rumored to have its fair share of cameos and guest stars. In a new interview with Metro UK, Cox revealed that one guest star he’d like to see make the cut is She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany.

I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge fan of Tatiana’s and the fun we had on She-Hulk was some of the best fun I’ve had as that character,” said Cox. “I thought she was amazing as Jennifer Walters,” he continued, “and I would be a huge… certainly an advocate of her showing up in our show if she’s free and available and willing and all of those things. So I would love for that to happen. I have no idea if that is possible.”

The two certainly shared a fun, onscreen chemistry in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and seeing Jen step into Murdock’s world of Hell’s Kitchen would present the opportunity for an intriguing contrast to their time together in San Francisco. As Cox points out, the possibility of such an appearance isn’t really up to him and while Maslany’s future in the MCU isn’t in question when her character appears next absolutely is. However, with Born Again filming for the majority of 2023, maybe the actress can find some time in her schedule to fit a few days of filming in.

  • Daredevil Will Not Appear in ‘Deadpool 3’

Daredevil Will Not Appear in ‘Deadpool 3’

It would seem audiences will have to wait a little longer for the Man Without Fear to meet the Merc With a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier this month, during a guest spot at German Comic-Con in Dortmund, Daredevil star Charlie Cox stated he’d love to see his character appear in the next Deadpool film, which is currently set to feature Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their iconic roles in a wild, time-hopping adventure. The actor explained that, with the darker nature of his upcoming solo series Daredevil: Born Again, he felt that a cross-over with the Deadpool franchise would be both fun and possible. Unfortunately, though, a recent interview with TechRadar has thrown some cold water on fans’ hopes that this might actually come to fruition.

When asked about his previous comments, Cox decided to set the record straight. He had only been pondering possibilities, and as of now, he’s “definitely” not in Deadpool 3:

Oh god, what did I say again? Oh yeah, I said that in Germany, didn’t I? I can tell you now, I’m definitely not in Deadpool 3.

    Charlie Cox

Cox made his MCU debut as Matt Murdock last year, making an important cameo as the lawyer of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He reappeared not long after in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+, acting as a courtroom rival and part-time lover of Tatiana Maslany‘s Jennifer Walters, and wearing the Daredevil suit into action for the first time since the original Daredevil series ended its run in 2018. Now, fans are rabid to know who they might see him team up with next. Daredevil and Deadpool have a history of interacting in the comics, but it looks like a live-action adaptation of their complicated relationship is not currently in the cards at Marvel Studios.

  • Charlie Cox Has Disappointing News for Fans of Netflix’s Broody, Bloody ‘Daredevil’

Charlie Cox Has Disappointing News for Fans of Netflix’s Broody, Bloody ‘Daredevil’

Charlie Cox couldn’t be more excited about continuing to portray Matt Murdock and Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After bringing the dual personalities to life in 2015 on the Netflix streaming series Daredevil, which was canceled after 3 seasons, Cox was given new life as the character when Marvel Studios One Above All, Kevin Feige, reached out ahead of production on 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Kevin Feige called and said, ‘We’d like to bring you into the MCU’”, said Cox of the fateful call in an interview with NME. “I was over the moon,” said the star. “I love this character.” That call ended with Cox agreeing to cameos in No Way Home and the 2022 streaming series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Beyond that, Cox’s future as the character was undefined. That’s all changed now as Cox is scheduled for a fairly large role in the Disney Plus streaming series Echo ahead of starring alongside Vincent D’Onofrio in the 18-episode streamer, Daredevil: Born Again.

Cox’s appearance in She-Hulk, where he played the character as “quick-witted and funny and charismatic and carefree at times“, according to Cox, probably isn’t the template for the character going forward. Cox knows that fans of Netflix’s Daredevil loved the brooding, bloody and brutal tone of the show, but he also knows this new series is headed for Disney Plus. “My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared toward a slightly more mature audience,” said Cox, while cautioning, “my instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.” So what exactly is Daredevil: Born Again going to shape up to be?

Cox has gone on record before, calling Daredevil: Born Again a “whole new deal, a sentiment he reiterated to NME. “This has to be a reincarnation,” said Cox of Born Again. “It has to be different, otherwise why are we doing it?” So what should the fans who fell in love with the iteration of the character whose story was told over 3 seasons on Netflix? “I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?

That’s not exactly encouraging news for fans of the TV-MA version of the character; however, it’s consistent with what Cox has been saying all along.

Charlie Cox Confirms Intense ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Filming Schedule

Daredevil: Born Again will be Marvel Studios’ first project featuring Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock as a lead character, and we are all for it. Following the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s appearance as his lawyer persona in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the costumed Daredevil made got his first taste of MCU action in the 2022 series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. In the show, Matt headed to the West Coast to defend superhero tailor Luke Jacobson.

At the German Comic Con, Cox expressed much anticipation about appearing in further MCU projects, such as Daredevil: Born Again, and teased a possible appearance in the third installment in the Deadpool trilogy, saying “I think there’s a place for Daredevil to show up in Deadpool.”

In October, DiscussingFilm founder Jacob Fisher went on Twitter to share news regarding Daredevil: Born Again‘s production. He reported that “the series is planning to begin filming in February and last for pretty much the entire year”, which was unsurprising, considering that the series will span 18 episodes.

In an interview with NME, Charlie Cox talked about returning as the Man Without Fear. He confirmed the filming schedule for Born Again, stating this:

“They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023’, I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023’. I start shooting in February and finish in December.”

Daredevil: Born Again will be one of Marvel Studios’ lone projects to film in New York, rather than Atlanta. This makes set media more probable, which will definitely reveal more about where Matt heads in this series. Daredevil: Born Again is currently expected to stream on Disney Plus in 2024.

  • Sandrine Holt Could Be Playing One of Wolverine’s Shadiest Associates in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Sandrine Holt Could Be Playing One of Wolverine’s Shadiest Associates in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

The cast of Daredevil: Born Again is rounding out fairly quickly as business in Hollywood gets close to wrapping up for 2022. Over the past week, four major additions have been made to the cast. One of the latest additions to the cast was 24 and House of Cards alumn Sandrine Holt, who was cast to play a South Asian character in the series. Trade reports of her casting indicated she may be a possible love interest for one of the series leads (Charlie Cox or Vincent D’Onofrio) and while that may be the case, her character will be formidable in the series and Holt’s contract seems to include options for her to appear in other MCU projects. While the internet went wild theorizing who Holt might be, most of the guesses were drawn from a pretty shallow pool of characters who are well associated with Daredevil or Kingpin. However, given the scope of Daredevil: Born Again, it’s possible that Holt might be playing someone from outside Hell’s Kitchen. In fact, she might be playing someone who’s as far from Hell’s Kitchen as it gets.

Over the course of its 18-episode season, Daredevil: Born Again is rumored to eventually find Wilson Fisk running for Mayor of New York City. That’s a pretty tall order for a guy who was working out of a garage and running the Tracksuit Mafia before being shot in the face in the season finale of Hawkeye. Part of Fisk’s arc to becoming Mayor of NYC may take place in Echo, which is rumored to feature another gang known as the Black Knife Cartel, but fans should expect most of that arc to take place in Born Again. Whatever the case with Fisk, he certainly can’t be running for Mayor while most of income can be traced to organized crime. Even the Kingpin might need to clean some of that money to look legit and in the MCU, there’s one place where that kind of business gets done on the daily: Madripoor.

First visited in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Madripoor is a criminal safehaven located in Southeast Asia where, for the most part, anything goes. Run by Sharon Carter, aka the Power Broker, Madripoor has plenty of crime, organized and otherwise, and was shown to be big into cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency has become the modern hub for money laundering and in the MCU, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that Madripoor could be the hub for laundering. Should Kingpin be in the market for such a racket, one particular character who is a major player on the island nation in the comics comes to mind quickly.

Jessán Hoan is exactly the kind of criminal Wilson Fisk might find himself turning to in order to clean a boatload of money quickly. A financial genius who once worked at her family’s major international bank, Hoan wound up in Madripoor where she quickly rose up the ranks, ultimately becoming the island’s overlord: the Queenpin of Madripoor. Better known as Tyger Tiger, Hoan is a known associate of Wolverine, or Patch as he calls himself on the island, and owns the Princess Bar that he so loved to frequent. Ruthless and brilliant, Tyger Tiger is just the type of associate Fisk would seek out.

    Is Holt Playing Tyger Tiger?

It is certainly one option, but given the lack of information on the character, it’s impossible to tell. Given there’s only one South Asian location that’s currently established within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Holt is playing a South Asian character, there’s at least one potential link to Tyger Tiger. The character is also described as “confident”, “knowledgable” and willing to say what’s on her mind. Those descriptors all certainly match the comic’s presentation of Tyger Tiger. While there’s no comic book history between Tyger Tiger and Kingpin, the MCU isn’t exactly known for keeping to the pages of the comics these days. Madripoor exists. It’s the kind of place a guy like Fisk would certainly know about and depending on how they wish to film it, Fisk might not even have to visit The Princess Bar: Tyger Tiger could visit him in NYC. A return trip to Madripoor and a look around the Princess Bar would be pretty fantastic, though, and could easily be done while filming in New York City.

As is always the case when guessing at the identity of an unknown character, it’s more likely Holt is anyone else other than Tyger Tiger; however, Tyger Tiger is one intriguing option for Sandrine Holt, who is likely to return to the MCU down the line.

Who else could Holt be playing? We’d love to hear your ideas on Twitter.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Adds Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt in Major Roles

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Adds Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt in Major Roles

The time has come, as we’re getting our first real casting announcement for the upcoming Disney+ continuation of Daredevil, Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are the only known cast to return with Matt Corman and Chris Ord acting as showrunners on the new adaptation of the iconic Man Without Fear. Deadline has just revealed that they have cast Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt in major roles, which are even described to potentially be love interests for the leads.

Yes, you read that correctly for both leads. It does raise the question if potentially one of them might be a recasting for Vanessa, the Kingpin’s long-time lover from the comics and the original Netflix series where she was played by Ayelet Zurer. There’s still the big question if we’ll see other actors from that series return and this casting does raise some questions on how Marvel Studios will tackle their take on the character.

Levieva is no stranger to Disney+ series, as she has also recently been cast in the Star Wars series The Acolyte. Perhaps her involvement with that project caught the attention of Marvel Studios, who always had a habit of casting rising stars. Holt has made a name for herself in American Gigolo, but has an extensive TV background with House of Cards, Better Call Saul, The Expanse, MacGyver, and many more. With this casting out, there’s a good chance we might hear more about additional cast members in the near future as the series gets ready for production.

  • Marvel Studios Has More ‘Daredevil’ in Mind

Marvel Studios Has More ‘Daredevil’ in Mind

As Daredevil: Born Again prepares to go into production in early 2023, Marvel Studios has begun assembling the supporting cast of the project including Michael Gandolfini and Colin Woodell. Casting will continue to make quite a bit of news over the next few weeks leading up to the holiday break as the studio looks to fill at least a half dozen new roles for the series. And as casting gets underway, an interesting bit of information has made its way to us.

Daredevil: Born Again looks to be the most ambitious project Marvel Studios has undertaken on Disney Plus. Production is set to run for nearly 11 months on the project which will consist of an unprecedented 18 episodes. While all actors won’t need to be on set every day of the shoot, some of the principals will be giving up a significant part of their year to the project. That’s a big undertaking for anyone which makes the information here even more interesting.

As these new actors are sealing their deals with Marvel Studios, I’m told that some like Colin Woodell, are signing on for one-and-done contracts. Thinking out loud, that probably means Woodell isn’t playing someone like Bullseye, who would likely be a recurring villain should Marvel Studios choose to use the character. I’m also told that others, like Gandolfini, are closing deals with options for future seasons and appearances in other Marvel Studios properties. That means that Gandolfini is much more likely to be playing someone like Richard Fisk than some no-name mafioso.

Nobody here is privy to the fine print of these contracts and having options does not mean that the characters are guaranteed to return or that another season is already going to happen. For all anyone knows, the options could be for a film like Spider-Man 4, which could see Spidey and Daredevil team up against Wilson Fisk, as all the actors involved have indicated they would be interested in making happen. However, if the contract option are for more seasons of Daredevil, it would certainly seem as though a second season would be quite a ways off, especially if another season were to be comprised of anywhere near as many episodes. There’s no reason to believe another season of Daredevil would have to be 18 episodes and there’s no reason to believe it couldn’t be; however, it seems as though Daredevil: Born Again‘s elevated episode count is due in part to the importance of the series in building the street-level corner of the MCU.

Given how fond Charlie Cox is of the role, the vast library of Daredevil stories in the comics and incredible roster of supporting characters, it would be shocking if Marvel Studios did NOT produce future seasons of Daredevil on Disney Plus. The contracts these actors are signing might just be the first indication to Marvel Studios’ plans.

  • ‘The Flight Attendant’ Star Colin Woodell Reportedly Joins ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

‘The Flight Attendant’ Star Colin Woodell Reportedly Joins ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Things are starting to heat up ahead of the holidays for Daredevil: Born Again. Following the news that Michael Gandolfini’s role in the upcoming streaming series was confirmed, insider Daniel RPK has shared word that Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant, The Purge) has joined the series as a yet unidentified villain.

Woodell’s character looks to be set for just a portion of the 18-episode series but is also set to play a fairly significant role. Described as “intense and inscrutable”, it’s possible that Woodell could be portraying Muse, a serial killer who uses his victims’ blood and body parts to create art. The character was first introduced in Charles Soule’s run on Daredevil, which is believed to be one source of inspiration for Daredevil: Born Again.

Muse would make for a fascinating villain in Born Again should they do a little maneuvering with the origins of his powers. In the comics, Muse is a bit of a sensory black hole and thus becomes incredibly hard for Daredevil to pinpoint early on. Should Marvel Studios be so inclined, they could potentially tie the origin of Muse’s powers to Daredevil’s. Star Charlie Cox has teased the potential for Born Again to retell the origin story of the hero and tying Muse’s origin to it might be one reason to do so.

Daredevil: Born Again is tentatively set to stream on Disney Plus in 2024.

  • CONFIRMED: Michael Gandolfini Boards ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

CONFIRMED: Michael Gandolfini Boards ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

A day after rumors circulated that Michael Gandolfini had joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again, the news has been confirmed by Deadline. At the time of the rumor, we speculated that the actor could potentially be playing an up-and-coming mafioso, as his character was described as “an ambitious and earnest risk-taker with a very Staten Island-esque persona.” Unfortunately, Deadline was unable to reveal much else regarding his role, although they did suggest his character’s name might be Liam.

Gandolfini, of course, is perhaps best known for being the son of the late James Gandolfini. The young actor portrayed the younger version of his father’s most iconic character, Tony Soprano, in The Many Saints of Newark. He has since appeared in the Paramount+ limited series The Offer, the feature film Cherry and is next set to appear in Apple TV+’s Extrapolations.

Gandolfini is the first new cast member to be announced for the series. Casting is said to be underway, with the show reportedly looking to cast an actress for the role of White Tiger. Rumors have suggested Jenna Ortega has landed the role, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Daredevil: Born Again will star Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. The series, which will consist of 18 episodes, is set to begin production in New York next year for a 2024 release.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Reportedly Adds Michael Gandolfini

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Reportedly Adds Michael Gandolfini

Daredevil: Born Again is preparing to head into production in February and amid rumors of street-level heroes such as White Tiger appearing in the show, comes a very interesting addition to the cast. According to insider Daniel RPK, Michael Gandolfini has landed a role in the streaming series.

The 23-year-old Gandolfini made a name for himself by playing a young Tony Soprano, a role previously held by his later father, James, in HBO’s The Many Saints of Newark. Gandolfini doesn’t have many credits to his name as his acting career only began in earnest following his father’s death in 2013. He recently had a role in the Jodie Turner-Smith and John Cena film The Independent and will next be seen in the Joaquin Phoenix film, Disappointment Blvd.

Gandolfini’s role in Daredevil: Born Again has not been revealed but we can add that his character is described as an ambitious and earnest risk-taker with a very Staten Island-esque persona. Given that description, it’s possible Gandolfini is playing an up-and-coming mafioso, given the island’s ongoing reputation as a home for organized crime. Should that be the case, one intriguing possibility for the role could be Richard Fisk, the son of Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. Richard has often been a thorn in his father’s side and has often tried to take his place atop organized crime.
