SWCA: David Tennant to Reprise Huyang Role in ‘Ahsoka’

The second day of the Star Wars Celebration has kicked off with its first big panel all about Star Wars‘ next major release, Ahsoka. The Disney+ series will seemingly act as a direct sequel to the original Star Wars Rebels animated series, as many iconic characters like Sabine and Hera are set to return. Now, it seems that we also have the confirmation that Huyang will once again be voiced by David Tennant.

While no details have been shared on how he’ll factor into the story or if we’ll see a lot more of Huyang, the panel did at least share with us a first look at the character who looks quite true to his animated counterpart. Of course, it is easier to bring a CG droid into live-action than an alien that requires a real person behind it. Still, it’s great to know he’ll be back and hearing Tennant voicing the character is always a joy.

David Tennant Spotted in Newly Leaked ‘Doctor Who’ Set Photos

Shortly after the announcement dropped that not only will David Tennant return to Doctor Who alongside Catherine Tate, we’ve already gotten our first look at his Doctor on the set for the new season. What stands out is that we see him alongside the 13th’s TARDIS, which may hint at it possibly being the 10th Doctor catching up with Jodie Whitaker’s version or he may actually be an in-between regeneration before Ncuti Gatwa takes on the role. The photos are shared by Twitter user @_PigginTeaBreak.

There’s also another shot featuring Tennant in a new coat, or it may just be a better close-up of the one he was wearing, which was obscured due to the distance the photos were taken, as shared by @BadWolfArchives.

There’s a lot we don’t know yet about what the new season of Doctor Who will have in store for us. It almost seems like it’ll be a crossover of multiple versions of the Doctor meeting each other, similar to the 50th anniversary. yet, they could also take it into a different direction and Tennant becomes an in-between version where he returns to an identity of an older version of himself. While it’s not something that has been done before, it would create a unique position for this new generation of Doctor to switch between older versoins of himself.

  • RUMOR: David Tennant May Return to ‘Doctor Who’ As The 14th Doctor

RUMOR: David Tennant May Return to ‘Doctor Who’ As The 14th Doctor

We’ll have to take this with quite the grain of salt, but here’s a curious rumor that is making the rounds. Doctor Who has been struggling as of late even with Jodie Whittaker of fresh air. Still, we learned in September that Russell T. Davies would make his return as the series showrunner for the 60th anniversary. If the new rumor is to believe, he’ll be joined by another familiar face, as David Tennant may have been recast as a new version of the Doctor. You read that correctly, he isn’t returning as the Tenth Doctor but rather the next reincarnation of the Timelord.

If this does turn out to be true, Tennant would be the first actor to play two different versions of the Doctor. His original run was from 2005 until 2010 and worked alongside Davies, which adds some potential to the rumored return. The timing of such a curious move might be fitting with the 60th anniversary of the franchise. It’s uncertain just how the next regeneration might take place, which leaves the door open to potentially “choose” the next body.

Supposedly, Whittaker has already filmed her regeneration sequence. So, it’s more a question of time before we find out who is taking over for the 14th Doctor. Supposedly the rumor is hinting that this is just a temporary occasion before a 16th version takes over once the 60th anniversary ends. It seems also fitting with Tennant having played two versions of the Doctor in 2008’s “Journey’s End.” So, perhaps this might end up getting retroactively connected to the upcoming specials.
