  • Frank Grillo Joins ‘Creature Commandos’ as Rick Flag Sr

Frank Grillo Joins ‘Creature Commandos’ as Rick Flag Sr

Earlier this month, Frank Grillo doubted his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but hinted at a possible future at DC. That has since been confirmed thanks to The Wrap. According to the outlet, Grillo has been cast as Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos. The animated series will help to kick off the newly launched DC Studios and will be a part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

James Gunn, who now runs DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, wrote all seven episodes of Creature Commandos. It is based on the comic series of the same name and will include Rick Flag Sr., Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Frankenstein’s Monster, G.I. Robot, The Bride and Weasel. Sean Gunn who played Weasel in The Suicide Squad will reprise the role for the animated series. Per Gunn, the series is being cast with the intention of having the actors portray the roles in live-action projects, too.

Grillo, of course, played the role of Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Outside of the MCU, the actor has starred in projects such as Kingdom, The Purge: Anarchy, Billions, and Beyond Skyline.

Creature Commandos is said to be in production now for a release sometime in 2024.

    • James Gunn Reveals When to Expect Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’

James Gunn Reveals When to Expect Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’

The HBO Max streaming series Peacemaker was one of the surprise hits of 2022. Spinning out of James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad, the series followed John Cena‘s titular character as he once again teamed up with Amanda Waller and A.R.G.U.S. to stop Project Butterfly. Even as Gunn took a new role as the co-chair of DC Studios and looks to start with a clean slate, a second season of Peacemaker remained on the slate though how it will transition into the new DCU continuity remains to be seen.

Needless to say, Gunn is a very busy man these days. Not only is he helping Peter Safran to create and oversee the projects in Chapter 1 of the new DCU, titled Gods and Monsters but he’s also writing and directing Superman: Legacy, one of the most anticipated projects on the slate. With all that going on, fans have begun to question when Gunn will find time for the second season of Peacemaker. As is his way, Gunn took to Twitter to answer those questions.

While talking about the upcoming Gods and Monsters slate, Gunn indicated that Season 2 of Peacemaker won’t be released until after Superman: Legacy. Interestingly enough, production on the second season of the streaming series was reported to be planned to take place after Gunn wrapped his press responsibilities for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which means it may sit in the can for quite some time before release.

    • ‘Blue Beetle’ Gets First Trailer, Official Synopsis

‘Blue Beetle’ Gets First Trailer, Official Synopsis

Despite the turnover at the top of the studio, DC’s Blue Beetle will release on August 18th. Audiences got their first look at the film in an exciting trailer and now a new synopsis provides a better idea of what to expect from the film by director Angel Manuel Soto.

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. Blue Beetle stars Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes/Blue Bettle with Raoul Max Trujillo starring as the film’s villain, Carapax. Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Belissa Escobedo and George Lopez are all featured as members of Jaime’s family.

    • Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Spotted at Iconic ‘Joker’ Location in Latest BTS Pics

Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Spotted at Iconic ‘Joker’ Location in Latest BTS Pics

Joaquin Phoenix‘s romp down the Shakespeare Avenue Stairs located in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in 2019’s Joker turned the location into a destination. Now referred to as “The Joker Stairs”, the 132 stairs have become a must-see landmark in the city for fans of the film. Director Todd Phillips remained fairly fond of them, too, as a new batch of set photos from the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, indicates that the film will return to the iconic location.

As production has been ongoing in and around New York City, set photos have been fairly easy to come by, including a first look at star Lady Gaga in full Harley Quinn regalia. While she’s not decked out in one of Harley’s familiar outfits here, Lady Gaga‘s Harley is out for a stroll on the same stairs Arthur Fleck danced down in Joker.

Harley’s trek on the stairs certainly looks a little less joyful than Fleck’s gleeful descent. That’s all part of whatever director Todd Phillips, who can be seen chatting it up with Lady Gaga, has in store for the character in this particular part of the sequel.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released on October 4th, 2024 under DC Studios’ new Elseworlds banner, meaning the story told within the film will not be part of the continuity of the new DC Universe being established by DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Set in the aftermath of the events of Joker, the sequel will see Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener join Lady Gaga as newcomers to the cast alongside returnees Phoenix and Zazie Beetz.

    • Mike Flanagan Has Pitched a ‘Clayface’ Movie to DC Studios

Mike Flanagan Has Pitched a ‘Clayface’ Movie to DC Studios

Mike Flanagan, who has developed some of the biggest shows for Netflix in recent years (Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club), has reportedly pitched a new movie to DC Studios. According to Deadline, Flanagan is said to have pitched a Clayface movie to Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios. The project, as of now, is only a pitch, something Flanagan stressed on Twitter. However, should the project move forward, it’s said Clayface would not be a bad guy in the film, despite his comic history as a supervillain.

      https://twitter.com/flanaganfilm/status/1641164300525113344?s=20

Deadline has also noted that Clayface could actually make an appearance in Matt ReevesThe Batman 2. The outlet does note that scripts are “constantly changing,” however, the character is said to be a big addition to that project. Of course, the Clayface potentially introduced in Reeves’ movie wouldn’t necessarily be the same one used in DC Studios’ Chapter One, as it’s currently unclear where Reeves’ universe falls in that world as it is.

As of now, Flanagan’s involvement with a Clayface project seems to be in the very, very early stages. Flanagan has shown interest in the past regarding working on a Clayface project, so it’s not entirely surprising that he’s pitched the potential film to DC Studios, whether or not the studio opts to move forward with his pitch remains to be seen.

    • Leaked Set Photos of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Provide First Look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn

Leaked Set Photos of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Provide First Look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn

Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to 2019’s megahit, Joker, has been in production for some time and quite a few interesting photos and videos have leaked from the set. Lady Gaga, who joined the cast as Harleen Quinzel, has been captured on set a few times but not as her alter ego, Harley Quinn…until now.

A new batch of photos and a video show Lady Gaga in her full, spectacular Harley Quinn look accompanied by a whole bunch of Gotham’s finest.

A set video shows the character being escorted through a rowdy crowd, many of whom seem to be there rallying in support of the Joker.

Given that several of the members of the crowd are either in Joker masks or full Joker makeup, not to mention the sign someone made asking Joker to marry them, it would appear that Joaquin Phoenix‘s Arthur Fleck has become a cult hero in Gotham following the events of Joker. That film ended with Fleck in Arkham Asylum, where it’s expected he will meet Lady Gaga’s character. A recent video from the set of the film shows what is widely accepted as the asylum burning as the duo escapes.

Joker: Folie à Deux, which will be a musical in parts, will be released at part of the new DC Studio’s Elseworlds banner on October 4, 2024.

    • First Look at Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone from the Set of ‘The Penguin’

First Look at Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone from the Set of ‘The Penguin’

The HBO Max streaming series The Penguin will see Colin Farrell suit back up as Oz Cobblepot and navigate a Gotham in chaos following the events of 2022’s The Batman. It’s been reported that the series will take place almost immediately after the final act of The Batman and a new batch of set photos may prove just that.

The new photos not only provide the first clear look at Cristin Milioti‘s Sofia Falcone but also seem to be taken outside of a church. Sofia’s father, Gotham crime boss Carmine Falcone, was murdered in The Batman so it’s possible the scene filmed today is his funeral. The photos also seem to confirm that Berto Colon has joined the cast as an associate of Falcone’s.

Farrell was on set for the potential funeral as well. Given Cobblepot’s less than stellar opinion of Falcone and his involvement with him on the night of his death, it’s safe to assume he won’t be getting along well with Sofia and her brother Alberto, played by Michael Zegan.

The Penguin currently has no time table for release but should be ready to stream by mid-2024.

    • ‘The Batman-Part II’ Rumored to Include a Surprising Return Character

‘The Batman-Part II’ Rumored to Include a Surprising Return Character

Paul Dano‘s Edward Nashton drove Robert Pattinson‘s Batman to the edge in 2022’s The Batman; ultimately, the World’s Greatest Detective discovers the endgame of Nashton’s riddles and nabs Carmine Falcone. Of course, as Riddler is “captured” and shipped off to Arkham, Batman discovers too late the secondary plan to flood Gotham and wash away its history of corruption. While Batman was able to intervene to some extent, Riddler’s extravagant plan was a success and Gotham will certainly be in all manner of disarray when it’s next seen in the HBO Max series The Penguin and again in 2025’s The Batman-Part II.

Set to film in late 2023, little is known about Matt ReevesThe Batman-Part II. It survived the great purge when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC and formed DC Studios and will be released under that studio’s new Elseworlds banner which means the stories developed by Reeves will take place outside of the DCU’s main continuity. What story is The Batman-Part II going to tell? There are plenty of rumors out there but the truth is nobody knows what Reeves has in mind; however, a new rumor from a reliable insider might at least give fans an idea of who some of the key players will be in the new chapter.

According to Daniel RPK, both Colin Farrell and Paul Dano will reprise their respective roles in 2025’s The Batman-Part II. To be sure, most everyone probably expected Farrell’s Oz to return; the streaming series The Penguin is set in the immediate aftermath of the events in The Batman and looks to be diving into the turmoil unleashed in the criminal underworld of Gotham following the death of Carmine Falcone. Dano’s return, however, might come as much more of a surprise, especially given the breakdown he suffered in the film’s closing moments.

With all the talk of Mr. Freeze somehow being incorporated into the sequel, a return by the Riddler might not be exactly what fans are hoping for. Of course, Dano’s return doesn’t mean he’ll play a major role or be the primary antagonist once again, especially as Reeves looks to build Batman’s Rogues Gallery throughout the different projects set within his Gotham-verse. Given there are over two years until The Batman-Part II hits theaters on October 3, 2025, this is just the first turn of the rumor mill for the cast of the film.

    • Ben Affleck Addresses Rumors He’ll Direct DC Studios ‘The Brave and The Bold’

Ben Affleck Addresses Rumors He’ll Direct DC Studios ‘The Brave and The Bold’

Shortly after James Gunn announced part of the lineup of the DCU’s Chapter 1-Gods and Monsters, rumors began to swirl that while Ben Affleck‘s days of portraying Batman on screen were done, there was mutual interest in having Affleck direct a project. Before long, a rumor surfaced that had Affleck on a shortlist to direct DC Studios The Brave and The Bold, which would introduce a new Batman and his son, Damian, the new DCU. The rumor was believable enough: Affleck likes Batman and Gunn, who is always actively dispelling rumors on social media, didn’t address it. Now, Affleck has made his thoughts known on the rumor.

I would not direct something for the Gunn DC. Absolutely not,” said Affleck when asked by THR about the possibility of helming a DC Studios project. “I have nothing against James Gunn,” Aflleck clarified, “Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.

Affleck didn’t clarify what “the way they’re doing that meant” leaving plenty of room for interpretation for rabid fans who’ll want to read into his comments; however, the only real news here is that Affleck’s superhero days, which date back to 2003’s Daredevil, seem to be behind him and that Gunn’s search for a director for The Brave and the Bold will continue.

    • James Gunn Confirms He’ll Direct ‘Superman: Legacy’; Synopsis Revealed

James Gunn Confirms He’ll Direct ‘Superman: Legacy’; Synopsis Revealed

From the moment he revealed he was writing the new DC Studios’Superman film, Superman: Legacy, it seemed all but a sure thing that James Gunn would also direct. Now, it has made it official. In a thread on Twitter, Gunn confirmer he’d be behind the camera for the film.

Gunn’s Superman: Legacy isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until July 11, 2025 but Warner Bros. released the first synopsis of the project today to accompany the news.

Superman Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned

The film will be, to some extent, an adaptation of All-Star Superman,a twelve-issue series by Grant Morrison that ran from 2005-08.
