Disney+ Not Moving Forward with ‘National Treasure’ Season 2

Disney+ has decided not to move forward with a second season for the National Treasure spinoff show, Edge of History. Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature tried to grow the classic film franchise that starred Nicolas Cage. Lisette Olivera headlined the series opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and even starred some original cast members from the films.

It’s a shame to see the series not move forward, as it was a unique offering giving the streaming service a unique project with an adventure vibe. Many have hoped to also see Nicolas Cage return to the role of Benjamin Franklin Gates in an upcoming season. Still, there’s always the opportunity that they may try to bring back the franchise as a theatrical release given it’s a well-established IP.

Disney+ has recently been on a canceling spree, as they’ve let go of series like Big Shot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Diary of a Future President, Turner & Hooch, as well as the Mysterious Benedict Society. It’s unclear if this is due to a lack of viewership or also the streaming service reducing its focus on streaming spend given the new direction for Disney’s future investments.

  • SWCE: ‘Tales of the Jedi’ Will Return for Season 2

SWCE: ‘Tales of the Jedi’ Will Return for Season 2

Star Wars Celebration is the event that keeps on giving, as another piece of news has arrived that Tales of the Jedi is set to receive a second season. The announcement came from its creator Dave Filoni, who has slowly taken over a larger and larger role in supervising the future of the franchise. Not only is he set to direct a film that’ll culminate all the series that spun out of The Mandalorian, but generally continues his work on the animated entries of the franchise.

He jokingly only stated that the animated anthology series “was so fun the first time, I decided to do some more” during the panel on the 15th anniversary of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There are no details on what the next season will focus on, as the first one consisted of six episodes that split the story between Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku’s early days.

There’s a chance we might get to spend some more time with familiar Jedi from the franchise’s past, but it does seem his focus remains with those from The Clone Wars era. It would be great if they use this anthology series to potentially add some depth to our favorites from the sequel era, especially now that Daisy Ridley is set to return in the near future with a new sequel to the sequel trilogy.

  • ‘Werewolf by Night’s Gael Garcia Bernal Never Auditioned for the Disney+ Special

‘Werewolf by Night’s Gael Garcia Bernal Never Auditioned for the Disney+ Special

It’s no denying that Gael Garcia Bernal is a major get for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many wondered just how he ended up getting a role in a Universal/Hammer-inspired monster flick for Disney. As it turns out, he was actually offered the role directly by long-time Marvel composer and now director, Michael Giacchino. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Werewolf by Night actor reveals how he got the role for the series and what it was like joining the Marvel family.

It was a direct invitation from [director-composer] Michael Giacchino, and I immediately said yes. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to interpret this character. There are a lot of tangents and a lot of places that this character or this world can lead to. So as soon as Michael told me what he wanted to do and the way he wanted to approach it, I said, “Yeah, let’s do this!” So it’s been great, and I feel really lucky to be in this world of Marvel because of their know-how and infrastructure. We also got to try things out and experiment. So we were taken care of, and I can’t wait to do more with this great opportunity.

The actor also highlighted how having his friend, fellow Disney actor Diego Luna, join him on this journey. He highlighted how he was a great support during his time at D23 when they announced the Werewolf by Night Special Presentation.

When we were at the D23 conference, he was the one who explained to me what was happening because it was my first time. It was quite crazy. But it was fascinating to be around all these other projects and people, and doing a press conference and press junket, in a sense, with all these different films and TV series was incredible. I wish all premieres were like that where the films and series are combined. So it’s been great to have a good friend who’s also living something similar as well.

    Diego Luna

Perhaps this might open the doors to Luna also crossing into a new franchise as he’s set to wrap his work on Andor‘s second and final season next year. With more monsters making the rounds within the MCU, perhaps he could join the horror side of the franchise and have these two actors reunite on screen. Of course, we don’t know yet what the future has in store for Bernal in the MCU and hopefully, it won’t be too long before we find out.

  • ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ Set to Premiere with a Single Episode

‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ Set to Premiere with a Single Episode

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is the next Marvel Studios streaming series headed for Disney Plus, with its August 17th premiere just around the corner. Like Marvel Studios’ first streaming series, WandaVision, She-Hulk consists of nine episodes; unlike WandaVision, however, She-Hulk will not make its debut with multiple episodes.

According to an official Disney release, She-Hulk will debut with a single episode on August 17th, meaning it will likely have a nine-week run that will conclude on October 12th. Other than WandaVision, only Hawkeye, which was released during the holiday season, has premiered to more than one episode.

It is expected that their will be a heavy dose of She-Hulk at SDCC ’22, including a new trailer for the series and an appearance by several cast members. Tatiana Maslany leads the series as Jen Walters/She-Hulk, the cousin of Bruce Banner who gains some of the powers of the Hulk after a blood transfusion. Ginger Gonzaga, Jameela Jamil and Charlie Cox are among the supporting cast of the show, which will be a legal comedy reminiscent of Ally McBeal, among others

  • Disney+’s ‘Beauty and The Beast’ Prequel Series On Indefinite Hold

Disney+’s ‘Beauty and The Beast’ Prequel Series On Indefinite Hold

These past few years have seen Disney go all-in on bringing some of their most classic stories to life in live-action. In 2017, they once again brought Beauty and The Beast to life, which had an all-star cast consisting of Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad. The film was quite the hit, and audiences especially loved Evans and Gad as Gaston and Lefou. As such, a prequel series has been in development for the two and it has recently added multiple cast members. Sadly, it seems like they made some announcements a bit too soon.

It is being reported that the Disney+ Beauty and The Beast Prequel series has been put on indefinite hold at the streamer. The project was met with multiple issues including scheduling issues with the cast as well production issues that saw its start date pushed back so that it may be able to film in better weather. It seems there have also been creative differences amongst the creatives on the project.

The project received an eight-episode order back in June of 2021 and just recently cast Rita Ora, Fra Fee, and Jelani Alladin. With so many things not lining up, Disney opted to put the project on hold. Both Gad and Evans have a slew of projects in the pipeline that they’ll be working on that would clash with the production timeline. While the project is not dead it may be a while before it can pick itself up off the ground and get going.

  • RUMOR: First Hints at ‘Ironheart’s Potential Main Villains

RUMOR: First Hints at ‘Ironheart’s Potential Main Villains

Marvel Studios is continuing its expansion into Disney+ after a successful first year. Of course, there are quite a few projects in some form of development including the live-action debut of Riri Williams in the Ironheart series. The character is a rather new addition to the Marvel universe and made many wonders what we might expect from her original series. A new rumor is making the rounds that may be our first real hint at who she may be facing.

Some time ago, there were hints that the upcoming project would include Obediah Stane’s child, whose characterization may be inspired by Sam Rockwell‘s portrayal of Justin Hammer. In addition, it seems that the show’s main antagonist might have found its way online as well, as they shared a description hinting at his character being “charming, magnetic, slick, and oily.” What stands out is that he’ll have a “crew” which could hint at a gang leader of some sort.

Illuminerdi believes this description might be a fitting choice for the villain known as Parker Robbins, who works for a crime syndicate and ends up with a magical cloak. It gives him abilities to upgrade his game, but also ended up with him facing off against various heroes and even the Avengers. Of course, with Riri’s tech focus, it’s uncertain if they might also change his origins a bit if it ends up being Robbins, but the magical element would add an interesting twist to the story. Production hasn’t started yet and elements can still change. So, we’ll see how things develop.

  • New ‘Hawkeye Funko Pops Unveiled for Kate and Clint Revealed

New ‘Hawkeye Funko Pops Unveiled for Kate and Clint Revealed

Always wanted to get into the Christmas spirit with the perfect ugly sweaters? So did Kate Bishop and Clint Barton did in the latest episode of Hawkeye. While one would expect a Yelena Belova-inspired Funko given her return at the end of the episode, but Funko was embracing the Christmas spirit and shared two new Funkos of our favorite new duo in their Holiday outfits, as they took some time to unwind. And yes, Clint even has his Grumpy Cat print on the sweater.

The designs are great, but, strangely, they wouldn’t want to bank on the return of a popular character from Black Widow. Her new suit probably won’t appear again with the iconic Sam Fisher-inspired look, as teased by some of the other trailers. So, they might add one in a more iconic look for the character later on. Of course, they might also release multiple sets this time around, and are keeping it alongside another new reveal with a certain “uncle.” Interestingly, Kate has the most amount of Funko Pops in the collection, but given the focus, she gets in the series it makes sense she’ll get highlighted quite a bit. Plus, she goes through the most looks in the series.
