SWCA: Lucasfilm Executive Promises More Anime Like ‘Star Wars Visions’

Star Wars Celebration is winding down, but there’s still one more event currently going on and that is the special panel on Star Wars Visions. We’ve long hoped for an update on what the future has in store for the franchise, and luckily Lucasfilm executive James Waugh confirmed that there will definitely be more anime in the future of the Star Wars franchise. When he was asked if we’ll see more like Visions, he didn’t yet say anything about a second season but that there’s a bright future ahead for anime and Star Wars.

SWCA: First Footage Description for ‘The Bad Batch’ Season 2

Star Wars Celebration is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any highlights on the last day. After quite a bit of silence on the second season of The Bad Batch, they finally showed off some of it during its panel at the event. Our very own Hunter Radesi was lucky enough to get in and share some of the footage he got to witness and share what was shown off. The following footage description is from the show’s premiere episode.

Some time has seemingly gone by since we last spent time with the Clone Troopers. Omega has aged and they have a new look as well. Their armor is now grey with some orange thrown in. Omega is playing at the beach while Tech reprimands her to focus on her studies. Suddenly, the other members are being chased by a giant crab monster. While they try to shoot at it, Omega gets caught between it and their ship. She shoots a few perfect shots with her bow and seemingly takes the beast down.

  • SWCA: Jon Favreau Already Started Writing ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4

SWCA: Jon Favreau Already Started Writing ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4

Star Wars Celebration is still ongoing and it looks like Jon Favreau may have confirmed that while we’re months away from The Mandalorian‘s Season 3 to release, they’re already started work on a fourth season. In an interview with CinemaBlend, he talked about where they currently are with working on these series as Dave Filoni has moved on to focus on the Ahsoka series. While discussing it, he gave away that he’s already started writing on Season 4 of the Disney+ series.

With television, we’re very lucky that we don’t have to rush things through into an hour-and-a-half, two hours. We get to tell stories slowly. So now, as Dave [Filoni]’s doing Ahsoka, it’s very much informing the writing that I’m doing for [The Mandalorian] Season 4. It becomes – how should I put it – more precise.

    Jon Favreau

It’s surprising that he may have already started work on it, but we did hear that Favreau has a tendency to write these projects even before getting a confirmation. The initial pitch for the series he started working on before he even got the green light to work on it. So, he may have just put down some ideas and wants to make sure he doesn’t lose them.

It’s great to know that the series continues as it’s the only series on Disney+ that’s been running for multiple seasons like this. Marvel Studios generally goes for ongoing mini-series with the exception of Loki. So, it’s nice to have a project that continues to be a staple for the streaming service.

SWCA: Beloved ‘Rebels’ Characters Confirmed for ‘Ahsoka’

The “+” portion of Mando + Panel at Star Wars Celebration turned out to be quite a treat for fans. After getting a full trailer for Season 3 of The Mandalorian, attention turned to the upcoming live-action Ahsoka series, which is currently in production. To the excitement of the crowd, it was confirmed that 3 fan-favorites (in addition to Ezra Bridger) from the animated Rebels series would make their live-action debuts in Ahsoka.

Rebel leader Hera Syndulla, her loyal droid Chopper and Mandalorian Sabine Wren will all appear in the show when it streams in 2023. In addition to Chopper making an appearance on the stage, actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who was linked to the role of Sabine in November, made her way on stage to join star Rosario Dawson. No casting was revealed for the roles of Hera or Ezra.

Ahsoka is set to continue the tale of Ahsoka Tano, one time Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, who left the Jedi order and became a major figure in the Rebellion against the Empire. The series is expected to follow her as she attempts to locate Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, who were last seen disappearing into hyperspace in the series finale of Rebels.

SWCA: Rick Famuyiwa Now an Executive Producer on ‘The Mandalorian’s Season 3

It looks like The Mandalorian’s upcoming third season has received an upgrade to its team. While Jon Favreau remains the lead on The Mandalorian, it was the team of talented directors that he got together that defined the project as one of Star Wars‘ most creative and grounded within the original era. Now, it seems that Rick Famuyiwa, who directed some iconic films like Confirmation and Dope, is now joining the project as an executive producer. He worked on some episodes such as “The Child,” “The Prisoner,” and “The Believer.”

  • Grace VanderWall on the Challenge of Writing an Original Song for ‘Hollywood Stargirl’

Grace VanderWall on the Challenge of Writing an Original Song for ‘Hollywood Stargirl’

Grace VanderWall had a lot of weight on her, as not only was she taking the leading role this time around in Hollywood Stargirl, but she also had the challenge of creating a completely unique song for the film. It’s not the first time as she also made one for the first, but this time around she actually had an “assignment” to prepare one and it looks like it caught her by surprise initially, as she talks about the experience during the Disney+ film’s press conference.

I’ve never done that. I’ve never, like, been asked to write anything about anything before. Like, I’ve never had, like, maybe an assignment is the wrong word. But, like, an assignment. So I was really nervous because I was like, “Oh god, everyone thinks I can do this. And I’ve, like, never done it before.” But it worked out. I did it. And it was easy. But yeah, it was really, really fun. I was so honored that I got to write a song for the movie again. Because I love writing and I love the movie and it was fun.

    Grace VanderWall

She also highlighted that her biggest challenge was including Elijah Richardson in the song, but he wasn’t cast at the time she was working on the project. So, she started work on it very early in the production process, which added a unique challenge but she still managed to add a memorable song to the film.

  • Bryce Dallas Howard Confirmed to Direct an Episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

Bryce Dallas Howard Confirmed to Direct an Episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

In a surprising twist that probably everyone saw coming, Bryce Dallas Howard is returning to direct an episode of The Mandalorian‘s upcoming third season. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed what was first hinted at by Discussing Film’s Jacob Fisher back in January. Howard has become quite popular as someone to take on a film in the franchise after bringing some of the franchise’s best episodes to life. This makes her fourth episode, as she worked on the first two seasons with “Sanctuary” and “The Heiress.” Though she made quite the impact with her work on The Book of Boba Fett‘s “Return of the Mandalorian.”

It’s unclear if she may also be tackling an episode of the upcoming Ahsoka spinoff series, but THR can confirm that a “handful” of episodes will be tackled by director Dave Filoni, who made his mark on the franchise with his work on The Clone Wars. It’s unclear if it may also act more like an in-between season for Din Djarin’s story, who kind of took over Boba Fett’s after a few episodes.

Howard has become quite a popular choice to work on quite a few different projects, as she’s also Colin Trevorrow‘s pick to tackle a Jurassic World film. So, it’s clear that she has nothing to worry about in the future as she’s a fan pick for many to tackle some massive franchises. So, it’ll be exciting to see where her future will be and what other directing jobs she might be interested in taking.
