‘The Flash’ Director Won’t Recast Ezra Miller in Possible Sequel

The hype surrounding The Flash is a troubled one. While the film has been in development hell for quite some time, Andy Muschietti is finally going to reveal it to the world in just a few more weeks. Yet, the discussion surrounding its leading star, Ezra Miller, has left some questioning his future as the iconic hero.

In 2020, the actor made headlines due to choking a woman before it started going to new questionable levels in 2022. Miller was stated to be in treatment for “complex mental health issues” and is completely absent from the film’s promotional run. Yet, Muschietti believes that they are the only one right to play Barry Allen.

If [a sequel] happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.

His wife and co-producer, Barbara Muschietti, also highlights Miller’s role during filming and highlighting that he was “the most committed” actor on set to bring the different variations of Barry to life.

In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.

It’s hard to say what people will take away from the film and if Miller will still stick around once the new era of the DC Cinematic Universe kicks off under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s management. Warner Bros. Discovery has put all its money into this film’s box office and we’ll see if it’ll manage to do just that once it finally releases next month.

  • Ezra Miller Films Pickup Shots for ‘The Flash’

Ezra Miller Films Pickup Shots for ‘The Flash’

It has been confirmed that Ezra Miller has returned last week to the Warner Bros. Studio lot to film some pickup shots for 2023’s The Flash. This news comes after a long saga of various troubling reports involving the actor and their actions that ranged from perplexing to potentially severely dangerous to others. Miller had a meeting in August with Warner Bros. representatives, which is said to have been productive in terms of the future of the film’s ability to release.

They have issued apologies for their actions and have begun treatment for “complex mental health issues” after rumors began to circulate that this might lead to the outright cancellation of The Flash. The Andy Muschietti-directed film is set to adapt the Flashpoint comic storyline with Barry Allen’s multiversal traverses leaving rippling consequences across the DC Universe. One key element of this involves the return of Michael Keaton as Batman from his film franchise of the late 1980s and early 1990s alongside Ben Affleck’s reprisal of Bruce Wayne from the current universe.

It has been one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets that this film is set to serve as a partial reset point for DC’s cinematic landscape. This is something that many have argued is certainly necessary with the remnants of the Snyderverse preventing a new identity to be formed in a meaningful way. According to various sources, it has been said that The Flash may be exactly what DC needs based on how well the film has been performing with test audiences.

As of now, The Flash still intends to release despite the swirling controversies around it. The film is currently scheduled to release theatrically on June 23, 2023.

Ezra Miller Met With Warner Bros. Executives to Ensure ‘The Flash’ Isn’t Scrapped

DC and Warner Bros. Discovery are in the headlines for many different reasons. While mostly the reception to whatever WB is currently up to has been quite negative, the drama surrounding Ezra Miller wasn’t helping. After scandals started piling on, many feared or wondered what exactly the future has in store for the long-in-development The Flash film. As it turns out, Miller has now had a sit-down with the studio executives to discuss everything that has been going on.

There are no exact details on what was discussed in the meeting, but given the recent circumstances, it’s not hard to imagine. They sat down with executives Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca joined by their agent, who recently took over the motion picture division from Toby Emmerich. As many different issues are coming together and a project with a massive budget of $250M is on the line, there’s a lot to ensure.

It seems that the potential scrapping of the project has also pushed Miller to seek help, which is a good sign and shows how committed they are to the character. It seems this was the first time they’ve talked since they took over the division especially as the film is still in its post-production stage. Warner Bros. Discovery believes in the project as it has tested as high as Christopher Nolan‘s Batman films, which is definitely something they are striving to ensure makes its way into theaters. So, here’s hoping everything works out moving forward.
