‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Leak Confirmed, Among Gaming’s Biggest

It’s been a heavy day for Rockstar Games, as one of their biggest upcoming releases has seemingly leaked, Grand Theft Auto 6. We don’t know what exactly led to it but it seemed unreal that so much footage would find its way online, as it seemingly is from the actual developers. It offered some first looks into the long-rumored game that’s been seemingly in development for quite some time.

To some degree, it just seemed surreal and many were uncertain if it was actual footage of an earlier version of the game. As it turns out, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has seemingly confirmed that this is indeed from an earlier build of Grand Theft Auto 6, which may be one of the biggest leaks in gaming history.

While some are excited about the first footage of the game, this isn’t something to really be excited about. Small hints or teases have become part of the overall way for the Internet to build up momentum but never to such a degree. It’s heavy for the first look to be an unlikely very early version of the game that is purely meant for the developers. Other devs like Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann have reached out to support Rockstar through these hard times.

It definitely should not be something to drag down the talented staff at Rockstar Games and discourage anyone from bringing their projects to life. Those that have spoken out about the quality and it being “unfinished” should also keep in mind that this is indeed the case. We have very little insight into the complexities of game development, and this is definitely not in any way the finished product as that would only be the case once Rockstar Games decided to actually reveal it to us on their own terms.

  • RUMOR: First ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Footage Potentially Leaks, Further Hints at Return to Vice City

RUMOR: First ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Footage Potentially Leaks, Further Hints at Return to Vice City

The Internet has always been unpredictable, especially in the day and age of leaks and scoopers rising in popularity. Still, gaming mainly was safe outside of small elements finding their way online such as skin leaks from Marvel’s Avengers. This time around, one of the biggest leaks may have happened as the first footage has found its way online from the long-rumored Grand Theft Auto 6. We still have to take it with a grain of salt but it’s certainly looking to be quite real given just how much has been revealed.

The game is seemingly going for a Bonnie and Clyde storyline, as the game features male and female protagonists, Jason and Lucia. It also is seemingly taking place in Vice City with some familiar locations teased like Malibu Club. Twitter user @Okami13_ has shared some of the details that were noticed in the footage provided online. There’s also a full video of a diner takeover that was seemingly leaked where the player takes control of Lucia.

This footage seems to be from a dev build and it’s unclear just how someone was able to get their hands on it. That isn’t the only footage, as @Who2Pitts has also shared what seems like a conversation between NPCs highlighting that this is indeed the dev version with a debug menu included.

If this turns out to be real, it’s definitely one of the biggest leaks we’ve seen in a while for a game this deep into development. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has seemingly also added fuel to the fire by pointing out that a lot that has leaked also connects with what he’s heard about the game, which includes two protagonists and Vice City as the main location. For now, we’ll have to see if Rockstar will make a statement in regards to these leaks eventually or if they might still keep a potential reveal a secret until it’s ready.

The game’s Steam page reveals what the game will be like and it seems it’s not quite the game one may have expected given the impressive teaser trailer.

  • New ‘Mafia’ Game Announced for its 20th Anniversary

New ‘Mafia’ Game Announced for its 20th Anniversary

It’s crazy to think how far the Mafia franchise has come. The Czech gaming franchise has made quite the splash internationally with a variety of entries and spinoffs, even as Hangar 13 took over and it started being published by 2K Games. The original studio of Illusion Softworks even changed its title to 2K Czech over the years, but the fundamentals still remain with the game exploring a Great Depression setting to this day.

The game originally started with Mafia back in 2002 before it spawned two sequels. In 2020, they released a “Definite Edition” of the original after Hangar 13 took over production of the third entry. The game even got two spinoffs, but it looks like a new numbered sequel is potentially making a return as revealed by Art Director of Mafia 2 who would go on to become Studio head General Manager, Roman Hladík. In an interview as part of the 20th anniversary, he revealed an all-new game is in development.

I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.

As the game is still in early development, it seems we’ll have to wait a little longer until we get any further details. It’ll be interesting to see fit this is an official fourth entry or perhaps a new game altogether that focuses on establishing a new spinoff to give the franchise a fresh start as it’s been quite some time since the third entry was released.

  • RUMOR: Amazon May Have Purchased Electronic Arts

RUMOR: Amazon May Have Purchased Electronic Arts

Here’s a shocker if it turns out to be true. According to GLHF (via USA Today), Electronic Arts may have been purchased by Amazon. Supposedly, the announcement would follow at some point today, which is perfect timing given how future games are being discussed during GamesCom throughout the week. There are no exact details yet but rumors have been making the rounds for some time that EA was looking for a buyer with Apple and Disney as other alternative buyers.

Amazon has long been trying to move into the gaming market with a stronger dominance and game adaptations have turned out quite successful for one of its main competitors, Netflix. The Witcher and Arcane are iconic franchises brought to life and EA’s library may open up plenty more opportunities for them to do the same. It also continues the trend of media markets being way more streamlined as even larger companies are facing quite a few troubles in the modern landscape.

Right now, there’s no confirmation that this purchase has taken place but it would definitely be a big move similar to how Microsoft recently purchased Bethesda for $7.5 billion. Investments are all the rage right now as many races to get their hands on the next major intellectual property. We’ll have to see how this potentially also influences EA’s future releases, especially their big titles like Madden, FIFA, Apex Legends, and more.

  • REVIEW: Offer Yourself To The ‘Cult of the Lamb’

REVIEW: Offer Yourself To The ‘Cult of the Lamb’

In Cult of the Lamb, the devil is in the details. Devolver Digital’s management simulator, where players assume the role of a sacrificial lamb who becomes the leader of a demonic cult, is an ambitious effort to marry the cutesy quirks of Animal Crossing with the comedic morbidity of a Sam Raimi movie. But the game sometimes comes across as overzealous, getting lost in a complicated economy and progression system and a roguelike element that feels like an afterthought. Nonetheless, its great mechanics, visuals, and humor make for a highly entertaining hybrid simulator.

The game is essentially divided into two parts: the management simulator and the dungeon-crawling roguelike. As the sacrificial lamb turned prophet for the demon The One Who Waits, the fire of the gospel must burn strong through the cult’s disciples. But as the prophet, it too falls on the lamb to slay the Four Heretics who have imprisoned the The One Who Waits.

Developers Massive Monster spares no expense in giving players a thorough religious experience. Nearly no stone is unturned as Cult of the Lamb incorporates many elements familiar to any churchgoer of any faith. As the leader of the congregation, the player’s job is to keep the cult afloat and rich. Not only do the disciples’ basic needs need to be met but they also must be kept happy and faithful.

Easily the best parts of the game are its mechanics. There’s a daily sermon that will modestly fill the cult’s faith meter. Over the course of the game, players will accumulate stone tablets that will serve as doctrines, the rules and beliefs that the cult must abide by. These doctrines are made of active and passive upgrades. The active upgrades, referred to as Rituals, are fun events you can trigger to give your disciples a stat boost.

Cult of the Lamb‘s greatest source of enjoyment is the variety of ways to torment and reward the congregation. Sadistic players will be glad to know that they can order their adorable disciples to eat their own poop, force them to fast, or sacrifice them to a Chtulu-like monster. There’s a funny ritual to let a disciple’s body and soul ascend to heaven — or so they think. There’s even a ritual to get everyone high on mushrooms. Dissenters can be imprisoned and humiliated to be made an example of. The variety of mechanics at the player’s disposal is surprisingly deep and is guaranteed to make every playthrough different.

But as fun as the management simulator element is, there’s redundancy in Cult of the Lamb‘s economy and progression system that may often lead to confusion. The terms used to label currencies do not come across as intuitive; devotion, loyalty, and faith are essentially synonyms but they serve different purposes in the game. Players may find themselves wondering which is which in the countless tutorial prompts that appear. In the game’s attempt to immerse players with tenets of religion, the economy and progression system is needlessly complicated.

The Crusades, the roguelike dungeon-crawler aspect, pales in comparison to the rest of the game. While it gives Cult of the Lamb a change of pace, its procedurally generated gameplay fails to remain challenging or engaging. Compared to the uniqueness of the cult builder, the Crusades feel very unremarkable. They serve as the primary way to advance the story as the lamb goes from realm to realm, slaying enemies. Maps are procedurally generated but have little to no difference. Along the way, resources and new followers are to be found. A random weapon and skill are given to the lamb at the start of each crusade. Players can acquire tarot cards to get temporary boosts in each map. Beyond any of these, it’s a very bare roguelike.

Where the Crusades redeems itself is in its combat. A mix of isometric hack-and-slash and bullet-hell, the combat is beautifully animated and, together with the sound design, has an almost addictive feeling to it. There’s a seamlessness and grace to every frame of animation. The incredibly simple controls are complimented by the game feel; hit stuns feel really heavy and give the combat a nice weight while the dodge button is responsive and sharp. Given the short nature of each crusade, which ranges from 5-10 minutes, the Crusades never feel boring.

As monstrous as this game allows players to be, at the heart of Cult of the Lamb are visuals that are full of life and wonder. The aesthetic is essentially that of a children’s book with its backgrounds and assets resembling pop-ups. Characters in the game are so expressively drawn. The demons are drawn in the same way children earnestly draw the nightmares they have on paper. They’re terrifying to look at but also inherently childish. It’s hard not to be ensnared by how vibrant everything looks and how well it comes together, even in the face of its minor flaws. In a widening sea of management and social simulators, Cult of the Lamb stands as one of the most creative and eccentric thanks to its core premise, devilish wit, and charm.

  • ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Faces Another Delay, May Not Release Until 2023

‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Faces Another Delay, May Not Release Until 2023

Well, it looks like the wait for Marvel and Firaxis’ upcoming tactical RPG, Midnight Suns, which offers a unique take on the iconic superhero gaming franchise will have o wait just a bit longer. Firaxis’ parent company, Take-Two, has revealed during an earnings call that they have decided to push back the upcoming game Midnight Suns once again. This delay makes it the second time the game has required more time to be worked on and the vague “later this fiscal year” has raised some eyebrows.

For those that might not know, a fiscal year isn’t the natural year that ends in 2022. In fact, the fiscal year for Take-Two doesn’t end until March 2023, which adds the potential delay could be until next year. Midnight Suns offers a promising look at Marvel’s mystical side with some familiar faces joining the fray to take on whatever threat is heading towards Earth.

Delays haven’t been too uncommon as of late, especially due to the nature of COVID making production cycles far less predictable. While some may not be happy to hear that the wait may be quite a bit longer, especially with a vague timeline given this time around, it does give the development team enough time to bring the project to life. In an industry plagued by crunch time, similarly to the VFX industry, this hopefully means the team also gets some time rather than continue having to push through endless hours.
