‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Adds ‘Crazy Rich Asian’s Star

It looks like one more cast member has arrived for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Deadline has revealed that Nico Santos of Crazy Rich Asians and Superstore fame will be joining the threequel. The plot for the third installment remains a mystery and there are no details on who he might be playing, but he’s joining a stacked cast that has added Will Poulter, Chuk Iwuji, Daniela Melchior, and Maria Bakalova in addition to the returning cast from the second entry.

The film is turning into quite a collection of talented actresses and actors. We still don’t know many details about the upcoming project, but it does seem more and more likely that they’ll explore the Halfworld storyline. We saw set pictures that revealed humanoid animals and even teased the arrival of the High Evolutionary. So, we’ll see if the actors are playing some familiar characters from Marvel lore, or even new additions.

There’s a lot of potential with the threequel, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is pretty much the end of James Gunn‘s run with the iconic space pirates. Recent cosmic storylines have started moving into different direction while still staying true to what Gunn set up and we’ll see where the future might be heading with the team as well.

  • ‘Borat’s Maria Bakalova Joins MCU’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ in Key Role

‘Borat’s Maria Bakalova Joins MCU’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ in Key Role

It looks like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm‘s Maria Bakalova has found her next major production, as she has joined Guardians of these Galaxy Vol. 3. The film has wrapped up production some time ago, and she’ll join the production. They also reveal that she isn’t the unannounced actor that was teased by director James Gunn some time ago.

As is tradition, her exact role has not been revealed. She’s not the only recent major addition, as we also heard that Daniela Melchior has joined the third Guardians film. With casting news making its way online, they may be preparing for whatever announcements could be heading our way in the second half of 2022. D23 and Disney+ Day are on the horizon. So, we may get more details soon.

It’s been great seeing Bakalova‘s journey from the breakout hit with the Borat sequel. The Bulgarian actress first started her work in local cinema before grabbing bigger productions such as appearing in Netflix’s The Bubble or Bodies Bodies Bodies. Joining the MCU may be the next major step in her career moving forward.

  • New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Crew Merch Teases a New Guardians Logo

New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Crew Merch Teases a New Guardians Logo

It looks like some more wrap gifts have found their way online from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 productions. While it doesn’t give us any big revelations or teases for the future entry, it does include one rather interesting detail. markmantastic has taken to his TikTok account to share some of the best and worst wrap gifts he received while working on various films. He included in one video a look at a new jacket from Vol. 3 that includes a brand new logo on the sleeve of the jacket, as shared by @dano_cosmic alongside other little details from crew merch.

The original logo seemed strongly inspired by the Nova Corps from the first film, but the updated one has quite a bit more texture to it. There are added elements, but it’s unclear if it finds their way into the actual film. The original log wasn’t highlighted in the first two films, but we did see some set photos of the team wearing an actual uniform. So, it may be part of that as the family unites to face their biggest threat yet. The neon-esque design is also an interesting detail that may be a signifier of which direction director James Gunn is going with the threequel’s visual palette.

It wouldn’t be surprising to have Gunn go all out with this potentially being his last entry in the franchise. So, we might expect the most emotional storyline of them all, which is not an easy task after the gut punch that was Yondu’s death in Vol. 2. The fact Rocket is highlighted in the cap and he’s been a character that’s been heavily highlighted for taking center stage in the upcoming story does continue to add pressure to the many theories surrounding the project.

  • Dave Bautista May Have Further Hinted at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ as His Final Appearance as Drax

Dave Bautista May Have Further Hinted at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ as His Final Appearance as Drax

announcing that they’ve wrapped work on the third entry of Guardians of the Galaxy, which has been heavily hinted at as James Gunn‘s last. The same set of photos with the cast hanging out to celebrate their work was now also shared by Dave Bautista, who has included a rather curious hashtag that may further add to the rumors that he’s potentially moving on from the role of Drax the Destroyer.

In the latest post on Instagram, Bautista includes a reference on how surprising it “ended so suddenly” and that he’s already working on his next film project. Yet, the big surprise is the inclusion of a hashtag that states “#GoodbyeDrax.” Considering he’s hinted in the past that he’s nearing his end with the franchise, this may be some further evidence that he truly is moving on once we see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next May.

There have been many hints that the current version of the Guardians of the Galaxy will very likely come to an end with the third entry. We don’t know if we’ll further explore the galaxy with a different incarnation of this team, but it adds some tension to who might end up surviving the events of the film, as well as who will completely set out on their own adventure. The future still seems possible for some characters, it’s simply uncertain until we actually get to watch the film.

  • James Gunn Shares Set Photo as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Wraps Production

James Gunn Shares Set Photo as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Wraps Production

It looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has wrapped up its production, as James Gunn took to his Twitter account to share a last image from the set. He’s hinted some time ago that it wouldn’t take much longer before they wrapped work on it, especially as they were also working on the Holiday Special as well. He shared an image of him alongside some of the cast members while also looking back at the work they’ve done to bring the trilogy to life over the years.

    https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1522730391911686144

Now, we have to keep in mind that there will still be reshoots in the future, which will bring some of the cast back together but that doesn’t mean everyone is going to be on set the same way. That is why when the initial production ends, it has a bittersweet feeling for most of those involved, especially if this is indeed the final installment for the franchise. Who knows if we’ll see every member of this team continue their time with the franchise moving forward, or if we’re saying farewell to some members.

It’s great to see the cast together, and hopefully, we get some teasers on what they have planned for us, as we won’t get our hands on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 until next year. There haven’t been any set photos of the newest additions to the franchise, who might have a bigger role moving forward and here’s hoping they start teasing who else we might see in the film as well as how it might tie into the Holiday Special aiming for a release later this year.

  • First Tease of High Evolutionary Spotted in New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photo

First Tease of High Evolutionary Spotted in New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photo

We’ve long wondered who might be the villain in the upcoming third entry of the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Recent set photos offered a hint at what may be the MCU’s interpretation of Halfworld, Rocket’s homeworld in the comics. It looked like a replica of Earth with some outdated clothing, but what stood out is that every “human” seemed like they were also a hybrid of a random animal. Now, Cosmic Circus has shared what may be our first tease of the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

There have been rumors that Chukwudi Iwjui might be playing the character, but we still haven’t gotten an official announcement on who exactly he’s playing in the upcoming threequel. The tease is certainly interesting and the alien language further hints at similarities to Earth but with some unique distinctions. It may be a different take on the Counter-Earth, which was high Evolutionary’s way of creating a “purer” version of the normal Earth.

    Image

It still seems possible that his history is with Earth and that may have been his inspiration. He’d actually make a perfect counter to Star-Lord, who also has a history with the planet but is still stuck in a very different time. They may bond over that era before realizing that while Star-Lord learned to embrace the future, especially going by the Holiday Special teases, Evolutionary is still stuck to a bygone era. So, they may use this as a way to create a contrast between the two.

  • New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos May Tease Rocket’s Halfworld

New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos May Tease Rocket’s Halfworld

Not too long ago, we covered a few set photos from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that seemingly gave us our first look at some comic-accurate costumes for the Guardians. At the time, it gave us a good look at Star-Lord and Nebula. Now, a new batch of set photos has found its way online from JustJared. While they don’t include any other Guardian members, it does give us a good look at the planet they are on, which looks a lot like Earth. Yet, the characters running around are seemingly humanoid and animal hybrids. Could this potentially be a new interpretation of Rocket Raccoon’s home planet Halfworld?

As these images are provided by JustJared, we cannot share them but they can be checked out by clicking here.

In the images, we get a good look at characters that look like they have attributes of a bat, a boar, a cat, and more. They are all very humanoid with some animal attributes. So, it doesn’t look like they are normal-sized unlike Rocket, who is mostly a raccoon with some improvements. Yet, the clothing seems quite outdated, which makes you wonder if perhaps this is a planet where another evolution echoed that of Earth but got stuck in another timeline.

Perhaps Halfworld is the playground for the High Evolutionary, who was from Earth. With his time in space, he may have wanted to return to an era when he last saw his home and while creating the various creatures that roam this planet, ended up also replicating something that is similar to Earth. Rocket may have been part of earlier experiments and these are the most advanced results of the Evolutionary research. It would be a fun way of playing with the Guardians and the audience. For now, it’s just speculation but it does look like we’ll get a very unique interpretation if this is indeed Halfworld.

  • James Gunn Teases Big Cameos for ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn Teases Big Cameos for ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’

It would not be a James Gunn film if we didn’t get a ton of fun updates from the set on how production is going. Recently with Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol 3, the director has been consistently updating us with pics from his cart, featuring mysteriously appearing figures from Rick and Morty, which he claims are gifts from an unknown crew member. Today’s update came with a bit of eyebrow-raiser for fans, with Gunn teasing some big cameos to come in the film.

In today’s update, Gunn teased that they would be filming some wonderful cameos for the “true Guardians fans.” Now, what could that mean? We might never find out until the film releases, as it’s James Gunn and you’re better off just waiting for the movie instead of trying to decipher his cryptic message. It could hint at a return of the Ravagers, more specifically Starhawk, Aleta Ogord, Mainframe, Krugarr, Martinex, and Charlie-27. These characters were briefly seen in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and again in the post-credits scene where they team up in memory of their fallen teammate, Yondu. It seems like these characters are definitely poised to return, especially in what is supposed to be the big finale for the guardians.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Takes a World Record Spot from ‘The Grinch’

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Takes a World Record Spot from ‘The Grinch’

We’ve been keeping a close eye on what the future has in store for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as director James Gunn has been busy working on the project. While he has continued to tease the appearance of various Rick and Morty characters, we still know very little about the project. Yet, he surprised many when he took to Twitter to announce that the 2023 release has broken a World Record that was previously held by How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They took the top spot for the World Record of the Most Makeup Appliances Created for a Single Production.

    https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1511091202547924996

There have been quite a lot of discussions on the internet on Marvel Studios’ general use of CG. While they still rely on a mixture of practical elements and CG but also were forced to adapt given the circumstances created through COVID. They’ve also started giving their directors more creative control ever since Kevin Feige and his team moved away from Marvel to work more closely with Disney.

In a follow-up tweet, Gunn confirms that he has 100% control over how many practical effects are used. So, his involvement also likely played a big role in reaching this world record. It’ll be fun to see if they promote it, or simply stick with his tweet on the matter, as many might not have realized The Grinch was holding on to that record since 2000. It was quite the make-up effects marvel of its time and no wonder it wasn’t an easy one to surpass.

  • Karen Gillan Promises More Improvisation in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Karen Gillan Promises More Improvisation in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Karen Gillan has been busy promoting her newest film, The Bubble, where she teamed up with Judd Apatow to offer a meta film about film-making. It seems her work on that project has inspired her to push a bit more to try and improvise her work. In an interview with The Wrap, she’s talked about her approach to acting and made a promise that Nebula is improvising “a lot more lines” in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

This time around in ‘Guardians 3’, she’s, yeah, she’s improvising a lot more lines.

    Karen Gillan

Of course, she doesn’t give away what she may have improvised throughout the production but did highlight that a big part of the opening for Avengers: Endgame was her doing just that alongside Robert Downey Jr, as Nebula and Stark bonded while adrift in space.

I will say, I’ve improvised a fair bit of Nebula because I don’t know if you saw ‘Endgame,’ which seems like. That’s a ridiculous question. But basically, all of the stuff with Robert Downey Jr. at the beginning was like, that whole montage was improvised.

    Karen Gillan

Some of the most memorable lines in cinematic history have been improvised. So, it’s great to also see James Gunn giving his team the freedom to add their own touches to further develop the characters they’ve played for so long. Nebula’s interactions with Stark were quite memorable, especially in how they added quite a bit more to her personality after just losing her sister, who she finally built up a connection with.
