  • EXCLUSIVE: Scott Adsit on Bringing Baymax to Live-Action in the MCU

EXCLUSIVE: Scott Adsit on Bringing Baymax to Live-Action in the MCU

MCU fans may remember a rumor that Marvel Studios was looking to incorporate characters from Big Hero 6, specifically Hiro and Baymax, into their shared universe in a live-action appearance. As exciting as that rumor was, it was eventually debunked by a trade report, which indicated that Big Hero 6 and the characters associated with it were staying with the creatives at Disney and any new projects involving them would be done at that studio.

One such new project involving the property is now available on Disney Plus in the form of BAYMAX!, a six-episode collection of shorts with a ton of heart (read our full review here) that takes the character back to his roots as a healthcare companion. Ahead of the premiere of the series, Charles Murphy had the opportunity to talk to actor Scott Adsit, who has voiced Baymax since Big Hero 6 debuted in 2014 and asked him if he’d be willing to get back in studio to bring him to life.

I’d get in the costume for that. I’d get in the big rubber suit and inflate it and walk around. Absolutely! Because I’m a big Marvel nerd and I think all those movies are fantastic, so to step into one of them would be incredible.

    Scott Adsit

Unfortunately for Adsit, it doesn’t appear as though he’ll get the chance to fill out that rubber suit anytime soon. But as the voice of Baymax for the better part of a decade, it’s good to know he’s willing to take up the part anytime. Maybe there’s hope for the future!

First Look at Kate Winslet in James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequel

Empire has unveiled its first coverage for James Cameron‘s upcoming epic, Avatar: The Way of Water. In it, they unveil our first look at Kate Winslet‘s character for the more aquatic-focused sequel to the 2009 classic. It’s also the first time Winslet has reunited with director Cameron since the original Titanic film. Now, she’s moving away from the character of Rose to play the Na’vi warrior Ronal.

She is joined by Cliff Curtis‘ Tonowari, who leads the Metkayina tribe and will have a major part in the film. In the coverage she shared some insight into what we can expect from the latest Na’ve added to the core cast of this franchise.

She is deeply loyal and a fearless leader. She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins her people and fights for what she holds most dear. Her family and their home.

    Kate Winslet

She also shared what it was like reuniting with Cameron after all this time, especially how they have changed with time.

Jim and I are both totally different people now to who we were 26 years ago. He is calmer, and I am definitely more hyperactive now.

    Kate Winslet

The actress is no stranger to the director and being surrounded by a lot of water during a shoot. she did share that she managed to say under water for “seven minutes and 14 seconds” for the shoot, as they’ll focus on a more ocean-centric storyline after the Sam Worthington‘s Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana‘s Neytiri end up finding a new home closer to the vast oceans of their new home planet.

  • Untitled ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Sequel Eyeing 2024 Release

Untitled ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Sequel Eyeing 2024 Release

It looks like the next entry in the Monsterverse is eyeing a 2024 release, as while Warner Bros. was announcing the new release date for Dune: Part Two, which is only facing a slight delay, it seems that they also used the opportunity to confirm that an untitled Godzilla vs. Kong sequel is going to release in 2024 on March 15th. No further details are offered on what exactly the film is going to be about, especially as the fallout of the previous entry leaves the door open to explore Godzilla or Kong’s next storyline.

While a personal hope is for more Godzilla films, there have been hints that the next project may focus on an adaptation of Son of Kong, which would hint at a new generation of monsters taking the spotlight. After Godzilla went on a rampage due to the existence of Mechagodzilla, we don’t know how the world has treated Titans. They also are still seemingly focused on the main duo rather than continuing to expand on the “Monster” aspect of the Monsterverse.

It’s not the only expansion, as there is also an Apple TV+ spinoff currently in development. We’re still waiting for an official update on the project or where it is heading, but there have been hints that they may be eyeing Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell to join the production. WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman is already attached to direct the spinoff.

  • Lena Headey Originally Had a Role in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Lena Headey Originally Had a Role in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Over the past few months, rumors have suggested Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey was set to make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the time of the rumors, the project she was reportedly involved in wasn’t entirely clear, but it was thought she would appear in Thor: Love and Thunder in some capacity. While Headey’s casting was never officially announced, Variety has confirmed she did have a role in the project – but she was ultimately cut.

The news comes as the outlet states Headey is being sued for $1.5 million by her former U.K. agency Troika over unpaid commission fees relating to a number of projects. Among those projects is none other than Thor: Love and Thunder. The agency, which has since rebranded as YMU, is claiming that the actress owes them approximately $500,000 – a 7% fee based on her earnings for the Marvel Studios film. While Heady did film something for the project, the actress does not appear in the final cut of Thor: Love and Thunder, and her role remains unknown.

Despite the agency’s claims, Headey is insistent that YMU is not entitled to any fees from her earnings on Love and Thunder as director Taika Waititi approached her for the film directly.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters next weekend.

  • ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Actor Confirms Scenes With Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum Were Cut

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Actor Confirms Scenes With Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum Were Cut

One of the fun things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that you never know who ends up crossing paths. It turns out that Christian Bale‘s run as Gorr the God Butcher, who he plays in Thor: Love and Thunder, originally included scenes featuring the return of Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum. The former made his first appearance in Avengers: Infinity War where he played the dwarf Eitri while the latter made his MCU debut in Thor: Ragnarok as the leader of Sakaar. Sadly, it seems they didn’t make it into the film.

In an interview with Prensaescenario, Bale talked about some scenes that sadly got cut along the way, and it looks like after previously being reported to joining the production, they may have filmed a few more scenes. Luckily, this scenario may be similar to the one with the 616 Mordo where he was going to be killed at the hands of Wanda. They may have had plans for the characters moving forward and didn’t want to just lose them in one fell swoop with Gorr’s god-killing rampage.

Sadly, we might never see these sequences but they could include them on the digital and physical release. Yet, if they are completely avoiding these sequences to imply something, they may just skip them altogether. Who knows why they were left out, as Taika Waititi is also known for a very spontaneous directing style that may have led to the sequences not being added to the final product.

  • Joey King on Becoming An Action Star in ‘The Princess’

Joey King on Becoming An Action Star in ‘The Princess’

In Hulu’s The Princess, a medieval action film that upends the fantasy genre in bloody ways, Joey King makes a case for transitioning from rom-com staple to action superstar. Murphy’s Multiverse got to attend the film’s press conference, in which King shared how she prepped for the role.

On what lessons she picked up during training, she said:

I think the thing that was so helpful about the training process too, you can’t just go in there and be like, “Oh, I trained for two weeks and I’m so good at this.” It’s more than just getting your form. It’s also about… you get hurt while you’re training, and the training process helps you to not be head shy anymore when you get hurt, to go into the next take.  ou just have to go full throttle. And that’s where the training really comes in handy. It’s like, you’re learning these movements and you’re learning how to respect these movements, but you’re also learning how to not be scared, you know?

Sharing the screen with King is Veronica Ngo, best known for her work on action films such as The Old Guard. Ngo, who plays Linh, a mentor to the titular Princess, dishes a lot of kicks and punches in the film. King revealed in the conference what it was like to work with an action-staple such as Ngo.

It is such an honor, because Veronica is obviously extremely experienced in the action world, and she is just an unbelievable fighter. I mean, I knew I had so much to learn from her. She is so clean with her fighting. She is so admirable. It’s a beautiful dance to watch her fight. I really knew that I had so much to learn, and I still have so much to learn.

Lastly, it was thanks to the team’s encouragement that allowed King to go outside of her comfort zone and perform beyond everyone’s expectations.

I think that it’s worth saying though that the only reason I felt like I could do these things is  because Kiet and Veronica and the entire stunt team as well, they all lifted me up so much. No one made me feel like I couldn’t do anything.

  • ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Set to Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival

‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Set to Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival

The highly anticipated Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has just added one more reason to be excited about the event. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is slated to have its world premiere at TIFF. The event is scheduled to run in full form after the pandemic forced it to a smaller scale affair last year from September 8 through September 18. However, it is unknown at this time which specific date the film will be showcased. This release will follow the precedent established with the first Knives Out, which debuted at the 2019 version of TIFF.

With the world premiere date for the sequel being slated for the Toronto International Film Festival, the assumption could be made that Glass Onion will follow suit with the original Knives Out and have its official release on Netflix in mid-November of this year. This would in theory be in line with the announcement of the “holiday season” release for the film with the title reveal teaser.

The news of the official premiere date will be exciting for fans as more information about the sequel project has been released. The title of Glass Onion came out earlier this month along with writer and director Rian Johnson explaining that this film (and any other future installments in the franchise) will be a different type of variation on the mystery genre, much like the classic stories by Agatha Christie.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is written and directed by Rian Johnson, who also helmed the original film in the franchise. The film will see the return of Daniel Craig into the role of detective Benoit Blanc as he solves a new mystery with a new ensemble of characters around him. The all-star supporting cast for the project consists of the likes of Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista. It will certainly be interesting to continue to learn more about what this highly anticipated film has in store in the coming months before its release.

Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton Join ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ for Focus

Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton are teaming up for Focus’ Lisa Frankenstein. The film, which will be the directorial debut of Zelda Williams, was penned by Jennifer Body‘s Diablo Cody. She then starts to turn him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.

Along with penning the script, Cody will serve as a producer on the film alongside Mason Novick who is producing through his MXN Entertainment banner. Cody and Sprouse have previously worked together on Tully, Young Adult, Jennifer’s Body and Juno. Amazon Studios is looking to adapt Eight Billion Genies. The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, with the outlet revealing Amazon has picked up the rights to the comic book series by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne. While the streamer is looking to craft a feature adaptation of the comic, its plans for the property go well beyond just a single movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Amazon is hoping to make feature films, series and more involving the limited comic book series. Amazon hopes that the property will serve as an “expansive cross-media universe” starting with a feature film. Soule and Browne are on board as executive producers on the project. • Howard Stern Supposedly Involved With ‘Doctor Doom’ Project for Marvel Studios

Howard Stern Supposedly Involved With ‘Doctor Doom’ Project for Marvel Studios

Today in the strangest news ever. Howard Stern has seemingly hinted that he’s involved with a Marvel Studios project. He openly confirms it involves Doctor Doom. There’s no word what role he has exactly and if it is focused on Doom, or he’s simply involved in some capacity.

It’s curious to say the least and if they are filming this summer, perhaps it’s a hint that they’ll include the character in the form of a cameo. Perhaps Howard Stern will be filmed reporting on Latveria which will be our first reference of the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Perhaps they are starting work on the Fantastic Four film that’s still actively looking for a director. Besides the announced Thunderbolt film, this would be their second villain-focused project if it is a unique one. For now, we can speculate but it definitely is a curious one.
