  • Xochitl Gomez on Portraying America Chavez

Xochitl Gomez on Portraying America Chavez

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is set to introduce quite a few new characters along with the return of many fan-favorites. Perhaps the biggest introduction here is that of Xochitl Gomez who will portray America Chavez, a young girl with the ability to jump between universes with her star-shaped portals. The character will play a big supporting role in the upcoming film and is an important milestone for the representation of Latino characters.

Deadline caught up with Gomez on the red carpet premiere of the Doctor Strange sequel where she was asked about her portrayal of the character in the film.

“I think she’s a perfect representation of a positive image of Latinas, in particular. I think that in the past there haven’t been, you know, I think there’s been negative stereotypes of Latinas and you know with America she’s positive. She is charismatic, she is resilient and I think that is a perfect representation.”

Fans are eager to see the future of this character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many are hoping to see her become a member of the Young Avengers, a group of heroes that have been set up throughout multiple Phase 4 projects thanks to the inclusion of characters like Billy Kaplan, Tommy Shepherd, Kate Bishop, Elijah Bradley, and even Kid Loki. While there has been no official word on the team showing up anytime soon, it seems very likely to happen in the future.

  • Benedict Wong Teases How ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Will Explore the Consequences of Doctor Strange’s Actions

Benedict Wong Teases How ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Will Explore the Consequences of Doctor Strange’s Actions

We’re just a few days away from yet another installment within the WCU, better known as the Wong Cinematic Universe, and we couldn’t be more excited. Benedict Wong will reprise the role again following his brief appearances in Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings as well as Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Deadline caught up with Benedict Wong at the red carpet premiere of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, where he dished on what we can expect to see in the film.

If you watched Wandavision and No Way Home you know its basically these two projects, amazing projects, converge together and all roads lead to our movie, you know the spell that was cast, the cracks in the parallel realities have now opened, all the characters are gonna come out, lots of trouble. You know I constantly told Strange, you know, not to tamper with natural law, not to cast spells, yet, yeah im the wiser one, he’s the wayward one. So now all of a sudden this film is all about consequences of his actions.

    Benedict Wong

Many will remember that Wong strongly advised against casting the spell that Strange had in mind to help Peter Parker back in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, the spell went awry and welcomed many unsavory guests into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a brief time. As to be expected, Strange was not going to be getting away with it that easily. While we aren’t sure just where Wong will pop up just next, with reports stating he might just be making his way into She-Hulk, you can for sure catch him next in Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, hitting theaters May 6th.

  • First Reactions to ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’ Hit Social Media

First Reactions to ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’ Hit Social Media

The highly anticipated sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange is set to release worldwide in just a few days after multiple delays due to the pandemic. The film will see the eagerly awaited return of not just Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange but also Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, who we last saw in the WandaVision finale. The film could be one of Marvel Studios most ambitious projects, as we embark into the multiverse after only getting a taste of is in Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film just had its red carpet premiere in Los Angeles and the social embargo has lifted releasing a wave of initial reactions to the film.

Not every review was glowing for the film, as it seems some didn’t have the same enjoyment from the film and saw a conflict between Raimi‘s usual vision not meshing well with the script, or even stating his style hasn’t evolved from his earliest filmmaking days.

  • ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ to Feature 2 Post-Credit Sequences

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ to Feature 2 Post-Credit Sequences

As is tradition with Marvel Studios’ releases, there’s also always the question on everyone’s minds about how many post-credit sequences they may expect. While two have become the norm from the studio, we’ve also been surprised in the past such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 playing with the concept. Spider-Man: Homecoming had a second post-credit that was more of a little joke to keep the audiences on their toes. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ release on the horizon, the question has also been raised about what to expect.

Luckily, hot off the heels of the red carpet premiere, ComicBook.com has revealed that the upcoming film will include two post-credit sequences. Of course, they haven’t included any details on what they entail but it helps to know going into the film. The Doctor Strange sequel will explore the vast multiverse, and may have the biggest potential in how it explores its post-credit sequences. It wouldn’t be too surprised if it sets up the future of the entire MCU, as who knows if this is just the beginning of how the rest of the universe may end up exploring this concept.

For now, all we can do is theorize as the film is set to release in just a few more days. It’s going to be tough to avoid spoilers, but who knows how little we actually know about the film. There’s a lot of potential and Sam Raimi’s return to direct a superhero film is an exciting prospect from the get-go. It’ll be interesting to see what the film and even the future has in store for its audience.

  • Oscar Isaac Reflects on His Time in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Oscar Isaac Reflects on His Time in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

The leading man of Disney+’s Moon Knight opened up recently to the New York Times about his first role in a superhero property, X-Men: Apocalypse. The third film in the second attempt for Fox to adapt the popular X-Men is generally considered one of Fox’s weakest efforts. Isaac played the title villain in a bulky costume that diverged from the presentation of the traditional comic. In the interview, he gave his thoughts on taking on the role and what it’s like looking back.

No, I don’t disown it. I know exactly what I went in there wanting to do and the reasons why. “There were these amazing actors involved that I really wanted to work with, [James] McAvoy and [Michael] Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. I collected X-Men growing up, and I loved Apocalypse, I just found him such a freaky, weird character. And then you get there and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got all these prosthetics on. I’ve got a suit on. I can’t move. I can’t see anybody. All these actors I wanted to work with — I can’t even see who they are.

    Oscar Isaac

Following the first two entries of the Fox X-Men series, First Class and Days of Future Past, it seemed like Apocalypse was primed for success, as the trio of lead characters had successfully taken the mantle of Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique. While Apocalypse was ambitious in its scope, it introduces too many new characters to develop them in any meaningful way before the massive final battle. “I still think back to that time with fondness,” Isaac said. “I wish it would have been a better film and that they would have taken care of the character a little better, but those are the risks.”

  • Louis Leterrier Replacing Justin Lin On ‘Fast X’

Louis Leterrier Replacing Justin Lin On ‘Fast X’

The Fast Saga has a brand new director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal has selected Louis Leterrier as the new helmer of Fast X. The filmmaker, known for his work on The Incredible Hulk and The Transporter, will replace Justin Lin. Per the outlet, details are still being worked out between the two parties, but Leterrier is Universal’s pick. Should things work out, filming could pick back up in just a matter of days.

Lin, the previous director, was a couple of weeks into production before he dropped out of the project about a week ago. At the time, Lin released a vague statement regarding his exit, revealing he would stay on board as producer. However, recent reports have surfaced stating Lin’s exit was over differences with star Vin Diesel. Other names that were once attached to potentially replace Line had been F. Gary Gray and David Leitch.

While Universal continued its search for a director after Lin’s exit, it is said the studio switched to second unit photography to stay on track. This would mark a return to Leterrier who previously worked with Universal on The Incredible Hulk.

Fast X hits theaters on May 19, 2023.

  • ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Projecting a $150M+ Opening in the U.S.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Projecting a $150M+ Opening in the U.S.

With the upcoming release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this Friday, current projections are looking promising for Marvel Studios’ latest release. Industry insiders are anticipating a $150M+ opening weekend in the United States. As of now, the Benedict Cumberbatch-led film is currently selling 5x the number of tickets as the original Doctor Strange film (which opened to $85M domestically in 2016). If these potential numbers hold true, this would be the largest increase for film entries in a solo franchise in the MCU.

In comparison to how this projects in relation to other films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this opening would be in line with the likes of Captain Marvel ($153.4M), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5M), and Thor: Ragnarok ($122.7M). As it stands, the film has already pulled in $42 million from presales alone, which Disney confirmed during its CinemaCon presentation. With Thursday previews fast approaching, it is expected that number will only continue to rise.

The online excitement has been high for a continuation of Marvel Studios’ multiverse saga on the big screen after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home compounded with the film’s marketing teasing of Patrick Stewart being involved with the film. With that, all signs are pointing at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being large financial success for Marvel Studios and the theatrical market.

  • Elizabeth Olsen Ready to Star in Scarlet Witch Movie If There’s a “Good Story”

Elizabeth Olsen Ready to Star in Scarlet Witch Movie If There’s a “Good Story”

For years, fans have been clamoring for a solo Scarlet Witch project, and while WandaVision might’ve served as just that, it appears Wanda’s story is far from over. During an interview to promote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen was asked about potentially starring in a Scarlet Witch movie. Although one has yet to be announced, the actress is ready to sign on with one minor caveat.

When asked when fans can expect Scarlet Witch to get her own movie, Olsen seemed more than ready to star in her own film. “Oh, I don’t know, but if they have a good story to tell, I’ll be there.”

Olsen has, of course, been very vocal in wanting to star in a solo Scarlet Witch film. She has previously expressed interest in wanting to adapt House of M in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has shown interest in wanting to continue Wanda’s story so long as there’s something worth telling.

It remains to be seen whether or not a solo Scarlet Witch project is announced. As it stands, WandaVision will not be receiving a second season, which does leave Olsen’s character open for a possible film. For now, though, fans can see again Scarlet Witch when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters this Friday.

  • Justin Lin Left ‘Fast X’ Due to “Difficult” Vin Diesel

Justin Lin Left ‘Fast X’ Due to “Difficult” Vin Diesel

The world of Hollywood was met with a shock recently when director Justin Lin suddenly dropped out of working on the highly anticipated Fast X. At the time of his departure, just days after filming had begun, it was unknown exactly why he would leave production on the tenth film in The Fast and the Furious franchise. It was especially surprising considering Lin had directed multiple entries in the series previously. Now, the reason for his exit has reportedly been revealed.

Richard Johnson of NY Daily News is claiming that Lin stepped away from Fast X due to the difficult on-set behavior of series lead Vin Diesel. According to a veteran industry producer, who is not working on Fast X, the star has been arriving to film his scenes late without even knowing his lines. He has reportedly also shown up out of shape, and this development will cost Lin “$10 or $20 million” leaving the project. This revelation comes shortly after the filmmaker appeared to be uncomfortable in a video posted by Diesel as a promotion for the film. In the footage, Diesel asks Lin if he thought Fast X was going to be the best Fast & Furious yet, to which the director replied:

It feels like the beginning of, uh, of an epic ending…. In my heart, yes.

    Justin Lin

Universal is currently looking for someone to take over for Lin, with names like F. Gary Gray and David Leitch attached. With production already underway, the search is supposedly costing the studio upwards of $1 million every day.
