  • Benedict Cumberbatch Pushed for “Darker” Scenes in ‘Doctor Strange 2’, Wrote Some of the Scenes Himself

Benedict Cumberbatch Pushed for “Darker” Scenes in ‘Doctor Strange 2’, Wrote Some of the Scenes Himself

It feels like an eternity ago that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in theaters. Time truly flies when you’re having fun, as we got a bunch of iconic new entries into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, there still is something special about the latest multiverse-focused storyline as Benedict Cumberbatch got to take on his iconic role in different variations, and as it turns out, he also got to write some of the scenes himself.

I absolutely loved it, and it sounds so egotistical – but there we go, that’s what actors are – but I loved doing the scenes with myself because of the challenge of it. And I got to write some of those scenes … I suggested that it needed to get darker at a point. There was a slightly more saccharine version at one stage and I’m really happy with the way it evolved.

    Benedict Cumberbatch

He goes on to highlight in an interview with Prestige Online that director Sam Raimi and the film’s writer, Michael Waldron, were quite supportive of letting him add his own voice to the script as well. He also highlights his hope to further explore the multiverse and the many Variants that exist out there.

Sam Raimi was so game for it and Michael Waldron really supported me to write it as well. We turned what was a very small combat between the two into a sort of very bizarre and inventive battle in that moment. I really loved it. It was how the original was pitched to me a long while back when Scott Derrickson was still working with us: Strange would meet versions of himself. It was something I wanted to lean into. We could have gone even further, and maybe it will go into the future. Who knows what other versions we might need in the multiverse chapter of the MCU? But it was very enjoyable to play all the variants of myself.

    Benedict Cumberbatch

It definitely would be a shame if we doesn’t get to play around with the concept of Variants further in the MCU. Loki‘s upcoming second season might take a crack at it again after introducing a few versions of Loki and we did get the iconic Spider-Men in No Way Home. Who knows just how much we’ll venture out into the multiverse once Phase 5 arrives?

  • ‘Black Adam’ Producer Reflects on the DC Film’s 10-Year Journey

‘Black Adam’ Producer Reflects on the DC Film’s 10-Year Journey

Black Adam has been one of those projects that seem like they would’ve never been released. For 10 years, the project has been in some form of development, and with it finally released later this month, it seems incredible that the project is still on its way to theaters. That feeling is the same for everyone involved as highlighted by producer Beau Flynn.

A lot of changes have [happened] but ultimately it does feel like we’re exactly in a place we need to be. This one called on all of our abilities and experiences over the last 20 years. The script as we know, it started out as a Shazam! / Black Adam launch for both characters. that was something we never fully got our arms around or could crack. Once they gave us the opportunity to make Black Adam on our own, we had a great time developing that script in a much different way.  Richard Brener, runs New Line and our executive, he has been consistently there all the way from the beginning of this to now still today, which is maybe the only person that was consistently there from top to bottom, him and Dave Neustadter. That did provide us a lane to be consistent with this movie regardless of all the other changes.

    Beau Flynn

Dwayne Johnson also goes on to highlight that it was “fate” that the project happened ten years later, especially fitting given how Doctor Fate has a major role in the film and just how long Johnson has been campaigning to keep this project going.

I think that we have finally landed exactly where we need to be. I do believe, like Doctor Fate, Fate doesn’t make mistakes. Black Adam happened when it needed to happen, and it happened 10 years later.

    Dwayne Johnson

It definitely seems like the wait was worth it and many fans hope that it might revitalize the DCEU, especially with the uncertainty surrounding what has been happening with Warner Bros. Discovery. Nothing is set in stone but any franchise would not waste any chance to have Dwayne Johnson as their franchise builder.

  • ‘Black Adam’ Producers Talk ‘Red Notice’ Sequels, Hope to Film Back-to-Back

‘Black Adam’ Producers Talk ‘Red Notice’ Sequels, Hope to Film Back-to-Back

Producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia have been quite busy promoting Dwayne Johnson‘s upcoming release of Black Adam. While his eyes have been quite focused on building a new DC empire, the actor has another new franchise in development. Together with director Rawson Marshall Thurber, he’s been spearheading a film trilogy with Red Notice. The first film ended up as one of the biggest releases on the platform. In an interview with Collider, the producers teased how far along they are with the anticipated sequels.

Well, we have a ‘Red Notice 2’ script and almost [Red Notice] 3. The plan is hopefully if Hiram and I have of our way that we would make those movies back to back. But it’s going to be all about the scripts and how we feel and how Dwayne, Gal, and Ryan feel about them. But that franchise is a blast and obviously Netflix really wants it, and Rawson [Marshall Thurber, director and screenwriter] is committed.

    Beau Flynn

It seems like they are busy with both sequels, and it’s interesting that they are hoping to direct the sequels back-to-back. It’s not an uncommon practice in the industry and it’s also a showcase of just how much Netflix believes in the project.

Yeah, Rawson [Marshall Thurber] is working away and we were just talking to him about it the other day. He’s deep in it and that’s his baby. So, he’s grinded away. We’re excited to be able to get into it and see a new draft that he’s about to deliver us to us very soon.

    Hiram Garcia

It sounds like they believe in Thurber‘s work and we’ll see if they’ll start production sooner rather than later. Yet, if they are still in the middle of the script development, they might need a bit of production is set to release at some point next year.

  • Vin Diesel Says Marvel Studios Interested In a Groot ‘Planet X’ Movie

Vin Diesel Says Marvel Studios Interested In a Groot ‘Planet X’ Movie

Fans are preparing to bid farewell to everyone’s favorite band of intergalactic misfits, with Summer 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 potentially marking the end of the Guardians as we know them. However, one of the group’s stars may believe that the end of the road for Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not yet arrived.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Groot actor Vin Diesel shared a post on Instagram where he seems to indicate—or joke—that he believes Marvel Studios has plans to develop an MCU movie based on the talking tree’s homeworld.

After noting his niece’s love for the recent I Am Groot Disney+ shorts, Diesel ended the post on an interesting note:

“So my niece called me and said… thank you uncle Vin for making I Am Groot, haha… the shorts written and directed by the talented Kristin Lepore. It was a blast making, but it’s also a blast watching it with my angels. No wonder Marvel wants to make the Planet X movie. All love. #FloraColossi #AlphaGroot #PlanetX”

    Vin Diesel

Planet X is the homeworld of the Flora colossus, the alien race from which Groot is descended, where the simplistic but loveable language of Groot is spoken. Fans may also recognize “Planet X” as the X-Men comic storyline by the same name, or the mutant safe haven also coined Planet X. While fans gets excited about an X-Men news, it is unclear how Diesel’s post would relate to mutants at all.

Diesel easily could have been joking about the potential for a Groot-centered film, as a solo film starring the loveable character seems unlikely in the currently known MCU slate. Still, nothing can ever be ruled out as a future installment given the rapid expansion of the MCU in the past couple of years.

  • 20th Century’ to Adapt YA Novel ‘Feed’, Rising Nigerian Filmmaker Attached to Direct

20th Century’ to Adapt YA Novel ‘Feed’, Rising Nigerian Filmmaker Attached to Direct

It looks like the acclaimed young adult novel Feed is getting an adaptation. 20th Century has gotten the rights to M.T. Anderson‘s novel and has also already found its choice in director. Not just any, but an up-and-coming Nigerian filmmaker, Stanley Kalu, who only recently graduated from USC. He is set to write and direct the project. Zachary Green is attached to produce the love story and this is Kalu‘s feature debut.

The book has recently been named among Time magazine’s 100 Best YA Books of All Time, which explores a dystopian America where consumers are directly linked to the internet. Yet, it’s mostly a love story at heart as a kid names Titus Gray takes a trip to the moon over the weekend, where he meets Violet Durn and ends up trying to fight the feed.

The novel may be part of YA category, but it does explore darker themes like consumerism, data mining, and what future the U.S. might be heading towards. It even became a finalist in the 2002 National Book Award and was given an honor from the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards for Fiction a year later. Kalu is also set to produce the film which will be launched under Green’s Bantu, Inc. banner.

  • ‘WALL-E’ Director to Tackle Searchlight’s New Sci-Fi Epic ‘In the Blink of an Eye’

‘WALL-E’ Director to Tackle Searchlight’s New Sci-Fi Epic ‘In the Blink of an Eye’

It looks like the 2017 Black List entry by Colby Day is finally getting an adaptation, as Searchlight has set Andrew Stanton as the director of the epic sci-fi drama In the Blink of an Eye. This marks Stanton‘s return to live-action after making quit the name for himself helming Pixar’s iconic entries like WALL-E and Finding Nemo. Russian Doll‘s Jared Ian Goldman is also joining the production as a producer but the project is just moving forward.

Searchlight projects are normally on the smaller side of cinematic budgeting, but it seems they might venture out a bit more with this project. Stanton is no stranger to working with big-budgets and massive projects in scale, which makes him a fitting choice for this sci-fi adaptation. The concept explores the history of the world and explores three distinct stories, which will definitely be a challenge for a limited runtime.

Colby Day‘s script appeared on the Black List and became his jumping-off point into screenwriting. He has gone on to work on Spaceman based on a Czech novel, which will be directed by Chernobyl‘s Johan Renck with Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan attached. He’s attached as an executive producer on the project with Searchlight’s Tylor Friedman and Apolline Berty overseeing the project.

  • Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ Eyeing ‘Renfield’s Nicholas Hoult for Undisclosed Role

Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ Eyeing ‘Renfield’s Nicholas Hoult for Undisclosed Role

Nicholaus Hoult may have been getting addicted to vampire stories, as while he’s been busy working on the Dracula retelling Renfield, where he stars opposite Nicolas Cage. Now, he has seemingly joined the upcoming Nosferatu retelling by The Northman‘s Robert Eggers. From the sounds of it, he is still in negotiations for a role and would join the cast that currently consists of Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp.

The story is teased as a “gothic tale of obsession” that takes place in 19th century Germany, as a Transylvanian vampire haunts a young woman. They tease that he brings “untold horror with him” which might hint at more than just the vampire being the main threat throughout. Skarsgard would take on the role of Nosferatu while Depp will take on the female lead. Hoult‘s character remains under wraps.

Eggers has long hoped to bring this project to life, as he originally was going to film it before he ended up with his Viking project, The Northman. Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles were attached to the project when it was with Studio 8 but due to budget concerns, the project didn’t quite come together. He almost passed on the gothic tale but seemingly fell back in love with the

  • Brian Tyler to Compose Illumination’s ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie

Brian Tyler to Compose Illumination’s ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie

We finally got our first tease of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie and it seems that they have dropped a small nugget of information about what we can expect from the film before dropping the trailer at us. As it turns out, it seems that composer Brian Tyler has been hired to bring the movie’s musical landscape to life.

It also seems like Tyler is going to work closely with composer Koji Kondo to include many iconic songs from the original games. So, if you’ve been worried they’d move away from the soundtrack that made the games stand out, they’re definitely not just creating a new soundtrack ignoring the original songs that made the game’s as classic as they are.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Tyler brings to the table and how they’ll appraoch the concept. Mario’s soundtrack has evolved quite a bit over teh years with the Odyssey one standing out quite a bit. Of course, he coudl try to reeplicate elements from across the years but still try to give it a unique spin. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what direction they take it once we see more fro mthe film.
