‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’: Idris Elba to Voice Knuckles the Echidna

It looks like the rumors are false and it isn’t Jason Momoa who will voice Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Idris Elba took to Twitter to unveil his involvement alongside our first tease at the echidna’s classic knuckled fists. It’s also our first look at the film’s design which is only a small tease. So, perhaps we’ll get a full look at the trio in the near future.

It’s amazing to see the details put into the design of the glove. We even see the lining and small details. We sadly never get a chance to see how detailed these characters are designed in the film, but it shows how much work the animators put into these projects. We know that he’ll join Sonic and Tails, who was briefly introduced in the post-credit sequence of the first film, in a new adventure. Yet, his role is still uncertain.

In the original gaming franchise, Knuckles starts off as an antagonist. He believes Sonic is out to steal his Master Emerald before he joins their efforts to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik. There’s a good chance they might follow this original dynamic and they end up working together at the end of the film.

Yet, we don’t know who will be the main antagonist. While I would love to see Chaos make his live-action debut, there’s a good chance that Jim Carrey‘s Robotnik will find his way back into the human-filled dimension. We’ll also get to hopefully explore his connection to the echidna’s we briefly saw in the first film’s opening. He might have been sent by them to hunt down Sonic before finding out he isn’t that bad after all.

  • Shemar Moore Joins ‘SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2’

Shemar Moore Joins ‘SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2’

The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has added a Criminal Minds star to its ranks. Shemar Moore has confirmed his involvement with the video game sequel via a post on his Instagram. The veteran television actor did not include any information on who he might be playing, but the image he provided is enough to assume he’ll be taking a live-action role instead of voicing an animated character. He joins a cast that includes returning members James MarsdenTika Sumpter, and Parks and Rec breakout Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic. Jim Carrey is rumored to return as the villain Dr. Robotnik. There is also the rumor that Jason Mamoa will voice Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic’s long-time friend Tails is also returning after his brief appearance in a post-credit sequence, though there has been no word on whether or not Colleen O’Shaughnessey will return to the role.

Moore is best known for his work as a television police officer. He starred as behavioral analyst Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds for eleven years before leaving the show to lead CBS’ S.W.A.T. The actor is also no stranger to the world of geeks, having provided the voice of DC’s Cyborg in five separate animated films over the last decade. Known for his smooth, charming nature, Moore served as the host of the music-based television show Soul Train for almost five years. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be one of the highest-profile films in his career, and it’s set to release in April of 2022. Jeff Fowler will return to helm the project, which will follow Sonic and his human friends dealing with the destructive return of Carrey‘s Robotnik.

  • RUMOR: Title for 2022’s New ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Game Leaks Online

RUMOR: Title for 2022’s New ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Game Leaks Online

A few hours ago, Team Sonic revealed the first new entry in the franchise since 2017’s Sonic Forces. The pandemic didn’t help matters, as it delayed the release and announcement by quite a bit but it luckily was able to kick off the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. They didn’t offer any details on what the title will be called or what type of game it might be. The teaser simply showed our favorite hedgehog running freely through the forest before leaving a weird symbol behind. Well, one gaming modder took their time to analyze the 4K version of the new game’s teaser that may have revealed the game’s title.

Now, the fact that it might be called Sonic Rangers is even more interesting if you consider that some time ago there was a leak in January that mentioned a game with the same title. The franchise is not a stranger to 4chan leaks but so far only the gaming retailer leak for Sonic Colors Ultimate was confirmed. Of course, we still have to take this with a grain of salt as they could easily change the title at any point during development. There is also the question of this was just a test title that was added into the teaser’s assets. Sega did tease more reveals throughout the rest of the year. So, hopefully, we’ll get a better picture of what we can expect from the 2022 entry into the franchise and if we might be entering a completely new world of Sonic action.

  • ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Plot Leaks Online

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Plot Leaks Online

Here’s an interesting way for a film’s first description to find its way online. The United States Copyright Office released an entry for the upcoming sequel of 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog. The problem is that it includes the film’s first official description. There is a chance that it may change but only continue reading at your own risk if you want to avoid any spoilers regarding the film’s plot. There are some considerable reveals included in the plot. It was first found by Twitter user @Ninja_risu.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

It looks like Sonic will be on his own, as James Marsden and Tika Sumpter only have brief appearances in the film. The plot also confirms the return of Jim Carrey, which was uncertain until now. Dr. Robotnik was a highlight of the first film and it is great to know the actor will return to the role. Knuckles’ involvement already hinted at the live-action appearance of Master Emerald, which may tie into Sonic’s origin story teased in the first entry. It’ll be curious to see if it also sets up the existence of the Chaos Emeralds in the real-world or they might travel through some alternative dimensions.

  • ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s Set Photos Tease a ‘Sonic Adventures 2’-Inspired Storyline

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s Set Photos Tease a ‘Sonic Adventures 2’-Inspired Storyline

When fans first got their look at Sonic the Hedgehog’s live-action film, the reactions were less than thrilled, with many fans begging for it to be redone. They wanted them to embrace the cartoonish aspects of the original design from the hit games. The studio quickly gave in and delayed the film to completely revamp Sonics’ design. This move was accepted with open arms by fans.

Now, the sequel is already underway with more iconic Sega characters joining. We recently got our first look at Knuckles alongside Sonic and Tails stand-ins through set photos. They offered our best look yet at the upcoming sequel. Luckily, more set photos have made their way online, giving us yet another look at the film and characters previously seen in Sonic Adventures 2.

Lined across the streets of the set are some pretty insane military vehicles that just happened to have the “G” logo on them. For those who aren’t familiar with it, this logo definitely represents the Guardian Units of Nations Aka G.U.N. They first appeared in Sonic Adventures 2. They are a worldwide military and law enforcement organization that’s run by a figure only known as the Commander. He is tasked with defending Earth from malicious threats like Dr. Robotnik. It can be assumed that G.U.N was formed following the events of the first film, where Sonic and Robotnik’s battled throughout every corner of the planet at super speed.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently set to release on April 8th, 2022 with director Jeff Fowler returning. James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and of course, Ben Schwartz, whose voice work on the previous film was widely praised by fans and critics alike, are returning in their respective roles. It’s currently unknown who will serve as the voice actor for Knuckles and if Colleen O’Shaughnessey will return to voice Tails following his brief appearance at the tail end of the first film. There is the rumor that Jason Momoa was offered the role of Knuckles. It’ll be interesting to see if the film will include elements from Sonic Adventure 2.

  • RUMOR: Leaks Hint at a ‘Sonic Colours’ Remaster

RUMOR: Leaks Hint at a ‘Sonic Colours’ Remaster

Here’s an interesting rumor going around. There has been some evidence online pointing to a remaster of 2010’s Sonic Colours. The first hint came when German dubbing studio iksample listed the game. It was only misleading with a visual from the Sonic Boom franchise. So, it could’ve been added accidentally on the site. Yet, SoGamely, a French retailer, revealed a Limited Edition game for Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One under the title Sonic Colors Ultimate.

It makes sense that SEGA might revisit some of their most popular Sonic the Hedgehog titles, as they are celebrating its 30 anniversary. It’s going to be a big year for the franchise. The film’s sequel was announced to release in 2022. A brand new Netflix animated series has also entered production, which will be unique from the previously released American-French Sonic Boom series. Now, the question is also if this might be the only remake we will see this year.

There has been a lot of hope for SEGA to revisit the Sonic Adventure series, which is a personal favorite from the franchise. It’s also going to be interesting to see who will be the new voice for the hedgehog, as his original voice actor Roger Craig Smith has announced that he is no longer voicing the iconic role. He has played Sonic for ten years now and it’ll be quite the adjustment to hear someone else take over the role. 2021 will be a big year for the SEGA mascot and it’ll be interesting to see if that will be revealed during the anniversary.

  • ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Release Date Announced Alongside New Logo

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Release Date Announced Alongside New Logo

Right before the pandemic hit, one of the last films to grace the silver screen was Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega’s first major Hollywood film told the origin story of a young blue hedgehog, as he met his arch-rival Jim Carrey‘s Dr. Robotinik and made some friends along the way. At the end of the film, it was revealed that a familiar face is joining his next adventure, as Miles ‘Tails’ Prower made his live-action debut. Just recently, there is also the rumor going around that Jason Momoa was offered the role of Knuckles the Echidna. Now, it like the film is getting ready to enter production, as the official Twitter account shared a small animation that reveals the film’s rather straight-forward title and the official release date of April 8th, 2022.

As a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan, I am excited to see where they are heading with the upcoming film. It makes sense they would remain with the classic numbering system, as even the original trilogy followed that structure. I would’ve loved to see some subtitles like Adventure or Heroes. It would just add that little something. We still have no idea where the story is heading, as Dr. Robotnik remains stranded on a planet full of mushrooms. There is a chance that they might introduce a brand new villain, such as the Echidna tribe that got teased during the opening sequence of the last film. It’s also kind of perfect that Tails gets a larger role in the sequel, as he did in the original Sega Genesis game.

As this year will celebrate the blue blur’s 30th anniversary, we might get some more insight into the film’s story around June. Ironically, it is kind of perfect to reveal this in February, as Sonic’s first actual video game appearance was in the arcade game Rad Mobile. That means his actual 30th anniversary is in February, so Paramount chose a perfect time for this reveal. Now, if only they could announce the next game s well.

  • RUMOR: Jason Momoa Offered to Voice Knuckles in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Sequel

RUMOR: Jason Momoa Offered to Voice Knuckles in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Sequel

It would appear as though the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog sequel is looking to add some heavy star-power to its cast. The Illuminerdi has learned that Jason Momoa, best known for his starring roles in Aquaman and Game of Thrones, has been offered to voice Knuckles the Echidna. He is a fan-favorite character who was long-rumored to be playing a role in the film. A while back, the in-house production being called Red Energy seemed to hint at his addition. Their sources behind the Momoa casting claim that the “ball is in his court”, and that the muscle-clad actor needs only agree to terms to finalize the deal.

Fans began speculating that Knuckles would appear in the sequel almost as soon as the original dropped in early 2020, a theory, which got promoted by the mid-credits surprise when another classic supporting character from the franchise, Miles “Tails” Prower, made his live-action debut. Although the original video game voice actress, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, returned to play Tails, many speculated that a character like Knuckles could receive a new voice in a similar vein to the film’s title character. The popular fan theory was that they would cast Dwayne Johnson, and it seems that they certailny had a specific type of actor in mind for the role. If he accepts Paramount’s conditions, he’ll replace Dave B. Mitchell, who played him in the games.

The Sonic the Hedgehog sequel was confirmed in May. It was only three months after the film’s successful theatrical release of the first film. The announcement came on the heels of a surprisingly successful run in theaters, which ended up making Sonic the sixth highest-grossing film of the year. The cast of the first endeavor, which included Jim Carrey as the evil Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as Sonic’s new real-world best friend, is expected to return alongside Ben Schwartz in the title role. Jeff Fowler, who made his theatrical directorial debut with Sonic the Hedgehog, is also on board to helm the sequel. The cast will see the return of Schwartz and Carrey in their titular roles. They have stated interest in the next film bringing the story more in-line with the source material. The actual plot of the franchise’s future remains tightly under wraps.

  • Roger Craig Smith Retiring from Voicing Sonic the Hedgehog After 10 Years

Roger Craig Smith Retiring from Voicing Sonic the Hedgehog After 10 Years

Here’s some heartbreaking news. Roger Craig Smith has just revealed on Twitter that he will no longer be voicing Sonic the Hedgehog. As he points out in his tweet, he took over the character ten years ago in Sonic Free Riders. He’s been playing the Blue Blur ever since. he also took on the role in the animated series Sonic Boom. There has been no official word by SEGA so far and it is uncertain if his voice will still be included in the latest game in development. It is never easy when a legacy character gets a new voice but he was welcomed with a lot of positivity all these years ago. Currently, we have no official confirmation on who will take over the role.

    https://twitter.com/RogerCraigSmith/status/1354805293369024520

What adds to this reveal is that we still haven’t gotten a single reveal for any upcoming Sonic game. So, there is a chance that the upcoming release will be his last appearance as the official voice for the character. We might also be surprised with a brand new voice once the first trailer gets released. Smith‘s voice acting was the defining aspect of Sonic even as many took on the role throughout his history. Jason Griffith, Jaleel White, and Ben Schwartz have added their own spin to the iconic character. When he took over 10 years ago, he had to fill some big shoes as Ryan Drummond laid the groundwork for Sonic’s first real 3D adventure in 1998. Of course, we’ll be hearing more from Smith in his many other roles but this announcement may be just the beginning of a big change for Sonic’s future.

  • ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Netflix Series in Development

‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Netflix Series in Development

Here’s an interesting surprise that may have accidentally leaked ahead of The Video Game Awards. Netflix shared a tweet that revealed they are working on a brand new 3D animated series together with SEGA, WildBrain, and Man Of Action Entertainment. It is set to debut in 2022. There are no exact details given so it doesn’t look like it will be connected to the films or even the games’ ongoing conflict. We are still waiting for any news regarding the follow-up to Sonic Forces, so this might also tie into that game similar to the Boom spin-off.

Sonic Boom was an American-French produced show that featured the redesigns of the Boom reboot. Ironically, the series was well-received while the games were hit by heavy criticism. The blue blur has a long history with animated projects dating all the way back to 1993. It also had a second series at the time titled SatAM due to it taking on the Saturday morning timeslot. There was also Sonic Underground that completely revamped Sonic’s origin back in 1999.

He has quite an extensive history, so it isn’t surprising that they are giving a new animated series a shot. The collaboration with Netflix is a huge step that could mean it’ll have a much bigger budget. Man of Action Entertainment has worked on a variety of shows, such as Ben 10, Big Hero 6, and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Hopefully, this show takes inspiration from SatAM and the Archie comics, which have featured some darker storylines. WildBrain is also involved, who specialize in child-friendly content so that seems rather unlikely. Guess I’ll have to wait longer until Scourge the Hedgehog makes an appearance outside of the comics. Still, it is interesting that the tweet got deleted shortly after it was published so we’ll see when it’ll be announced during the Game Awards.
