    ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Artwork Offers Closer Look at Classic Villains Updated Designs

    Spider-Man: No Way Home has been breaking records at the international box office. It builds upon the previous two film entries and continues the journey of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker, while also paying tribute to what came before. Villains from the previous Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man franchises make a grand return, but with a twist. Marvel Studios and Sony have given these familiar faces a new look to highlight the meeting of old and new. Luckily, it seems that artwork has found its way online showcasing the details behind these new takes on familiar faces.

    Let’s start off with the first confirmed return, which was Alfred Molina‘s Doctor Octopus. His design has mainly remained the same, especially as Marvel Studios used their de-aging technology to make you believe that they are continuing their journey from the moment they were about to die.

    We also have the updated look at Green Goblin, as Willem Dafoe drops the mask for the iconic purple scarf, but just in the form of a ripped-up sweater. He still has his iconic green suit underneath, which ties the elements and adds a bit more usage to it.

    Next up is Thomas Haden Church‘s return as Sandman, who spends most of the time in his sand form. We get a brief appearance of the actor at the end.

    The Lizard makes a return from The Amazing Spider-Man and remains mostly the same. They sadly didn’t update his humanoid-reptile face, but it’s still a design that many fans of the film will be happy to see return.

    Last, but certainly not least, Jamie Foxx returned as a very different take on Elektro. He’s gone through the most changes and they managed to find the perfect balance to make it work, especially with the nice touch that electricity creates his iconic mask.

    These are some great designs and it makes you wonder if they ever considered changing more elements as production was underway. You never know how much has changed once they get into the draft phase, which may never see the light of day.

    ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Overtakes ‘Infinity War’ for Second Highest Opening, Swings Past $600M Worldwide

    Just yesterday, we discussed that Spider-Man: No Way Home just barely scratched the $600M milestone at the box office. The film became the third-highest opening for the US, but it turns out the final numbers had a little more to say. Normally, you don’t see strong shifts from Sunday into the Monday finalized numbers, but the film#s $252M jumped to $260M. As such, it has passed Avengers: Infinity War‘s $257.7M to take the second spot after all. Internationally, the film now stands at $340.8M – still missing China mind you – but remains at the third spot for its international opening.

    Its Sunday numbers now stand at $64.175M domestically, which keeps it at the third spot ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Black Panther. The interesting number is that 83% of colleges are closed today according to Comscore, which means that it might have an incredibly strong Monday showing. Plus, the holidays are around the corner which will add another layer to its box office run. It’s now the biggest December release of all time and has set a new benchmark for what the future has in store in 2022.

    ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured Morgan Stark

    Spider-Man: No Way Home is filled to the brim with characters from across the multiverse. The story is a love letter to Spider-Man and his cinematic history, as well as pushing Tom Holland‘s character forward in new and interesting ways. Who knows how many scenes ended up on the cutting room floor due to just how much they already had to balance from the get-go. Well, it seems we found out about one, as Avengers: Endgame‘s Lexi Rabe, who famously played Tony’s daughter Morgan Stark, revealed she was cut from the film.

    It’s a curious surprise, as it makes you wonder what role she may have had specifically in the story. Of course, it’s still too early to discuss what was in the film, but there are a few moments where we may have had a brief moment of her appearing. The Stark connection does exist, as Tony did end up deciding to change the world to bring Peter back, who he probably saw as a surrogate son. We’ll see whatever storyline that could’ve been set up with her appearance might get revisited, as it is uncertain what future the character has in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings its Way to Third-Highest Opening Weekend of All Time

    It’s been a turbulent weekend, as people flocked to theaters to witness the film that is Spider-Man: No Way Home. Everyone wanted to see if the rumors were all true and it led to the best opening since the pandemic, as the film has now premiered to $253M across 4,336 theaters in the US. As such, it now has broken many of its earliest expectations at the domestic box office. It beats out Sony’s other Spider-Man spinoff, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, that took the top opening just shy of $100M by a mile and offers some motivation about the box office’s full recovery. Tom Rothman had the following to say on the film’s success:

    This weekend’s historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve. All of us at Sony Pictures, are deeply grateful to the fabulous talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that produced such a landmark film. Thanks to their brilliant work, this Christmas everyone can enjoy the big screen gift of 2021’s mightiest Super Hero —your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

    The numbers are impressive as they even compete with pre-pandemic releases, as the film is now the eighth to pass the $200M mark in the local box office and has nabbed the third-highest opening weekend of all time. It even doubled Homecoming‘s $117M opening weekend, which saw a slight dip with Far From Home‘s $92M. As it stands, the film has beat out Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s $220M, Jurassic World‘s $208M, as well as fellow Marvel Studios projects Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. It’s an impressive accomplishment and it’ll be interesting to see how word-of-mouth might push the film moving forward.

    “Nothing has Been Determined”: Sony CEO Speaks Out on Tom Holland’s Future as Spider-Man

    Last night marked the red carpet premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, meaning the stars and Hollywood suits were out in full force. Among them was Sony CEO Tom Rothman, who as Chair of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, has overseen the partnership between Sony and Marvel Studios that has led to MCU-set Spidey films like No Way Home.

    The collaboration between the two studios has been wildly successful and with the conclusion of the Spidey high school-set trilogy, fans are eager to know if Tom Holland will be back in the role once his contract is up. A couple of weeks back, Sony Pictures producer Amy Pascal, who has worked on all 3 Holland Spidey films, told Fandango that a deal to keep collaboration had, in fact, been reached. When asked to confirm or deny Pascal’s comments last night, Rothman laughed and said:

    “I will confirm that my dear sister-in-arms, Amy, is a very optimistic person. that’s what I will confirm. The reality is nothing is set. Nothing has been determined. But on the other hand, everything is still possible.”

    Before concluding that portion of the interview, Rothman added, “Hope springs eternal. We’ll see.” Speaking as the CEO of a company, Rothman is smart not to give anything away until the ink is dry on all the contracts. Will there be more Spider-Man movies? Always. Will Marvel Studios and Sony continue to collaborate to make them? It sure seems like it based on everything we’ve heard during press junkets the past few weeks. However, we recently saw the Sony/Marvel Studios deal come to an “end” before being saved by last minute efforts by Holland, so Rothman’s totally in line here with his response. With everything on the table, however, it’s encouraging to think about another decade or so of the studios working together to bring Spidey to the big (and small) screen.

    EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Comments on ‘No Way Home’ Return

    Spider-Man: No Way Home finally swings into theaters this week and fans are eagerly anticipating not only the ending of the first MCU Spidey trilogy, but putting to rest all the crazy rumors that have swirled around this film for over a year. Promotional material for the film put a rest to any doubts that the film would feature villains from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-franchises as they heavily featured Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman and Lizard. One doubt that has remained front and center for fans, however, is if Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans returned to play Flint Marko and Curtis Conners, respectively.

    Ifans’ Conners proved a key character in The Amazing Spider-Man, not only as the villain but as link between Peter and his father. While the Lizard was an outright villain, Conners was a bit of tortured genius and Ifans played the role well. Ifans is playing another tortured genius, Rasputin, in the upcoming film The King’s Man. Our own Hunter Radesi interviewed Ifans today and asked the actor if he was in fact the man behind the Lizard again for Spider-Man: No Way Home. With a big grin on his face, Ifans responded:

    Well you know, like most Christmas presents, the good thing is not knowing what’s in them until it’s time to open them.

    While Jaime Foxx and Alfred Molina seemed all too happy to talk about their time in the film, Ifans was definitely a little less forthcoming. With the aforementioned actors returning for their roles, it’s hard to imagine that Sony and Marvel Studios didn’t do everything in their power to bring Ifans and Church back as well. With just 4 days until the film’s debut in theaters, we won’t have to be left wondering much longer.

    Update: a message from the BBFC indicated there will be no new trailer:

    A listing by the British Board of Film Classification confirms that Sony has cut a third trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home. The premiere of the film is set to take place on December 13th and is already poised for a senses-shattering opening weekend at the box office, with an expected domestic take of over $250M.

    Sony has already pushed out two trailers for the film, with the most recent one fully revealing the film’s villains and the narrative around how they make the jump to the MCU from their own universes. While that trailer heavily featured Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jaime Foxx’s Electro, it certainly held back on confirming the biggest rumor about the film: the return of Spider-Men past, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

    While everyone with an ounce of common sense knows the two will be in the film (plot leaks, leaked photos, leaked videos and, most recently, a leaked soundtrack all confirm it), Sony has generated a ton of social media buzz for the film by withholding them to this point. With the second trailer having been such a hit among fans, what would Sony have left to put in a third trailer for a film that’s already on pace to be among the highest grossing films of all time?

    Releasing a third, spoiler-heavy trailer just a few days ahead of the film’s release would be a curious move for a normal studio, but par for the course for Sony. An argument could conceivably be made that revealing Maguire and Garfield could drive more fans to the theaters, but pretty much every theater across the country is sold out for opening night, if not opening weekend. A confirmation of Charlie Cox’s role in the film, something Kevin Feige made possible by confirming that the actor would be playing Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the MCU moving forward, while still spoilery might be a little more reasonable. We’ll all find out together.

    EXCLUSIVE: ‘Morbius’ Filming Additional Scenes Involving Michael Keaton’s Vulture

    Recently, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Michael Keaton told the host that he would soon be reprising the role of Adrian Toomes, a character he first played in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and then again in Sony’s Morbius, which is set to release late next month. Keaton’s nonchalant, matter of fact delivery of the news set fans abuzz as they began to speculate on what property he might be working on. Fans began to wonder if we was doing some additional photography on Morbius or if he might be joining Spider-Man: No Way Home or if he was joining some unknown, mystery project.

    While I have yet to hear Keaton’s name attached to Spider-Man: No Way Home, we can exclusively reveal that his work on his role in Morbius is still ongoing with just 7 weeks until release. Though we don’t have details on whether Keaton was working on reshoots or additional photography, the work isn’t done quite yet as scenes with the character will be filmed next week.

    To this point, Keaton’s appearance in the footage that’s been released for Morbius point towards the character making what amounts to an extended cameo. However, if Sony has been filming scenes with the character for the past two weeks, it would seem like an attempt to beef up the role in the upcoming film. With Venom: Let There Be Carnage opening a way for character’s from Sony’s Marvel films to crossover into the MCU and with Amy Pascal indicating that Sony and Marvel Studios are continuing their collaboration, anything is possible in terms of what to expect from Keaton’s role in the future.

    Sony and Marvel Studios Have Not Finalized a Deal for Post-‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ After All

    Here’s a curious development. Sony and Marvel Studios’ third Spider-Man film is about to release with No Way Home. Just as the tickets went on sale, we are starting to get some teases of the future for Tom Holland‘s time as the webhead. Producer Amy Pascal earlier today revealed that they are already working on the next trilogy and confirmed that there’s already a deal in place for the upcoming three films. Well, turns out that might not be the full picture just yet.

    So, even though that quote seemed like a definite deal was in place, The Hollywood Reporter has shared that Sony insiders are not aware of any official plans being in place just yet. Yes, Sony wants to continue working with Holland and Feige but there’s nothing concrete finalized for any trilogy or future film.

    Of course, if cooperation is wanted on both sides, it’ll definitely happen. Plus, the MCU connection has boosted quite a few of their projects and it would be strange to pull the plug right after Venom: Let There Be Carnage teased a meeting between the two. Marvel Studios also likes to keep some cards close to the chest. So, we might get a clearer picture on Spidey’s future in the new year.

    BREAKING: Sony and Marvel Studios Have Officially Extended Their Spider-Man Deal

    It looks like Tom Holland may just be stuck playing Spider-Man until he’s 30 after all. In an interview with Fandango, Sony Pictures producer Amy Pascal revealed that Sony and Marvel Studios have plans to continue to work together on a new trilogy of Spider-Man films, saying “Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners.“

    Tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home went on sale last night and caused chaos. With press screenings for the film set for this week, the press cycle has officially kicked off and Pascal told Fandango that not only is No Way Home not the end of the road for the unprecedented deal, but that the two studios are planning another trilogy:

    This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.

    It’s unknown what further collaboration between the two studios will look like, but with Tom Hardy’s Venom crossing over into the MCU it’s possible that future could include Holland’s Spidey coming face-to-face with the symbiote.
