  • West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’

West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Ariana DeBose stunned critics and audiences with her role as Anita in Stephen Spielberg’s West Side Story, winning the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress and earning an Oscar nomination for the same role. Now, DeBose will step into the world of comic book adaptations as she boards Sony’s Kraven the Hunter.

According to a trade report, DeBose will play voodoo priestess Calypso, a role for which Jodi Turner-Smith had previously been rumored. Calypso and Kraven shared a highly antagonistic relationship in the comics that often saw the hunter driven into fits of rage by the manipulations of Calypso, who also created potions for Kraven to augment his strength.

DeBose joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who landed the lead as Kraven late last year, Fred Hechinger, who recently joined the film as Kraven’s brother, the Chameleon, and Russell Crowe, who will play the father of the two men. Kraven the Hunter, directed by J.C. Chandor, is due in theaters next January.

  • Andrew Garfield Has “No Plans” for More Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield Has “No Plans” for More Spider-Man

The road to Andrew Garfield’s return as Spider-Man: No Way Home was filled with denials and dissembling as the actor tried to keep a lid on things even as more and more evidence emerged that he would suit up again. While all is certainly forgiven by fans following the film, Garfield’s performance has led to a non insignificant push on social media to see a more extended return to the character.

Garfield has recently made it clear that he’s open to returning as the older, angrier Spider-Man down the road and his performance in No Way Home was powerful enough to leave fans asking a lot of questions that could be explored under the right circumstances, as Garfield explained previously:

I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right. Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself.

Being open to returning and actually returning are, of course, very different things and not entirely dependent on Garfield’s wishes. To that end, fans may be a bit bummed to find out that, at the moment, it doesn’t seem like another appearance by Garfield as Spidey is imminent. At last night’s SAG Awards, Garfield was asked by a Variety reporter if he would be doing Spider-Man again and a very self-aware Garfield delivered the news that he has “no plans” to return to the role.

As fans, it’s become entirely impossible to believe anything any actor associated with a Marvel project has to say. Garfield could be telling the truth and not actually know what’s next. Garfield could have already filmed something for a future appearance. Garfield could be lying, which he knows is the default belief of fandom now. Whatever the case, there’s certainly room for more stories to be told about Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man that would definitely deviate from the path Tom Holland’s MCU Spidey has set, so fingers crossed it’s another lie and we’ll see him swinging back into action in the not-too-distant future.

  • RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Matt Murdock Getting a New Funko

RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Matt Murdock Getting a New Funko

Here’s some fun news for Funko collectors and fans of Spider-Man: No Way Home, as there may be a new addition heading our way in the near future. @funkomarvelnews has shared a listing from an upcoming Pop! Vinyl figure that would feature Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock. That’s not the only thing, as it’ll even pay homage to the iconic scene of his return, as he’ll also have the brick with him that he caught before it could hit Peter.

It was only a question of time once the spoiler characters would get their own Funko Pops – even if there’s still a strange absence of villain-focused Funko’s from Sony. The other two Spider-Men are likely the next in line to get their own additions, but we haven’t heard anything concrete on them as of now. So, we can only see if another listing finds it way online that hints at their arrival.

Matt Murdock was still one of the best surprises in an already EAster egg-filled film. We don’t know yet where exactly he’ll show up next – She-Hulk is still the likeliest of candidates – but his return does bode well for more of the Netflix characters arriving in the mainline MCU. Here’s hoping we find out soon with some teases, especially as these shows make their way to Disney+.

  • Kirsten Dunst Says “There’s Still Time” on a Return as Mary Jane in a Future Marvel Film

Kirsten Dunst Says “There’s Still Time” on a Return as Mary Jane in a Future Marvel Film

Spider-Man: No Way Home was filled to the brim with iconic characters from Spider-Man‘s cinematic history. Still, one film can’t cover every single character that was ever cast in a Spidey-related role. Even early on, there were many theories that Emma Stone and Kirsten Dunst would make their return, but that didn’t end up happening. Yet, in an interview with Deadline, Dunst was asked if she was interested to return and she had the following to say:

    There’s still time.

    Kirsten Dunst

Of course, anyone would take that information and feel like she might be teasing an eventual return. We still have Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on the horizon. LEGO set even may have hinted at Spider-Man reappearing in the film, but she goes on to highlight that “no one asked” her about returning. Her full quote is as follows:

I mean, listen, no one asked me about a thing. I do think, I mean this multiverse thing keeps going on and on. I feel like that could happen.

    Kirsten Dunst

We have theorized that the multiverse may be ending earlier than later, but she makes a good point. Who knows when or who might appear at some point in the MCU’s upcoming multiversal expansion. We’ll see if she might join at one point, but she certainly is open to returning. Perhaps she and Tobey Maguire‘s Peter Parker get the reunion they’ve long desired. Marvel Studios certainly is having fun bringing some nostalgia into their upcoming projects and it would seem like a nice touch after he mentioned that they were somehow making it work when he returned in No Way Home.

  • Marvel Studios Already Teased the End of the Multiverse Arc

Marvel Studios Already Teased the End of the Multiverse Arc

Avengers: Endgame Director Joe Russo made a great statement earlier today that “too much of one thing is a bad thing.” It was about the current trend of superhero films embracing the multiverse in their storytelling. To be fair, we’ve been quite spoiled with Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s way of handling its multiversal guests from Spider-Man’s cinematic past but not every project will manage that balance. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is just around the corner and has already teased the return of another legacy actor from Marvel. Yet, doesn’t it seem like we’re rushing through it?

The next entry in the MCU’s Multiverse Arc could’ve been dragged out quite a bit with multiple storylines exploring various multiversal scenarios. Even No Way Home could’ve split up its cameos and had one film introduce Andrew Garfield before building up to Tobey Maguire. Even Strange’s next adventure is introducing multiple cameos from across the multiverse in one neat package that is very likely the film’s version of the Illuminati.

They could’ve dragged this out quite a bit more, especially if you consider Loki, the series that kickstarted the multiverse, technically focused primarily on a single character’s “variety.” It eased us into the concept with the TVA, the rules of the concept, and opens the gateways to the fact that the same actor doesn’t have to play every version of the character. It’s strange to think how it eased us into the project before No Way Home just went: “Here are five classic villains, two former Spider-Man actors, and if Strange didn’t do his job there would’ve been millions more!”

It almost seems like the speed-up was on purpose. Yet, not to bank purely on the fact that the nostalgia will be strong with viewers, but to use the concept before it overstays its welcome. Revisiting the series that started it all, you start to realize why they are taking this route. They know exactly where it is heading and are spacing out the project in a way to build up to a film that may even surpass Avengers: Endgame in its size. Even if was indirectly teased, there’s no way it won’t end with a film based on Secret Wars.

The multiverses will collide and Kang the Conqueror is at the center of it all. So, it wouldn’t be too surprising to think that his storyline will end in a Secret War crossover. If we look at time as a flat circle, they are bound to repeat history and a new TVA would be formed in its wake. The Sacred Timeline will once again form only to be destined to break again. Our favorite heroes don’t know it but their stories are trapped in a loop. Even if they win the fight with the future He Who Remains being left behind, the story would still manage to find a nice way to end it.

Once we’ve exited the Secret Wars event, we might continue the stories of the various heroes, but the multiverse will no longer be a focal point moving forward. While it’s unclear if it’ll take three phases to get to that point, it seems that Marvel Studios has unshackled itself from a single overarching narrative but rather splitting up multiple roads. One thing is for sure, we already know where this one path will end and it seems that we’re on an express train towards it before it loses any momentum.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Digital Preorder Sales Surpass ‘Avengers: Endgame’

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Digital Preorder Sales Surpass ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Well, it’s pretty clear that Spider-Man: No Way Home is a powerhouse in and out of theaters. Media Play News has revealed that the pre-order sales for Marvel Studios’ third entry in the franchise has become Vudu’s top-selling preorder title of all time. It is set to release on March 22nd, which means it can only go up from here. As such, it has also beaten Avengers: Endgame in preorder sales and has left its mark as one of the hottest releases.

The film’s sales have been quite impressive and it does seem like the film is carrying over the excitement that fans had seen their favorite Spider-Man actors appear on the screen. There’s something special about owning that film and being able to revisit it again, even if you’ve probably spent way too much time in theaters rewatching the film over and over again.

It does make you wonder just how well Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may perform. The film is not only teasing some well-known characters from Marvel’s cinematic past but also builds directly out of one of the most popular films since 2019. There’s a good chance that its release may rival the Spidey threequel, but only time will tell.

  • Sony Reveals Digital, UHD/Blu-ray Release Dates for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Sony Reveals Digital, UHD/Blu-ray Release Dates for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

With rumors recently circulating that an extended cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home might make its way back to theaters in Indonesia, concern grew that fans would have to wait quite a while before being able to view the film in the comfort of their home. Thankfully, Sony put an end to all the speculation and revealed exactly when fans will be able to push play.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be available for purchase on digital platforms on March 22nd with physical copies going sale three weeks later on April 12th.

The film currently sits as the third highest-grossing film domestically, ahead of Avatar but still behind Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens. It’s most recent predecessor, Spider-Man: Far From Home, raked in nearly $47M in Blu-ray sales, and it’s likely that No Way Home will move just as well, continuing to pad Sony’s bottom line on the film.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings Past ‘Avatar’ to Become Third Highest Grossing Film Ever

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings Past ‘Avatar’ to Become Third Highest Grossing Film Ever

In its 10th week in theaters, Spider-Man: No Way Home has climbed to third all-time on the lifetime domestic gross charts, passing 2009’s Avatar. The Marvel Studios and Sony collaborative project now trails only Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens on the all-time U.S. charts.

Avatar is still king worldwide, however, and No Way Home‘s climb into the top 3 on that chart seems a bit more challenging as it currently sits in 6th place, over $200M away from catching Avengers: Infinity War.

Any way you cut it, the film was a major success for Sony and may eventually outgross the combined box offices of the next two highest grossing Spider-Man films (2002’s Spider-Man and 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home) which total up to around $797.5M. The success of the film has already spurred Marvel and Sony forward into a renewed partnership and development on a 4th installment in the MCU-set franchise has already begun.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes 1.8B Worldwide, as ‘Uncharted’ Starts Strong Internationally

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes 1.8B Worldwide, as ‘Uncharted’ Starts Strong Internationally

Uncharted, the next Tom Holland-led project by Sony, won’t release until next week in the domestic market, but some lucky international ones already got their hands on it. It looks like the film is off to a strong start as Holland and Mark Wahlberg‘s video game adaptation as it took the top spot in the 15 markets it released. It now stands at $21.5M and is tracking ahead of Eternals, Black Widow, and Shang-Chi in those markets. Though, as Forbes points out these types of films have stronger legs internationally than domestically.

Sadly, it seems Death on the Nile only took in $12.8M at the box office, which is less than half of the previous entry’s $28.8M. It may have been hit the hardest from COVID, as it seemed like a sure-fire hit at the box office given the first’s popularity and better reviews. The other disappointment of the weekend was the $8M income from Marry Me starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, which may have been hit by its simultaneous release on Peacock. Seems Lopez couldn’t carry over the momentum from Hustlers.

In heroic news, Spider-Man: No Way Home still remains one of the most resistant box office performers in such unlikely times. It took in $11M over the weekend internationally and $7.1M domestically. As of now, the film has earned $1.8B worldwide and it is the biggest-grossing film without having ever been released in China, which seemed to be on the horizon but suddenly fell silent after some time. We’ll see if a belated release might push it over $2B but that seems more and more unlikely now. Still, the film’s success is nothing to scoff at.

  • ‘Daredevil’s Charlie Cox Knows “A Little Bit” About His And Vincent D’Onofrio’s MCU Future

‘Daredevil’s Charlie Cox Knows “A Little Bit” About His And Vincent D’Onofrio’s MCU Future

It’s a renaissance for fans of the Netflix Daredevil series, as Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio finally made their return. Even better, they started interacting with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe as they appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye. Of course, the first thing everyone had on their mind is when they might finally interact again, as you can’t just reintroduce both without their ongoing conflict making a grand return. Luckily, Charlie Cox has teased that he may know a “little bit” about what the future has in store for them:

Look, I don’t have any idea what anyone’s plans are at this stage, but I presume there’s more for us to do. I know a little bit — not a huge amount — but a little bit. I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we’ve done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he’s such an incredible actor. We have to start every conversation with, ‘What do you know?’ because you have to be careful. It’s really exciting

    Charlie Cox

He’s quite a tease, but there do seem to be big plans for the character in the MCU’s future. It’s not a surprise given just how popular Cox‘s run made the character, especially with the Daredevil series being one of the streaming service’s biggest jumping-off points to establish itself with strong storytelling. We still don’t know how they might tackle the continuation of their story, especially with how iconic the last confrontation is during the finale of the third season. So, we’ll see if their eventual reunion might clear up what exactly happened since.
