  • Madame Web Will Be Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Doctor Strange

Madame Web Will Be Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Doctor Strange

Sony is still moving forward with their expanded universe that is building around Spider-Man rather than using him as a jumping-off point. The news just broke that Euphoria‘s breakout star Sydney Sweeny was joining the project in an unnamed role. Yet, there was another big reveal hidden away, as it seems that they have big plans for Dakota Johnson‘s Madame Web. According to Deadline, she will be Sony’s equivalent to Doctor Strange due to her psychic sensory powers.

Strange has previously appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and it may have sparked the idea to explore some magical-based storytelling in their own universe. Plus, his upcoming adventure through the multiverse may have also made the easy connection. It does make you wonder if Multiverse of Madness also has him temporarily landing in this alternative cinematic universe to meet her before venturing on. Web could be a Variant of Strange if they want to make a loose connection.

Of course, there’s still the question of what Spider-Man might become the focus of this spinoff universe, as they now have three to choose from. At first, many thought Tom Holland might end up lost in this new universe but he remained in the MCU even as everyone forgot who he is. We’ll have to see what the future has in store for him and this new universe.

  • ‘Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Joins Dakota Johnson-Led ‘Madame Web’

‘Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Joins Dakota Johnson-Led ‘Madame Web’

Sony is moving full force with their upcoming Madame Web film, as it seems they’ve now added Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeny to star alongside Dakota Johnson in the Spider-Man spinoff. The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson based on a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Kerem Sanga had worked on a previous draft. As you might guess, her role is still kept under wraps and the only thing we know is that she’ll be a co-star alongside Johnson.

It’s quite the big get for Sony, as she is hot off HBO’s second-most show just behind Game of Thrones. Sweeny also was quite the focus in the latest season, which put her on many studios’ top lists. She’s been quite the popular fan cast for various Spider-Man roles, but I doubt anyone expected her to join Sony’s universe as most had their money on Marvel studios trying to nab her for an upcoming project.

Still, it seems that the opportunity to work with Johnson was what inspired her decision. Plus, it’ll be the first female-centric film from the Spider-Man spinoffs, which could also be quite the draw. It’ll be interesting to see if other familiar faces from across the Spider-Verse make an appearance given Madame Web’s abilities. Perhaps they are using this as a jumping-off point for a live-action adaptation of the popular comic by the same name.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Reveals Alternative Goblin Glider

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Reveals Alternative Goblin Glider

As Spider-Man: No Way Home is about to hit digital and it seems like more and more artwork is finding its way online. We just recently got a first look at an alternative design for the Lizard, and it seems that the Green Goblin also almost featured a very different glider. While Norman Osborne ditches his mask in the film, it seems that one version of the script may have seen him stitch it back together and plant it firmly on the glider, as revealed in some artwork by Josh Nizzi.

What makes this version of the Glider stand out is that it’s actually put together by different elements from past Spidey films. It would not only include Stark tech but even be built based on some of Mysterio’s drones. The mask was an addition to pay tribute to the original design, but sadly it seems that Willem Dafoe didn’t get a chance to ride this great variation of the glider in the final film.

Sadly, we don’t know what lead to them scrapping this idea, but it seems likely that having to explain how he got his hands on this tech might’ve just complicated an already stuffed-to-the-brim film. It would’ve brought the Damage Control unit back who vanish after their introduction earlier in the film, but it would only detract from the emotional build-up between the three Spider-Men in the film. So, sometimes cuts have to be made to ensure the flow of the film remains.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch Improvised a Major Moment in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Benedict Cumberbatch Improvised a Major Moment in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Spider-Man: No Way Home is no longer a secret. All of the surprises, cameos, details, and moments from the massively succesful film came to light when it was released in December. Three months later, the cast and crew are talking more about the making of the movie ahead of its digital release on March 15. While a lot of attention is still on Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s appearances as their respective Spider-Men, Benedict Cumberbatch has has plenty to say with respect to his experience on set and Doctor Strange’s role in the film.

In an interview with Collider, Cumberbatch revealed that he improvised one of Doctor Strange’s most memorable moments and one of the film’s most emotional. While praising director Jon Watts’ ability to adapt, the actor described how he decided to alter the scene where Peter Parker chooses to have the world forget him:

There was this one moment near the end of the film, where we were really trying to make that moment work, at the top of the Statue of Liberty. Tom [Holland] was having a tough time with the script, as it was before the reshoots. And then, we did the reshoots and I came up with this idea of, to show that I love him, I didn’t want him to make the sacrifice of being forgotten. He was like, ‘That’s gonna be in the film.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool. That’s great.’

    Benedict Cumberbatch

The moment in No Way Home that Cumberbatch describes is a memorable one. While Doctor Strange spent much of the film as a somewhat stoic mentor or helping hand, the moment where he shows a sense of loss at the thought of forgetting Peter highlights the emotional tone of the ambitious movie and makes Peter’s decision all that more impactful. Cumberbatch also revealed that his interest in improvising was influenced by his time on the set of Avengers: Infinity War:

You throw yourself out there in those huge sand pits. The remarkable thing I learned from Tom Holland and RDJ on Infinity War was seeing how at ease he was, just in improvising about Aunt May with Robert Downey Jr. He did this thing which wasn’t scripted at all. I’m quite a canon guy. It’s about the text for me. To be free with that and to have some maneuverability in it and to be able to improvise, and on such a large canvas, was a real eye-opener.

Fans can refresh their own memories of No Way Home when it makes its digital release on March 15. Audiences can also look forward to seeing more of Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters May 6, 2022.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch Promises ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is “On the Level of” ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Benedict Cumberbatch Promises ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is “On the Level of” ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

We’re already in March and while Moon Knight is just around the corner, all eyes are still on the next multiversal chapter with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Quite a few MCU projects have been teasing the storyline, but Benedict Cumberbatch will finally take a step into the multiverse after keeping it from collapsing after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While there are quite a few rumors making the rounds, we know very little about the film’s story and Cumberbatch promises that “it’s a big, big movie.” He even goes on to compare it to No Way Home.

It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand

    Benedict Cumberbacht
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness – exclusive

After the first trailer gave us a glimpse of a popular character from the 20th Century Fox franchise making a return, the comparison is well-deserved. Most of the latest Spidey film’s marketing was focused on the returning faces while keeping quite a few elements hidden. Marvel Studios took that to a new level with the hint at Ultron bots, which would imply the return of a Variant of Tony Stark, someone fighting Wanda with Captain Marvel-like abilities, and a very familiar voice.

There’s a lot riding on the project, and who knows how it may further expand the multiverse afterward, especially with hints that the events of Loki were building up to an adaptation of Secret Wars. Strange might be at the center of everything moving forward, and this journey into the insanity that is the multiverse might be the only thing that’ll ensure that it doesn’t fully break down and unleash even worse nightmares.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to Release Digitally a Week Early

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to Release Digitally a Week Early

Here’s a nice surprise, but it looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home is getting released digitally a week early. So, the wait won’t be as long with the film now releasing on March 15th. The news was just shared by Fandango’s Erik Davis and comes hot off the heels of a digital HD version of the film leaking online. It seems that the early release was also accidentally leaked earlier by the Apple store as noticed by The Direct.

Of course, one can’t complain that we’re getting access to one of the biggest films since the pandemic started from the comfort of our home. It’ll be interesting to see how well it sells, as the nostalgia-filled romp through Spidey’s cinematic history will definitely be on everyone’s must-have list. The physical release sadly didn’t get an earlier release, but that could change as time goes on.

No Way Home somehow managed to balance a heartfelt and empowering story with many moments of nostalgic bliss. The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield probably managed to push the film even more, as many wanted to confirm if the countless leaks were true or not. We’ll see what the special features may reveal that almost made its way into the film.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured a Comic-Accurate Lizard

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured a Comic-Accurate Lizard

There’s something rather fun about looking back at a film and how it may have changed throughout production. Spider-Man: No Way Home is no exception, as concept art finding its way online offering a glimpse at how they brought the designs from previous Spider-Man films to a new era. Yet, it seems that one of the members may have looked quite a bit different.

The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Lizard makes his return after Rhys Ifans played the character back in 2012. He had the same design in the threequel, but it seems that they’ve considered giving him a more comic-accurate design at some point. Ian Joyner shared some artwork offering a glimpse at a very different Lizard wearing his purple pants, lab coat, and a stronger reptilian face.

The design looks great but probably wouldn’t have fit with the character talking throughout the film. Plus, you do lose that charm of his original design as they changed quite a bit with Elektro. So, it would be a shame if both Andrew Garfield‘s villains got a complete redesign while Tobey Maguire‘s remained mostly the same. Hopefully, we do get to see a horror-themed film with Spidey as he takes down Lizard. He is about to enter college and meet a new Dr. Curt Conners and knowing what happens to him, it seems like Parker would be the one to accidentally push him to still end up the way he would throughout the multiverse.

  • Christopher Abbott Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as its Main Villain

Christopher Abbott Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as its Main Villain

Sony has been on a roll with their casting for the upcoming Kraven the Hunter spinoff film, which will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role. It looks like they have now found its main villain in Christopher Abbott, who will play The Foreigner, one of Spider-Man’s iconic villains. Alessandro Nivola has also recently joined the project in a villainous role but seems like it’ll be mainly a supporting antagonist role from the looks of it.

We don’t know how the film will tackle Kraven’s early days and if it somehow builds up towards his eventual hunt for the Spider-Man. Abbott joined a cast consisting of Ariana DeBose, previously-mentioned Nivola, Fred Hechinger, and Russell Crowe. It’s quite the stacked cast for J.C. Chandor‘s next feature film based on a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

The addition of The Foreigner is quite interesting, as the character isn’t among the most well-known characters from Spider-man’s rogue gallery. He does actually have a history with Kraven in the comics, and his brother the Chameleon. Deadline seems to think this might be the set-up for the character moving forward, who might have a larger role moving forward. Abbott recently got a Golden Globe nomination for his work on Catch-22, and is a great addition to the cast.

  • Charlie Cox Shares His Thoughts on The MCU Canonicity of the Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Series

Charlie Cox Shares His Thoughts on The MCU Canonicity of the Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Series

There have been many debates on whether the Netflix Marvel series like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and more are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The recent arrival of Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox seemed to hint at it, but it looks like the Daredevil actor has his own opinion on how Marvel Studios should tackle it. While he doesn’t think they should completely skip on the events of the story, their stories should be reimagined moving forward. His full quote from a panel at the Middle East Film and Comic Con in Abu Dhabi on the matter is:

In keeping with a lot of things in the MCU … It’s a good moment to have a few years [pass] … it’s reimagined. It’s slightly different … It’s ‘born again’.

    Charlie Cox

The iconic quote is definitely something he enjoys using, as he also used it in reference to the series’ joining Disney+. The inclusion of D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk with the ability to take an arrow to the chest and act as if he was only briefly poked by a needle. He seems quite a bit more powerful than before and Hawkeye seems to know who he is but tries to avoid mentioning his name. He was quite the public figure in Daredevil, which made no one realize who he is a bit odd. Yet, the way the story works, it could still keep bits and pieces from the original Netflix series. We’ll see if their future return calls back to the Netflix series moving forward.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Offers Best Look Yet at the Film’s Final Suit

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Offers Best Look Yet at the Film’s Final Suit

Ryan Meinerding, who is the Creative Director and Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, took to his Instagram account to share a full look at the final costume worn by Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker in the final moments of the film. After leaving the Stark-designed costumes behind, his new costume was homemade but still took in some inspirations from not only his original costume but also the ones that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield wore.

The design still looks fantastic, especially how it embraces the original red-and-blue that made the character iconic. While personally, the blue material stuck out a bit during the sequence, you can clearly see the inspiration and why they went in that direction. It is a shame that the films are moving away from the unique Spidey symbol they had throughout the initial trilogy, but it makes sense that he wants to rebrand after leaving everything behind.

AS the costume is handmade by Peter Parker, we shouldn’t expect as many neat gimmicks in future entries. He’ll likely have to build whatever he needs to take on specific villains, but we’re still waiting for any clear news of what the future has in store for the character. Kevin Feige did hint that we’ll get a fourth entry in the franchise, but it’s still a question of time for when that might be.
