  • ‘Severance: Star Tramell Tillman Casts Doubt on the Nature of His Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

‘Severance: Star Tramell Tillman Casts Doubt on the Nature of His Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

In August, trade reports indicated that Severance and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning star Tramell Tillman joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Initially, the word that Tillman was set to join the fourth installment of the Spidey franchise as a villain; however, months into filming, Tillman’s role remains a mystery and now the star has called into question the veracity of those early reports.

In a brief interview with Variety, Tillman played coy about his role while responding to a question about his potentially villainous character by asking, “Who says I’m playing a villain?”.

Interestingly, despite never having been caught on location yet, Tillman revealed he’s already begun work on the film, scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

I’m told that Marvel has a plan to say goodbye to Kang. They’re going to wrap him up. I think they want to give him the boot just to put to bed any…I think they’re going to deal with Kang somehow. A small little thing… probably in one of the Avengers movies. I’ve heard Doctor Doom could be the one who kills him.

    -Jeff “The In” Sneider

While reports from early 2025 claimed that Tillman was set to take over the role of Kang from Jonathan Majors, more recent insider buzz has made an effort to discredit the idea. Truly, yet another villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems like overkill with Tombstone, Scorpion and, allegedly, Sadie Sink‘s shape-shifting character set to antagonize Spidey while he’ll also have to deal with both a rampaging Hulk and The Punisher.

Given the expansive roster of interesting characters in Spidey’s orbit, there’s no doubt that Tillman would be a far greater asset to the MCU as a character–ally or enemy–who can carry on beyond a one-off appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

  • BTS Photos of Sadie Sink from the Set of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Lead to Wild(ly Wrong) Speculation

BTS Photos of Sadie Sink from the Set of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Lead to Wild(ly Wrong) Speculation

Since Stranger Things and The Whale star Sadie Sink was cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in March, rumors and speculation about her potential role have led covered a wide range of Marvel characters. Before she joined the cast of the new Spidey film, industry insider Jeff “The In” Sneider had Sink pegged as a front runner for the MCU’s Jean Grey. Once she was cast, Sneider floated the possibility of her portraying an alternate-universe Gwen Stacey before more recently claiming he was “still hearing” Sink was indeed cast as Grey.

Of course, Sneider has also claimed he’s been told she was playing Mary Jane Watson while other insiders have heard she was cast as Mayday Parker, the daughter of Toby Maguire‘s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst‘s MJ from Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy. Outside of those, there are still other intriguing options on the table for a young, ginger actress, who was finally spotted on set recently… kicking off an entire new wave of wild(ly wrong) speculation.

After X user @UnBoxPHD shared shots of Sink on the UK set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a new theory about who she may be playing has taken hold despite it going against everything that is known about the character.

The single shot of Sink seen above has led to theories that she will be playing Rachel Cole, a former Marine sergeant and ally of The Punisher. However, while it is accurate that Frank Castle will have someone by his side in the film, descriptions of  Castle’s sidekick shared by multiple insiders have indicated the character is played by an unknown Black actress.

While Rachel Cole is a fascinating character–and also a ginger–the widley-shared reports about Sink’s role call into question that she’d be playing Cole. On my end, I’ve heard that Castle’s sidekick is indeed played by a Black actress; additionally, I’ve heard from two separate sources that Sink’s character is not who she appears to be, which has led me down a rabbit hole of my own.

Opinion only, I have begun to believe that Sink could be playing Lily Hollister or a character who incorporates the important twists of Hollister into the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

In the comics, Hollister discovered one of Norman Osborn’s hidden Goblin lairs. Given what we do and do not know about Osborn’s time in the MCU’s Earth-616 in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the idea that he established lairs around the city cannot be discounted. Eventually, Hollister was able to “shift her shape” and become a Goblin at will.

Given that audiences have no idea what Willem Dafoe‘s Norman got up to during his trip to Earth-616, it does not seem impossible that he set up a pair or two around NYC during his time.

However, until we get more concrete evidence, we’re happy to say we have no idea who Sink will be, though it is clear she’s playing someone of significance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day which hits theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Video Sets Off Speculation on the Identity of Liza Colón-Zayas’ Role

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Video Sets Off Speculation on the Identity of Liza Colón-Zayas’ Role

Since Tom Holland returned to the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, photos and videos from the set have indicated that one of the film’s major set pieces will involve Michael Mando‘s Mac Gargan being pursued by Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle. Recently, Mando was spotted on set exiting a helicopter in the same prison gear he was wearing at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Fans have generated plenty of theories about what might happen in that scene, including the potential for the adaptation of an incredible action sequence based on a portion of a scene from a video game but whatever the case, it looks like the aftermath will be nothing short of disastrous.

A new behind the scenes video shared by X user @batuhansafakk shows Spidey working with first responders in the midst of a significant mess in the streets. At one point during the footage, a female police officer approaches Spider-Man and the two have an extended conversation. Even given the distance from which the footage was recorded, it seems clear that the actress working with Holland is Liza Colón-Zayas, who was cast in the film earlier this year. And given that she’s a police officer working closely with Spidey, speculation about the identity of her character has taken off.

When she was originally cast, fans speculated that Colón-Zayas may end up playing Miles Morales mother, Rio. Now, thanks to online scooper My Time To Shine Hello, a new theory has taken hold and it does indeed track with Marvel Studios and Sony setting Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the streets.

MTTSH believes Colón-Zayas could be playing NYPD Detective Jean DeWolff, an ally of Spidey’s created by Bill Mantl and first introduced in 1976’s Marvel Team-Up #48. The two formed a close working relationship over the years and her death at the hands of her partner Stan Carter, the Sin-Eater, took a major toll on the Web-Slinger. In the Ultimate Universe, DeWolff worked with Spidey but was ultimately revealed to be a pawn of the Kingpin.

Should Colón-Zayas indeed be playing a version of DeWolff, she’ll be this version of Spidey’s first NYPD ally and could end up as a recurring character, setting up an adaptation of Peter David‘s four-part “The Death of Jean DeWolff” arc, considered one of the best Spidey stories of all time.

  • Rumor: ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Feature a Classic Marvel Team-Up

Rumor: ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Feature a Classic Marvel Team-Up

Since Kevin Feige pushed Daredevil and Spidey as the MCU’s cornerstone street-level heroes in 2022, the two New York-based vigilantes have yet to cross paths in a live-action MCU project. While all the details aren’t exactly crystal clear, Marvel’s contract with Sony seems to prevent Spider-Man from appearing in Daredevil: Born Again, which means a team up between the two can only take place on the big screen. That’s how Charlie Cox was able to appear as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home but as fun as the cameo was, it wasn’t as exciting as seeing Spidey and DD swing across the NYC skyline…but that might be coming sooner than we all thought.

Spidey franchise star Tom Holland recently made it clear that he and director Destin Daniel Cretton have been working hard to make sure that Spider-Man: Brand New Day gives fans what they want from a Spider-Man movie. And if Holland truly has “been active sifting through the internet ” to find out what that is, he has certainly found plenty of fans looking forward to Spider-Man and Daredevil working together. Now, a new rumor claims that the pair will indeed feature the classic Marvel Team-Up.

The rumor comes via Nuke the Fridge, not a site well-known for dropping this kind of news, as the author of the article points out.

According to the site, a reliable source casually let skip that “Charlie [Cox] will be heading over there to film Spider-Man.

Given what is currently known about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it truly makes more sense to have Cox‘s Daredevil swing into the action than to leave him out. A plot featuring The Punisher–who Daredevil knows all too well–hunting down street-level baddies, crime bosses purportedly vying for control of New York with Kingpin off the board and a rampaging Hulk destroying “his city” would all certainly attract the attention of the Man Without Fear.

Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now underway in the UK and Cox does appear to have some time open in his schedule before an appearance at NYCC on October 11th and 12th where he’ll be part of the Marvel Television panel. Given the volume of stunt work an appearance by Daredevil would likely entail, 10 days or so might provide plenty of time for Cox to do his part and allow his stunt double to do the rest, as has been the case for Holland for much of what’s been filmed. So yeah, a rumor for sure, but one that certainly makes quite a bit of sense and would elevate the hype for a film that’s already generating enormous excitement.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rumor Puts [SPOILER] in The Punisher’s Crosshairs

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rumor Puts [SPOILER] in The Punisher’s Crosshairs

Though it won’t include Kingpin, it is starting to sound as though Spider-Man: Brand New Day may indeed feature a “street-level civil war” as it has long-beem rumored to do. Marvel Studios Big Cheese Kevin Feige made it clear that the studio wanted Daredevil and Spidey to lead its street-level efforts and from what can be gleaned about the plot of the fourth installment in the franchise, that’s exactly what’s happening. And even if the two characters don’t seem destined to interact in the new film, there does seem to be some narrative crossover thanks to Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle taking on a major role.

We’ve got the supernatural angles, we’ve got the street-level with our announcement of Daredevil, and of course, Spidey going into the street-level heroes.

    -Kevin Feige, SDCC ’23

Though it’s only speculation for now, it tracks that the events of The Punisher Special Presentation and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will take place following the events of Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, the conclusion of which may have been spoiled through set photos which seem to indicate Daredevil and “his army” have taken Wilson Fisk off the board. If that’s true and the Kingpin is no longer running the show in NYC, plenty of other baddies, like Ma Gnucci, might start trying to get their piece, giving Castle plenty of purpose.

A Kingpin-sized power vacuum would also provide a reasonable explanation for why Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be chock-full of so many of Spidey’s sinister foes. And a new report from a trusted insider reveals that Castle will have a major beef with one of those street-level tough guys.

According to Daniel Richtman, “Punisher and Tombstone will be in direct conflict,” in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

After voicing the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvin Jones III is set to bring Alonzo “Lonnie” Lincoln to life in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and will certainly pose a challenge to Castle, who is also rumored to be trying to take out Michael Mando‘s Mac Gargan in the film. While there are still plenty of unknowns, it sounds as though director Destin Daniel Cretton and Spidey star Tom Holland are cooking up something special for fans.

  • ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ Star Joins the Cast of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

‘Into the Spider-Verse’ Star Joins the Cast of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

In May, a report from journalist Chris Higashi, who was in attendance at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation, revealed a significant amount of information about the villains and plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Though it was met with heavy skepticism as the time, Higashi claimed that the presentation revealed a trip of villains set to menace the Web-Slinger in the new film: Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone.

With Michael Mando back as Mac Gargan, Scorpion is a lock and now, as production continues in the UK, another of those three baddies has been confirmed.

According to Deadline, Marvin Jones III has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Tombstone, The Horror of Harlem.

Jones voiced Tombstone in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and also has experience as a live-action baddie after playing DC kingpin Tobias Whale in the CW’s Black Lightning.

  • Mark Ruffalo Addresses the Savage Hulk’s Reported Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Mark Ruffalo Addresses the Savage Hulk’s Reported Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

In January, buzz around Mark Ruffalo filling a sizeable role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day began to grow after a rumor suggesting Spidey and Punisher would team up to take on the Hulk. The story gained new life in May, when Nexus Point News reported that Ruffalo was set to co-star in the film and reports from a Disney presentation revealed the Hulk would serve as “the villain” of the new Spidey film.

To date, there’s been no official word from Marvel or Sony and Ruffalo was not seen on set in Glasgow, Scotland when the film began production. With production having moved mostly indoors, it’s possible Ruffalo may never be seen “on set” to confirm his role but the actor was asked about the rumors in a recent red carpet interview with ET Online.

I don’t know, I’m still waiting to hear. I haven’t read a script yet,” said Ruffalo when he was approached about his return to the role.

If it does happen, it would be incredible,” laughed the star. “I grew up with this, and it’s changed my life in the best ways. Each time, it’s a new director, a new world, and it’s so exciting. There’s nothing else like it. A TV show doesn’t change its world from one director to the next, and that’s what is exciting.

Based on what’s been seen and shared so far, Tom Holland and new Spidey franchise director Destin Daniel Cretton seem to have something special cooking in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which looks to diverge significantly from the previous MCU-set Spider-Man films. Adding a rampaging Hulk to the already long list of problems Holland’s Wall-Crawler will face in the film might make for one of the Multiverse Saga’s best projects, if not one of its most action-packed.

  • Marvel Rumored to Have Filled Another Villainous ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day ‘ Role with MCU Veteran Actress

Marvel Rumored to Have Filled Another Villainous ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day ‘ Role with MCU Veteran Actress

UPDATE: Jeff Sneider has since reported that Carrie Coon will NOT have a role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Despite an already heavy roster of baddies for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man to tangle with in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a new report indicates he’ll have at least one more. According to industry insider Jeff “The In” Sneider, Carrie Coon has joined the cast of the film as yet another villain.

Coon voiced Black Order general Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War and What If…? but, according to her husband, parted ways with Marvel when the studio refused to increase her salary for Avengers: Endgame. Though Sneider did not reveal the identity of Coon‘s character, it’s possible she may be filling the role that actresses Sarah Snook and Nicole Kidman were once believed to be up for rather than returning as a Child of Thanos.

There’s this villain no one knows anything about,” teased Sneider. “I don’t know if it’s true. I have no idea. I haven’t vetted it at all,” befire adding that to date, nobody has filled that role. “I heard a name. What if, Carrie Coon is the villain?” Following that, Sneider claimed that another source gave the rumor some credence.

When Snook was believed to be in talks, theories for the role ranged from the Hydra terrorist Viper to a genderbent Norman Osborn. If it’s the latter, it might also open up the possibility that Sadie Sink, who recently landed in Glasgow to begin filming, could be playing an Osborn as well, introducing native Earth-616 goblins to the MCU.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was recently described as “the biggest Spidey movie yet,” drawing comparisons to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Production on the fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise is currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland ahead of an expected July 31, 2026 release.

  • Insider Compares ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to One of Marvel Studios’ Best Films

Insider Compares ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to One of Marvel Studios’ Best Films

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already generated a ton of hype as production has gotten underway in Glasgow, Scotland. With Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink and Michael Mando among those joining Tom Holland in the film, fans are buzzing about the project while also trying to deduce just what might be going on in it. With a handful of street-level villains, a raging Punisher and a rampaging Hulk, it seems as though Peter Parker will find himself in quite a predicament no matter which way he turns, meaning fans can expect quite a bit of action. And according new report from one of the busiest scoopers in the game, the action in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s flick may be on par with one of Marvel Studios’ best films.

Social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello, who seems to be dialed in on what’s happening on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has compared the film to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the biggest Spidey movie yet,” claimed MTTSH. “Despite being more ‘street-level,’ it’s even been described to me as Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Spider-Man.

While the social media scooper was not clear on exactly how the fourth installment in the Spidey franchise might resemble the 2014 sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, it still lands as incredibly high praise and may raise expectations even further for the film. The Winter Soldier was a game changer both for the MCU and for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers; if Brand New Day delivers the same, status quo-changing dynamic as the spy thriller, fans will be riding a massive wave of energy into Avengers: Doomsday.

Directed by the Russo brothers, the film is a masterclass in action and suspense. The hand-to-hand combat is brutal and visceral, a stark contrast to the more fantastical battles of other MCU films. The Winter Soldier not only redefined Captain America’s character but also reshaped the entire MCU. Its events had massive ripple effects, fundamentally altering the landscape of the cinematic universe and paving the way for future stories like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil WarAvengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It’s a crucial piece of the puzzle, a thrilling standalone film, and a testament to Marvel’s willingness to take risks with its characters and its storytelling.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Michael Mando Doubles Down on Mac Gargan’s Venomous Role

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Michael Mando Doubles Down on Mac Gargan’s Venomous Role

Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks set to have plenty of villains looking to tangle Tom Holland‘s Wall-Crawler. Several months ago, a report claimed that Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and Scorpion were set for the new film, as was Mac Gargan, first played by Michael Mando in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

To date, none of those villains have been seen taking on Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man on set, though rumors persist that the tank chase scene filmed during the project’s first week in production did indeed feature Mando’s Gargan. For his part, Mando–whose last MCU appearance was in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming–used social media to tease a monstrous turn for his character and now, ahead of a scheduled action scene that would feature Spidey squaring up with Gargan, Mando has once again teased his character’s transformation into Scorpion and Venom.

Following Mando’s initial tease, we theorized that Gargan could play an incredibly large role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including bonding with the fragment of the symbiote that Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock left behind during his visit to the Sacred Timeline. Mando’s latest IG story not only teases Gargan’s transformation into Venom but does so using a picture that also shows the character in his Scorpion suit, which has yet to be seen in live-action.

Gargan’s role in the film will likely spin out of the end credit scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which he hoped to learn the identity of the Wall-Crawler from Michael Keaton‘s Adrian Toomes while the two were in prison. By the time Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters, it will have been nearly a decade since that scene took place so it’ll be interesting to learn what Gargan has been up to in the meantime.
