‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Episode 1 Primer

Famous Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Boba Fett, is finally getting the spotlight in his own show. The series The Book of Boba Fett streams tomorrow on Disney+! After being briefly teased in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, Boba played a key role in Season 2. He reclaimed his armor and helped Din Djarin protect Grogu before heading back to Tatooine and forcefully taking the former throne of Jabba The Hutt, with Fennec Shand by his side. That is where we will find him at the beginning of Episode 1.

Boba Fett will be trying to transition from bounty hunter to crime lord and this road he’s going down is going to be a little bit rockier than he thought. So what’s in store for Boba as the series goes on? Lucasfilm has been especially secretive, refusing to send out media screeners to keep as many secrets protected as possible. However, we do have some idea of what is going to happen thanks to trailers, rumors, and information from the cast.

Star Temuera Morrison has revealed that the show is going to go back in time. In the trailer we can see Boba climbing out of the Sarlacc Pit fans believed he died in during Return of the Jedi. That will give us some idea of how he got back on his and catch us up to the point where we saw him in Season 1 of The Mandalorian. Rumored appearances of other Empire-era bounty hunters, Crimson Dawn and even Luke Skywalker have made their way through fandom, but with fewer than 12 hours to go, we truly don’t know what to expect.

Based on what we can see in the trailers, Boba and Fennec are going to have to do a lot of fighting despite Boba’s wishes to the contrary. They are also going to meet a few of the galaxies most dangerous bounty hunters along the way, not all of whom are friends with Boba. Given Lucasfilm’s secrecy we should expect Grogu-sized suprises.

RUMOR: ‘Monsters at Work’s Studio Working on Lucasfilm Project, Potentially ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’

Not too long ago, we’ve noticed that a new Star Wars project may have accidentally leaked through a Lucasfilm’s employee gift. Alongside the logos of already announced projects, there’s the inclusion of something titled Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. We’ve never heard of this project before and it opened the floodgates of what it might be about. Well, it seems some clever Redditors have potentially found an answer.

User CommanderVisor has noticed that ICON Creative Studios is employing people for an unannounced animated project. The studio is well-known for its animated projects targeted at a younger audience, which includes The Rocketeer, Elena of Avaltor, and more. They’ve also worked on Disney+’s recent Monsters Inc. sequel, Monsters at Work.

Of course, there’s no concrete confirmation, and even The Bespin Bulletin is mainly speculating it might be this project. Yet, it seems possible that the project they are working on is the unannounced Tales of the Jedi. We’ll have to take it with a grain of salt until there’s a clearer confirmation, but it seems like Lucasfilm is trying to also cater to a younger audience with this new offering.

RUMOR: ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’ Project Leaked Through Lucasfilm’s Employee Gift

You never know what may get revealed in one form or another. Crew merch has always been a good indicator of what we can expect from a project. Well, it seems that a new employee gift from Lucasfilm has hinted at a rather curious addition. It seems that they may be working on a project inspired by the book series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.

The gift of a classic record player came in a box from Lucasfilm Ltd. It has the company’s logo on it alongside the various projects in development that include The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Indiana Jones 5, and more.

What sticks out is that alongside Willow, The Bad Batch, and Visions, there’s a new logo for the before-mentioned project that has not officially been announced yet.

We’ll see if we get an announcement in the near future, but it’s a curious addition if this employee gift turns out to be real. If it’s included in this line-up it might hint at a project that is further in development than initially expected. Here’s hoping we find out more in the near future.

  • RUMOR: First Description on ‘Ahsoka’s Take on Grand Admiral Thrawn

RUMOR: First Description on ‘Ahsoka’s Take on Grand Admiral Thrawn

Ahsoka is one of the most anticipated Star Wars series coming to Disney+, as it’ll follow one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Ahsoka Tano’s debut in The Mandalorian was an event all on its own, as fans counted down the hours until the episode would premier to get their very first look at the animated darling to enter live-action. Following the conclusion of The Mandalorian‘s second season, it was announced on Disney’s Investors Day that Rosario Dawson would be picking up her lightsabers for a solo outing in her very own series.

The series will reportedly follow Ahsoka as she travels the galaxy alongside Sabine Wren, searching for Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of the franchise’s most treacherous foes. Thrawn is yet another character in the Star Wars universe fans are eager to see make their live-action debut and the Illuminerdi recently shared some details on the character’s upcoming debut. He is described as “unequivocally, the most clever and calculating of the Emperor’s followers.”

Most of his description will remain the same from the original books and his animated adaptation, as he’ll be a “blue-skinned humanoid with glowing red eyes.” The big takeaway, however, is that he’ll also act as a series lead, which is a promising showcase that he’ll have quite an active role throughout the series rather than just being a villain hidden in the shadows.

The role of Thrawn has yet to be cast as the series is currently targeting an early 2022 production start date, with no current release date attached to the series. Rosario Dawson will star alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, and Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker.

  • Lucasfilm Eyeing Amandla Stenberg to Lead Disney+’s ‘The Acolyte’

Lucasfilm Eyeing Amandla Stenberg to Lead Disney+’s ‘The Acolyte’

We’ve been hearing quite a bit more from Star Wars‘ upcoming Disney+ series, especially their The Mandalorian spinoff, Ahsoka. Well, it looks like a bit more has been happening with their other project, The Acolyte. We know very little about this upcoming project outside of the fact it is eyeing an early 2022 production start. There have been a few rumors surrounding the project led by Leslye Headland. Luckily, The Illuminerdi might have gotten their hands on something interesting.

According to them, Lucasfilm has already set its eyes on its potential leading star. For a while, they’ve been focused on hiring a woman of color in their late teens. It seems that they might have decided that The Hunger GamesAmandla Stenberg would be perfect for the role. Stenberg, who identifies as non-binary, has gone on to star in The Hate U Give, Where Hands Touch, and they recently appeared in Dear Evan Hansen.

UPDATE: Variety has confirmed Stenberg is in talks to star in The Acolyte. Per the outlet, details regarding their role are not known.

  • ‘The Mandalorian’ Spinoff ‘Ahsoka’ Adds Ivanna Sakhno

‘The Mandalorian’ Spinoff ‘Ahsoka’ Adds Ivanna Sakhno

It looks like Ahsoka is slowly revving up, as there’s a new addition to the series cast. Deadline has announced that The Mandalorian spinoff has added Ivanna Sakhno in a new role. Her character will be specially created for the Disney+ series unlike her upcoming co-star Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who joined the cast as Star Wars: Rebels‘ Sabine Wren. The series will be written and executive produced by Dave Filoni. Jon Favreau also returns from his work from Din Djarin’s story, as the series might intersect in some way.

It’ll be the second spinoff from the series heading to Disney+, as we’re going to continue Boba Fett’s story after Christmas. He made his grand return alongside Rosario Dawson‘s take on the character of Ahsoka Tano in the same season. It’ll be interesting to see if we also get a tease of some kind on how exactly these various spinoff series might connect moving forward. We’re still waiting for an official casting announcement for the other Rebels character, Ezra Bridger. Mena Massoud is heavily rumored since February to tackle the role.

  • ‘The Book of Boba Fett’s Episode Count Revealed

‘The Book of Boba Fett’s Episode Count Revealed

Here’s an interesting surprise. As the first The Mandalorian spin-off, we all assumed that The Book of Boba Fett will also run for the usual eight-episode season. Yet, it turns out that the upcoming Disney+ series will have a shorter run, as the official Star Wars account just revealed it’ll consist of seven episodes once it premieres on December 29th. It’s great to see that the shows aren’t going to be clustered by a specific length and we’ll see how jam-packed the upcoming episodes will be with a shorter runtime. It’s curious though they’d just sneak this information into a tweet. Yet, it certainly got our attention alongside the amazing character posters for Boba and Fennec Shand.

While the trailers offered a tiny glimpse into what the spinoff series has to offer, it’ll be interesting to see Boba Fett’s conflict in his new role. We’ve always associated him as a badass bounty hunter, but never as a true leader. While he can certainly kick-ass, it doesn’t mean he can keep Tatooine’s underbelly at bay. So, while he can take on anyone that wants to steal his throne, he’s likely going to face quite the uphill battle.

Kathleen Kennedy Hints That ‘Rangers of the New Republic’ is Possibly Shelved

Sadly, it seems that we might finally have more information surrounding the mysterious Star Wars project, Rangers of the New Republic. It was proudly shared alongside their other The Mandalorian spin-offs during Disney’s Investors Day last year. Yet, we’ve heard very little about the project. What didn’t help matters was that its original star, Gina Carano, faced quite a bit of backlash for her actions on social media. Her contract with Lucasfilm was swiftly ended and it seemed like the series was going to look for a new leading star.

Well, a new statement by Kathleen Kennedy in the new Empire magazine may have put the final nail on the coffin. Luckily, someone was kind enough to share a scan of the latest issue where the Lucasfilm CEO states that there is currently no script prepared for the series. While she doesn’t straight out confirm it is canceled, it seems likely they have no plans to enter pre-production at any time.

We’d never written any scripts or anything on that. Some of that will figure into future episodes, I’m sure, of the next iteration of Mandalorian.

    Kathleen Kennedy

It’s the final statement that some story elements may get integrated into the next season of Mandalorian may be the definitive statement that they have no interest to continue the series as it was originally envisioned. Quite the shame, as insight into how the galaxy has been rebuilding after the end of the Empire. There’s a lot of potentials to explore this storyline and its conflict with the remnants of a once tyrannical regime. So, maybe later down the line they find a way to make it work.

  • ‘Watchmen’, ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘Inhumans’ Directors Helmed Episodes of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

‘Watchmen’, ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘Inhumans’ Directors Helmed Episodes of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

Through two season of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm has wisely and effectively used multiple directors. To nobody’s surprise, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are relying on a similar approach when it comes to their next big streaming series, The Book of Boba Fett. While Robert Rodriguez’s passion for the character has led to a lot of buzz around his participation in the series, Bespin Bulletin correctly reported earlier this year that Bryce Dallas Howard, who previously directed episodes of The Mandalorian, would be directing an episode of The Book of Boba Fett and now, according to the new issue of Empire Magazine, we can add a couple more names to the team of directors for the show. Empire reports that Steph Green and Kevin Tancharoen were both behind the camera for at least one episode each of the upcoming series.

Green has been nominated for both Oscar and Emmy awards, with her turn behind the camera for the HBO series Watchmen being responsible for the latter. She’s also directed episodes of the acclaimed series, The Americans, and one episode of Netflix’s Luke Cage, which gives her something in common with Tancharoen. While fans might best remember Tancharoen for his work as writer and director of the YouTube series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, he also directed one episode of Luke Cage’s Netflix besties show, Iron Fist. Tancharoen has quite a bit of experience in sci-fi and superhero work, with episodes of Supergirl, The Flash, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and, of course, an episode of one of the finest pieces of live-action television ever put to film, Marvel’s Inhumans.

The Book of Boba Fett will see the iconic bounty hunter enter into the criminal underworld after killing Bib Fortuna and taking over the one-time throne of Jabba the Hutt. The show begins streaming on Disney Plus on December 29th and is expected to run for 8 episodes.

  • Jon Favreau Talks Boba Fett’s Rocky Transition to Crime Lord in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

Jon Favreau Talks Boba Fett’s Rocky Transition to Crime Lord in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

To hear Jon Favreau tell it, the ease with which Boba Fett calmly strolled into Jabba’s Palace and offed a fattened Bib Fortuna belies the tough road ahead for the bounty hunter. In fact, it seems that Boba’s move has will cause him more problems than even he anticipated when we see him in next month’s Disney Plus streaming series, The Book of Boba Fett.

Speaking to Empire, Favreau, who along with Dave Filoni has given new life to not only Boba Fett but the Star Wars franchise, explains that Boba is going to have to learn on the fly.

Although Boba Fett is a very experienced bounty hunter, he’s not experienced at running a criminal syndicate or managing forces. He’s not normally a newcomer. He’s an expert as we see him in most areas. But in this case, he’s trying to transition to another position.

The first look at the series showed fans that not everyone in the criminal underworld is going to readily accept Boba as the new boss and that he’s going to have to resort to some less political means to change some opinions, going so far as what director Robert Rodriguez called “barbarian mode.” While Fortuna may have been running it, it was always Jabba’s empire and with the big guy out of the way, Boba probably isn’t the only one gunning to be the new number one.

“There is a power vacuum because Jabba is gone. Jabba was clearly a very strong and imposing leader, who people were very scared of, and who seemed to rule with an iron fist. You pull somebody like that out of the ecosystem of Tatooine – and Hutt Space in general – and you have the opportunity that’s ripe in the gangster genre.

Who knows what organizations and which villains Boba will meet along the way. With Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn, along with some other criminal factions, getting a lot of run in the Star Wars comics, it’ll be interesting to see who Boba finds himself facing off with to fill that Jabba-sized void in the galaxy.
