Kathleen Kennedy Teases Future Plans for ‘Star Wars’ Sequel Trilogy Spinoffs

It looks like Lucasfilms might have some plans for the newly introduced characters of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Most of the current projects are focused on exploring the different eras in the past, such as The Mandalorian taking place after the original trilogy ended. Obi-Wan Kenobi will bridge that era with the prequel trilogy. In an interview with Empire, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was asked if they had any plans and she teased that they haven’t forgotten about characters and there are ongoing discussions.

Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.

The Rise of the Skywalker ended the original saga first started in 1977. It continued the legacy of those characters and tried its best to tie some loose ends. It didn’t hit the mark for everyone, but we still got some interesting characters out of the new trilogy. It would be interesting to see what the aftermath of these events might look like. Daisy Ridley‘s Rey has now taken on the name Skywalker and might carry on the traditions of Jedi. John Boyega‘s Finn, as a former Stormtrooper, still has the most potential for an interesting storyline, as there might still be many out there forced to work for the remnants of the New Order. So, here’s hoping we find out what new and old corners they might visit in the near future.

  • Robert Rodriguez Promises “Barbarian Mode” for Boba in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

Robert Rodriguez Promises “Barbarian Mode” for Boba in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

In just over a month, The Book of Boba Fett will head into homes on Disney Plus and to hear director Robert Rodriguez tell it, Boba will come out swinging in his first-ever solo series. Fans of the iconic bounty hunter were thrilled when he made his return from the Sarlaac in The Mandalorian and will now get to see him move into his own series and into a new role as a crime boss.

It’s certainly uncharted territory for Boba and fans have been eager to learn more about what to expect in the series…and now we know it sound like an awful lot of fun. In an interview with Empire, Rodriguez promises fans that they’ll see “more of (Boba’s) true character” which includes, apparently, “barbarian mode.” Rodriguez directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, “The Tragedy”, and gave long time fans of Boba a glimpse of what they’d always hoped to see him do and now it sound like he’s ready to turn it up to 11 by expanding not only on the story of Boba, but taking off the training wheels and letting him show fans, and the galaxy, why he’s always been so feared.

The first look at the series made it apparent that while Boba may now be sitting on Jabba’s throne, that doesn’t mean he has the respect of everyone who used to fall under the fat fist of the Jabba or the much less feared Bib Fortuna, who we saw Boba take care of at the end of Season 2 of The Mandalorian. To that end, it sounds like Boba and Fennec Shand are going to have to do some convincing and may have to do so that hard way. So after a reintroduction to the character that involved some softer moments than one might expect from one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters, it sounds like The Book of Boba Fett is going to deliver on decades of fans’ dreams of what Boba could do.

The Book of Boba Fett begins streaming on Disney Plus on December 29th.

  • BREAKING: Natasha Liu Bordizzo Cast as Sabine Wren in ‘Ahsoka’

BREAKING: Natasha Liu Bordizzo Cast as Sabine Wren in ‘Ahsoka’

The live-action debut of Ahsoka Tano was unanimously loved by fans of the character, who made her debut in The Clone Wars animated series. She quickly gained popularity as Anakin’s Jedi apprentice. Fans are eager to see her return in her live-action solo series, but just as excited for the debut of Sabine Wren, a character who has been rumored for the series for quite a while now. Deadline is reporting that actress Natasha Liu Bordizza has joined the cast of Ahsoka as the Mandalorian. She will star opposite Rosario Dawson who plays the titular character.

At the very end of Star Wars: Rebels we saw an older Ahsoka Tano meet up with Sabine Wren. Yet, once we see her again in The Mandalorian she was by herself. It seems the series will indeed follow Ahsoka and Sabine as they travel the galaxy searching for Ezra Bridger whose believed to be held hostage by Grand Admiral Thrawn. This was set up via Ahsokas time on Corvus, where she met Din Djarin and the two teamed up to take down the Magistrate.

Ahsoka is definitely one of the most anticipated projects coming to Disney+ as the character finally gets her own well-deserved series. The series is set to star Dawnson and Bordizza alongside Hayden Christensen, once again reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker. The series is also rumored to feature Mena Massoud as Ezra Bridger, another character making their live-action debut. Ahsoka is currently set to start filming next year around March.

  • REPORT: ‘Ahsoka’ Eyeing Spring 2023 Release on Disney+

REPORT: ‘Ahsoka’ Eyeing Spring 2023 Release on Disney+

Star Wars was quite the no-show during this year’s Disney+ Day. While Marvel and Pixar got their own 2021 special, the franchise of a galaxy far far away only had a brief tease of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. They already released The Book of Boba Fett trailer ahead of the celebrations. So, it left us wondering about all the other projects. Luckily, Bespin Bulletin might offer us at least some insight into what the plan is with The Mandalorian spinoff, Ahsoka and it looks like we might have a time window for its release.

According to their sources, it seems that the series is planning a production that lasts until the fall of 2022. With that time window, the series is currently eyeing a 2023 spring release. It also seems that The Acolyte is eyeing a similar release window and will join in 2023. It’s uncertain if they’re the only series to the eye that year, as there are some uncertainties about what other projects might enter production due to nothing new getting announced.

They go on to include a March 2022 production start according to Production Weekly. So, it would certainly manage the release window in 2023, as the fall production end would offer enough time to also finish up post-production work. Here’s hoping that we get a bit more information on what the future of Disney+ has in store for Star Wars.

  • ‘Star Wars: Visions’ Episode “The Village Bride” Qualifies for 2022’s Oscars

‘Star Wars: Visions’ Episode “The Village Bride” Qualifies for 2022’s Oscars

Lucasfilm explored some new venues with this year’s release of Star Wars: Visions. They worked with various famous Anime studios that each got the chance to create stories that are inspired by the famous franchise. It offered quite a diverse selection of stories, such as a rock opera featuring familiar characters from the original trilogy. Well, it seems that one of the many shorts is now qualified to get an Oscar nomination for 2022.

CartoonBrew revealed the current list of 84 films that are up for a nomination. Disney is quite represented with their shorts Us Again, Nona, and Twenty Something. Hidden in the list at #80 is the Visions‘ episode by Hitoshi Haga titled The Village Bride. So far, it seems to be the only episode to nab a nomination in the Animated Short Films category.

Jennifer Beals Joins ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

Now that the trailer has finally dropped for The Book of Boba Fett, everyone is looking for the tiniest details they may have missed. Deadline did the same and went out of their way to confirm that one of the Twi-lek’s we see in the trailer is The L Word’s Jennifer Beals. She also took to Twitter to share her enthusiasm for joining the galaxy far far away with the upcoming December release of the first The Mandalorian spinoff.

Her exact role still remains a mystery, but there’s a good chance there’s more to her character than meets the eye. We still know quite little about the new series and its extensive cast. The trailer teased that our favorite bounty hunter is going to take on a new role as Tatooine’s de facto ruler. As such, it wouldn’t be too surprising that he’ll have quite a few people out for his neck to take over the throne. So, we’ll see if she might have ulterior motives in the upcoming series.

  • RUMOR: Darth Maul to Return in an Animated ‘Solo’ Prequel Series

RUMOR: Darth Maul to Return in an Animated ‘Solo’ Prequel Series

Star wars has established its brand through live-action back in the day but saw quite the resurgence through animation before The Mandalorian was released. The Clone Wars offered a glimpse into a storyline that was barely teased in the original films. We got to revisit the stories of well-established characters, like the return of Darth Maul and his bizarre revenge-filled journey. His story, once again, came to an end in the final season of The Clone Wars released on Disney+, but a new rumor might be pointing to him not being done quite yet. Cinelinx’s Jordan Maison has recently shared the news on The Book of Boba Fett’s episode count and seems to double-downed on Star Wars-related news.

In his latest article, he discusses that famous voice actors Dee Bradley Baker, Matt Lanter, and Sam Witwer were recording something. After some more digging, it seems that they may be developing a new solo project focused purely on Darth Maul. He goes on to state it might act as a prequel to the revelation in Solo: A Star Wars Story that he was leading the Crimson Dawn. Paul Bettany is also rumored to return as Dryden Vos in the project.

Maul’s true last stand took place in Star Wars Rebels, which means there’s a chance we might find out how he ended up in that location completely powerless. If they already recorded the project, it might be far into production at this point. They didn’t announce it during last year’s Disney Investors Day. So, perhaps we’ll get a clearer picture once Disney+ Day arrives in a few weeks.
