      Some time ago, Netflix made the big appointment that Wednesday was tying with Stranger Things‘ fourth season for the most #1 positions in the world with 83 countries. Considering the iconic IP and Jenna Ortega leading the show, it was definitely a statement but it seems a new entry may have potentially found a new contender as the live-action adaptation of One Piece reportedly already managed to become the No. 1 in 84 countries and seemingly rising due to strong word-of-mouth.

      As such, One Piece has broken the record set by other iconic Netflix series and is continuing to grow its potential to continue on the platform with at least a second season. However, the question is if it is also reflected in the total viewership numbers. Netflix didn’t unveil Wednesday’s record numbers until at least a week later and there’s a chance that they are going to count that same timeline which means the big challenge is for this new series to also keep up that very momentum throughout the coming weeks.

      Netflix evaluates different factors even if not every detail on when they decided to renew a series. One Piece was an expensive production with a massive marketing push. Yet, they also already have merchandise ready for this series, which can push it to become quite profitable for the studio. So, we’ll have to keep a close eye on its performance for a bit more time if the series manages to dethrone Wednesday and Stranger Things.

      Stranger Things remains one of Netflix’s best releases, as it combines horror and 80s nostalgia in an unlikely mismatch. The Upside Down also became a rather fascinating mythology element that had many returning to this world every new season, as we slowly uncovered more of this world. Though, one big change throughout the seasons was that Noah Schnapp, who was a major player in the earlier seasons, seemed to take quite the backseat with each new season.

      Luckily, it seems that the upcoming fifth season will likely return to Schnapp’s Will having a bigger part in the story that slowly became more and more about Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. In an interview, co-creator Ross Duffer seemingly confirms he will take “center stage again” in the upcoming fifth season and teases that he’ll be “coming into his own as a young man.”

      Will really takes center stage again in 5. This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together. Will is used to being the young one, the introverted one, the one that’s being protected. So part of his journey, it’s not just sexuality — it’s Will coming into his own as a young man.

      We don’t know how they will handle the fact that they won’t be filming for some time and the cast already looks far older than the ages they are supposed to play.       ‘Prey’ Director Joins ‘Stranger Things’ Final Season

      While Stranger Things’ final season is still on hold until the writer’s strike ends, it looks like some plans are still being put into motion. As first reported by One TAke News, Dan Trachtenberg who famously directed the Predator prequel Prey and 10 Cloverfield Lane, will join the upcoming fifth season as a director. While it’s unclear what episode he is set to tackle or even if he’s going to tackle multiple going in.

      This isn’t his first TV work, as he also was the one who directed the pilot episode for Amazon’s The Boys, and also worked on Netflix’s Black Mirror: Playtest. He’s the second bit of news we got from Netflix recently, as during their TUDUM event it was confirmed that Terminator alum Linda Hamilton is also joining the cast of the sequel. Sadly, it seems like Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to stick to Fubar for now.

      It’ll be interesting to see what exactly their plans are for the final season. While each season paid tribute to different horror genres, such as The Blob in Season 3. Perhaps after teasing the Freddy Krueger influences in its latest season, they might go all-in on a 90s slasher-inspired season. Hamilton joining would be a fun hint at them playing around with a new type of horror.

      The WGA Strike is going strong, as various productions have been slowly getting paused. Hollywood is still trying to push a few through that have finished scripts; though writers being on set is also an essential aspect to ensure adaptations can happen to tighten scripts along the production timeline. Marvel Studios just recently put a hold on Blade which was set to start production soon.

      Oddly though, they are not planning anything for Deadpool 3 as of now but that might just be them playing chicken until production has to start and the script might be deemed more “done” than the other that only recently revealed another writer was attached. Yet, we’re slowly seeing more and more productions affected such as Stranger Things writers and creators the Duffer Brothers confirming they have paused production until the strike is over on Netflix’s flagship series.

      This is a huge blow to the streaming service that greatly has been trying to build up its offerings as it first faced a drop in subscribers not too long ago. They also have been rumored to be one of the big holdouts during the meetings with the WGA. Either way, this is an important move by the Duffer Brothers and a showcase of how important this current strike is.

      Streaming services have changed the way we watch our favorite movies and shows, but they also left quite an impact on how writers earn their money. They have smaller writing rooms with a lot more work put on the backs of fewer people. More importantly, they also have less money as a result of this new model and can no longer rely on residuals. Here’s hoping that these talks end in favor of those that create the series and films we love so dearly.

      The Upside-Down is about to look quite a bit different, as Netflix has seemingly decided to move forward with an animated series that takes place in the world of Stranger Things. There is no real info on what exactly the story will be about and if we can expect any tie-ins to the main series, but it seems they at least already have a production company attached.

      It seems Eric Robles is working on the series with Flying Bark Productions. He has quite a varied background with series like Random! Cartoons, Fanboy & Chum Chum, and most notably Glitch Techs. The latter was a Netflix and Nickelodeon cooperation, which means Robles has some experience working with the streaming service but there’s now ord if his co-creator Dan Milano is also involved.

      This animated spinoff will be executive produced by the Duffer brothers under their new Upside Down label, which is also looking to expand the franchise with a live-action spinoff, a new attempt at a live-action Death Note series, and more. They gave the following statement on jumping into animation with this franchise.

      We’ve always dreamed of an animated ‘Stranger Things’ in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues.

      Stranger Things is one of their biggest IPs and it’s actually surprising how long it took before they attempted to create a spinoff but it worked out as most of the focus remained on the ongoing series, which is set to release its final season at some point in the coming years.       There has been a lot of speculation on when we can see the final season of Stranger Things. The fourth season just released and the wait has been a long one, but it was surprising to find out that the Duffer Brothers and their writing staff haven’t even tackled the fifth season’s scripts once the fourth season was released. So, it seemed like the wait might take quite a bit longer than expected and according to Finn Wolfhard, it may have gotten just a bit longer.

      In an interview with GQ answering fan questions, he reveals that Stranger Things will start filming in May. Yet, he also hints that the time the series is likely to release might not be until 2025; a far cry from a late 2024 release everyone might be hoping for. Given that the series is only starting production in a few months and will be quite effects heavy like the previous one, it would make sense that the wait is going to take a while.

      He does jokingly state that Netflix and himself would love to milk it with a return in ten years; not a bad idea to see the Upside-Down once again seep into the world and get a chance to see these characters having grown older. The series has struggled a bit with an aging cast as productions continued to get postponed. If they are only filming now, perhaps we’ll get a time jump going into the fifth and final season. There’s also a spinoff being prepared which may also be set up with this final season, but much is unknown about when to expect it.

      Stranger Things is about to wrap up, as the journey through the Upside-Down is about to find its end with the fifth season. We still don’t know when we can expect the series to wrap up, but it’s looking like a long wait is in order with a 2024 release on the horizon due to the series’ final season not even started rolling the cameras. Still, it seems that the cast has been teased about the future of their characters, as actor Noah Schnapp teased the ending of Will’s story and highlighted once again that it started with him.

      The way they closed the show is just perfect — the story started with Will, and it’ll end with Will.

      Most of the last few seasons have put their main focus on Eleven, whose abilities were the only way to combat the various monsters out of the dimension. Still, Will was the first to meet these beings from Upside-Down and developed a psychic link with them. At the end of the last season, we could see that he still has that very connection and may become a valuable asset in the battle with Vecna, who has set his eyes on melding these two dimensions into one.

      What exactly Will’s story will remain a mystery, but it’s great to see that Schnapp is on board. He seems quite excited and also tight-lipped on what we can expect from the characters’ future. There’s the question if everyone will survive the final battle with Vecna given just how dangerous it’ll become. Perhaps when we catch up with everyone, they are already barely hanging on and find a way for the last attempt to stop them. Will might be the key they need to end it.

      One month after Season Four wrapped, work on the final season of Stranger Things began. Producer Shawn Levy revealed in a recent interview that the writers and the producers of the show, the Duffer brothers, are hard at work. “Oh, man, it’s going great,” Levy said. Fans should expect the final season to thread together some remaining loose storylines and answer many questions related to the Upside Down. Levy also gave fans this nugget: it will be “epic” and “emotional”.

      “…When we sat there and heard the two-hour-long pitch-out for the storyline of this final season, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room by the time the brothers were done… so, yeah, this last season will be both epic and very emotional. I think making it will be pretty damn emotional, too, since this show has changed the life of every one of us who have worked on it.”

      As the cast and crew prepare for this final adventure, Levy was very reflective about how much he enjoyed working on the show and how much the younger cast has grown. He spoke about how the show has defined their career paths, saying it was refreshing to work on a series that “championed its actors’ individual strengths.” Levy was very complimentary of the Duffer brothers’ ability to customize each character (and every line) to the particular actor.

      Cinematic Universes are all the rage as many are still chasing after what Marvel Studios has seemingly accomplished. While that franchise still moving forward with more diverse projects that offer something new, many others still trying to get theirs going. Yet, there are some surprising new additions to the “cinematic universe” catch-up such as Netflix trying to build one based on the Power Rangers, which is fitting given the legacy series’ way of building multiple teams throughout the years. Yet, it seems they also have plans or one more franchise, Stranger Things.

      Stranger Things veteran Shawn Levy, who is currently also set to direct the third Deadpool movie, teased the future plans for the popular Netflix series and seemingly confirmed they are building a “STCU” and he’s currently taking a few cues from his work with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

      Yes, we are building out the STCU, and now that I’m spending time with [chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment] Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about how to manage a universe. So I’m taking those skills and applying them to the STCU.

      Some might have concerns regarding a “Cinematic Universe” approach to the series but we’ve heard in the past that the Duffer Brothers are already working on spinoff projects. So, they may simply be looking into ways to use the Upside Down as a basis for various horror franchises.
