First Look at ‘The Marvel’s Main Trio in New Merch Leak

Just as we finally got to sit down in theaters to watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios is already preparing for what’s to come in 2023. We already got a trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania but now it seems that some merchandise has been spotted that offers a first look at the main trio of The Marvels.

As shared by umportalgeek on Instagram, there’s already a The Marvels‘ shirt available that gives us a good look at the main trio of Monica Rambeau, Carol Danvers, and Kamala Khan. The biggest reveal from this merchandise is the costume that Monica will seemingly wear during her outing as a hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Not much is known about the project and there’s a lot of potential with this film having not one but three leads. The balance it’ll hold by switching between perspectives of Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris. Their dynamic will definitely be a highlight for the project.

We already got a hint at what direction the project is taking during the post-credit sequence of Ms. Marvel. With merchandise already making its way into stores, we’ll have to see if more is already circulating even with the film not set to release until July.

  • D23: Teyonah Parris On Monica Rambeau’s Origin in ‘The Marvels’

D23: Teyonah Parris On Monica Rambeau’s Origin in ‘The Marvels’

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans learned a whole lot about the future of the franchise at this year’s D23 convention, and that included a bunch of new information about Nia DaCosta‘s The Marvels. A sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, the story will reportedly revolve around Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau as the characters begin swapping places every time they use their powers. Parris, who debuted in her role to much acclaim in 2021’s WandaVision, was on hand at D23 to discuss Monica’s development in The Marvels and explain how fans might see her next.

Speaking with Deadline, the actress revealed The Marvels will find her heroine learning to deal with newfound abilities:

With Monica, we see her at the end of ‘WandaVision’ gain powers. And so, in ‘The Marvels’, we pick up learning how Monica’s been learning about her powers, working with them – or if she has at all. Like, what she’s not been doing. So, that’s where we pick up with Monica in ‘The Marvels’.

    Teyonah Parris

Nudged further about the specifics of Monica’s superheroic adjustment, Parris played coy and danced around the question. However, she did drop a little nugget about the character’s overall arc in the MCU, stating that the combination of WandaVision and The Marvels acted as a sort of drawn-out origin for Rambeau:

She is adjusting… Between ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Marvels’, we really get to fully realize Monica’s origin story here in the MCU. So, it’s been really fun.

  • D23: First ‘The Marvels’ Footage Teases the 3 Heroines’ Unique Challenge

D23: First ‘The Marvels’ Footage Teases the 3 Heroines’ Unique Challenge

the first footage was shown from The Marvels during D23 and it turns out it also gave us the first reveal on how it’ll tie the three unlikely heroes together with Monica Rambeau, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel. It seems that the story will see the three constantly switching places every time they use their powers and forces them to work together to fix the issue. It certainly sounds like an interesting idea that’ll make it stand out and could even offer some rather unique fighting scenarios throughout the film’s runtime.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Marvels’ Will Feature Musical Elements

RUMOR: ‘The Marvels’ Will Feature Musical Elements

Carol Danvers is one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes, but does she also have one of its best voices? A new rumor making its way across the internet says that The Marvels, the upcoming sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, will feature musical elements in the film. The information comes from a variety of online outlets with a strong track record of being correct, and if true, could help The Marvels stand out in Marvel Studios’ extensive Phase 4 plan. According to the word on the street, the movie will include a sequence in which its characters visit an alien planet where song is the only developed form of communication.

Star Brie Larson is set to reprise her role as Danvers, which will surely help if The Marvels actually does lean into its musical side. The actress is known for her vocal capabilities, having previously flexed her golden pipes in projects like 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and a solo album, titled Finally Out of P.E., released in 2005. So, if any member of the cast has the qualifications to pull off a musical number, it’s Larson.

While The Marvels having a potential musical section comes as a surprise, there is actually a basis for the concept in the comics. 2014’s Captain Marvel #9 took it’s titular character to the planet Aldana, where all living beings spoke to each other in rhyme and music. The move would also set up The Marvels as the second major comic book movie to feature musical elements in the next couple years, coming before Joker: Folie à Deux does the same thing with Joaquin Phoenix.

The Marvels is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2023.

  • Samuel L. Jackson Has Begun Work on ‘The Marvels’ Reshoots

Samuel L. Jackson Has Begun Work on ‘The Marvels’ Reshoots

Reshoots have become a common occurrence for any Marvel Cinematic Universe project. So, it’s no surprise that the cast and crew of The Marvels have returned to give the production another go. Nick Fury actor Samuel L. Jackson has revealed that he has begun working on reshoots for the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel in a recent Instagram post. However, Jackson does not offer any details on the reshoots.

As previously mentioned, it is pretty common for Marvel projects to enter some form of additional photography. The purpose of these reshoots is usually to assist the production team by adding elements that either could not get filmed due to scheduling conflicts, or that would help to streamline the project. The majority of modern blockbusters are screen tested, allowing the teams to get a sense for how audiences react, which they use to tweak the film.

The Marvels is an interesting type of sequel, as it technically continues what was set up in Captain Marvel back in 2019, while also incorporating two characters that were introduced in Disney+ shows. Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani are set to make their MCU silver-screen debut as Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan respectively in the film.

So, it is going to be quite the challenge to bring these projects together while still keeping the story focused on whatever threat they are going to face. But with recent rumors suggesting the film will partially be a musical, fans can expect a wild ride when The Marvels hits theaters on July 28, 2023.

  • The Hypothetical 2023 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V4

The Hypothetical 2023 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V4

Once upon a time, this looked like it might be headed for a 2022 release. But with reshoots having to be spread out over several months due to actor availability, it’s clearly not going to be ready. It should, however, be ready to roll out in early 2023 and with principal photography done and finishing touches left to go, expect Secret Invasion to be the first Marvel Studios project of 2023.

This one has bounced around a bit in terms of release date, but it is absolutely the furthest along of the 2023 films. This time around, expect BIG action and stakes as the Ant-family takes on Jonathan Majors‘ Kang and Corey Stoll’s MODOK (who we hear looks absolutely fabulous). Marvel Studios may let the hype train out of the station earlier than normal on this one.

One of at least two animated series headed to Disney Plus in 2023, the X-Men revival already has a ton of buzz around it. Work was being done on the episodes long before anyone knew it existed, so its ten episodes could be ready to roll out on D+ sometime late in the first quarter of 2023.

Currently cruising through production, the Hawkeye spinoff will definitely be ready for a late-Spring/early-Summer release unless the wheels fall off. Not only will this bring Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin back, but it’s also set to really explore Native American culture

James Gunn‘s last go-around with the team he made famous in 2014, Vol. 3 has quite the cast and could end up being one of the MCU’s biggest tearjerkers. It’s also going to be full of surprises (will Cosmo have a voice?) and while it’s the end for Gunn and some of the cast, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the end for everyone.

With production well underway in the UK, Loki’s second season will have no problem making it to D+ for the Summer of 2023. Interestingly, it could come out just about 2 years to the day after the first season, which is cool but way too long to wait after that Season 1 cliffhanger!

The Nia DaCosta led sequel to Captain Marvel moved back to mid-Summer and after Carol Danvers’ mid-credit appearance in the Ms. Marvel finale, fans finally have an inkling of what this one is all about. In every way possible, this film is a huge shift from the original and should be an action-packed reinvention of the franchise in the way The Winter Solider was for the MCU’s other Captain.

Production is underway on Ironheart and by the time this one hits Disney Plus, fans will have already gotten to know the lead from her time in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It looks like this one will also feature The Hood, one of Marvel Comics coolest baddies yet to make the jump to the MCU.

Set to debut in 2023, it would make sense to start the animated series in time for it to play during peak Spooky Season. With a full-length Marvel Studios Animation panel at SDCC, it seems like a first look at this is pretty likely, giving fans an idea of its connectivity to the Zombie reality seen in Season 1 of What If…?.

Blade is finally set to get production underway in September of 2022, giving the studio plenty of time to turn it around for November of 2023. Marvel Studios has been known to slide release dates up a week or so in the past; it would be smart of them to do so here to capitalize on the urge for fans to watch horror films in October.

The project on this list about which the least is known. It is supposed to film in the Fall of 2022 so a late 2023 release date makes sense. However, Marvel Studios production dates are more fluid now than ever, so don’t etch this one into your stone calendar just yet.

  • Jennifer Kaytin Robinson Pitched on ‘The Marvels’ Before Landing ‘Love and Thunder’

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson Pitched on ‘The Marvels’ Before Landing ‘Love and Thunder’

With Thor: Love and Thunder now heading into its third weekend, those involved with the fourquel are finally opening up on what it was like behind the scenes. For Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who saw her big break with MTV’s critically acclaimed Sweet/Vicious, the journey to Thor: Love and Thunder was an interesting one. The writer revealed in an interview with Variety that she’d gone in to pitch for another Marvel Studios film before landing the fourth Thor movie.

“I actually pitched to write ‘Captain Marvel 2,’” Robinson tells Variety. “And off of that pitch, they were like, ‘So we’re not giving you this job. We’re going to pair you with Taika and you’re going to help him on ‘Thor.”’

Of course, Captain Marvel 2, which is now titled The Marvels, ended up being written by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell. Although Robinson didn’t get to write a Captain Marvel sequel, she was more than happy to adapt the Mighty Thor storyline from the comics. “What an amazing thing to be able to show a superhero with cancer and really not shy away from the ugliness of it and the things that are hard about it, but also really being able for this character to shine,” she explained. “A lot of the conversations were like, “How do we do this justice and how do we put something on screen that’s going to mean something and resonate with cancer survivors?”’

While Love and Thunder has been quite divisive among both fans and critics, Robinson and her co-writer, director Taika Waititi seemed to get along great. The duo worked well together, even with Waititi being known to throw out the script during filming. As Robinson notes, though, despite Waititi’s unusual approach on set, he makes sure to retain the core of the story at all times. “He threw out his own work,” she explained. “We really sat in rooms and Zooms together for months and months and months, and then we would get there, and we would rehearse it, and — “throw it out” is the wrong word. I mean, he does throw it out, but the core is still there. I would say he pluses — he can’t help but always try to plus. I can’t imagine Taika is ever going to write something and be like, “It’s done and we’ll shoot it.”

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Director Teases Kamala Will Gain Even More “Spectacular Power” in the Future

‘Ms. Marvel’ Director Teases Kamala Will Gain Even More “Spectacular Power” in the Future

Ms. Marvel recently ended its run on Disney+ as one of the most critically well-received Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series made viewers fall in love with Kamala Khan and get invested in the mysterious unraveling of what exactly her powers are. By the end of the show, audiences are already excited at seeing what comes next for Kamala in The Marvels. Iman Vellani will star alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who appeared in the final post-credits scene of Ms. Marvel.

Kamala’s powers in the MCU raised a lot of eyebrows and questions. First, there were significantly different from the abilities and origin she had in the comics. But Ms. Marvel also dropped the huge fact that Kamala may be a mutant in the MCU, and it never fully explained her powers and her Clandestine background. Some of this was due to time constraints for the series, but the series’ director Adil El Arbi recently told The Direct that fans have quite a bit to look forward to regarding Kamala’s powers going forward. El Arbi stated:

And I think, power-wise, we saw just the tip of the iceberg of Kamala Khan. I think there is so much more she can do, and on that front, I think there’s a big road for that, some more spectacular power.”

    Adil El Arbi

Considering Kamala’s powers were introduced and developed in a fairly unique way in the MCU, it makes sense that we are not done learning about them. The series’ creators previously mentioned that Ms. Marvel’s new MCU powers were, in part, meant to help the character fit in better with The Marvels. Director Billal Fallah added that her power growth will result in “a great can of action sequences.” The promise of Kamala’s abilities evolution certainly begs the question of whether she will ultimately have powers on par with Captain Marvel, who is arguably one of the strongest characters in the MCU.

Ms. Marvel is now streaming in its entirety on Disney+. The Marvels is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28, 2023.
