  • SDCC: ‘National Treasure’ Episode Count Revealed

SDCC: ‘National Treasure’ Episode Count Revealed

It is not Nicolas Cage stealing the Declaration of Independence, or Diane Kruger having to reject his advances, but we are on the road back to National Treasure. The original, and its sequel, made over $800 million at the box office and, while the third movie never came to fruition, it seems we are about to get the next best thing! That’s right, friends: the conspiracy theory and puzzles we’ve come to expect are returning, albeit with an incredibly diverse cast in the Disney Plus streaming series National Treasure: Edge of History.

National Treasure: Edge of History will focus on Jess Morales, played by Lisette Olivera, a 20-year old DACA recipient who is pulled into a globe-trotting adventure in search of her family history. Olivera will be joined by the legendary Catherine Zeta-Jones as well as franchise stalwart Justin Bertha, in this serialized entry into the franchise, which will premiere on Disney+ and will be led by the same team that wrote and directed the first film. We haven’t had much information on plot or any other recurring stars other than Bertha, but we now have a little more to go on.

The series’ first season will be 10 episodes long, with the entire series going 10 hours in length, providing fans with the equivalent runtime of five National Treasure films, The series will act as a starring vehicle for Olivera, and one that could catapult her into stardom if it becomes a bit for Disney+. Crossing paths with a legend like Zeta-Jones will only serve to uplift her stature here. Principal photography began in February of this year in Baton Rouge, Louisiana ahead of an expected 2023 release.

SDCC: First Look at Harvey Keitel’s Return to the ‘National Treasure’ Franchise

There’s been quite some excitement about what the future has in store with Disney+’s National Treasure spinoff. Many were sad that Nicolas Cage was not set to return in the series that has the subtitle Edge of History, but with a new generation of world adventurers looking for lost treasure, there’s always the chance they run across some familiar faces.

As it turns out, the San Diego Comic-Con panel for National Treasure has unveiled that Harvey Keitel will return to the franchise. That is not all, as Twitter user @DAPs_Magic has shared a screenshot from the panel that offers our first look at the actor returning to the franchise after all these years.

It’ll be interesting if they are starting to build up more cameos in future seasons. Cage is still the top choice to make a return and Keitel isn’t the only franchisee veteran to make a return, as Justin Bartha is also going to make his return from the original franchise. Disney+ has become focused on expanding its IP offerings beyond just Marvel and Star Wars, which still dominate its discourse. So, it’ll be interesting to see what surprises they might have in store for us.

  • Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Actor Shares BTS Image Teasing Shank’s Costume

Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Actor Shares BTS Image Teasing Shank’s Costume

We haven’t heard much from the upcoming live-action One Piece series in some time. While there was a recent quote from Netflix stating that it’s among their potential next generation of Stranger things-level franchises, things have gone quiet. We still don’t know how long production will continue, but with One Piece Day on the horizon, we may get some exciting new updates.

Luckily, it seems that actor Peter Gadiot had some fun teasing us with an image of him in his costume as Shanks. The only twist is that he’s kept his look hidden with shadows on a beach. So, we don’t actually get to see what he looks like but @piece_live was nice enough to save the photo before it disappeared from his stories, which is our first true tease of what he may look like so far.

    https://twitter.com/piece_live/status/1550090655115972609

Ironically, One Piece‘s creator has a habit of hiding characteer reveals with the help of shadows. So, it’s actually quite true to the original manga and does build up some excitemeent if we might get a reveal during One Piece Day. Though, it does seem unlikely as we’re still waiting for some more casting news regarding a few key missing characteres.

Gadiot was one of the biggest reveals during One Piece‘s first ever direct on the future of thee franchise. The Netflix series has a lot of potential and with Tudum on the horizon, who knows what elsee we might see very soon. The timing is also perfect with rumors of Shank’s return to th emanga very soon.

  • Marvel Studios President Had One Request for ‘Ms. Marvel’s Mutant Reveal

Marvel Studios President Had One Request for ‘Ms. Marvel’s Mutant Reveal

Ms. Marvel may have changed the game for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it was the first instance that the mutants were introduced into the mainline timeline. While we still don’t know when we can expect some more familiar faces, we did get a rather familiar tune to accompany the reveal. As it turns out, this was an idea that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had when they discussed how to reveal it.

According to Bisha K. Ali, the series creator, it was Feige’s idea to include the music element to highlight that she is a mutant. She also shared her excitement to further explore the character’s future and be part of this new X-Men era

Well, to begin with, it was the last thing we read. So that was a best-kept secret. Nobody knew about it until we read the last version of the script and all of a sudden it was like, damn. And then we would ask producers about it and we would not get any answers. Then Kevin Feige said: Just shoot this, put the little music on, and that’s it. We can only hope that we be part of the future of “Ms. Marvel” because it would be super nice to have some “X-Men” flavor in there.

    Bisha K. Ali

While some have called it “milking” the 90s nostalgia, there’s a genius aspect to the musical cue given that not only is a reboot on the horizon, but it also gives the franchise an audio cue. If they are interested in introducing the Inhumans and other super-powered characters, the mutant element is given an easy indicator for the audience to instantly make the connection.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ To Be Unveiled This SDCC Weekend

‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ To Be Unveiled This SDCC Weekend

This SDCC weekend isn’t just going to cater to live-action MCU properties. Marvel Studios’ animation division is set to also have their own presentation where the likes of Spider-Man: Freshman Year, What If…? Season 2, and hopefully, X-Men 97, will be unveiled. Freshman Year executive producer Jeff Trammell confirmed the show’s inclusion in the panel.

There’s not much known about the canonical Spidey spin-off series other than it will explore Peter Parker’s early days as a crimefighter and that Tom Holland will unlikely be a part of the series. Fans have been looking forward to what kind of art and animation style the show will have and this presentation is guaranteed to shed light on that. Hopefully, the presentation also gives us a rundown on which villains to expect.

  • Bradley Cooper Will Return to Voice Rocket in “I Am Groot”

Bradley Cooper Will Return to Voice Rocket in “I Am Groot”

The Guardians of the Galaxy are making their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 already, despite the franchise’s third installment, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, is not slated to hit theaters until 2023. Recently, the team showed up in the opening minutes of Thor: Love and Thunder, and a Guardians holiday special are set to land on Disney+ later this year.

Another, smaller, project based on the characters of the franchise is also set to debut soon. I Am Groot, a series of shorts based on the popular age-confused tree-like alien Groot will hit Disney+ on August 10, 2022. A new report has revealed that Marvel Studios released early footage of the Disney+ series, and it includes the return of another Guardians favorite.

According to The Direct, an early theatrical screening of the first episode of I Am Groot, Bradley Cooper is confirmed to return as Rocket Raccoon in the Disney+ shorts. Cooper’s name appeared in the credits as Rocket Raccoon, suggesting his appearance in at least one episode of I Am Groot and marking his sixth appearance in the MCU to date.

While it is fun that Cooper and Rocket will be involved, director James Gunn has hinted that the short series may not be canon to the greater MCU. I Am Groot, will consist of five shorts but there are no exact details on how long each individual episode will be, but as they are titled “shorts” we shouldn’t expect an overarching storyline or long episodes. This isn’t a new thing for the service and isn’t a sign that they are changing the model, as it’s rather common for the service in how they tackle their shorts, such as Olaf Presents.

I Am Groot is scheduled to release on Disney+ on August 10, 2022.
