GEEKED WEEK: First Look at Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams

Jenna Ortega is taking on the task of playing Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton‘s new take on the classic The Addams Family. Instead of family hijinks, we are going to explore her time at an Academy where terrible things are afoot, where she’ll solve mysteries with the help of her friend, the Hand. The first teaser mainly gave us a first look at the actress in the role, but it does seem like a promising new addition to the streaming service.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’s Directors Would Reshoot the Disney+ Series if They Could Add Shah Rukh Khan

‘Ms. Marvel’s Directors Would Reshoot the Disney+ Series if They Could Add Shah Rukh Khan

Ms. Marvel will be an important milestone for representation, as a Pakistani-American superhero, Kamala Khan, takes center stage. Iman Vellani will bring the character to life and many elements in the series reflect the culture they represent. The early episodes also include some fun nods to Bollywood, such as a reference to superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

SRK is also known as the “King of Bollywood” and it seems that the team would be willing to reshoot the entire series to include sequences starring the Bollywood icon. Directing duo Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah talked about how they would tackle it if the actor would decide to join their production during the Disney+ series’ official press release.

If he wants to, we would shoot again. We’d reshoot some scenes with Shah Rukh Khan.

Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah

Everyone was excited about the prospect of the Bollywood icon potentially appearing in the show. So, if they potentially get multiple sequels or even a film made, perhaps Marvel Studios can find a way for Shah Rukh Khan to find his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That way, the team isn’t forced to reshoot what they already worked on this shortly before the series is officially released on Disney.

Still, it’s fun to see everyone’s excitement regarding the Bollywood actor and opening the door to what could be in the future. Maybe they can get at least Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo to appear as a fellow Bollywood star that is showing the United States off to his actor friend. There are a lot of fun ways they could make it work.

  • ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Showrunners Have All 5 Seasons Mapped Out

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Showrunners Have All 5 Seasons Mapped Out

The Lord of the Rings is about to make a grand return as a new series is on the horizon titled The Rings of Power. It looks like showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, alongside director and executive producer JA Bayona, have already mapped out the entire series, which will consist of five seasons. They plan to explore all that Middle-Earth has to offer and they already know exactly what the final shot for the last episode will be.

We even know what our final shot of the last episode is going to be. The rights that Amazon bought were for a 50-hour show. They knew from the beginning that was the size of the canvas – this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end. There are things in the first season that don’t pay off until Season 5.

    JD Payne

They also talk about the inspirations that the book’s original author J. R. R. Tolkien had intended with his original book series.

It was like Tolkien put some stars in the sky and let us make out the constellations. In his letters [particularly in one to his publisher], Tolkien talked about wanting to leave behind a mythology that ‘left scope for other minds and hands, wielding the tools of paint, music and drama.’ We’re doing what Tolkien wanted. As long as we felt like every invention of ours was true to his essence, we knew we were on the right track.

    JD Payne

The series is going to be the most expensive produced series ever, and it’s insane to think just how committed Amazon is to this series. Ordering five seasons early on showcases how much they believe in the potential and we’ll see how it may honor the iconic fantasy novels and films that came before it.

  • Disney+’s ‘I Am Groot’ Shorts May Not be MCU Canon

Disney+’s ‘I Am Groot’ Shorts May Not be MCU Canon

Here’s a surprise, while it seemed like most of the upcoming projects from Marvel Studios would remain as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they may be twisting that moving forward. X-Men ’97 already hinted at something as part of a different universe, but it seems the I Am Groot shorts might be their own thing as well according to producer James Gunn. While discussing the newly announced release window for the series, the Guardians of the GAlaxy director revealed that they aren’t necessarily part of the “Guardians saga” and went on to further elaborate:

It doesn’t really denounce that these shorts aren’t something that takes place within the larger MCU, but rather that it very likely doesn’t matter to themselves. In a way, it just exists in its own little pocket especially as it explores a time when Groot was during the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It wouldn’t be too surprised if it just exists as its own story that just happens to use elements from the original franchise that it technically takes place in it but still explores its own story without needing to connect.

It wouldn’t be too surprising, however, to see how Marvel Studios starts growing beyond its mainline franchise. They have introduced a multiverse of opportunities and it wouldn’t be too surprising that they start to explore standalone stories within the MCU that aren’t dependent on being part of its main storyline. Plus, these shorts have generally been more independent storylines that focused on telling some cute and funny jokes rather than be an ongoing storyline, as we’ve seen with Olaf quite a bit on his Disney+ journey.

  • Ms. Marvel’s New Powers in the Disney+ Show Aren’t Due to Mr. Fantastic

Ms. Marvel’s New Powers in the Disney+ Show Aren’t Due to Mr. Fantastic

If you’ve been wondering if the changes done to Disney+’s version of Ms. Marvel are due to the upcoming Fantastic Four film, this may outweigh that fear. When we first heard rumors of her getting a new power set, there were quite a few concerns that the changes might be a bit too drastic and take away from the character.

Her Embiggening powers were theorized to be too close to that of Mr. Fantastic. Still, according to writer and producer Sana Amanat, who is also the character’s co-creator, that wasn’t the case. In an interview with The Direct, she talked about what was the true decision on changing her powers that are not of fantastical origin.

Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t think so. I mean, from my understanding, it was kind of linked to the type of story that we wanted to tell with Kamala, and not only linkage to other MCU events, but also to the sense of history that she has and the relationship to her family, linking the powers to her family’s past. I think that was really the bigger idea.

    Sana Amanat

So, if you’ve wondered if that was the reason, it seems that her connection to Captain Marvel, especially with her upcoming appearance in The Marvels, is very likely the main cause for this connection. The new powers are also still paying tribute to the originals with some added benefits. We’ll see how it may evolve in the future and who knows if an Inhuman connection is still set up potentially with future episodes. For now, it remains speculation.

  • Wyatt Russell Praises Marvel, Expresses Desire to Return as U.S. Agent

Wyatt Russell Praises Marvel, Expresses Desire to Return as U.S. Agent

Marvel Studios has spent the last couple years introducing a plethora of characters to its ever-expanding cinematic universe. One of the first new faces that fans met in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase was Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, the government-sponsored Captain America who quickly became a thorn in the side of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and his best frenemy Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan). By the end of The Flacon and the Winter Soldier’s six episodes, Wilson had taken over as Captain America while Walker took on a fresh identity as U.S. Agent. Russell’s character was last seen coming into the employ of Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ mysterious Val, and has not made an appearance since.

While promoting his latest project, FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven, the former Black Mirror star was asked about a potential crossover with co-star Andrew Garfield in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both actors appear in Banner of Heaven, and Russell told THR he’d be more than willing to do anything Marvel asked of him:

Sure. I’ll let you pitch that to Kevin Feige. If you come to Marvel, you can go pitch that to Kevin Feige and see if he likes it. I’ll do a crossover with anyone they tell me to do a crossover with.

    Wyatt Russell

He continued to reveal just how incredible his experience with the company really was, and insisted he’ll return as soon as they’re ready to have him back:

I really enjoy playing the character, and my experience working with Marvel was an unbelievable working experience and collaborative, working with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, and Kari Skogland. The teams they have there are unbelievable. It’s why they make great things. So, anytime I get the opportunity or hear about the chance to reprise a character or work for Marvel again, it’s very exciting because the people are wonderful. So, hopefully, I’ll get to do it again. We’ll see.

    Wyatt Russell

There are currently no public plans for U.S. Agent to make another appearance in the MCU, but the nature of his final scene would suggest Kevin Feige probably has something up his sleeve for the character’s future. Until then, fans can see Russell in Under the Banner of Heaven, now streaming on Hulu.

  • Ms. Marvel Will Learn to “Tell Her Own Story”

Ms. Marvel Will Learn to “Tell Her Own Story”

The initial trailer for Ms. Marvel teased a much lighter experience for a Marvel Studios Disney+ show. It’s also following one of its darkest as Moon Knight kicked off 2022 before passing the torch to the young heroine. Still, it looks like there might be something a bit darker ahead for the young heroine as revealed during the official press event for the Disney+ series.

The cast and crew had a bit of a challenge not giving away any story beats, but found a way to hint at where the story is heading, highlighting Kamala Khan’s self-discovery at the core of the story and the weight of learnign to be her own heroine rather than just emulating those she looks up to.

In searching for her identity, Kamala Khan is going to go on this journey to reconnect with her family, to understand why it’s so important to tell her own story and craft that story and to feel she could be that superhero she could always be, but it would be her being the superhero instead of emulating someone else.

    Meera Menon

They do promise that things will get darker, but Kevin Feige highlights that this was what they are trying to do and ensure that “Marvel Studios” being above a logo doesn’t define what it’s going to be like. So, we might expect a few more diverse projects from the studio in the future, as we got a horror-inspired film with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness while Thor: Love and Thunder is seemingly focusing on a more romantic-comedy style. So, it’s goign to be interesting to see how Ms. Marvel‘s story develops and maybe even catches us off-guard.

  • ‘Luke Cage’s Mike Colter Debunks MCU Return Rumors

‘Luke Cage’s Mike Colter Debunks MCU Return Rumors

Just last month, an image surfaced between Mike Colter and Krysten Ritter that included the wording “Big Tease” and the initials of their Marvel characters, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. There have already been quite a few rumors that Ritter might return in an upcoming project, especially with Charlie Cox‘s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it definitely added some weight to Colter potentially reprising his Luke Cage role as well.

Yet, in an interview with The View, he revealed that it wasn’t more than just two former colleagues meeting up. While the Instagram post including the reference does add a lot more questions, it does seem they just live “really close to each other” and that’s what led to them bumping into each other.

You know, we live in a neighborhood really close to each other, and it’s funny, we bumped into each other at a strawberry patch that’s like an hour away, and we just happened to be in the same place hanging out with our kids. And I bumped into another actor who I did not know, who came up to me; we were talking and he’s like, ‘oh, you know Krysten [Ritter’s] here.’ And [I’m like], ‘Krysten?’ I thought they were friends. So then I texted her and she pops up in front of me and we start hanging out and let the kids play… I don’t know what’s happening with Marvel. I, you know, I loved working with her and really don’t know anything other than that. That’s it.”

    Mike Colter

Mike Colter has been quite busy working on his series Evil, and it does seem like he might not have the time to make a grand MCU return. Yet, we’ve also had many theories in regard to other projects. So, we’ll have to see if he ends up surprising us with a sudden return in a future project.

  • ‘Hawkeye’ Composers Already Working on Next Marvel Project

‘Hawkeye’ Composers Already Working on Next Marvel Project

The Hawkeye composers Christophe Beck and Michael Paraskevas have left quite an imprint on the Disney+ series. Not only did it bring an emotional score to what may be Marvel Studios’ most grounded storylines, but they also had the joy of adding a Christmas/Holiday cheer to make it stand out. In a recent interview with BTL News, they revealed that the series was initially going to be darker, but also teased that they’ve already started work on the next Marvel project.

Sadly, they wouldn’t give away what exactly the project might be, if Disney+ series or film, but they also hinted that it’s not the only project they’re involved with. It seems they are also working on a Disney film, but can’t talk about either.

Another project for Marvel we can’t talk about and another Disney film we can’t talk about.

    Christophe Beck

For now, we can only speculate but there are quite a few projects in the pipeline that could be the perfect match. In the same interview, they’ve also praised the opportunity of tackling this mini-series as the six-episode runtime gave them more flexibility than they’d otherwise not have to fully explore the themes for the entire series instead of just hoping one episode per week can be brought together.

One of the things I love about these miniseries Marvel is working on is that I had a sense for the entire story. Back in the earlier days, like when I worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I was flying by the seat of my pants. They’re cranking out an episode a week for a long time and I just had to improvise. Here, by contrast, I know where it’s going, so I was not surprised by a plot twist later, and I could create a holistic musical universe.

    Christophe Beck

Both composers have a background working on musical numbers. So, they may be involved with the upcoming Disenchanted film or even the live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In regards to Marvel, they also worked on Ant-Man and the Wasp. So, it could be likely he moved on to tackle the third entry, Quantumania. It’s only speculation but it’ll be interesting to see what they are tackling next.
