  • ‘The Umbrella Academy’s Final Season Adds Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally

‘The Umbrella Academy’s Final Season Adds Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally

One of Netflix’s biggest releases is about to wrap up with its final season, as The Umbrella Academy is gearing up to start filming soon. The series made quite a splash for the streaming service as it continued to grow with big-name IPs. Sadly, we’re about to see it come to an end but it seems like they are going all out with the final season.

ET has shared that Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman have joined Umbrella Academy. The actually married couple is set to play “a mild-mannered married couple named Jean and Gene, who are college professors” in the upcoming final season. Mullally revealed it to ET during the premiere of Party Down’s third season though she also highlights that “the deal’s not quite closed but let’s just pretend it is.”

It’s quite a power move to just reveal that you’re cast in a big-budget show without having finalized the deal, but the power couple certainly can. Nick Offerman was just recently in the spotlight for his mesmerizing performance in The Last of Us and it’s great to see him already eyeing his next project. Mullally also revealed that she was the one o convince her husband to take on the role, as he almost would’ve passed on it due to being so busy.

  • ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Wasted The Sparrows

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Wasted The Sparrows

When the second season of The Umbrella Academy came to a close, fans were left on the edge of their seats as they’d believe the Hargeeves siblings had escaped the apocalypse that had brought them into the 1960s. Upon their return to what they thought to be their childhood home, the Hargeeves siblings were met with confusion. After all, their father Reginald Hargeeves, whose death brought the family back together in Season 1, was now alive and well. As it turned out, though, this Reginald was not their father. The place they’d thought to be their home was actually none other than the Sparrow Academy. The end of the season gave fans a glimpse at the Ben of their timeline, as well as silhouettes of the Sparrows.

With the tease of the Sparrows, fans were thrilled at what Season 3 might have in store. After all, it was a brand new mystery featuring a new set of mysteriously powered children born on Oct. 1st, 1989. As the Sparrows are the children that Reginald was unable to get in the original timeline, Season 3 seemed full of promise and quickly proved it would be unable to handle this new ground of characters as evident by Marcus being wiped from existence by episode’s end,

The show begins quickly doing away with many of the Sparrows as quick as they can, spacing it out so that it does not seem like they really want them gone. Marcus was the one member that actually showed some development as he was willing to work with the Umbrellas to try and fix what was going on, but the show didn’t seem to have someone else taking up precious screen time from any of the Umbrellas. Sure, his powers weren’t all that interesting, as he had similar abilities to Luther, minus the gorilla DNA that malformed Luther’s body.

Perhaps the biggest issue with many of the characters is how one-note most of them feel. In fact, many of them don’t get much development besides Ben and Sloane, with Ben constantly bumping back and forth like the writers weren’t fully committed to what they wanted to do with this new version of a previously beloved character. Alphonso , Fei, and Jayme are kind of just there to serve as the muscle and never really expanding behind that. We even see that, at one point, Alphonso is not as deformed as he once was, but the show does little to elaborate on that. This is in no way on the actors and actresses, as they all look great and do the best that they can with what they’ve been given.

Christopher was probably the biggest misfire of the season. Of course, he is a living flesh cube, but no one ever cares to ask why and the show doesn’t care to make any explanations. In some ways, it works, as none of them really give it a second thought after all the crazy shit they’ve all seen the past few days. That doesn’t excuse that he is solely used as a plot device here and there in the season.

Now of course, it is The Umbrella Academy and not The Sparrow Academy, so naturally, the focus would still remain on the main characters. However, it felt like such a major cop out with the Sparrows. The characters were hyped, and we were led to believe they’d be the main antagonists of the next season. Instead, they decided to completely pivot from what could’ve been a unique entry in the series with yet another apocalypse to try and fix.

  • ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Showrunner Only Planned on Four Seasons

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Showrunner Only Planned on Four Seasons

The Umbrella Academy has always felt like the little show that could. The cult Netflix series debuted in 2019 to mixed reviews, but has since found it’s footing and, after three zany seasons, has left fans begging for more. In a sea of comic book adaptations and uber-popular superheroes, the wonky cast of characters that inhabit the world created by Gerard Way somehow manage to be uniquely likable.

Season 3 saw the titular characters, once again, trying to prevent the end of the world. Their antics saw them existing in a timeline they shouldn’t and, after 10 episodes, the Umbrellas have inexplicably put themselves in a place to start over for a fourth time – in a brand new reality with no superpowers. With so much room to run creatively, showrunner Steve Blackman spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his plans for the future of the series:

We haven’t been picked up — I have my fingers crossed. But I know what season four is in my head. I’ve already sort of worked out the beginning, middle and end of it. When I started this thing, I sort of knew four seasons of the show. I have nothing passed that in my brain, but I’ve sort of kept to a trajectory. So, I have a really good sense of what season four would be, and it should be just as bonkers as the other seasons — what a challenge these superheroes, this family has being powerless.

    Steve Blackman

If renewed, it sounds like season 4 of the super-family dramedy could be it’s last. As sad as that may sound, all good things must eventually come to an end. It’s also still possible Blackman and his team strike storytelling gold and spawn ideas for a fifth season along the way. After all, the show has now outlived its source material, meaning anything beyond this point must be wholly original.

  • ‘Euphoria’ Star Javon Walton Joins ‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 3

‘Euphoria’ Star Javon Walton Joins ‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 3

We have yet to get an official release date for the third season of Umbrella Academy, but things seem to be ramping up over a Netflix. So, we could be close. Over the past few weeks, Netflix has released a series of character posters featuring the Umbrella Academy and the mysterious Sparrow Academy. There’s still no date in sight, but it seems another star has joined the project in a mysterious role.

Netflix took to Twitter today to confirm that Euphoria star Javon Walton has indeed joined season 3 of Umbrella Academy, although it is unknown just who he will be playing. He is best known for his role as Ashtray in the first two seasons of Euphoria. He played a drug dealer and was the adoptive brother of Fez. Walton first teased his casting during an interview with Complex in which he listed his upcoming projects only for Netflix to confirm it now.

Just a last month Netflix revealed that Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David had all joined the cast as members of the Sparrow Academy. It’s possible that Walton could be playing the seventh member of the Academy, maybe even lending his voice to the mysterious cube. The cliffhanger ending of season two left fans on the edge of their seats with the reveal of a newly altered timeline due to their meddling. This season is sure to be highly anticipated and will definitely turn the series on its head.

  • ‘Umbrella Academy’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Britne Oldford as Sparrow Academy’s Fei

‘Umbrella Academy’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Britne Oldford as Sparrow Academy’s Fei

Netflix just recently dropped. major franchise as they decided not to move forward with the second season of Jupiter’s Legacy. Still, it isn’t their only superhero-focused franchise s they’re also still busy filming the upcoming third season of Umbrella Academy. Last month, we got our first look at Elliot Page on the set of the production and it seems that wasn’t all. @seansmovies shared an image on Twitter that reveals our first look at Britne Oldford as Fei Hargreeves, a member of the Sparrow Academy.

We got introduced to the Sparrow Academy at the end of the last season. The group is similar to the Umbrella Academy as their actions in the past led to a brand new timeline where their father Sir Reginald Hargreeves build a new team. The roster was plucked from the 43 children who were adopted by Hargreeves, as they were all born simultaneously. In the comics, the team was only given the title The Sparrows. The series already seems to imply we’ll get more time with them as some of the members didn’t even have names in the original comic. It’s unclear what role they will have and if our team of unlikely heroes will find a way back to their original timeline. Whatever direction Netflix’s next series is heading, it will certainly be a wild ride.

  • First Look at Elliot Page on Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ Set

First Look at Elliot Page on Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ Set

The next season of The Umbrella Academy has been in production for some time now. After the ending of the last season, we were teased of the arrival of the Sparrow Academy. The third season will explore this new timeline, where Sir Reginald left his original family behind to adopt a new one. His hope was that these new groups would avoid the dark future he saw in a vision. We got the official casting announcement a few months ago, but have been wondering when we’ll get a look at the cast from the original timeline. Luckily, our wait has paid off as the first images have found their way from the set. Photographer Sean O’Neill shared an image giving us our first look at Elliot Page on the series’ set.

That is not all, as we also got a closer look at Tom Hopper wearing a muscle suit in Hamilton’s Gage Park.

In December 2019, Elliot Page publicly announced his transition and publicly discussed the difficulties of identifying as a boy while often playing the role of a girl. However, Netflix embraced the change and even adapted the credits from the previous projects to showcase his change. He will continue playing the role of Vanya Hargreeves in Umbrella Academy, who was portrayed as a cisgender woman. It is uncertain if they might decide to adapt to the role, but currently, there still seem to be no plans. Seeing Elliot on the set could be an indicator that they will allow the actor to embrace his new identity and add a new layer of complexity to the character.

  • ‘THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY’ Casts Its Sparrow Academy

‘THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY’ Casts Its Sparrow Academy

After being renewed for a third season this past November, we now have further confirmation on how the cast for Umbrella Academy‘s new season will look like. The Hargreeves children discovered that their actions have led to a brand new timeline. This led up to the final scene of season two teasing the appearance of the Sparrow Academy. Following these events in Dallas, Sir Reginald got a glimpse of what the future held for both himself and his Umbrella Academy. In order to give himself a future, where he didn’t have to die in order to bring his estranged children back together, he decided to get different children altogether. As such, making up a team that would hopefully be able to avoid the apocalypse in a way the older ones couldn’t in the first season.

This new team is now confirmed to feature Justin CornwellGenesis Rodriguez, Britne OldfordJake Epstein, and Cazzie David. Justin H. Min. will also be part of the ensemble after portraying the main timeline’s Ben Hargreeves in the first two seasons of the show. The third season, which will consist of 10 episodes, will hopefully begin production this February and will see the return of stars Elliot PageTom HopperAidan GallagherRitu AryaDavid CastenedaEmmy-Raver-Lampman, and Robert Sheehan. It will be interesting to see the conflict between these two families escalate throughout the next season, and how much it’ll follow the original comic. The Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube is already going to be an interesting addition to an already crazy show.

  • ‘Umbrella Academy’ Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix

‘Umbrella Academy’ Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix

The second season of Netflix’s hit show Umbrella Academy, based on the comics by Singer/Songwriter Gerard Way, released its second season in late July and received critical praise for approving upon much of what was already great within the first season. For a while, many have wondered if the show was to come back for a third season and the long-term radio silence from Netflix didn’t bode well considering their track record this year.

It’s now being reported the show will indeed return for a third season on the popular streaming service. The second season finale found the team sent back to the present day after being trapped in the 60s for over a year. After escaping the apocalypse, they returned to find the timeline altered by their actions causing the Umbrella Academy to cease to exist with the new and mysterious Sparrow Academy in their place. With the reveal of the time altered Sparrow Academy at the end of the shows previous season, it wouldn’t be much of a far cry to assume that they’ll be adapted the Hotel Oblivion storyline, a fairly recent addition to the source material, having been released only in June of 2019.

The third season will begin production in February, will consist of 10-hour long episodes and will see the return of stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Justin H. Min, Aidan Gallagher, Ritu Arya, David Casteneda, Emmy-Raver-Lampman and Robert Sheehan.
