  • Zack Snyder Gave His Blessing for Michael Shannon to Return as Zod in ‘The Flash’

Zack Snyder Gave His Blessing for Michael Shannon to Return as Zod in ‘The Flash’

Zack Snyder is always a big discussion point online, as his very specific group of fans continues to try to keep the “legacy” alive as much as possible. Even as the DC franchise is starting to move away from what he initially started with Man of Steel. It seems Michael Shannon wasn’t sure either when Andy Muschietti asked him to reprise the role of Zod from the film in the next DCEU entry, The Flash.

I was hesitant [to come back] because I wasn’t really happy about what happened to Zack Snyder in that whole deal … And I really love Zack. The fact that Zack asked me to play that part to begin with – that’s probably the biggest surprise of my career. It almost felt like a practical joke. I was like, ‘You’re kidding me, right?’

    Michael Shannon

He goes on to share what it was like when Muschietti offered him the role and it seems he even had some drawings prepared to showcase his vision of what The Flash would look like if he returned to the role and how it would shape the story. Shannon even still owns a drawing from that pitch.

But I talked to Andy [Muschietti] about it, and I liked Andy, and I said, ‘Andy, look – I just want to get Zack’s blessing on this because it just doesn’t feel right without that.’ And Zack, to his credit, was very understanding. He gave me his blessing, and I went to do it. I loved Andy, too. I loved working with Andy. They’re both super creative guys. Andy’s an amazing artist. He would just make these drawings when I was sitting there talking to him. I’d look over and say, ‘Hey, can I keep that?’ and he’d go, ‘Sure!’ and sign it and give it to me.

    Michael Shannon

He does, however, highlight that we shouldn’t expect much depth from his version of Zod in The Flash, as they may have seemingly used him as a way to set up an antagonist that blocks our heroes’ way as teased by the trailers.

But, you know, it’s just really different – these kind of multiverse situations … The story is a lot more all over the place, you know? And I feel like I mainly exist in ‘The Flash’ as, like, an obstacle or a problem. Whereas, in ‘Man of Steel,’ it was more of a story. Like, ‘The Flash’ is definitely about The Flash – as it should be. So, it’s not as in-depth.

    Michael Shannon

It’s great to know that Zack Snyder gave his blessing to the project and that he was able to return. This film almost feels like a final swan song for that era of DCEU that was built upon Man of Steel’s release. So, we’ll see if it pays tribute to the past while setting the stage for the future.

  • SDCC: Zack Snyder Heading to ‘Teen Titans Go!’

SDCC: Zack Snyder Heading to ‘Teen Titans Go!’

In what might just be the most unexpected news to come from San Diego Comic-Con, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Zack Snyder is returning to DC. Just not in the way some fans might’ve hoped. The outlet has revealed that Snyder is set to guest star on Teen Titans Go!

The director is set to appear in the 365th episode of the animated series, which will be titled “365!” To celebrate their 365th episode, the Teen Titans want to do something special. This results in them heading to Warner Bros. to find a director, only to stumble upon Snyder. The episode will air on Cartoon Network this fall.

Snyder, of course, has a long history with DC and Warner Bros. – with not all of it being great. The director helped to kick off the DC Extended Universe, before having to exit Justice League due to a family tragedy. Justice League would later hit theaters, but not without controversy. Fans would later successfully get Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to finish the Snyder-cut of Justice League, which aired exclusively on HBO Max last year before being released on home media.

While it’s not the Snyder return fans were probably looking for, fans should be pleased to see Snyder’s still involved with DC… kind of.

SDCC: Jim Lee Once Again Confirms There Are No Future Plans to Expand ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’

San Diego Comic-Con becomes an opportunity for fans to interact with the people they look up to. It also gives us insight into the future plans of DC Comics, Warne Bros., Marvel Studios, and more. During a panel featuring DC’s Jim Lee, a fan got the chance to ask bout the future of the infamous Snyderverse that many fans hoped would form after HBO Max’s release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Lee had the following to say:

I work on the projects that are in development, right? So, I think the Snyder Cut was Zack’s vision realized and it was a really satisfying story told but there are no plans for additional work on that material.

    Jim Lee

He did highlight that he was happy to support Zack Snyder‘s pitch for future entries that were showcased in an exclusive exhibit. So, for those that were hoping that Warner Bros. was secretly working on a Snyderverse sequel of some kind. His original vision for a potential trilogy will remain as a dream, and perhaps he’ll get a chance to release it in the form of a comic or book.

The thing that is worth noting is that the Snyderverse movement has been put under scrutiny due to bot usage to further spread its message. While many are discussing just what the data provided truly means, there’s a lot we don’t fully know bout the story. Perhaps it’ll find its way online at some point in the future, but for now the HBO Max special will remain as something special.

  • ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s Ray Porter on Why Darkseid Never Returned to Earth

‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s Ray Porter on Why Darkseid Never Returned to Earth

2021 saw the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a film that definitely caused some ruckus upon its initial release back in 2017. The theatrical cut of the film by Joss Whedon saw many crucial elements and character arcs cut in order to meet a two-hour studio-mandated runtime. One element, in particular, that was cut revolved around the Lord of Apokolips himself, Darkseid. Reduced to only a few mentions within the film the character was nowhere to be seen until Snyder got back to work.

One thing that’s still causing a lot of folks to scratch their heads, even a year after the release of the film, was how Darkseid did not remember that the anti-life equation was on Earth. Following a brutal defeat by the tribes of man and their allies, the then-called Uxas and his army of Parademons were chased back to Apokolips, and simply never returned. Luckily, actor Ray Porter, who lent his voice to the character, recently sat down with FandomWire to chat where he gave his take on the subject.

Consider the fact that he’s turned a hundred thousand worlds to dust; it was so long ago that he found this equation and then it was taken from him in battle and he always wanted to ‘re-find’ it. We are talking so many thousands of years, so many planets, universes, and possible Earths. Uxas, the person who became Darkseid has also changed so much in that long timespan. So, for someone whose knowledge spans so much, maybe the knowledge got lost in the vastness that it was on this Earth in particular. And then, Steppenwolf, of all people approaches him about this.

    Ray Porter

One day we may see Darkseid return to DC Extended Universe but it looks like it could be a while before he makes his way back to earth. For now, all we get is his short appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

  • Zack Snyder Starts Production on ‘Rebel Moon’ With First Set Photos

Zack Snyder Starts Production on ‘Rebel Moon’ With First Set Photos

There’s been a lot of excitement for Zack Snyder‘s next project for Netflix, as he is taking a break from a zombie-filled world to embrace a space opera. What was originally pitched as part of the Star Wars franchise has now become its own potential franchise started titled Rebel Moon. The Justice League director took to Twitter to share that they’ve not only started production on the project but also included a few set photos teasing what they’re up to on the first day of production.

What naturally sticks out is our first look at Djimon Honsou, who is in a piece of armor that was teased with some artwork for the series early on. We can see that they are filming in a desert with a tease of the interior of whatever their flightcraft is that’ll bring them from one planet to another. Going by the wound and sand on his face, he likely ends up in a battle once arriving on this desert planet.

We’ve gotten a few teases on the film’s story, as it’ll take some inspiration from the classic Seven Samurai film to follow an unlikely group that has to face off against the biggest threat they probably have no chance to defeat. It’ll be interesting to see what Snyder brings to the film with his usual style and flair, especially with the backdrop given for this project. Perhaps some Star Wars references also still managed to stick in the story as a nice nod to what almost was.

  • Wayne T. Carr Shares First High-Res Look at His Green Lantern for Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

Wayne T. Carr Shares First High-Res Look at His Green Lantern for Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

Back in May of 2021, we got our first look at Wayne T. Carr as the Green Lantern that Zack Snyder originally envisioned for his Justice League film. Sadly, it didn’t even make its way into the HBO Max special he was able to make, as Warner Bros. wouldn’t let him use the character. He only offered a shot of what could’ve been through his phone, but on the one-year anniversary, actor Wayne T. Carr just shared a high-res look at him in the costume offering the best look yet at what could’ve been. Not only that, but he is also continuing the “Restore the SnyderVerse” movement hoping to see the two planned sequels see the light of day, or maybe just the brightest day.

It’s a nice touch for the first-year anniversary and it really is a shame we didn’t get to see his version of the character. The design looks great, and the symbol floating above the chest piece has been a personal favorite addition to their design. So, it’s great seeing it in live-action. Warner Bros. is still working on a live-action series and film focused on the Green Lantern Corps, but the project has gone cold quite some time ago. For now, we’re still waiting for an official announcement as it’s mostly just been rumored.

  • Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin

Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin

Zack Snyder continues his work to expand his tenure at Netflix with a new space opera film titled Rebel Moon. What originally started a Star Wars pitch, is going to become a unique storyline that takes inspiration from classic Samurai films to offer us a story that may be unlike those that came before it. The film has already garnered an impressive cast but has now added two more in the form of Anatomy of a Scandal‘s Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin of Army of Thieves fame.

    https://twitter.com/netflixgeeked/status/1498382521054203908?s=21

It is worth highlighting that Friend is set to play a lead bad guy in the upcoming film. There are still no details on what role exactly he might be tackling, but we still know very little about the project outside of a rough draft of its core storyline. It’ll be fun to see Snyder attempt a space storyline, as he’s always been in his best element in a storyline that allows for him to unleash his full creativity. Plus, it seems that Netflix is very open to letting him have free reign on his projects, which certainly helps his approach. We just recently got some artwork teasing the project and we’re still a few months away from it actually releasing, but it’s cast and the concept do sound promising for those looking forward to a new space-centric storyline to push the genre forward.

  • Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and More

Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and More

Zack Snyder has made quite the home for himself at Netflix with Army of The Dead spawning multiple spin-offs and a sequel. The director has since expanded his work for the streamer, as he has begun developing Rebel Moon, a sci-fi film on a planet threatened by Regent Balisarius with only a few warriors to protect it. The project has only added Sophia Boutella in the leading role and not much was known about the project. Luckily, Snyder has now announced more of the cast, which will feature some familiar faces from his past works.

Joining the cast of Rebel Moon will be Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang with more casting set to be announced soon. It’s unknown just who each of them will be playing as plot and character details still remain under wraps. With the casting announcement came some new concept art that could offer us our first look at the tyrannical Regent along with what looks to be a few of the warriors in the film.

Snyder is best known for films like Watchmen and 300, as well as kicking off the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel. He recently was able to finish the work he could never finish with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. No release date for the film has been set just yet as production is set to begin sometime in April until August. Rebel Moon will be the second franchise Snyder hopes to build at the streamer with what looks like a rich new universe for him to explore and build.

  • Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Sofia Boutella

Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Sofia Boutella

It looks like Zack Snyder‘s upcoming film has found a new star, as Sofia Boutella will join the Netflix production of Rebel Moon. The film will be written by Snyder alongside Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. Some time ago, the project was once planned to be a Star Wars film that was rewritten. The director made a deal with the streamer after the success of his film Army of the Dead, as he also recently produced the first spin-off based on this new zombie-filled cinematic universe.

The film will explore a peaceful colony in the galaxy that is suddenly threatened by a tyrant known as Regent Balisarius. Their only hope is a young woman that is set to find warriors to take a stand. It wasn’t an easy process, as they’ve met with talent for months before settling on Boutella for the lead role. According to Deadline, her performance wowed the Justice League director and convinced him she was perfect for the role.

Boutella has made a name for herself with her performances in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond, and Atomic Blonde. The former was her breakout role in Hollywood that got her various roles in the industry. She recently appeared in Wyatt Rockefeller‘s debut Settlers. We cannot wait to see what she brings to the role in this new take on a sci-fi epic.

  • Zack Snyder Hints at Ludwig Dieter’s Return in His ‘Army of the Dead’ Sequel Now Titled ‘Planet of the Dead’

Zack Snyder Hints at Ludwig Dieter’s Return in His ‘Army of the Dead’ Sequel Now Titled ‘Planet of the Dead’

Zack Snyder‘s deal with Netflix will continue to bring more content to audiences in the forthcoming years. After this year’s Army of the Dead and the upcoming prequel titled Army of Thieves, which Snyder respectively directed and produced, we are now entering sequel territory with the newly named project, Planet of the Dead. This in-development sequel, that Snyder teased back in May 2021, does not, as of yet, have a release date nor has its production schedule been announced. In an interview, Snyder offered one glimpse into the upcoming sequel with the potential return of Ludwig Dieter.

But the real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives.

    Zack Snyder

With the wait for Planet of the Dead only just beginning, audiences can catch Dieter’s return in the prequel Army of Thieves, which releases tomorrow, October 29, on Netflix. Matthias Schweighofer, who plays the German safecracker, also took over the directing role. Snyder is currently working on his Rebel Moon feature film for the streaming service, a sci-fi adventure inspired by Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars. So, the sequel might not enter production until he wraps up work on it.
