Amy Pascal Blown Away by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’; Eyeing Long-Term MCU Future with Destin Daniel Cretton

With the highly anticipated premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day swinging closer to its global theatrical launch on July 31, 2026, both Marvel and Sony are already thinking ahead to the future of their shared Spidey franchise.

During a recent round of interviews ahead of the debut of the new installment, longtime franchise shepherd and producer Amy Pascal showered praise on director Destin Daniel Cretton, indicating that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are hoping to secure a long-term, multi-film partnership with the filmmaker.

Destin has really blown all our minds, and we hope that he will continue to make Spider-Man movies with us,” Pascal revealed. “The thing about Destin is he’s an incredibly gifted action director, but there is not one thing in this movie that doesn’t come from emotion and heart and character. As much as we loved working with Jon [Watts], and he made a certain kind of movie, Destin has made something really special too.”

It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.

The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

While Pascal’s goal is to instantly get Cretton back to the director’s chair for a fifth film, actualizing that timeline requires navigating significant logistical hurdles. Cretton is one of the single busiest assets in the entertainment industry; following the July 31 launch of Brand New Day, he’ll reportedly ump directly into helming his highly anticipated, live-action feature film adaptation of Naruto for Lionsgate.

Concurrently, Marvel Studios still has a Shang-Chi sequel and a second season the streaming hit Wonder Man. However, over the course of its partnership with Marvel Studios, Sony has historically pushed to have a new Spider-Man film in theaters every two years. Should they hope to continue that trend, Spidey 5 would need to head into production next year, giving Cretton little to no time to work on anything but the next adventure of Tom Holland‘s Webhead.
