Before audiences head to see Avengers: Doomsday in December, Marvel Studios is sending Avengers: Endgane back to theaters are packing the re-release with substantial new material. According to industry insider Cryptic4KQual, the upcoming special re-release, officially titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, will feature as much as 7 minutes of additional footage.
The extensive expansion from Kevin Feige and directors Joe and Anthony Russo, allows the studio to reframe the 2019 cinematic crown jewel to as a direct and essential narrative bridge into Avengers: Doomsday.
Slated to officially storm theaters on September 15, 202, the re-realease will be the first film presented in Infinity Vision, Disney’s premier theatrical certification designed to help audiences identify the absolute “biggest, brightest, and most immersive” screens on the planet.
According to Disney’s official presentation parameters out of CineEurope, the extra runtime will encompass a custom introduction, newly finished bonus scenes integrated into the body of the film, and a vital, highly secure post-credits end tag designed to lead directly into Doomsday.
Speaking on the strategy during the Sands Film Festival, director Joe Russo explicitly teased that the Encore package represents a unique opportunity to retroactively enhance the weight of their upcoming ensemble film:
“You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much… It’s a really unique opportunity.“
The new footage is heavily rumored to finally resolve the lingering Infinity Saga’s loose ends regarding exactly how Chris Evans’ old Steve Rogers successfully navigated his alternate life with Peggy Carter to hand off the shield.
