Marvel Studios ‘ETERNALS’: Who is Thena?

With the Infinity Saga coming to a close, Marvel Studios is preparing to launch into an all-new, all-different era beginning with Phase 4. While several properties are going to serve as deeper dives into already established characters and worlds, Eternals is going to introduce new characters and change what we think we know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Eternals were born in the mind of Jack Kirby as Marvel Comics “ancient aliens”: beings of immense power who had protected Earth since the beginning of time. Over the course of history, the Eternals and their enemies, the Deviants, worked their way into the religions and mythologies of many cultures gods and monsters, angels and devils and heroes and villains. Marvel Studios will certainly put their own spin on the characters, but we can still take an opportunity to get to know them here…in 400 words or less!

Thena by Arkenstellar 2014 - YouTube

The daughter of the modern Prime Eternal, Zuras, Thena has been a part of the Marvel Comic mythology since she first appeared as the Roman goddess Minerva in 1940’s Red Raven #1. Retconned by Jack Kirby in Eternals #5, Thena has served as one of the Eternals fiercest warriors, often being confused for Minerva’s Greek counterpart and daughter of Zeus, Athena, over time. While Thena has served as the tip of the spear in the Eternals endless battles with the Deviants, she also found herself falling in love with one of their most ruthless warlords and eventual leader, Kro, over the course of a couple of thousand years. Thena became pregnant with twins which she decided to transfer into the womb of a mortal woman who then gave birth to the Deviant-Eternal hybrids. Those children, Deborah and Donald, eventually learned their true origins and of their incredible power: they could merge into one being, the Dark Angel, who grew wings and could, like many Eternals, project powerful beams from its eyes.

Trailer Watch: Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek And The Rest Of The Eternals Have One Week To Save The World In Chloe Zhao's Marvel Epic - TODAY

Angelina Jolie will portray the warrior Thena in Eternals. Interestingly, trailers have shown Thena interacting with the Deviant Kro. It’ll be interesting to see if Thena and Kro take on the role of star-crossed lovers in the film and go on to conceive the twins. While the length of Jolie’s contract with Marvel Studios is unknown, Thena’s character is one that is primed to appear in multiple films, especially if they adapt the story of her children with Kro. We also know that Thena will be affected by Mahd Wy’ry, a cognitive condition brought on by their long life that causes them to forget and can potentially drive them mad, making Thena, one of the Eternals fiercest warriors, a potential threat.

Eternals will hit theaters November 5th!

  • New Disney Plus Trailer Teases a 2020 Release for ‘WANDAVISION’, A Different Fate for ‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’

New Disney Plus Trailer Teases a 2020 Release for ‘WANDAVISION’, A Different Fate for ‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’

A newly released ‘COMING SOON 2020’ trailer by Disney Plus seemingly confirms both our worst fears and our fondest hopes. Among the many features and films promised to stream before the end of the year was the Marvel Studios series WandaVision, which promises to be one of the most mind-bending and ambitious MCU projects to date. Unfortunately not seen on the video was what without COVID-19 been the first of the studios streaming series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Though it began filming prior to WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was unable to film in some key locations due to the pandemic and that, ultimately, seems to have been its undoing, apparently pushing it to 2021. However, WandaVision, which was a much more stage-intensive shoot, might just make it for 2020, meaning we won’t go without Marvel Studios content afterall! While we’d all welcome multiple Marvel Studios properties in 2020, I can assure you that The Falcon and The Winter Solider is absolutely worth the wait to make sure it’s completed properly, so let’s all dry our tears and get ready to find out when we’ll be able to start watching WandaVision!

Jonathan Majors to Play Kang in ‘ANT-MAN 3’

According to Deadline, Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, Lovecraft Country) has signed on for a lead role in Marvel Studios upcoming Ant-Man 3. Sources close to the project have indicated that Majors will play Kang the Conqueror, one of the Avengers greatest villains.

Marvel Rumor: Kang The Conqueror To Make MCU Debut In Loki - LRM

The possibility of Kang appearing in Ant-Man 3 not only fits with the continued buzz that Peyton Reed’s third Ant-Man film will be a much bigger film than the previous two installments, but also might lend further credence to rumored appearance of the Young Avengers, first reported on Murphy’s Law Podcast. In the comics, the Young Avengers formed when a younger version of Kang traveled back in time to avoid becoming his evil, future self. That younger version, under the name Iron Lad, helped bring the heroes together to take on his future self.

‘WONDER WOMAN 1984’ To Be Delayed Yet Again

Warner Bros. is reportedly delaying the much anticipated Wonder Woman sequel one more time. Originally set to hit theaters December 13, 2019, the film will is now being rescheduled for the fifth time. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet served as the studios canary in the coal mine for theatrical releases and while they haven’t publicly expressed disappointment, tentatively moving Wonder Woman 1984 to December 25, 2020 certainly gives us all the insight we need.

The film debuted a well-received new trailer at DC’ FanDome event and has consistently been among movie goers most highly anticipated releases for 2020. Warner Bros. remains intent on giving films like Wonder Woman 1984 and Dune big, theatrical releases rather than distributing them via PVOD, but with the COVID pandemic still very much in play, there’s no telling when we might see these films.

    Sersi | Characters | Marvel

Arguably the most well-known of the Eternals thanks to her extended time on the roster of the Avengers, Sersi has always enjoyed spending time among the humans, dating back to the time of the Trojan War when she made in her into the story of Odysseus’s 10 year trip back home, through the time of King Arthur and right up until her in New York City in modern times. While all Eternals possess essentially the same power set, Sersi honed her skills of casting illusions and whimsically changing matter from one thing to another. Her talents earned her the reputation as a witch among mankind. During her time with the Avengers, Sersi found herself in the midst of the Kree-Shi’ar War, the mutant conflict on Genosha and even in battles against her own people. She also found herself in a relationship with fellow Avenger, Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight. The character first appeared as the mythological witch, Circe, in Strange Tales #109 and was retconned as an Eternal in Eternals #3.

Eternals Star Gemma Chan Shares New Details About Her Character Sersi

An interesting character thanks to her ability to seamlessly move back and forth between two very different worlds, Sersi will be one of the leads of 2021’s Eternals where she will be portrayed by Gemma Chan. Chan confirmed that her character will find herself in a bit of a love triangle in the film as long-standing rumors suggested. The film will take place over 7,000 years and cover two different timelines. One will see her long-standing relationship with Richard Madden’s Ikaris develop; the other will take place in the present day and see her pair up with Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman. It will be interesting to see not only what the pair get up to in this film but what the future holds for the two comic book Avengers!

Marvel's Eternals Is Hiding Its Villain: Here's Who We Think It Is

A Polarian Eternal and the cousin of the once and future Prime Eternal, Ikaris, Druig is a character study of nature vs. nurture and the possibility of inherent evil. The Lord of Flames and Nightmares, Druig has been a thorn in the side of his cousin, the other Eternals and a great disappointment to his family since his first appearance in Eternals #11. Dating back 1,000 plus years, Druig has always lusted for power and devised countless schemes, typically around the time that a Host of Celestials is coming to Earth, to take that power away from his fellow Eternals. While all Eternals are gifted with telepathy, Druig has refined his into a weapon by using to force people to relive their greatest fears in what amounts to a waking nightmare. In the 2006 Gaiman run, he used his powers to brainwash some of the Eternals who had yet to reawaken in hopes they would help him become the Prime Eternal. Simply put, Druig is the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Barry Keoghan is charged with bringing the duplicitous Druig to life in Chloe Zhao’s epic adventure. While very little has come to light about what role Druig will play in the film, his long-standing obsession with seizing power from others will almost certainly come into play. Whether we see him betray Ikaris or try to face off with a Celestial, we should keep our eye on this guy. While the Deviants will probably provide the punchable, obvious threat to the Eternals, it’s a safe bet that Druig will be working behind the scenes against his family.

Eternals is currently set to land in theaters on February 12, 2021.

  • Connecting Imaginary Dots: ‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’ Will Introduce Songbird

If you’ve never read an installment of Connecting Imaginary Dots, allow me to explain the idea. Connecting Imaginary Dots was the title I came up with for my speculation pieces when I was writing at MCU Exchange. These types of pieces basically allow me to unload a bunch of junk that’s circulating in my brain in a way that should never be confused for things I actually expect to happen. I basically take a bunch of facts that are almost always entirely unrelated and do my best to connect the dots with by stretching my imagination. In the past these types of pieces have resulted in me theorizing that the Spider-Man sequel which became Far From Home might end up being a team-up outing of Spidey and Hulk in the Savage Land;however, I also wrote one theorizing that Sterling K. Brown would be playing the father of Erik Killmonger in Black Panther LOOOOOONG before anyone else was considering it and one in which I theorized that Annette Bening was actually Mar-Vell when everyone else still thought Jude Law was playing the character. The bottom line is this: these are fun spec pieces that allow me to just be a fan. With that out of the way…

Filming is underway in Atlanta on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. While we don’t know an awful lot about the series, we do know it’s set to feature Wyatt Russell as John Walker, the U.S. Agent. In the comics, Walker is chosen by the government to become the new Captain America after Steve Rogers walks away from the role. From what we can tell, it seems like this series is going to develop along those lines as well and, to that end, some interesting set photos appeared online last night.

The photos taken at Duluth High School, located about 30 miles Northeast of Atlanta, clearly show a platform featuring the same logo that we saw on the costume of U.S. Agent in the concept art that was displayed in Disney+’s Expanding the Universe feature.

This is awesome. This is interesting. With filming only having been underway for a few weeks, this scene is probably taking place relatively early in the season and may be either John Walker’s introduction to the world or one of a series of events where the U.S. Government is introducing their Captain America to the nation one town at a time. I love it. I love all the possibilities. But what I love even more is the lady with the purple mohawk who appears to be connected to a stunt harness.

Now I have no idea who this person is. I don’t know if this person is a cast member, stunt double or someone who bought coffee for the guy in the plaid shirt. However, once I saw this person, it didn’t take my mind to start connecting imaginary dots and come up with a way for that person to be Melissa Gold, aka Songbird.

For those you who are unfamiliar with the character, Melissa Gold first appeared in 1979’s Marvel Two-In-One as Screaming Mimi, a member of Marvel Comics awesome wrestling federation, the UCWF (Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation), were super-powered beings were allowed to tussle in the squared circle. Following her stint in the UCWF, Gold next showed up on Helmut Zemo’s Masters of Evil and, eventually, the Thunderbolts.

While a lot of people aren’t going to like John Walker in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, he’s not the villain. That honor goes to Helmut Zemo, who will be played once again by the brilliant Daniel Bruhl. As we saw in Captain America: Civil War, Bruhl is plenty capable of devising a strategy to take on the Avengers by himself, but I think it’s possible that we might see Zemo bring in a band of mercenaries (I mean he has to get out of prison, right…oh, spoilers, there’s a prison riot in this series, BTW) to help announce his reentry into the MCU and, if he does, it would make sense that Gold, who was a key member of many of Zemo’s team, would be on it.

So why is she in this scene? Are Zemo and his Masters of Evil crashing the party? It’s possible. I know that earlier this week, the crew filmed an evacuation scene in a small town…could that be the result of Zemo and his crew blowing up the joint during the public reveal of the “new” Captain America? I have no idea, but it’s sure fun to think about. Obviously it’s less likely that this is Songbird than it is. It could be Rachel Leighton. It could be a crew member. I could be an extra. But this is what these pieces are for…fun speculation!

What do you think? Could The Falcon and The Winter Soldier introduce us to Melissa Gold and the Thunderbolts/Masters of Evil? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’ Set Videos Hint at New Team Joining the Series

Earlier this week, a video taken on the set of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier seemed to show Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes liberating some people from NYPD vehicles while Wyatt Russell’s John Walker fought a group of masked thugs. Though exciting, the video came without much context. Now, in footage, photos and a firsthand account obtained exclusively by Murphy’s Multiverse, we are able to get a MUCH clearer picture of what we were seeing.

At this point, I would caution anyone who is spoiler sensitive from continuing on as what follows my very well revolve around a major plot point. Also, I offer my gratitude to @Loburger for being generous enough to share these pics, videos and details exclusively with Murphy’s Multiverse and to @MsLizzieHill for her tireless work to help provide our readers with the best content!

Image result for captain america mjolnir

Twitter user @Loburger was on set Saturday, February 29th and managed to snag several set photos, including one below that seems to add some context to what we see in set videos.

The set photo below indicates that at least one major set piece in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will revolve around a hostage situation taking place at the 2023 G20 Summit in New York. G20 is an annual summit that was first held in 1999. Representatives from 20 countries assemble to discuss means to achieve international financial stability. Recently, actor Demi Castro was added to the IMDB Page as “G20 Leader #1” and, if I’m processing all these videos correctly, it seems that the villains of the series will mount an attack on G20! Scroll through the images below to see some exclusive set videos.

The four new set videos below give us much more complete picture of just what’s happening in this scene. According to @Loburger:

“The 2 armored vehicles come to a stop and 4 people run toward them. You can’t tell from the this but all 4 of them appeared to be females and they all wore masks. One of the ‘bad guys’ with the masks had brilliantly bright, long red curly hair.”

And so, as you can see in the first video, the 2 NYPD SWAT vehicles pictured above are stopped in the road by the gang of females.

The next video is similar to the video from the other day, but from a different angle. It gives us another look at Walker’s brutal fighting style and also shows him taken down by the gang of women. This gang of women look like brawlers to me and that’s something I’ll speculate on shortly.

The final video shows Bucky rushing to the aid of Walker after liberating who we assume to be G20 hostages from the SWAT vehicles.

There are 2 major takeaways here:

    1. At this point it seems safe to say that Bucky and Walker are indeed working together to rescue the G20 leaders.

    2. Are we seeing the Grapplers? In the comics, the Grapplers are a group of female wrestlers who, similar to John Walker, are powered up by the Power Broker, but then went on to pursue a life of crime. The group consisted of Titania, Letha, Poundcakes and Screaming Mimi, aka Songbird! Like many other characters and plot points from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the Grapplers were created by writer Mark Gruenwald, so it’s not entirely unreasonable to think the might show up to cause some trouble for our heroes.

Image result for marvel comics grapplers

While there are still MANY, MANY questions about what’s going on here, there’s no doubt that these new photos and videos shed a little more light on this past weekend’s production! Please feel free to sound off on what you think is going on in the comments!!

Marvel Studios ‘ETERNALS’: Who is Gilgamesh?

    10 Worst Ever Avengers – Page 5

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Jack Kirby’s Eternals is the idea that these ancient beings worked their way into the mythologies and religious stories of cultures around the world. In the case of the Eternal Gilgamesh, Kirby reshaped the legend of one of literature’s first heroes. The Epic of Gilgamesh was written in ancient Mesopotamia and gave an incredible account of the real life ruler of the ancient city of Uruk (modern day Iraq) and is considered the earliest great work of literature to have survived to “modern day.” The story includes dozens of archetypal characters and events that Kirby cleverly took advantage of when he decided to add the great hero to the roster of Eternals beginning in Eternals #13. Kirby used the idea that Gilgamesh was such a legendary character to an interesting end. Gilgamesh’s prominent place in the pantheon of human heroes meant that he must have been spending a lot of time among the humans, something that was frowned upon by Zuras, the Prime Eternal of that time. As punishment for his all-to-frequent meddling in humanity’s affairs rather than saving them from the shadows, Gilgamesh was ordered not to leave the Eternal city of Olympia again and, after a time, became known as The Forgotten One. Eventually, however, the Eternals need for his incredible physical strength (Gilgamesh’s strength was unparalleled, even among the other immensely powerful Eternals) in their battle against the Deviants brought him out of Olympia and back into the world. Gil served as an Avenger and struck up a great friendship with Hercules, a hero for whom he was sometimes mistaken, and regained his status as a legendary hero.

South Korean action star Ma Dong-seok has taken on the physically formidable task of bringing Gilgamesh to the big screen. The concept art for Ma’s character gives a very different vibe from either his earliest appearances or his recent redraws. It’ll be interesting to see how much of the hero’s past factors into the movie but there is no doubt that Ma is going to be smashing heads when we see him in Eternals!

Eternals is currently expected to hit theaters on February 12, 2021.

  • ‘THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER’ to Utilize “The Volume” Virtual Production System

‘THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER’ to Utilize “The Volume” Virtual Production System

Taika Waititi got a taste of it while directing an episode of Season 1 of The Mandalorian and now he’s come back for seconds. When filming on Thor 4 kicks off at Fox Studios Australia, Waititi will have access to the LED virtual production service known as “The Volume.” After being designed, pioneered and piloted at Disney’s Manhattan Beach Studios by Jon Favreau for use on The Mandalorian, the transformative technology will be replicated (and almost certainly improved upon) by ILM at Fox Studios Australia and Pinewood UK in addition to a second set up being built in Manhattan Beach.

Making of „Star Wars: The Mandalorian“: Der Einsatz von Virtual Sets - Green Screen war gestern - seriesly AWESOME

The technology is a game changer for movie studios as it allows them to create incredibly realistic, immersive and responsive sets on location. Using hundreds (maybe thousands now?) of LED screens and a game engine, the VFX setting changes with the movement of the cameras and allows for the virtual creation of locations without green screen technology, greatly speeding up the filming process by cutting out the time needed to replace the green screen. The idea came to Favreau after working on live-action versions of The Jungle Book and Lion King, but truly originated in the mind of George Lucas who once imagined visual effects so detailed that he could film a movie from his garage. Now Lucas’ idea has come to life as one set can be transformed into location. It appears that the Pinewood “Volume” will be up and running in February 2021 and that the one being designed for Fox Studios Australia is a larger, custom version of the original that has yet to be built. Production on Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to begin early next year ahead of a February 11, 2022 release.
