  • ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Adds ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Veteran

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Adds ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Veteran

It looks like Only Murders in the Building has found its latest recurring actor in Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jesse Williams. He will take on the role of a documentarian who is quite interested in Selena Gomez‘s Mabel Mora. The actor has made quite the splash with his Tony Award nomination for the Broadway Take Me Out and is also set to join Reese Witherspoon‘s Your Place or Mine.

He’s also one of the long-running members of ABC’s hit show Grey’s Anatomy, as he played Dr. Jackson Avery for twelve seasons. He’s also had some defining film roles such as Brooklyn’s Finest, The Cabin in the Woods, and more. He is joining one of Hulu’s big hits that have nabbed 17 Emmy nominations just in its second season alone. So, it’s a perfect combination for all parties involved and it’ll be interesting to see what the actor brings to the role.

He’ll join the cast that consists of Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin as its main stars. Paul Rudd has also famous joined the production and will have a big role in its third season. Martin and John Hoffman created the series with This Is Us creators Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal set as executive producers alongside Short and Gomez. The series has made quite a splash and it’ll be interesting to see what the third season has in store.

  • Michael Rooker’s to Return to the MCU in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Disney+ Holiday Special

Michael Rooker’s to Return to the MCU in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Disney+ Holiday Special

Well, here’s a rather curious reveal but it seems that hidden within the official press release on the Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, there’s a special mention of Michael Rooker returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems the actor that famously played Yondu will return to the franchise in the Disney+ special, but there’s a curious detail that may hint at what role he has.

In the press release, Rooker is mentioned alongside Kevin Bacon as “The Old 97’s“. Perhaps that connection could hint that while he’s returning to the franchise, he isn’t actually playing Yondu. Given that there have been references to MCU actors as themselves within the franchise, perhaps they meet the actor and end up abducting him alongside Bacon due to a misunderstanding that he’s a revived Yondu.

It’s certainly a mean detail to try and hide away in a press release. In a way, it is the perfect way to tease what may come in the future. We’ll have to see if this theory turns out right, but it would be a nice touch to get a tribute to Star-Lord’s true father in the Holiday Special. He’s faced enough loss and perhaps a Christmas miracle is exactly what he needs to push him further as he faces his next challenge.

  • Cosmo Returns in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Trailer

Cosmo Returns in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Trailer

If there ever was a character that was noticeably absent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s the space dog Cosmo. After being lost in space, the pupper that loves saying “comrade” somehow ended up in The Collector’s collection but was never seen again since Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Luckily, we learned that Maria Bakalova will take on the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and it seems she’ll also appear in the Holiday Special.

The first trailer has dropped and while we don’t hear Bakalova voice the character, we do get the confirmation that Cosmo has a role of some kind in the Holiday Special. It likely may be just a minor role and she could appear in the party that is hinted at, but it would be fun to see how this Guardians of the Galaxy midquel potentially sets up the threequel in this franchise.

We don’t know quite yet if Cosmo has taken on the same role she did in the comics as the new de facto leader of Knowhere. Perhaps that’s where they have the party with what seems to be the Ravagers, but we’ll have to see how she factors into this story. Either way, it’s great to see the galactic corner of the MCU finally explore her character and hopefully set up more appearances in the future. If there was something missing in this franchise, it’s a telekinetic dog.

  • First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Trailer Confirms Long Rumored ‘Footloose’ Connection

First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Trailer Confirms Long Rumored ‘Footloose’ Connection

There have been many theories surrounding how exactly James Gunn would tackle a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. They could go down a Star Wars route with vignettes and some familiar faces, or something that takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as its very own small story. As it turns out, Werewolf by Night confirmed that they will tackle their own little stories, and the first trailer for the Disney+ special revealed exactly which one.

As it turns out, Star-Lord is still down due to the events from Avengers: Endgame after losing Gamora, and his team is hoping to cheer him up. Going by the first look at Groot, we also seemingly now know that this takes place after Thor: Love and Thunder given that he looks quite a bit older. The main plot of the story is the team trying to cheer up their leader and it seems they have a perfect idea: abduct his childhood hero Kevin Bacon.

While it’s a shame that the trailer just gave it away, there might be a lot more we don’t know yet about how this story will play out. Still, Bacon playing himself also fits the tradition of holiday specials including celebrity cameos, and who knows if they might play around with him ending up abducted by the Guardians. Star-Lord will likely have to fix the issue, but he’ll definitely freak out seeing his childhood hero.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Gets November Release

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Gets November Release

Marvel Studios’ second Special Presentation has finally been unveiled, as the first trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has found its way online. After the success of Werewolf by Night, many were excited to see what the studios’ first-holiday special may have in store and the first trailer did not disappoint.

The trailer confirms the story of the special is about the team trying to distract Star-Lord from losing Gamora by offering him a very unlikely present, Kevin Bacon. It’s surprising that the trailer would include that detail but that might mean there’s a lot more we haven’t seen yet. Luckily, the wait isn’t much longer as the Holiday Special has received a November 25 release date.

For those wondering why a November release, it’s not uncommon that a holiday special finds its way online shortly before the celebration it includes. Werewolf by Night was a Halloween special that was released in October, and a recent tease did hint that the Guardians of the Galaxy special was likely going to get a November release.

Either way, it’s great to see the Special Presentation being continued by Marvel Studios and hopefully hints at many more types of these projects in the future. Who knows if they keep up the tradition with more holiday-themed specials or also include some Special Presentations that mainly serve as unique “direct-to-streaming” films, in addition, tot heir series. We’ll have to see what heads our way.

  • 20-Year Old ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Pilot Animatic Released Online

20-Year Old ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Pilot Animatic Released Online

Seth Kearsley has recently opened up about the Kingdom Hearts animated series that never was. It has been 20 years since he worked on the project and it was something he held quite dearly, which is why he no longer wanted to keep it a secret from the world. In a surprising twist, however, instead of just talking about the project he went on to release the entire animatic for the world to see online, which you can check out here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Iyg6gQZFhc

It’s definitely a bold move, as he highlights that he doesn’t own the right to publish this. Disney holds onto the rights even with Square-Enix being the creator of this Disney-Final Fantasy mashup. Many have long wondered why we never got an adaptation of any kind, but it’s great to get a look at what could have been after all these years. Kingdom Hearts has lived on as a massive franchise spanning books, multiple consoles, and ongoing musical concerts but still no cinematic or TV adaptation.

While this move won’t lead to the series getting a renewal after all these years, there is still the potential for them to consider an adaptation. Disney+ may unshackle them to explore many different types of stories and such a massive IP would definitely be the perfect touch, no matter if they go an animated or even live-action route. Kingdom Hearts still remains as one of Square Enix’s popular entries and we’ll see if the upcoming fourth entry alongside this leak potentially reviving interest to explore a project based on it after all.

  • Russo Brothers’ Italian ‘Citadel’ Entry Adds Matilda De Angelis as its Lead

Russo Brothers’ Italian ‘Citadel’ Entry Adds Matilda De Angelis as its Lead

Russo Brothers have been quite busy with their various projects and it looks like they are already eyeing to kick off their Amazon Prime Video series, Citadel. Once again taking a step into the world of spies and thrillers, they have cast the rising Italian star, Matilda De Angelis, as its lead, who recently made her name with her work on Susanne Bier‘s The Undoing. The project has now started production and was announced by Amazon Studios at Rome’s MIA content market.

For those wondering, Citadel is part of a wider event series with a U.S.-based main series and various spinoffs. Currently, Prime Video plans to expand it into India and Mexico as well with Arnaldo Catinari spearheading this project based on head writer Alessandro Fabbri‘s scripts. ITV Studios’ Cattleya is also currently producing the series with Gina Gardini set as its showrunner and executive producer alongside Marco Chimenz, Giovanni Stabilini, and Riccardo Tozzi.

The series has already cast Bernhard Schütz, Lorenzo Cervasio, Thekla Reuten, Julia Piaton, Filippo Nigro, and Maurizio Lombardi in undisclosed roles. This is the first local production to start and the U.S.-based series has already added Stanley Tucci, Richard Madden, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. It’s unclear if they will all be under the same title of Citadel or potentially each get their own titles moving forward but the project is certainly ambitios.

  • Skybound Developing Video Games Based on Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’

Skybound Developing Video Games Based on Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’

Invincible has grown as a franchise in the last few years. Robert Kirkman‘s comic series about a young teenager uncovering his true heritage and joining the unlikely world of superheroes just recently became a hit animated Amazon series with a live-action film still in some form of development. While we’re still anxiously awaiting a second season and an update on the adaptation, it does seem like they have added one more to the project.

In a new report, Skybound Entertainment has unveiled that they plan to adapt the series as a game. As Invincible celebrates 20 years, it’s the perfect time to highlight how it is about to expand beyond what we already know. There’s no word on if they already have a developer attached, but it seems like they are definitely interested in bringing this franchise to the next step.

They have done similar projects in the past, such as their rapid expansion of The Walking Dead franchise throughout the years. The game has quite a set of characters o there are many directions they could take it. Ironically, the heroic Mark Grayson may have the name Invincible but he gets beat up repeatedly throughout the comic’s run. So, it seems unlikely they’ll go down a story route with boss fights you have to overcome, but as ComicBook.com’s Logan Moore points out, its vast cast of characters would be perfect for a fighting game. We’ll have to see which direction they take with this project.

  • Heather Langenkamp Wants a ‘Halloween’ Style Legacy Sequel for ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’

Heather Langenkamp Wants a ‘Halloween’ Style Legacy Sequel for ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’

Halloween and Scream have recently made quite a big splash in theaters with their grand return. Not only did they revive the franchise but also acted as direct sequels to previous entries. So, it raised some eyebrows if this is the start of a new trend for other projects making a similar return. As it turns out, it seems that Nancy herself, Heather Langenkamp, is excited to potentially face off against Freddy Krueger one last time in a legacy sequel for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Gosh, I’d love to see a future in that. I’ve been really watching the Halloween saga that’s been out, and I love watching Jamie Lee Curtis get to play that part. You know, this age, where I think we have so much to give to those storylines, but yeah, I wish I was in control of that, but, unfortunately, it’s one of those Hollywood very complicated things.

    Heather Langenkamp

In the age of remakes, it’s crazy to think that the concept of killing someone in their dream has not been truly explored since the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake back in 2010. While Jackie Earle Haley gave a chilling performance as Krueger, it still didn’t scratch the same itch that the original did.

A legacy sequel with Robert Englund would definitely be a dream project and there are hopefully already some discussions happening behind the scenes with the recent resurgence. If the latest season of Stranger Things can pay tribute to the iconic franchise, it just makes sense for the project to make a grand return.

  • ‘Black Panther’ Director Reveals When ‘Wakanda Forever’ Takes Place

‘Black Panther’ Director Reveals When ‘Wakanda Forever’ Takes Place

Many have wondered when exactly the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Especially this project had many wondering as we know the project will act as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman with T’Challa also having died in this universe. Many assumed the project would start off with the direct aftermath of that event, but it seems that the film actually explores the aftermath a year after his in-universe passing according to director Ryan Coogler.

Ramonda realizes that it’s been a year since T’Challa’s passing and Shuri’s still not healing—she’s not taking steps to move forward in a healthy way. They take a retreat—stepping away from the city, from the technology—to sit with no distractions and perform what is essentially a grief ritual. That’s when Namor shows up.

    Ryan Coogler

This statement was released as part of a new press release and it highlights the overall themes of this story. Just as the family is finally trying to overcome the loss, Wakanda faces its biggest threat yet. It doesn’t give away the full story but it definitely seems like the legacy of T’Challa–especially that of Chadwick Boseman–will fuel the story and the characters living through that grief.

It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle those themes with an invasion by Namor. While the character is more of an anti-hero, he’ll take on a villainous role in this entry and grief will likely also be one of the motivators for his place in this story. For now, we’ll have to wait just one more month for it to finally release in theaters.
