  • Bong Joon-Ho Sets Next Project at Warner Bros, Robert Pattinson In Talks to Star

Bong Joon-Ho Sets Next Project at Warner Bros, Robert Pattinson In Talks to Star

Fans have waited two years to see what Bong Joon-Ho’s next move would be after taking the 2019 awards season by storm with Parasite. We’ve known for a while now that Joon-Ho had begun development on an American adaption of Parasite, teaming with Adam Mckay on a 6-hour mini-series for HBO, but there had been no news on just what film he’d be working on next. It seems after enough time to carefully pick his next project, he’s found the perfect one over at Warner Bros.

Joon-Ho is in talks to write and direct an adaptation of the unreleased novel, Mickey7 written by Edward Ashton. The film is already in the process of casting, with Robert Pattinson in talks to star. Joon-Ho is said to have boarded the project after he was given a copy of the unreleased novel late last year. The casting process was said to be quite crazy as many A-listers in Hollywood were eager to get a shot at the role. In the end, though, Pattinson proved to be the best candidate after wowing both executives and Joon-Ho.

Mickey7 tells the story of a disposable employee who is sent on the most treacherous and dangerous missions. Mickey, of course, proves to be the best employee for the job because after one Mickey dies, another is cloned with perfectly intact memories. Once Mickey reaches the seventh life, he goes missing on a mission to colonize the ice planet of Niflheim and is presumed dead. Healed back to life by the natives of the planet, Mickey returns only to find that they’ve already gone ahead with Mickey8 and they’ve begun the terraforming of Niflheim.

No release date for the project has been set as the production team is still coming together.

James Tynion IV To Write ‘Sandman’ Spinoff Comic ‘Nightmare Country’

The Sandman Universe is all the rage these days as it starts to expand through different mediums. While we don’t have an exact release date for it yet, the live-action adaption of the classic Sandman comics is set to hit Netflix at some time this year. Turns out, that’s not the only project heading our way, as a new comic series set within the universe is hitting shelves in April, as James Tynion IV is making his grand return to DC to tackle a new entry in the expanding universe.

    Sandman

Tynion IV, best known for his work on Batman, Something is Killing the Children and Detective Comics will write Nightmare Country under the DC Black Label, which is part of the Sandman Universe series. It’ll follow the Corinthian, the personification of a nightmare with rows of teeth for eyes. He is a creation of the lord of dreams, Morpheus. He had the following to say on his new project:

I spent my teenage years reading and rereading the volumes of The Sandman, trying to absorb all of their secrets. The series taught me that anything and everything was possible in the comic book medium, and set me on the inexorable path of becoming a comic book writer.

    James Tynion IV

Lisandro Estherren will draw the series after previously working on Redneck, a Skybound horror comic about vampires. Each issue will also feature nightmare dream sequences drawn by a guest artist with the first issue locking down Yanick Paquette. Nightmare Country is set to hit shelves on April 12 at your local comic shops.

  • James Gunn Teases a ‘Peacemaker’ Character Will Return in a “Big DC Movie”

James Gunn Teases a ‘Peacemaker’ Character Will Return in a “Big DC Movie”

Interconnectivity is all the rage when it comes to building your shared universe throughout films and TV series. The DC Extended Universe has been attempting to build one for quite a few years now but has yet to reach the status that other franchises have. Yet, recent rumors hint at a much more cohesive future in store for Warner Bros.’ attempt. Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard rumblings of certain characters popping up in other projects that are set to release within the next few months, and James Gunn has confirmed that to be the case.

In an interview with Collider, while promoting Peacemaker, Gunn was asked how the series connects to the greater DCEU and not only highlights the connectivity between this series and upcoming projects but also highlighted that one character, in particular, is already eyeing a future return.

It [Peacemaker] is part of the DCU, I mean they can use these characters… I mean one of these characters, which people have kind of figured out, one of these characters is used in a future big DC movie thats from here. So we are connected to all of this. Who knows what role these characters are going to play in the future? I mean no one know who the Guardians of The Galaxy were, and then all of a sudden they’re massive players in Infinity War [Avengers] and Endgame [Avengers]. So, who knows whats going to happen with Peacemaker in ten years, five years, or whatever.

    James Gunn

Just a few weeks ago we reported on a rumor that Emilia Harcourt would be making her DCEU return much sooner than expected. If rumors are true, she is set to return in Black Adam, which will release on July 29th. Details on her role describe it as a small role towards the end of the film in which she arrives to recruit a certain someone, although this target is unknown.

  • RUMOR: New ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Hint at Ivory Aquino Playing Alysia Yeoh

RUMOR: New ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Hint at Ivory Aquino Playing Alysia Yeoh

Batgirl is still busy filming in Glasglow, and quite a few set photos have found their way online throughout the last week. We got a good look at some curious Easter eggs with some deep-cuts from the DC mythos. Not just that, Leslie Grace even shared the first look at Barbara Gordon’s suit, which is inspired by the Burnside comics. They also seem to be taking inspiration from Batgirl: Year One to bring this new take on the character to life. One part in particular from Burnside seems to be the inclusion of Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon’s best friend and roommate if the latest set photos are to be believed.

A while before production started on the film, we reported that the film was looking to cast an Asian transgender actress under the name “Alanna”. Fans of the storyline would instantly recognize the description to match that of Alysia Yeoh. The film has made multiple casting announcements but no word on who may be tackling the role of Yeoh. Luckily, a new set photo may have given us our first hint.

The actress standing next to Leslie Grace, as pointed out by Twitter user @1gnister_, is believed to be Ivory Aquino. She’s rather new to acting and is mostly known for her role as Cecilia Chung in the mini-series When We Rise. In the casting call, it hinted that Alysia and Barbara may be childhood friends due to them also seeking to cast a younger Alanna. This is quite a bit different from the comic storyline but may be used to further

No official word on the casting has been made yet, but with it out there now it’s likely an official word will come soon. Batgirl is reportedly set to release in theaters later this year and HBO Max later this although no official date has been set just yet.

  • RUMOR: ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ Recasting The Brine King

RUMOR: ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ Recasting The Brine King

In 2018, Aquaman introduced some interesting new characters and creatures to the DC Extended Universe. The film saw Arthur Curry overthrow his step-brother, Orm, and unite the Seven Kingdoms of the Atlantis. One such character was the Brine King, the leader of the one kingdom that would not bend the knee to Orm as he sought out their allegiance to become the Ocean Master. A new tidbit of information suggests the Brine King will be back for the upcoming sequel, though he might sound a little different.

Actor Antony Gabriel’s Many profile indicates that he will be voicing the character in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom. The capacity and details of the role are currently unknown as nothing has been officially confirmed. Actor John Rhys-Davies, best known for his work in the Lord of The Rings trilogy as Gimli, originally provided the voice for the Brine king.

The news is currently just a rumor as nothing has been officially confirmed in the film. It’s entirely possible that the role is just so small that there wasn’t a need to bring back Davies as the character so they just had Gabriel provide the voice as he’s currently rumored to voicing Mister Mind in Shazam: Fury of The Gods.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is currently set to hit theaters later this year on December 16th.

  • UPDATED: David F. Sandberg Denies ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ Mister Mind Rumor

UPDATED: David F. Sandberg Denies ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ Mister Mind Rumor

UPDATE: Director David Sandberg has responded to the listing of Antony Gabriel as Mister Mind, confirming that while the actor did work with them on set, he is not the voice of Mister Mind of any other character in the film. Of course, he doesn’t give away what role exactly he had and it’s curious that he’d include the name in his own listing, but we’ll have to wait and see if Mr. Mind might still appear in the film.

    Source: Twitter

Towards the end of 2019’s Shazam!, Doctor Thaddeus Sivana is locked away after being defeated by the Shazamily. As the film closes, he is visited in his cell, which is covered in magical markings, by Mister Mind, a telepathic Caterpillar who was shown to have escaped the Rock of Eternity earlier in the film. Mister Mind seems to have taken an interest in Sivanna and looks to work with him in order to conquer the Seven Realms and have his revenge on Shazam.

It was believed that both Mister Mind and Doctor Sivanna would not be present in the upcoming sequel, Shazam: Fury of The Gods, as the three evil sisters would be the main antagonists of the film. However, a new casting listing hints that Mister Mind could indeed be back, and voiced by a new actor as the Mandy profile of actor Antony Gabriels lists him as the voice for Mister Mind in the upcoming film.

There’s been no official word on Mister Mind’s return or word of Gabriel’s casting so it could indeed be a small surprise meant for the film. It’s possible that Mind could return to recruit more villains for whatever he has planned for his conquest of the Seven Realms and could very well be setting up the Monster Society of Evil, a culminated group of the Marvel Family’s biggest foes.

Shazam: Fury of The Gods is set to hit theaters on June 2nd, 2023 with Zachary Levi back in the spandex and David Sandberg returning as director.

  • ‘Peacemaker’ Episode 1-3 Easter Eggs and References

‘Peacemaker’ Episode 1-3 Easter Eggs and References

Peacemaker is finally here and just like any other James Gunn project it’s packed full of Easter eggs and features quite a few deep-cut nods to the DC mythos.

    Evergreen

    Picture

Peacemaker takes place in the fictional city of Evergreen, Washington, the hometown of the most famous Green Lantern: Hal Jordan. Jordan returned to his hometown upon leaving his post at Ferris Aircraft to work as an insurance salesman. At one point, Green Arrow even made his way to Evergreen where he crossed paths with the lantern. There doesn’t seem to be any hint of either character right now, but it’s still a pretty cool bit of world-building in the ever-expanding DC Extended Universe.

    Bat-Mite

During a discussion between Peacemaker and John Economos, Economos exclaims that he’d rather be hanging out with Bat-Mite than be working alongside Smith. Peacemaker asks who Bat-Mite is and Economos describes him as a “Two-foot tall interdimensional imp who stans Batman” and that he is in fact very real, leaving Peacemaker wondering what the world is coming to. It’s a bit funny to picture Ben Affleck’s Batman standing next to the likes of Bat-Mite but it’s a fun nod to the Bat’s biggest fan.

    Doll Man

As they prepare to set out on their first mission as a team, Peacemaker gets chatty as usual. This time around he name drops a rather obscure DC name: Doll Man. Peacemaker goes into detail about just how much he dislikes “homunculi”, and then name drops Doll Man as an example. Doll Man, also known as “The Worlds Mightiest Mite”, developed a chemical formula that gave him the ability to shrink himself and was one of the first superheroes with that ability.

    White Dragon

When Peacemaker’s dad, Auggie Smith, finds himself in jailafter he’s framed for murder by John Economos, he’s worshipped and saluted by the other inmates. In that moment, Peacemaker’s awful father got so much worse as it was revealed that he is the White Dragon, a white supremacist supervillain who was created by John Ostrander. In the comics, Auggie wasn’t the White Dragon, but he was a Nazi who when he died, haunted Peacemaker with the horrible atrocities he committed. Gunn gets original here giving Auggie an alter-ego as a “Cape”.

    The DEO

When Peacemaker and Harcourt are staking out the Groff mansion, Smith attempts to pry a bit into Harcourt’s past. As she recalls her career path, she mentions that after she joined the CIA, she ended up at the DEO, better known as The Department of Extranormal Operations. First introduced into the comics in 1998, the DEO is a government agency that deals with everything out of the ordinary in the DC Universe. The DEO was previously heavily featured in Supergirl where they dealt with alien threats.

    Peacemaker’s Jetpack

Upon returning to his trailer after leaving the hospital, Peacemaker is quickly greeted by the members of his new team, led by Clemson Murn. Peacemaker has few conditions he wants met before he agrees to join the team, chief among them is that he wants a Jetpack, like really bad. Murn quickly shoots down the jetpack and moves on from his silly request. Peacemaker just really loves his jetpacks and has since his early days ini the comics. The character used to constantly be equipped with a Jetpack in many of his old comic book experiences, so if you thought he was a menace to begin with, imagine him being able to fly. Maybe down the line we’ll be able to see Peacemaker take flight, but for now it’s just a fun nod to his comic book history.

With a Gunn production, there’s always plenty of Easter eggs to be found and with a whole new universe at his fingertips, he’s sure to be pulling anything and everything that he can. Some may never be found, just like the elusive Easter egg in Guardians of The Galaxy that to this day eludes fans.

  • David Ramsey Set to Lead Arrowverse Spinoff ‘Justice U’ Series

David Ramsey Set to Lead Arrowverse Spinoff ‘Justice U’ Series

There’s relative uncertainty around the CW right now, as WarnerMedia reportedly looks to sell the network. It supposedly hasn’t been profitable since 2006. Nevertheless, the Arrowverse is in a time of great change, as they move on from their flagship series like Arrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning as they usher in a new era of justice. The CW’s latest additions include Superman and Lois, Naomi, and even a new series set to follow some young vigilantes in Gotham City. That’s not it, as it seems like they’re going all-in on some young Justice.

The CW is reportedly in the development of yet another original series set within the Arrowverse with David Ramsey set to lead as John Diggler. The series will see Diggle set off to train the next generation of heroes, as he recruits five young metahumans, who will live at a prestigious university. There they’ll study and train to become the world’s next best heroes. If the series is picked up, David Ramsey will serve as the pilot’s director as part of his new deal with Berlanti Productions.

The series was created by Michael Narducci, a co-executive producer on Superman & Lois alongside Zoanne Clack. Berlanti Productions will produce the series in association with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Geoff Johns will serve as an executive producer on the series. No further casting has been made as the series has yet to receive a series order nor a pilot order.

  • RUMOR: Ethan Kai May Be Playing Jason Bard in ‘Batgirl’

RUMOR: Ethan Kai May Be Playing Jason Bard in ‘Batgirl’

Batgirl recently started production over in Glasgow. In the past few days, we’ve gotten quite a few set photos that offered us a glimpse into the HBO Max film’s take on Gotham City. They, however, aren’t the only news we’ve gotten recently, as just today the film added Corey Johnson, Ethan Kai, and Rebecca Front to its cast. No details on their roles were revealed as plot details for the film are still under wraps, but it seems we may have a clue who Kai could be playing in the film.

Many were hoping that we may finally have our Dick Grayson, as recent rumors have pointed to the first Robin making an appearance. Yet it turns out Kai may be playing a very different character. Some new set photos have surfaced that may hint at the actor playing Jason Bard, a GCPD cop and love interest to Barbara Gordon. Leslie Grace and Ethan Kai are seen on set holding hands during filming, which hints at a romantic relationship between their characters.

The proof that may seal the deal on this is another set photo of a trailer belonging to a character only listed as “Jason.” As it seems quite unlikely Jason Todd would be popping up in this film, it seems like the most likely scenario is that this trailer belongs to the actor who could be playing Jason Bard, which looks to be Ethan Kai.

For those unfamiliar with Jason Bard, he isn’t a huge character but he is an ally of Batgirl and Batman. He was a man fueled by the death of his mother, who was murdered at the hands of his abusive father. Eventually, he would become a cop and join the GCPD to avenger his mother’s death, where he would meet Barbara Gordon and would often team up with her alter ego without a clue who she was. While this remains unconfirmed, it seems to be a possible outcome for Kai’s character. It seems fans may just have to wait a bit longer to see if Dick Grayson pops up in Batgirl.

  • Vincent D’Onofrio Describes “The Game” Behind Marvel Studios’ Secrets

Vincent D’Onofrio Describes “The Game” Behind Marvel Studios’ Secrets

Marvel Studios loves their secrets. Whether it’s casting reveals, plot details, or even the episode count of a streaming series, the studio works hard to keep things undercover. For Hawkeye, that meant trying to keep the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin a secret, something that was no small task.

In a recent interview with Marvel News Desk, D’Onofrio was asked about working with the famously secretive studio:

In the end I find it hard to believe that, the fans that I come across are intelligent people and I find it hard to believe that they don’t know its a game. And that the game evokes excitement and sometimes provokes excitement, and so I think it’s a fun game to play. And yes, sometimes its weird because in the moment, it gets bizarre, but you know the best thing about that situation from the actor’s point of view, I’ll say, is that I really don’t know anything. I literally don’t, you know, and at this point I would rather not, because its an uncomfortable position to be in.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

D’Onofrio quickly clarified that while it is bizarre and uncomfortable for the actor to have to keep so many secrets while fans wildly speculate, it is still enjoyable:

You know even when I said its an uncomfortable position to be in, just as I said that, the first thing comes to my mind is: “but it’s kind of fun. The game is kind of fun”

    Vincent D’Onofrio

Keeping a return such as Wilson Fisk quiet definitely couldn’t have been easy, especially for D’Onofrio who loves the character so much, but it was sure worth the wait. Now let the games begin again people wonder just where Kingpin will show up next.
