SDCC: ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ Trailer Includes a ‘The Suicide Squad’ Easter Egg

The Shazam: Fury of The Gods trailer has finally arrived and fans are already anticipating the return of the Wizards champions. The trailer included some great references to the wider DC Extended Universe with glimpses of characters like the Flash, Batman, and Aquaman but if you look a little closer you’ll notice some references to another recent DC film.

If you look close enough you’ll be able to spot multiple references to Starro, the villain of The Suicide Squad. The world briefly got a glimpse of the conquerer on television, seen stomping down the streets of Corto Maltese as Task Force X took it on.

  • SDCC: New ‘She-Hulk’ Promotional Poster Let’s You Call Jennifer Walters

SDCC: New ‘She-Hulk’ Promotional Poster Let’s You Call Jennifer Walters

Step aside Matt Murdock, the best lawyer in the Marvel Universe is about to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. We are just a few weeks away from the premiere of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and Marvel Studios is giving Jennifer Walters the spotlight she deserves at San Diego Comic-Con, with promotions for the series littered around every corner in San Diego.

In the actual convention center, fans will be able to stumble across a photo-op for the upcoming series featuring the series logo atop a pile of rubble and a wall that looks as if She-Hulk herself had sprung into action and lept through it. It also seems like a fun tribute to the iconic comic panel where she ripped through the comic pages.

    https://twitter.com/ChangoATX/status/1550111090998231041

Perhaps the most creative part of the series promotion is a poster being found around the con. The poster works as an ad for Jennifer Walter’s superhero legal representation and at the bottom list, a phone number and the slogan “I go green, so you get green.” And the best part is, that the number actually works. Fans can call the number and once they pick up they’ll be greeted by Jennifer Walters apologizing because she wasn’t able to take your call, and then proceeding to hulk-out to record the rest of the ad.

She makes a few fun references to characters like Iron Man, having lost control of a sentient robot that threatened all life on earth, and even Thor who leaves Bifrost sigils burned into every surface he teleports from. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is surely in for a treat this weekend as the series is likely to have a major presence at this Saturday’s big Marvel Studios Hall H panel.

The very first poster is littered with quite a few notable creatures from the game including the classic Mimic, an Intellect Devourer, an Owlbear, and even a displacer.

  • New Line Green Lights ‘Mortal Kombat 2’

New Line Green Lights ‘Mortal Kombat 2’

New Line is officially back in the Mortal Kombat game. In January, it was reported that Jeremy Slater would be returning to pen a sequel script to 2021’s Mortal Kombat. Deadline is now reporting that New Line has green-lit the sequel, and tapped Simon McQuoid to direct again.

Many fans were left a bit puzzled after the first film, as it didn’t include the fabled tournament between realms that had been hyped up throughout the films. Fans were also left hanging on series’ favorite, Johnny Cage, who made no appearance in the film but was teased at the end as Cole Young went off to recruit more to join Earthrealm’s champions.

In 2021 Warner Brothers made the unprecedented move to shift its entire theatrical slate to a day and date release on HBO Max. Mortal Kombat was among the company’s films that released in both theaters and on streaming and the film did incredibly well in both arenas, beating box office predictions and grossing around $84M and coming in as the most streamed film on the service that year, beating out Dune, Godzilla Vs Kong and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

It is currently unknown when the sequel will kick-off into production and no casting announcements have been made at this time, but we can only hope Johnny Cage is jumping into the fight.

  • Sony Delays Upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff ‘Madame Web’

Sony Delays Upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff ‘Madame Web’

Sony is going all out when it comes to expanding their Spider-Verse without the iconic Spider-Man, as multiple films based on many of the characters within the wide library of characters Sony has at their disposal in the works. One of the projects with the most interest looks to be the upcoming Madame Web solo films, but it seems like fans are gonna have to wait just a little bit longer to dive into another corner of their new Marvel expansion.

Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sony has delayed the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film, Madame Web, from its previously set date of July 7th, 2023 back a few months to October 6th, 2023. The film just recently started filming in Boston, with set photos giving us a first look at the film that looks to be set within the early 2000s.

On top of the current delay for Madame Web, Sony has pushed back an untitled Marvel film that previously held the October 6th date and will now release said untitled film to June 7th, 2024. It’s unknown just what that film is, but it seems possible to be the currently untitled sequel to Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

While many of what Sony has released under their banner of Marvel films has not been entirely well received, the cast for Madame Web has many people quite excited with the likes of Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Isabel Merced, Mike Epps, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, and most recently Adam Scott.

  • Marc Forster Set To Direct Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Graveyard Book’ Adaption for Disney

Marc Forster Set To Direct Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Graveyard Book’ Adaption for Disney

Neil Gaiman adaptions are quite the trend right now, and everyone wants a slice of the pie. Deadline is reporting that Marc Forster, who is known for his work on Christopher Robin, Quantum of Solace, and World War Z will direct an adaption of The Graveyard Book for Disney. The project will be an adaption of a book by the same name written, as you guessed it, by Neil Gaiman.

The project will be produced through 2Dux2, Forster‘s production company with Renée Wolfe, who will produce the project alongside Gil Netter. Ben Browning also serves as a producer on the project. The film will be written by David Magee, whose previous works include Mary Poppins Returns and Life of Pi.

The award winning 2008 novel follows a young boy named Nobody Owens, better known as “Bod” to those closest to him. The boy’s life is perfectly normal, up until his entire family is brutally murdered and the young boy comes to find a new home in a graveyard, where he is raised by a handful of supernatural beings such as Ghost, a werewolf, and an Vampire caretaker of the cemetery. So long as Bod remains in the graveyard, he is able to use ghost-like abilities that allow him to phase through walls, talk with the dead, and even become invisible to humans.

This is one of a few high profile adaptions of Gaiman’s work in the past few years, with Amazons Good Omens upcoming season and Netflix’s highly anticipated adaption of The Sandman, set to release on August 5th. No release date has been set for the film, and no casting announcements have been made at this time.

  • REPORT: Netflix Developing More ‘Fear Street’ Films

REPORT: Netflix Developing More ‘Fear Street’ Films

Netflix is ready to return to Shadyside just a year after the release of all three Fear Street films. The streamer is reportedly very far into development on more installments within the franchise and plans to dive deeper into the Book of Witchcraft that has forsaken the town for so many years.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that they have indeed heard Netflix plans to develop more Fear Street projects exclusively for the streamer. There are currently no details on what any of these projects could be or who would return, but it can be assumed that the expansion may take place sometime around 1994 as that was where we last left Shadyside.

For those who may not remember, near the tail end of Fear Street: 1666, the Book of Witchcraft was left behind within Nick Goode’s worship room, and before the film ends we can see a pair of hands reach out and grab it, hinting that the worst has yet to come and someone else intends to use the book.

R.L. Stine himself, the writer of the original books on which the film series was loosely based, has heard that Netflix is looking to do more with the franchise.

I…hear rumors about more Fear Street movies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer, Those films kind of shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated! All those teenagers were getting slashed. I was like, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!’

    R.L. Stine

Hopefully we get some more news on whats next for the series at Netflix’s upcoming TUDUM event, set to return on September 24th.

  • ‘Batgirl’ Headed to Theaters in 2023

‘Batgirl’ Headed to Theaters in 2023

A few years back, the previous studio heads over at Warner Brothers were interested in developing original films set within the DC Extended Universe for release exclusively on HBO Max, with the first of these being Batgirl and Blue Beetle. Since then, Blue Beetle has forgone its streaming release for a theatrical one. Earlier this year, Warner Brothers Discovery was debating giving Batgirl a theatrical release as well, citing David Zaslav’s distaste for releasing such big films on streaming.

There has been radio silence on a potential release for the film, still currently set to release on HBO Max. However, it seems there may be a change incoming for the film. In an updated release schedule from Warner Bros UK, Batgirl is now listed under “2023 Theatrical Release.”

Now this isn’t doesn’t mean the same for the United States and elsewhere as of right now for one specific reason. HBO Max currently is not available to the United Kingdom, meaning a theatrical release would be one of the only ways fans would be able to see it there.

The studio has the perfect opportunity to cash in on a theatrical release if they were to hold on the film until late next year. Batgirl could thrive in late 2023 release, sometime around November and December, considering the film is set during Christmas and that Warner Brothers currently has no DC films set for release following Blue Beetle’s release next August.
