The Morning After Huddle: July 8, 2022

Welcome to your Football Friday edition of The Morning After Huddle, bringing you all things NFL. In the words of Beyoncé, girls run the world! (Or, in this case, overall business operations.)

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Sandra Douglass Morgan wil be the Team President of the Las Vegas Raiders, making her the first black woman to ever serve in this role in NFL history! Prior to her time with the Raiders, Morgan was the chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. She also has history with the Nevada Gaming Commission, AT&T, and multiple roles as an attorney. Morgan is the third woman to serve as an NFL Team President, joining the Bill’s Kim Pegula and the Panther’s Kristi Coleman.
    • Unfortunately, it was not a good week for all. Bears WR David Moore is facing drug and weapon charges. He was officially charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of weapons. Officers fielded calls of a possible intoxicated person in a vehicle and located Moore, finding edibles and 3 firearms. The Bears WR was eventually released on bond.
    • Without further ado, your Key Signings Roundup:
      • Justin Houston is signing a one-year deal to remain with the Ravens. This will be Houston’s 12th year in the NFL.

Thanks for breaking down the huddle with us today! You know the drill: we’ll see you Saturday for your Weekend Huddle, where just like coffee, we’re coming in hot!

The Morning After Huddle: July 7, 2022

Welcome to your Thursday edition of The Morning After Huddle, bringing you all things NFL. Baker Mayfield will have to film his Progressive commercials somewhere else because he’s been traded.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • The marriage between Baker Mayfield and the Browns is over. The Browns fawned over (cheated with) Deshaun Watson, knowing they had Baker at home, and it’s been downhill ever since. However, Mayfield now has a new home in Carolina. The Panthers acquired Mayfield for a 2024 conditional 5th-round draft pick and managed to get the Browns to split his 2022 salary. That should make for an interesting reunion when the Browns come to Charlotte Week 1. Another spicy nugget: The Panthers are insisting that Sam Darnold won’t be traded.
    • The Raiders will announce a new Team President today. Raiders brass fired former President Dan Ventrelle in May without explanation, leading many around the league to believe something was happening behind the scenes. The new hire will be the third Team President in less than a year.
    • Finally, your Key Signings Roundup:
      • The Atlanta Falcons will pick up Bears DL Eddie Goldman. Goldman is the sixth former Bear to sign with the club this off-season.

Thanks for breaking down the huddle with us today! Catch us on Football Friday for all things NFL you want to know.

The Morning After Huddle: July 6, 2022

Welcome to Wednesday, teammates! The Morning After Huddle is bringing you all things NFL. Buying the Seahawks will cost you a mere $3.5 billion and if you have the time to wait, the price is worth it.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Rumors are running wild about the Seahawks being sold. However, Seahawks chair Jody Allen says don’t hold your breath. The team is apparently not for sale, but…could be in the future. Jody explains, “estates of this size and complexity can take 10 to 20 years to wind down. There is no pre-ordained timeline by which the team must be sold.” Save your pennies, folks.
    • Former NFL player Demaryius Thomas’ family says the last year of his life was full of twists and turns, including increasingly erratic behavior, paranoia, and memory loss. The story gets a bit more muddied as Thomas was posthumously diagnosed with stage 2 CTE, but exactly how he passed away remains to be seen. Doctors suspect that Demaryius most likely died of suffocation after a seizure. As previously reported, Demaryius had a number of seizures since 2019.

A fairly quick huddle today, but we appreciate you stopping by to break down all things NFL with us. Join us tomorrow for your Thursday news and more topics you want to know.

The Morning After Huddle: July 5, 2022

Welcome to your Tuesday edition of The Morning After Huddle where the jokes are made up and the points don’t matter anyway! If you caught that joke, you are my kind of person. We knew OBJ was a special talent, but apparently, the guy is a cyborg.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Odell Beckham Jr., revealed via Twitter, that he played the back half of last season with a torn ACL. If you remember, Beckham went down in the Super Bowl and never returned. We assumed that it was his ACL, but perhaps it was a knee. The answer is yet to be revealed, but I’m thoroughly impressed that the man put up 25 catches, over 300 yards, and 2 TD’s in the postseason on a bum knee. That, folks, is a cyborg.
    • Longtime ESPN NFL reporter Hank Goldberg has passed away. Goldberg’s family reported that he passed away yesterday on his 82nd birthday. Goldberg was .500 or better in 15 of 17 NFL seasons while predicting games at ESPN. He made appearances on NFL Countdown and ESPN Radio and contributed to the network’s thoroughbred racing coverage.
    • With Training Camps on the horizon, Bleacher Report is taking a look at players at every position who will blossom this season. Gary Davenport details his predictions including Trey Lance, J.K. Dobbins and more.

The Morning After Huddle: June 28, 2022

Happy Tuesday, teammates! Welcome to your favorite news source for all things NFL. This is The Morning After Huddle! So many stories, so little time. Let’s hop into it.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • I’m convinced that athletes wake up and say, “what can I do today that’s completely out of my league?”. That answer is apparently (and continues to be) boxing. Adrian Peterson wants to get in the ring with Le’Veon Bell and the two have scheduled an event for July 30 at Crypto.com Arena.
    • Today in As Deshaun Watson Turns, the Texans are being sued. The lawsuit says that the Texans knew about his behavior in massage therapy sessions and should’ve done something about it…like not enable him at all. (Shocking, I know.) A few weeks back, Jenny Vrentas did some fabulous reporting and noted many of the details listed.
    • Next, the first Black starting quarterback in the American Football League, Marlin Briscoe, passed away from pneumonia complications at the age of 76. Briscoe was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Miami Dolphins.
    • Last, but not least, your Key Signings Roundup:

It’s a brand new week and time for a brand new Morning After Huddle. Welcome to your Monday edition of all things NFL! As Deshaun Watson Turns is back with an update.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • As you know, Deshaun Watson is facing potential discipline from the NFL and tomorrow he will begin his hearing with officer Sue Robinson. It’s expected that the NFL will argue for an indefinite suspension of at least a year. Right now, there is no timeline for when a ruling is expected.
    • Switching to the NFC North, Bears LB Matthew Adams was arrested over the weekend. Adams is charged with misdemeanor illegal gun possession and possessing a high-capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets.
    • Finally, free agent DE Carl Nassib is announcing a partnership with The Trevor Project, who provided crisis support to LGBTQ+ youth. Nassib is agreeing to match donations up to $100,000.

That is it for today! You know the drill. Join us for your Tuesday edition of the Morning After Huddle.

Welcome to your Saturday edition of The Morning After Huddle! Hope your coffee is hot…we’ve got some news.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Apparently, it’s not nice to allegedly break a man’s eye socket and it’s likely that Alvin Kamara will be suspended. Kamara is currently facing felony battery charges from an incident during Pro Bowl weekend and sources around the league say that a six game suspension is expected. News also broke this morning that a civil lawsuit will be filed.
    • For the third straight year, the NFL will forgo the Supplemental Draft. The event is meant to be an exhibition for college players to have one last chance to enter the NFL. However, it’s become increasingly apparent that teams have rarely use this draft to add talent.
    • The Key Signings Roundup looks a bit different today:
      • DirecTV is ending its 30 year run of hosting Sunday Ticket. Three companies have emerged with competing bids: Disney, Amazon, and Apple. it’s been reported that the league is looking for at least $2 billion for the rights to the content and a possible stake in NFL Media.

  • The Morning After Huddle: June 24, 2022

The Morning After Huddle: June 24, 2022

Welcome to your Football Friday edition of The Morning After Huddle! Training camp dates have been released and that means we are that much closer to the start of the season.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Training Camp dates for all 32 teams have been released. That means you can go see your favorite players catch mediocre passes with no contact, that everyone will undoubtedly overhype, on your own dime prior to the season. The full schedule is available here.
    • It’s been a tough week for the NFL. News broke yesterday that we have two more greats who have passed on. Former Commanders player Brig Owens has passed away at 79. A member of Washington’s Super Bowl VII team and one of the franchise’s most prolific interceptors, Owens played 12 of his 13 years in the NFL in D.C. Also, Hugh McElhenny passed away at the age of 93. McElhenny was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-1950s team and star halfback for the San Francisco 49ers.
    • Finally, your Key Signings Roundup:
      • Steelers agreed to terms with first round draft pick QB Kenny Pickett. As with all first-round contracts, the four-year deal comes with a fifth-year team option.

That is it for today! You know the drill. Wrangle the kids, grab your coffee, and join us for your Saturday edition of the Morning After Huddle.

    ICYMI: Thursday – June 23, 2022 Edition

  • The Morning After Huddle: June 23, 2022

The Morning After Huddle: June 23, 2022

Welcome to your Thursday edition of The Morning After Huddle. I’m back with all things NFL. Let’s hop into it.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Earlier this month, I said Dan Snyder is going to be Dan Snyder. That hasn’t changed. Congress released details that Snyder conducted a “shadow investigation” of allegations that he had fostered a toxic work culture within his organization and worked closely with the NFL to monitor and, ultimately, bury the findings from an official internal investigation. Apparently, Snyder’s goal was to build a case to the NFL that former President Bruce Allen was to blame and that former employees were conspiring to disparage him. I’m sure you’re just as shocked as I am.
    • It’s with a heavy heart that we report Ravens player Jaylon Ferguson has passed away. Ferguson, known as “Sack Daddy” to many, was 26 years old. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Also on Wednesday, Ravens and Colts player Tony Siragusa passed away at age 55. “Goose”, as he was often called, spent 12 seasons in the NFL, eventually earning a Super Bowl ring with Baltimore.
    • Without further ado, your Key Signings Roundup
      • The Seattle Seahawks are signing DT Bryan Mone to an extension. The deal is worth two years and $12 million.
      • The New Orleans Saints are signing TE Brandon Dillion.

Of course, thanks for breaking down the huddle with us today! Catch us on Football Friday for more news that you want to know.

  • The Morning After Huddle: June 16, 2022

The Morning After Huddle: June 16, 2022

Welcome to your Thursday edition of The Morning After Huddle, your favorite news source for news you want to know! Dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar bills, y’all! Minkah Fitzpatrick is a paid man!

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Secured the bag! The Steelers and Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed on a mammoth deal yesterday worth almost $74 million, making it the largest safety contract in NFL history. The 4-year deal includes $36 million guaranteed and ties Minkah to the organization through 2026. Not bad a haul for three draft picks.
    • Dan Snyder is going to be Dan Snyder. It appears he has declined to appear before Congress to testify about workplace misconduct. Among several reasons that his lawyers listed, Snyder argues that he has pressing Commanders business to attend to that day, contradicting previous reports that he is not involved in the day-to-day dealings of the team. Presumably, he will receive a subpoena that will compel him to appear.
    • Without further ado, your Key Signings Roundup
      • Colts Safety Khari Willis is retiring from the NFL at the age of 26 to pursue ministry full time. (From this Colts fan: Thank you, Khari! Going to miss you, 37.)
      • The Rams are signing TE Jared Pinkney and RB A.J. Rose.
      • The Patriots are signing WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

Thanks for breaking down the huddle with us today! Catch us tomorrow for more news that you want to know.
